This should have been one of those memorable games for the Lakers. Unfortunately, Stephen Jackson spoiled it. It’s amazing that the Lakers could score 111 points on 41% shooting and 8-27 threes. How did the Lakers jack up more threes than the Warriors? Kobe had 9 alone!

The biggest problem for the Lakers was the fast pace which led to 18 turnovers. The Lakers just didn’t take care of the ball tonight. A positive however was the teams’ free-throw shooting. LA shot 25-29 from the stripe. The team also showed resurgence after erasing a 23 point halftime deficit.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Kobe didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, but had big shots down the stretch. He had 36 points, 14 boards, and 8 assists.

2) While Lamar took 19 shots to get his 19 points, he grabbed 22 rebounds (9 offensive), 4 assists, 2 steals, and 4 blocks. Unfortunately, he along with Ronny had 5 turnovers.

3) Fisher was stroking the ball well tonight. 16 points with 3-4 threes.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Sasha didn’t contribute much tonight. 1 point in 16 minutes.

Play of the Game: Kobe’s around the back spin, wrap around pass to Ronny for the And1 Slaaaaam Dunk!

What to look for next game: Look for the Lakers to come out smoking hot. But then blow the lead, and come back in the end. Pretty much the complete opposite of tonight’s game vs GS.

Game is Monday @ 7:30 PM (KCAL, FSBA).

  • Sako

not to mention the incredible defense, 72 points in the first half by the warriors, & leaving stephen jackson open for the 3 at the end of the game

  • e

i agree with sasha being there…i also think he should have shared it with luke, bcuz his lack of defense on jackson cost us at the end…we had everything, except the last second defense…pick it up luke, or else ull get dropped like cook and kwame

  • Michael_23

This was just one of those games …

We could have used Trevor against Stephen Jackson.

It’s scary if we face this team in the 1st round. I rather have the Lakers play any other team in the first round. But I feel confident with Pau and Drew being there to be the difference makers.

i fu*king miss trevor so much now…luke is worthless

i agree…thats why im fine with us being in the 2nd seed…i think we play good against dallas…and if dallas stays put n we end up in 2nd…were good…and speaking of dallas…nowitzki messed up his ankle BAD tonight…OUCH!…so even better for us “IF” we meet them in the 1st round

  • e

[Comment ID #30311 Will Be Quoted Here]

id prefer first seed bcuz im hoping for the nuggets to make a push and we killed them three times this season, so that would be really nice for us…and even if we playd gsw, i wanna see them get spanked by us

  • Devean George

If we have pau or bynum in the middle, the warriors will not be a problem!

  • phaman

[Comment ID #30312 Will Be Quoted Here]

i mean who wouldnt prefer 1st…but i ono…u think nuggets will push up past GS?…but then agen…dallas might come to a slum cuz of dirk’s injury…supposedly hes out for 2 weeks but it looked pretty bad…maybe they’ll lose enough games for GS n nuggets to move up…maybe….

  • e

[Comment ID #30314 Will Be Quoted Here]

my take on it is that if we think we’re ready to win a championship, no point in strategizing our seeding, play smart, hustle and defend we should be good…thats what was missing today, our defense, but we definitely picked it up at the second half

  • Jack

it’s probably better to be the 2nd seed. If we see gstate, it’s hard to tell. If they get it going, they have 33- 10 point games so far, it’s nothing differnt for them. But, what happens to kobe’s MVP?

Also, I hate the “los lakers” thing now. Short shorts weren’t good, this isn’t either. Lakers should stop trying differnt wardrobes, i guess.

we should all hate s.jackson for tonight. (I loved him against dallas last year)

  • Jack

bad mistake: I meant gstate has 33-100 point game this season. Also, Lamar is the king of boards. gr8 job.

  • phaman

[Comment ID #30318 Will Be Quoted Here]

i kno right?..lamar is killin the boards right now…i honestly thought he was gonna fall back to his old ways when gasol got injured since he was back to the second option…but he really stepped up…im proud of him

  • LakersOnFire

we’d dominate them with our big men back in the playoffs. i wouldn’t be that worried facing them with our team at full strength.

