For those of you who didn’t know who Nick Young was, now you do. The rookie out of USC seemingly made every shot down the stretch to turn what should have been an easy night for the Lakers into an overtime thriller.

You would think the Lakers had the better three point shooting night if I told you they went 14-27. Not tonight! The Wizards made 17 of 30, behind 8 from Stevenson. This team will be scary from outside when Gilbert comes back.

Anyways, the Lakers shot well tonight, scoring 126 points on 49% shooting. They had 35 assists to only 8 turnovers! They also had 7 players score double figures. The problem tonight was the defense. You can’t give up 120 points at home to a team without a point guard on the roster after Daniels went down 3 minutes into the game. Hopefully the Lakers snap out of this funk and get some quality wins!

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Lamar did a bit of everything tonight. 10 points, 13 boards, 7 assists, and 2 blocks. He was pretty solid all night, and he held Jamison to 6-15 shooting.

2) Sasha was incredible from behind the arc. He hit 6 threes in 8 tries. He finished with 20 points.

3) Vlad Rad shot amazing tonight, but it was Luke who got it done down the stretch. 19 points, including two huge rebounds in the final minute.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Farmar played 15 minutes and was held scoreless.

Play of the Game: Fisher’s nice rebound, running of the break, and dish off to Kobe for the slam!

What to look for next game: Portland is never easy for the Lakers. Look for another game down to the wire unfortunately. Lakers should come out on top.

Game is Wednesday @ 7:30 PM (FSN).

    BYNUMMMMM come bakkkk

  • Ko-Pau19

we need some front line help and fast! Bynum and Gasol come back healthy and strong! PLEASE!

  • yash

WOW no kobe in top 3. Luke in WOWWOWwOWOWWOW. We still gotta play better than this. I felt like we got lucky. How do you let Stevenson get 8-10 from 3. Despite him being a great shooter. Even Ray Allen cant get that many shots in.

  • kb24 4life

gasol will be back on wednesday and we will be ok, hopefully return to the first place, a thing that im confident we can do…

  • drake hunter

Portland owns us for some reason. For the last 7 seasons or what I can remember we always have trouble winning there. Their too athletic for us and we don’t match up well. Gasol, if you don’t come back for this game, sit the rest of the season out man and we’ll just wait for Bynum. I’m tired of reading about when your coming back. I hope I don’t read another article about you still in pain or doubtful or being a game time decision. First they said Charlotte, then Memphis, then Washington and then finally for sure pushed it back to Wednesday against Portland and Lakernation has all the articles to back me up. You better be on the court because we’re gonna need you to beat Portland and Sacramento!

  • Devean George

I think Mbenga deserves to be in the top three! he play very solid during his short span an bailed us out a couple of time!!!

  • lakerz

[Comment ID #31120 Will Be Quoted Here]

i dont think he should be in the top 3 because of the little playing time he got, but he played amazing with the bank shot and the jumper, great defense too. He might have already passed kwame in skill level.

  • Jack

The game only got close coz of wizz’s 3s. and boy did they shoot good! it’s all good though. we got that “W” we needed, till gasol comes back. I am eager to see Laker’s power ranking, and MVP ranking this week.

  • laker-nate

wow!! congrats luke! thats the luke we know and love, huge contribution…where the luke haters at now?

  • dezmond

I hate to say this, but damn these teams have been so freakin’ lucky lately!!!!! warriors, grizz, wizards all been hitting shots like crazy against us!!!!! that last caron butler 3 was soooooooooo damn lucky!!!!!

  • gugy

Luke has to show many good games like last night in order to get on the good list.
Just because he played a good game doesn’t mean he is a good player. He has been a bonehead for long time.
I wish Luke luck, because I want him to succeed. Hopefully this will be a start of a rebound. Just like happened to Lamar.

    Go Lakers!

  • Thomas

Please let us get Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol back. Please God. What more can i say i mean im probably not the only one who is sick of watching the Lakers play like crap and going 2-2 in the last week when it should be 4-0 or 3-1 at worst. We have waited patiently and we need to know that everything will get better.

  • Craig W.

When several teams do it to you (shoot high percentage of 3s) then you can’t call it luck. You have to say it is our skill at defending the 3.

  • xtro

    DJ Mbenga!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven’t seen a player struggle this much trying to get back to his normal form since we had Glen Rice. Good to see Luke finally have a solid game. It’s surprising how tough it has been for him this year. He is or was a good player; he hasn’t always played this poorly. I can tell who has jumped on the band wagon as of the last couple years by the comments they make about Luke. For those of us who have watch every game year in and year out since the 80’s, we know Luke can play and hopefully will become the Luke of old here in the near future.

  • MILO

What was that no call towards the end of the game on Kobe???These officials want Kobe to get a tec and get suspended.WHERE THE FU-CK IS BYNUM FISH AND KOBE ARE PLAYING THROUGH INJURY WTF WTF WTF???

  • Myrhaf

    Is Kareem working with Mbenga?

