Here it is the moment the Los Angeles Lakers and their fans have waited an entire year for, the chance to erase the mistakes of last season. Tonight the Lakers host the Orlando Magic in the NBA Finals also known as basketballs biggest stage.

This is exactly where the Lakers wanted to be, Los Angeles had several things that had to be achieved this year three of the season long goals were to have home court advantage, return to the Finals and win it all; the team is four wins away from accomplishing all three goals.

The Lakers are up against a formidable opponent in the Orlando Magic but far from a team without weaknesses. Just as the Magic were a bad match up for the Cavaliers the Lakers match up extremely well.

The Lakers have three defenders with size and athleticism to contain the Magic’s perimeter shooters. The Lakers could easily place Kobe, Trevor, Lamar, Pau and Andrew on the floor at the same time. This unit would be able to control Orlando’s perimeter players defensively and make them pay offensively.

It will also allow them to contain Hedo Turkoglu & Rashard Lewis. Turkoglu is Orlando’s decision maker at the end of games and needs to be shut down. The Lakers have shown excellent execution in the fourth quarter and possess the best closer in the game in Kobe Bryant.

I’ve mentioned all season that the Lakers need to rotate out to three point shooters defensively. This is one of the main weapons that the Lakers need to take away from the Orlando Magic. The Lakers will have they’re hands full slowing down Dwight Howard and need to mix up the way they’re going to defend him.

The Lakers need to start off by playing him straight up with Andrew Bynum having the assignment of slowing him down. There will be times that the Lakers will double-team him but the double team will have to come from different directions so he will have difficulty figuring out where it is coming from.

The Lakers can’t consistently double-team Howard due to the fact that when this happens it provides room for the three point shooters. I don’t want to see the team use the ‘hack-a-Howard’ technique but at critical times it might have to happen. DJ Mbenga & Josh Powell could be used to be physical with Howard as well as be used to wear him down and if nothing else provides the team with 12 fouls that can used.

The Lakers front line has to be active, aggressive and attack the basket. The front line has the skill and athleticism necessary to put Dwight Howard in foul trouble. This time last year Pau Gasol got pushed around that won’t happen this year. At times opponents have placed smaller defenders on Gasol and when that happens Pau needs to take his time and make the Magic pay for that decision.

This series has the appearance of a high scoring free flowing affair. I’ll describe it as a man and his moment. The man is Kobe Bryant his moment will be putting all of his skills on display while acquiring his fourth ring without you know who. Lakers in 6!

    Aggressive Basketball (LAMAR ODOM)

Let’s go Lakers. I want the same effort and results as last year.

  • Touch ME

Where did the reports of Nelson being out come from it hasn’t been determined yet, its a game time descision. The Orlando Sentinel reports was unconfirmed by the Magic

  • WifelovesLuke

Enough with the Shaq talk! Niether one of them would have won a championship without the other and both have said so this week. Enough is enough. Let’s focus on the basketball against the Magic!

And who gives a crap about Jamueer? He won’t matter in this series, PERIOD!

I am so pumped right now and am so ready to leave work. I’m getting 7 hours of pre game on AM710 and TLN. LET’S DO IT LAKERS!

  • laker fan who hates flukes

come on kobe lets show these fags that you can win without that fat head shaq!

  • Lakezilla

Instead of repeating all the series breakdowns and matchups the only thing I’m going to say is just win 4 games by any means necessary. I don’t care if it takes 4, 5 ,6 or 7 games to get the 4 wins. I don’t care if they win all 4 games by 1 point or 20. Just get it done.

    Go Lakers!!!

  • Touch ME

It has been annouced by espn that Jameer Nelson will play be worried Laker fans because he tore us up in the regular season. Don’t make the same mistake like last year and get overconfident or you all be be disciplined just like last year. This Orlando team beat the defending and the best in the nba and you guys are sayin the Lakers will step all over them. Don’t be surprised if you recieve the same discipline this year. GO LAKERS !

  • lakerfan

    GO LAKERS !!!!

  • berks24

My game plan is not to double d12 and free the shooters from the gasols defense or bynum, but I want mbenga on first 5 to work on howard alone.I might take d12 earning 2 points and slow their pace down rather than freeing lewis and torku on 3’s.there will be no problem on scoring from the lakers they have too many weapons.Only the defense is my concern.

  • WifelovesLuke

Touch Me: did you mean disappointed when you say discipline? lol

Dude, Jameer has not played a game since February and you think he can actually matter in the NBA Finals? Trevor Ariza attempted to come back in the finals of last year and was a non factor.

Bynum has had 3 playoff series’ to get going and is still struggling. Jameer is just supposed to hop into the NBA Finals and drop 28 points on us? Come on, dude!

  • Touch ME

I did mean discipline because of how foolish Laker fans were acting last year. Yes he will because he tore up the Lake Show during the regular season without Nelson Playin I can predict LA winning it all but with him it makes them deeper.

  • WifelovesLuke

Touch Me: So we should worry about a guy who hasn’t played in an NBA game (let alone a playoff game in the Finals) since the month of February? He won’t have the legs needed to be effective in a Finals game. I think this is all misdirection. It’s an illusion from the Magic.

DO WORK LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 MORE BABY!

  • Zoom Kobe II

i have a little bit of pre-game jitters, but expect my nerves to settle in the first few minutes tonight.

we need to come out swinging from tip-off. we need to have suffocating defense. Defense will win this series.

Dude, let go of yourself for a minute and focus with your other head. Jameer is being thrown out there to disrupt focus (won’t happen though). He, like wife said, will not have the legs to make a significant contribution for the Magic. Lakers are freakin’ ready. You can feel it in the interviews. If Jameer factors tonight I will change my sign on to numbnutts! Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lakers2000

i think the Magic will wait to play Nelson when they get back to Orlando, so they can have that mental boost like Boston got last year when Pierce went down and “magically” came back later..