  • e

[Comment ID #30321 Will Be Quoted Here]

    i absolutely agree

  • lakerfani

ive always been scared about gs, especially after last year
when they upset dallas (one of the best series ive ever seen)
they’re really unpredictable. and i like their team a lot (bd, ellis, jackson, barnes) BUT i do love my lakers more :)
still, i dont want the lakers to face them in the first round
i would be fine with either denver or dallas

    OH
lamar is a MONSTER in rebounds!

  • Thuggishdeer

fucking shit man! this was kobe’s chance to seal the deal for mvp!!!!!! look at his stats man. if this was a win, the voters for mvp (espn) would have locked it up.

  • nashski

The biggest problem is DEFENSE!!!!, If THere isn´t DEFENSE there isn´t TITLE!!!!.
It not possible that they do it 72 points in the middle of the game.
    MORE DEFENSE….MORE CONCENTRATION!!!

  • Smush Walton

Kobe missed too many shots in the first half. Sasha has all but disappeared. He was out of control a number of times. I guess we can drop “The Machine” because that is a joke. And then there’s good old Smush Walton. You can always count on him for a number of mindless turnovers , shots that end up nowhere near the rim, and slow motion – no jump post moves. Great D tonight Smush! Today’s lesson – When you are slow and have no quickness you can’t leave a hot 3 point shooter WIDE OPEN! I can’t wait until Ariza gets back so we can park Smush on the bench next to Karl.

  • http://thelakersnation.com ThE NeXt FaRmAr 5

a win is coming tonight i can feel it

  • T-Dub

Everyone seems to forget that we are at the top of the western conference…thats WESTERN CONFERENCE…all without 4 of our top players.

  • David

I would love to play this team in the 1st round. With Gasol and Bynum back we would sweep them. They have no answer for good post players, hell even Ronny lit them up and he’s average at best.

  • mfoznot

I blame the jerseys. LOS LAKERS my A55!! Also I think this was a great game to watch and I can’t wait for the playoffs. This is going to be fun.

  • T.A.

    EVERYONE IS MISSING THE POINT!!!

We want to be the #1 seed

we want to have home court advantage against a team like the Hornets or Jazz

We want teams to have to beat us in STAPLES!!!

  • Short Diezel

LUKE is PLAYING LIKE S#IT… HE IS A LIABILITY ON THE DEFENSIVE END AND IS NO THREAT ON THE OFFENSIVE END.. EVERYTHING HE DOES IS IN SLOW MOTION.. HE IS INCONSISTENT ON HIS JUMP SHOT AND FREE THROWS.. HE CAN’T DUNK.. HE IS A TURNOVER WAITING TO HAPPEN..

BOTTOM LINE.. WHY IS HE IN THE ROTATION?

ISN’T THAT WHY WE SIGNED NEWBLE? TO LOCK DOWN SMALL FORWARDS AND SHOOTING GUARDS..WHY DOES JACKSON KEEP LUKE IN THE GAME, ESPECIALLY DURING CRUCIAL MOMENTS? I AM TIRED OF THE EXCUSES.. HIS ANKLE ISN’T 100.. HE IS IN A SLUMP.. BLAH BLAH BLAH.. STEP UP YOUR GAME OR SIT OUT

ONE BIG PLUS I SAW LAST NIGHT WAS JORDAN FARMAR.. HE WAS AGGRESSIVE.. AND I MEAN AGRESSIVE.. THAT IS THE WAY ALL THE LAKERS SHOULD BE PLAYING EVERY NIGHT

  • http://MYSPPCE lakers818

What is wrong with the defense leaving STEPHEN MONKEY JACKSON ALONE IN THE END OF THE GAME…dam MonKEy Face ShApe lIke Non HumAn BeINg..LAKERS NEED PAYBAK

  • http://lakers.com bynum_is_back

    I AGREE “SHORT DIESEL”

IF LUKE WALTON COMES BACK NEXT SEASON WE ARE REALLY STUPID….GET RID OF HIM HE DONT GOT NOTHING ON OFFENSE AND DEFENSE WASTE OF MONEY WASTE OF PLAYER..CANT MAKE HIS OWN PLAYS..CANT SHOOT 3’S…I SHOULD BE IN THE NBA FOR ONCE..WE SHOULD PUT IN NEWBLE INSTEAD OF LUKE WALTON IN LAST NITE GAME..I MEAN C’OM ON KNOW “””LUUUKE””””

PUT HIM IN THE CATEGORY OF KWAME BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!

