As March Madness opened up tonight, this game fit right in. It was a game of runs, of good teams blowing leads but hanging on (UCLA).

This game was a blowout in the second half. I started packing for my trip to Vegas tomorrow, turn around and we are up three? The Lakers really have been playing poor ball of late.

Every Laker scored in double figures tonight and the Lakers shot very well. The problem again was their 22 turnovers — twice as much as Phil probably wanted.  A better team would have stolen this game with as poorly as the Lakers played.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1)  Pau had 21 points with 14 boards on 9-15 shooting.

2)  Lamar had 16 points, 12 boards, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

3)  Ariza had 13 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 3 steals to give us the same top three as last game.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest) – Kobe shot 9 of 25 and had 5 turnovers.

Play of the Game:  Ariza’s three late to put us up six.

What to Look for Next Game:  A rare Saturday night game for the Lakers in Chicago.

Ticket Info: Next home game is not until April so if any of you want to support the Lakers on the road, let me know. E-Mail me at or call 213-221-7681 and mention TLN for tickets.

Go Lakers!

He’s not back for long. He will lay an egg again next game. Watch and see.

he’s back to stay, just watch.

  • lainok

no, i agree with the first comment. I new coming close to playoff time that sasha would show up. I think he will do well in the playoffs. I have bet going that his career high will come in the game against sacramento next month. hope I’m right.

  • YellowPurpleFever

What’s up with Famar? Where’s the confidence of the “BenchMob”? He played Scare. We need him back like the 1st half of season. Monte ate him up and spit him out again and again, its really sad to watch. We need you BYNAMITE to be the enforcer. Again we need better DEFENSE. GO LAKERS!!! GO LUCK ON THIS TRIP 7-0

  • kwame4mvp

    sasha aint back. hes lame.

  • Chris Manning

Why all the negativity? Granted it wasn’t a “good” win, Sasha shooting well tonight is a good sign. Hopefully he’ll be able to consistently give us this!

  • dawg

    doubt it^

  • lafanfromindiana

I just emailed you about Lakers/Bulls tickets for this Saturday.

  • Razor Ramon

Bench Mob will be solidified once bynum is back in the mix!

who were in the OG bench mob of last year??

Farmar, Sasha, Luke and Bynum!! he got his grove going, kwame went down and drew kicked ass from there..

  • lafanfromindiana

I want to represent TLN while celebrating my birthday!

    Nice, got anything special planned?

  • lafanfromindiana

Well, if I can manage to get a deal on some tickets for Saturday’s game… I will think of someway to represent TLN at the game and will listen to any ideas you may have. I’ve been checking stubhub, but the prices are outrageous. I have a feeling Kobe is going to break The United Center scoring record held by Jerry Stackhouse (57).

Play of the day number 2 – Luke Walton’s dunk over Ronny Turiaf

  • zgum

    whats up with kobe now?

  • Dracul

Josh Powell, you’re doing great, just one thing:

Please stop trying to play point guard. Everytime you pass, it equals a turnover. It’s like Sasha trying to dunk. So this means don’t be a playmaker, don’t try to make fancy backdoor passes, just play your normal, finisher/rebounder/energy/inside game. Thank you.

Also, now I know why we’ve been blowing big leads as of late – before the game, Phil implements a game plan against the opposition. The plan is applied, seems to be effective, Lakers are up by 12-17 points at a certain point. Then PJ subs in people with something to prove, and especially people who have been struggling of late (I’m talking about Vujabrick and Farmo)

Now, these guys know they’ve been sucking, so they try to not have a 0-0-1-0-0-0 end of game stat line, and they start doing things that are not part of the game plan. Suddenly, they go away from the Laker team strength against the opposition and start playing some other type of game. And we all know the results.

Kobe needs to learn to defer to Pau and pick his spots instead of forcing shots up. Pau has been shooting 75% these past couple of games! 25 shots is too much, especially when it takes us out of the offense. Now before the Kobe nuthuggers go crazy, I think he’s the most lethal player in the game right now, but lately, especially in the 4th, he’s been pretty selfish with the shots.

…I would be the first to agree, Kobe’s had a couple of off nights in a row, but only a crazy caveman in their Geicoish dreams would say he’s overrated, and for the last 5 years, no less! …That is just simply “Stupid”!
…And, if you take careful notice, you will see a lot of Pau’s success has a lot to do when Kobe is on the court, as opposed to when Kobe is sitting.

  • BostonBlowsMyBalls

This was an ugly win, but I’ll take it. I missed the first half. Watching the second half, the bench mops didn’t disappoint. 18 point lead slipped away… right on cue! Why the hell is Flamer playin so many minuites (25)? Dude is a turnover machine and has no defense. Not to mention he was getting torched by Ellis.

Vujabrick has one good game and everyone is already blowin their load. Don’t forget this was the Warriors. We need consistency, and I don’t know if he can bring the determination every night.

Pow-wow has no hops. Dude missed some easy dunks. Brown played for only 5 minutes? All of Flamer minutes should go to Brown, Ammo should get Flukes minutes and Vujabrick and Pow-wow minutes should be very limited. Have Fluke and Flamer join Sun in the D-league or pop warner or some shyt.