  • lakers916

UGLY WIN..BUt At Least we got the “W”

  • RoWyH

Luke’s getting’ more confident now. The difference about his game now is that he actually looks to shoot and drive inside more. All of those who dismissed Luke’s poor playing due to injury should know better now. Stop hating.

  • kobe-wan kenobi

dezmond, i guess you do not get it
it is not about luck, this is nba, if players shoot wide open they put it in.
we let em shoot wide open!
caron butler was like wide open since fisher was guarding him (much shorter) from far behind!

  • RoWyN

Anybody notice Radman’s defense has improved so much?

‘Bout damn time Luke stepped his a@# up like he supposed to.
Seeings though I’m a Wizards too(hence the mane DCLAKER)I’m kinda Nuetral on the topic today so I’m looking for free agents for both teams and I TOLD Y’ALL ARENAS WILL NOT BE IN A LAKERS UNIFORM NEXT SEASON. He said yesterday that if the team signs Antwan Jamison 1st,HE’LL TAKE A PAYCUT(WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT). I jumped out my chair when I heard that, now that’s CLASS right there,so SORRY NO ARENAS!

  • west213

guys u know the part in 3rd when its was like the 7nth minute, damnnn stevenson hit like 5 trees in a row…. my jaw dropped lol

  • MILO

People who are using someone else’s name are fu-ck-en lame and have no originality how sad you people need to get a life!

  • MILO

This is not looking good for the Lakers teams who have issues in the locker room lack the chemistry needed to win it all

I don’t know why y’all didn’t ask good ‘ol DC about those Wizards, remember I LIVE HERE so I got front row(my tv of course)everynight they play.

Wizards will not laydown or backdown no matter what the margin is.It can be 30 pt.deficit and them guys will find a way to come back. THE WIZ AIN’T(YES,AIN’T)MEMPHIS OR THE BOBCATS,THEY ARE GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS.

Lakers better against a strong team and it’s about time Kobe started diggin’ in his teammates A@* too ’cause Luke stepped up while Farmar looked a little timid out there(temporary problem for him though). We just need one of our BIGS back(Pau comes back WEDNES.)and they’ll be right back AT THE TOP!

  • BringDFishBack

Whoever writes these doesn’t know what they are talking about. The guy with the second highest +/- and assist to turnover ratio gets the STD? It ain’t all about the points, but I don’t expect you to get that. I’d give it to the guy who’s +/- was significantly lower than everyone else’s or the guy that picked up 2 fouls in 3 mins.

Milo, most of the team is fairly young and don’t really know how to turn up the pace against sub-par teams(except my Wizards, playoff team)only when they play the Elite teams, which is good but ALL THE TIME is needed this year,I don’t if your playing The Idaho Potatoes.SLICE ‘DEM F!@#ERS UP.

I’m a Leo just like KB so I’m kinda familiar with his attitude when things don’t go right, trust me they got the message(as shown by their intensity yesterday)but We as fans have to stop thinking teams are going to roll over for us,it’s just a NFL on their way to the playoffs,THERE’S ALWAYS A TEAM READY TO SPOIL THE PARTY and that’s any sport.

  • kingkb24

farmar had 4 big assist. mihm didnt do nething

  • Lakers 24 7

Brandon Roy might not even play in our next game against the Blazers

  • laker-nate

lol, farmar and vujacic both seem 2 ignore kobes need 4 the ball at times…sometimes that can be a good thing, but sometimes not so good…ive noticed that most of the season…im shocked they even have the courage to do that

  • Banzai

[Comment ID #31162 Will Be Quoted Here]
Won’t matter anyways..Lakers still can’t seem to beat a team even with the star player missing..besides Outlaw and Aldridge will have a merry time..don’t forget Steve Blake and Jarret Jack…I can only hope the Lakers come ready to play.

  • Tim

lakerz, kwame has MUCH, MUCH more talent than mbenga, kwame just has a bad work ethic and he gets fat whne hes out

  • SliqRiq

Sign Kwame back next year, he plays through his injuries even though his offense is what it is we need and miss his strength inside. Nobody pushes Kwame around besides he’ll be a good back up to Bynum.

Sign him back Mitch for the league minimum

  • pjt

see my comments(#38)after the Grizzlies game. Never underestimate my knowledge in the Lakers…Our role players did what I said, to a T, and we won…

Was it really hard to predict this??? Sasha took 17 shots the prior game which was the most he took all season in a game. He avgs. less than 10 a game so he definitely needed to take less. Radmonivic had 9 pts in 8 shots so yes he needed to be more productive and same with Walton esp. with bynum and gasol out. I would have been more impressed if you said kobe needed to shoot less and get his teammates more involved which is what he did. I think your overestimating your predictions.

  • pjt

[Comment ID #31241 Will Be Quoted Here]

no. Kobe needs to make more shots than he misses per game, that is key to his game, and a championship… :)

Well they lost when he scored 53 points and shot well, but he rarely passed and had only one assist. Then on Sunday he passed much more for 13 assists and although he shot poorly the lakers were better because he involved much of his teammates. Kobe willing to pass and involve his teammates much more is the key to a ship.