WE SHOULDVE TRADED LUKE INSTEAD OF MARICE EVANS OR BRAIN COOK….

    C’MON LuKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEE PLZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • kevin 818

Man we should of put ira In so he can guard stephen for the last couple minutes wats the point of signing him for 10 days and not use him

  • Envision4

Newble needs time to understand the offense before we can just throw him in the mix. Luke is crap, we all know that and I’m sure PJ does too, but until we give Newble some practice time we can’t put him in the mix.

Walton is a cancer, moreso then our PG position still is. We lack defense on the PG and SF positions.

LUKE WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LEAVE JACKSON TO DOUBLE TEAM BARON WHEN JACKSON HAS BEEN SHOOTING 80% FROM BEYOND THE ARCH ALL NIGHT LONG?????

I HATE YOU WALTON, HATE YOU. Do us all a favor and break your ankles then go do crappy commentary with your dad.

P.S. STOP POSTING PEOPLE UP, YOU HAVE NO POST-UP GAME OR ANY GAME FOR THAT MATTER.

    Love,

    Your biggest fan.

  • DCLAKER

Lakersonfire, your exactly right my friend. When Gasol or Bynum or both get back,LIGHTS OUT. Our team is not at full strength and they’re still in 1st place, now that’s incredible if you ask me.

Golden State should have blown out The Lakers because of the missing personel but they(Lakers)fought back and didn’t give up but YOU CAN’T LEAVE A SHOOTER LIKE S.JACKSON WIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE OPEN,rediculous

I’m proud of my team still and have found a new respect for them, seeings though they were down by 23 or 24 points,we have to look at the fact that this game would’ve been over had they given up in the 2nd half but they didn’t and to me that spells PROBLEMS for whoever we see in the playoffs when AB/Pau get back and then when MAGNUM T.A.(TREVOR ARIZA)makes his return,LOCKDOWN!!!

Who all thinks Mickael Pietrus would be a good addition to the Lakers in the off season. I heard him and Don Nelson don’t get along good. He can score, they’re best player on defense(well,he’s the only one who does)and is tough to defend, basically he reminds of Ariza,THINK ABOUT IT!

  • LakeShowtime

Luke and Sasha played way too out of control, that’s the reason we lost, no defense no offense stupid plays. Newble should have been there in the last 2 minutes at least to hound Jackson, tonight will be different.

  • Al

They should have used Ira on Jackson instead of Fluke Walton. And who made the decision to guard Baron by Radmanovich, leaving Jackson all alone at 3. Great coaching Phil, eh?

  • lakernate

sry, but did any1 besides me catch sasha shoot a 3 on a 1 on 3 “fastbreak”?…who the fukkk does he think he is???? sasha needs 2 calm down and know his role as a set shooter…and he pizzes me off when he gets a board and sprints up the court all crazy…GIVE THE BALL TO THE PG U AZZ!!!

  • MILO

The lakers didn’t look to take advantage of the foul trouble on some of the GS players they let BD get away with picking up 2 early fouls…

  • MILO

Oh and why the fu-ck was Fisher on Jackson instead of LO in the last two possesions???

  • Luke needs to go

Luke does not belong in the Lakers….I never liked him ever since he joined in 2004. Never saw any improvements from that guy. I rather choose Bill Walton to join the Lakers just to talk nonsense on the sidelines like he always does. That would be more enjoyable than seeing his son lose the ball over and over or miss easy shots.