Bynum reports seem to be like a c_ocktease, so I’m not expecting the guy back until I see him playing on TV. Without him, it will be tough to get out of the tough western conference. I think the Cavs will secure the best record for home court. They have the best change with 10 home games. We might have a chance if we go 6-1 or 7-0 on this road trip.

  • BostonBlowsMyBalls

One more thing… Kobe was not DOG(Dumba$$ Of the Game), it was Flamer. Although Kobe sucked a$$ tonight (9-25 shooting). Must be a distraction with the court case of some shyt. I’m never worried about KB, it’s the bench mops I’m worried about and PJ. If PJ gives the bench mops extended minutes, we are in trouble (especially in close game situations). I don’t care if he wants them to play it out, it’s bad strategy.

  • domz

Bench are getting minutes as of late because phil wants the starters to have more rest because the playoffs is coming.

  • Farmabrick

The rotation is all messed up. As much as Ariza deserves to play with the starters and as strangely as Luke is playing, Luke needs to go back to the starting line-up with Arixa coming off the bench (and finishing the game). Luke is too slow to play the uptempo game PJ wants the Bench Mops to play, but he is a nice compliment to the slowed-down game the starters play, particularly when Bynum returns, at which point Lamar comes off the bench again, subbing in for Andrew with Ariza subbing for look at the same time. As for Farmar, not sure where his game has gone. He’s regressed to his rookie year. So, the starting five and their subs are: Andrew (Lamar), Pau (Powell), Fisher (Farmar), Luke (Trevor), Kobe (Sasha), with Lamar and Trevor getting inserted about halfway through Q1.

  • lainok

if farmar cuts his hair, his game will come.

This is just another example of why you should not be posting anything of substance on this site ever again. Are you seriously saying that LA would be better off without Black Mamba? Apparently, you must of had some sort of head trauma over the last few days. First your 316 trash and now this? I’ll give you one thing. You sure know how to stir up the hornets nest!

thats what my dad said.. and rafner.. kobe overrated? you hate bynumite? take it easy there budddy.

  • Lakes4Life

Didn’t Pau have like 4 turnovers himself cause he cant hold on to the ball like a man? Pau’s been pissing me with his softness again and missing all these easy and 1 plays and not being able to hold onto the ball. He said he has bene getting tougher, but as it comes to crunch time and playoffs i see the old gasol coming back when he got owned in the paint.

Same with Sasha pick up your game man!!! You too Farmar!!

  • Jacks

sasha is back everyone. ITS FARMAR THAT NEEDS TO WAKE UP!!!!

For all you “Lakers fans” bagging on Sasha, wake up! At least Sasha came out to play this game!

We just need to see more efficiency from him and I think he’ll be alright.

The one I’m afraid of is Farmar. It seems like he doesn’t know what to do out there. He committed turn over after turn over. Bad passes and decisions.

I hope he breaks out of this funk and explodes on Chicago. If not, I think Phil needs to try Shannon Brown with the 2nd unit. At least he plays with energy. Farmar just seems like he’s scared and totally indecisive with his passes and shots.

  • stdecker

Sasha is stil horrible. I pray every day that we get rid of him next year. Just wait and see how he does next game whoever thinks hes back(he was never HERE to be back). One good game(for him, wow 12 whole points) just means there will be at least three more bad(normal sasha games) ones. But for the record, i do HOPE he can contribute during the playoffs, but i dont expect him to. Besides hating his game, he is the mast annoying player in the league, and i am not talking about his Supposedley “pesky defense” i am talking about his lame persona. If anyone wants a good laugh check out his myspace page, the pictures say it all. And i guarantee you he put it together himself. He is such a joke.

  • Farmabrick

Neither Farmar nor Sasha have had a good second half of the season and methinks I detect some tension/hatin’ going on between them. Watching Monta Ellis drain shot after shot made me long for a backup PG/G who can consistently hit an outside shot. Neither guy can play good D: Sasha’s bouncey, hippity-hoppity rabbit-style of motion wastes a lost of energy (watch the slower Fisher: he glides, yet still manages to stay in front of his man), while Farmar, despite great top-end speed, just cannot seem to concentrate at the defensive end of the court, so his guy blows by him time and time again. I’d love to package these two guys, plus Luke, and see if the Lakers could get some sort of G/PG back in return.

  • LakersLivefromDC

I like it when I haven’t been here for a while and where it says leave a reply it says “WELCOME BACK LAKERSLIVE (DC LAKER)”!

We still the best team, bloggers and site…EVER(for real we are).I missed my Laker fam and just wanted to tell y’all..I’M STILL UNEMPLOYED BUT OUR LAKERS ARE STILL HANDLIN’BIZNESS.One Love from DC.

It does not matter which unit Luke plays in, the result will always be a slower/digressed group out on the floor… Sadly, he can’t help but move in slower motion than everyone else.

agreed. it’s almost as if he’s trying to get mvp. last month i was thinking kobe was definitely mvp. but the way he’s been playing these last two weeks, i’m thinking not. and it’s frustrating, because for most of the year he’s deserved it when that douche rob only put him at 1 once.
