The Lakers 9 game win streak against the Warriors has come to an end. I’m pretty confident it would be different if Kobe hadn’t got hurt in the fourth. Seemingly every play after that benefited the Warriors. Kobe missing jumpers, Kobe getting beat off the dribble, and Ariza forced to play in crucial minutes for Kobe.

Overall, it was a game of streaks. Lakers had their runs, so did the Warriors. The Lakers had 20 turnovers and only shot 42%. What kept the game close was the Lakers 53 rebounds (17 offensive) and getting to the stripe 37 times. Great job by the bigs tonight on the boards. Now, the bests of the night:

Top 3 Laker performers:

1) Andrew Bynum was getting praised all night by the ESPN crew—and he showed us why. 17 points on 8-10 shooting. 16 rebounds and a block, only 1 turnover too.

2) Derek Fisher played terrific defense all night. He also scored 16 points and got 3 steals.

3) Lamar came through tonight and was the Lakers best +/- guy. When he was in the game, the Lakers were +6 over the Warriors. He finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest):

Vlad Rad looked lost and slow. 4 turnovers in 12 minutes won’t get it done. The +/- also shows as he was the worst at -6.

Key play of the game
: Kobe’s alley oop to Bynum for the throw down!

What to look for next game: An easy W. This one shouldn’t even be close vs the Clippers. Game is Sunday night @ 6:30 PM.

Without Kobe, it could be closer than you think. Lets hope he plays!

Lakers should’ve taken Kobe out the final minutes. He didn’t have movements on the floor. Cost us an easy win. Kobe should’ve let PJ to put him on the bench. But he forced himself to stay. Should’ve put Ariza in earlier. When Ariza was put in, just a couple of seconds, almost got a steal on Baron. Bad coaching in part for the Lakers is what lost the game. Making Kobe stay longer could’ve injured him more.

Hope he’s well enough to play the Clippers tonight. GO LAKERS!

Smush of the Day should have been Kobe. Shot 6-23 (26%) including 0-6 on 3s. He wouldn’t give the ball up in the worth despite not being able to make anything. He couldn’t play D and gave up easy basket after easy basket at the end that let the warriors back in it. 5 turnovers as well.

Kobe deserved Smush of the Day but I don’t think Lakernation would allow it. There would be riots and protests, and probably a boycott of the lakernation.

Lol ab4sure your right there gonna be riots and protests, lolz but he does deserve it.

Kobe should definitely be the STD for this game. He kept us in the game? He shot 6-23 during the game, how could he have possibly kept us in the game, He wasnt shooting well and wasnt playing good D all night. Odom, bynum, fish, and our bench were the ones keeping us in the game.

Anyone else notice Kobes not playing hard D anymore? Maybe its the injuries, but for several games now ive noticed him not contesting fastbreak shots on one on one situations, like monta elis on break but Kobe doesnt even jump at him or during the orlando game where hedo turkolgu was on break but kobe didnt contest his layup. This happened couple more times too. Whats up with that? These games were tight and those plays needed to be made. He’ll block Kirilenko on a two handed slam, but not contest smaller guys like Ellis. Apparently his goal for the year is to win the defensice player award, i think he changed goals.

I wish Lamar can play this good every time, and it was just one bad day for kobe he should sit out until he can be kobe agin. If Lamar keeps this up than we be great team. Kobe 1st Scorer, Lmar 2nd, and then our bench will be great also.

  • kingkb24

bynum did good offensively, but did a crappy job on defence.

  • MILO

Also, Steve what game did kobe get the STD??? becuase looking at his stats i don’t see him doing poorly enough to receive one. the game logs usually have him doing a decent job.

just curious how did he do bad on defense??? he had 16 boards and one block, he also affected alot of shots without blocking them and his counterpart Biedrins had 10 pts but Biedrins didn’t get those except when Bynum had to leave him and help on defense.

I agree with Luke for STD this time around.

Hey, Blackmamba24… nice to see you!

As for KB getting STD, very tough when the guy is the entire focus of the defense. Even when he plays awful like he did, early on he was helping the others get shots and nice looks. In the end, his D was horrible, but it was because he was unjured. This is why I give the STD to eitehr Luke or… PJ. I don’t think PJ is eligible, since it has to be a “player”, hence, Luke.

As I said in another blog:

I can’t believe people haven’t mentioned the horrific free throw shooting by the Lakers down the stretch!!! Kobe being injured did not lose the game nor did LO down the stretch. Not making their free throws down the stretch is the reason why they lost on Friday night. The Lakers dominiated the Warriors all night but when the Lakers had the chance to put them away with their free throw shooting, they didn’t do it.

Kobe missed one down the stretch (the technical that Baron got was missed by Kobe. Why isn’t Fisher taking all technicals when he’s on the court. He’s a 90+% free throw shooter this year), LO missed a few down the stretch, Turiaf had four free throws and converted on only one (we had an 6 point lead at that time and Turiaf could’ve made it double digits killing any hope Warrior hope for a comeback). Even Fish missed a free throw down the stretch.

When you miss free throws down the stretch, you’re just inviting the inferior team to steal the game, just as the Warriors did. Personally, I think the Lakers are much better than the Warriors.

It’s stupid people like you 2 who think all there is to basketball is scoring, stats, and how the individual performs. You don’t notice anything under stats. Great passes to set up plays mean nothing. Talking out there means nothing. Telling people where they need to be means nothing. Tell others things they could do to improve means nothing. There is more to the game of basketball than stats.