That is so funny cuz I be getting pissed for the same thing all the time, the guy is a freakin moron why the Phil continue to play these weirdos.

Also this team needs to get their big boys (Pau,Bynum) back soon this is ridiculous all the time they need to get back everybody keeps saying well were still in 1st and when we get Pau and Bynum back its gonna be lights out but heck WHEN is the question it is very important that these 2 get out there soon so they can have some continuity playing together and not learning in the playoffs how to play with 1 another.

Its just pathetic how Kobe can hurt himself and be right back in the line up, these cream puffs need suck it up and get out there already!!!!!!

  • KWAME WALTON

once again fluke i mean “KWAME WALTON” has something to do with us losing. once again “KWAME WALTON” plays horrible defense. once again “KWAME WALTON” plays horrible offense.
    “TRADE”
    KWAME WALTON FOR
    BRIAN COOK AND BILL WALTON

  • DCLAKER

Since it’s unanimous that Luke either has to step up or get traded or just f!@#in’ leave LA(Though I don’t see him leaving no time soon),I pulled up,on ESPN,a list of The 2008 Free Agents,it would be a good idea to who WE AT LAKERNATION would put some fire under FLUKEY LUKE if they were to come to The Land of Purple and Gold. Let me know who y’all like.

  • daboss1848

Not really sure y there is so much misdirected animosity towards Luke:
    1) Jax 1st 3 – Walton went to help defend Ellis who was on his way for a layup. Fish, instead of rotating to Lukes man, ran back to Ellis, thus leaving Jax wide open. Luke ran at Jax after Ellis pass
    2) Jax 2nd 3 – PJ was running a box and 1 zone with vlad as the one on BD. Fish and LO were up. Jax was on Fish side.

Box and 1? Really PJ? Box and 1 in the NBA? ROFL

  • LakerNation1

    i always hated Stephen Jackson

  • DCLAKER

Can’t hate a man that has changed his life around and his game. You wanna hate(not REALLY HATE but…)look at the team,Sliqriq,I disagree with you and Lakernate about Sasha. This guy has bailed out The Lakers on more than one occassion during the season, yes he can be a liitle “eccentric”(okay alot)but his 3 point shots and his defensive energy has been one of the reasons why the Lakers are STILL at the top of the West.We love our players when they do good and crucify them when things get a little tough. You ask me I don’t think ANYBODY on this site is really mad at Sasha or Luke(well…YEAH!WE ARE MAD AT LUKE)more so than the fact that THEY LOSS,PERIOD!

  • lakernate

well i aint hatin on sasha completely, i just feel like he needs 2 play to his strengths, and him handling the ball/ going 1 on 3 arent his strengths haha…but i definitely love the way he plays when its within the offense

  • DCLAKER

Your right about playing to his strengths,’cause he can really get beside himself at times,Lakernate.

  • Rholly_dreamz

yah!i totally agree with you DCLAKER,when you said that it’s about time to let go of FLUKE “D USELESS” WALTON and try to really consider getting MIKAEL PIETRUS.he is really a very nice fit to our team because of his defense/offense and he is really a team oriented player who has a very good work ethics.not to mention his outmost desire to WIN!i know KOBE will like him coz they hate lossing games!

mitch, plzzzzzzzzzzz consider signing MIKAEL PIETRUS next season and PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ let go of FLUKE ” D USELESS” WALTON.

  • drake hunter

    I HATE LUKE WALTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • drake hunter

Walton, you F’cken annoy the F@#K out of me. I F@#KEN hate you! WHy are you playing, why are you wearing the Laker jersey, why the F@#K are you in the rotation. I rather have a defensive minded rebounder who doesn’t know the offense like Ira Newble play rather than have Luke F@#KEN Walton play. Turn the ball over again B I T C H! Your F@#KEN pathetic

  • T-Dub

Im telling you guys…the Waltons have some dirt on someone in the Lakers organization. They gave him a 6 yr deal. Get use to him!

  • Lakers 24 7

LUKE cant guard Stephen Jackson, put Newble on him, or another big body, we need to play some trap defense
