What an entertaining win for the Lakers tonight.

The Lakers led for pretty much the entire night, but Shaq and company kept it close for most of the game. In the end, Kobe got the last laugh as the Lakers won 130-124. It was a high scoring affair as both teams shot well. The Lakers shot 57% from the field and 85% from the free-throw line.

The Lakers also only had 9 turnovers. Rarely does a team get outrebounded by 13 like the Lakers did and come out with a victory. Everyone stepped up in this big game, including the bench. This was a huge road win for the Lakers. This just shows how deadly this team is, even without Bynum, winning their last 5 on the road. Is it too early to line up for the parade yet?

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker performers:

1) Guess who? Kobe. 41 points on 16-25 shooting. He also had 2 steals and 2 blocks. MVP

2) What a shocker. Pau gets #2 again. 29 points on 13-19 shooting. He did well against Shaq only giving up 15 and 9.

3) Lamar once again continues to shine with Pau. 22 points and 11 boards tonight. He is a Suns killer!

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): D.J. Mbenga again was the only Laker who failed to score. He just doesn’t look that good anymore.

Play of the game: Kobe had so many dunks, but Pau had a nice one at the end. You pick.

What to look for next game: The Lakers get a little rest before they beat the Clippers on Saturday. It is a Clippers home game, so the Lakers can extend their road win streak to 6 games. Game is Saturday @ 7:30 PM (KCAL, KTLA, and NBATV).

man… can i just say beasttt!

  • dcb2069

I thought Farmar had an off game too. Yeah he hit a three, but he got burned on quite a few series, and of course there was that not so smart pass that led to the fast break that really swung the momentum of the game. He might get my STD.

But then again I remember watching DJ and thinking “Oh my god, we have a beta version of Kwame”

  • http://getgarnett.com jonasjulienjoseph

    kobe has 41
    lamar had 22 11
    pau had 29
    sasha had 15
ronny was 100 % from the feild and had two big blocks

the only thing i didnt like was the rebounding, but when we get andrew back will be fine

  • iLakers

    wow…Lakers answered every Suns rally.

I can only wonder how good the team will be with Bynum…and maybe Ariza in the mix.

    Sky’s the limit.

Suns didn’t look too bad with Shaq in there. Should we be worried down the line when he’s more familiar with the offense…or do you think he’ll probably get injured again?

    We’ll see…

Pau continues to erase the bad memories of Kwame. That dunk to the basket where he got fouled was too sic. For a second i tried to imagine what Kwame would have done (TO…haha).

One last note, Bell paid the price today for the cheap clothesline to KB24…karma baby!

This game proved that: GASOLine has much higher octane than DIESEL. Besides, Diesel fouls up the air, leaves a nasty residue and causes knocks and pings (and dings and dents). Ask Raja who got his BELL rung up good and got sent to the shop. Gasoline burns quietly but hotly, is more reliable, is low maintenance and carries you far. Diesel makes a lot of noise, promises a high mileage but breaks down before it gets you to your destination, costs a lot to repair, and has a short warrantee.

That’s why the Lakers sold their old Diesel and got themselves a brand new GASOLine. I guess the dealership sold a big lemon to the Suns. Man, that Miami dealership has some sales man, I think his name is Riley or something.

KEY PLAYER OTHER THAN BIG THREE: SAHA VUJACIC HAS BEEN GREAT THE PAST 12 GAMES AVERAGING ABOUT 12 PTS A GAME. HE IS FINALLY COMING THREW.

SLIIPING A BIT: MY GUTY FARMAR WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN LATELY YOU ARE THE LEADER OF THE BENCH MOB. YOU GOTTA GET BACC TO WHERE YOU WHERE AT THE BEGGINING OF THE YEAR. THANK SASHA FOR FILLING YOUR VOID. WE NEED THE FARMAR FROM THE ROOKIE CHALLENGE BACK.. AND NOW.

From here on…everyone will look back to this game (one for the archives NBA classic) and say that this was the game that the Lakers made a statement to the entire league (on their way to another DYNASTY).

No one will doubt now that Kobe was truly the MVP of 2007-2008 conference and will be in this years finals.

    We are the LAKERS.

    I’m happy now!

  • MILO

If Kobe doesn’t win MVP this season then we’ll really know that the league defenitely has a grudge with him.Tonights performance was great and showed why he should be MVP.Im also begining to buy into the idea that Kobe’s finger is fine he just wanted a break for the all-star weekend. That is how committed Kobe is to the Lakers, he sacrificed his start in the showboat all-star game for the better of the team.KOBE IS A TRUE GUARRIOR (IJ) HE HE HE!!!

  • Ko-Pau19

this was such an intense game that i was glued on my tv! great all around game from our lakers especially lamar who i think is benefiting the most from the trade! also kobe and gasol both had an amazing night and raja’s big bump on his head was the icing on the cake! serves him right, he deserved it for being such a dirty player. what goes around comes around raja! GOOO LAKERS!

  • BIGUSCFAN24

Im happy that the lakers won but is it just me or is it always the person that i hate with a passion ( Amare ) that gets the and 1 calls when half of them shouldnt be. If lakers win the pacific and get top 2 seed ( im hopin 1 ) how can you deny kobe MVP?

  • Sopi

both team played great basketball, which is good, what showed how good the lakers is! (without bynum)
i cannot wait to see bynum pwned shaq lol!

best team in the west, lakers
best team in the east, piston boston

i hope laker vs suns in west final
lakers vs celtics in nba final
and both kobe and gasol holding champ trophy with smile and tears on their face~

I agree with you. This was a statement game. We all liked it because the team showed the kind of poise we have wanted to see for a LONG time and in doing that affirmed our hope that they’re for real. The whole league is taking notice, shaking in their boots. They were all wary of the Lakers before their Gasolinization. Once the team went Gas the whole West has been scrambling, sometimes in desperation, to adjust. I love it, because it’s in such desperation that people make fundamental errors.

BE AFRAID, NBA, BE VERY AFRAID.

  • rasarx

It’s too early to decide MVP now. What if N.O. wins the NBA? Would you then deny that Chris Paul would have to win it? Or what if Phoenix finishes last but Shaq improves his free throw percentage to above 50%, or he plays all the games for the rest of the season, or his weight doesn’t baloon to 340? Wouldn’t you give it to him then?

They need a new category: MBP (the Most Bloated Player). And the nominees are: Oops, there is only one nominee.

    lol!!!!

It’s incredible how much a rejuvenated all-star big man with a legit post game can be in the triangle with Kobe. Here’s Gasol unhappy with back issues in Memphis while their fans criticized him for playing whenever he feels like. Now he’s playing the best basketball of his career here without having to be that 1st option.

Winning solves so many things. Kobe kicked it into another gear ever since Gasol was announced that he was a Laker. Hell, even Lamar is more motivated these days.

Bynum isn’t even back yet and the Lakers are winning at the a similar pace BEFORE Bynum went down/during Bynum’s maturity point on the defensive end (after the Orlando game).

Gasol is shooting 65% and averaging 22 PPG. That is fraking through the roofs. It’s similar to Bynum’s shooting percentages. Even when teams took away Bynum’s lobs he was still shooting the same percentage (after the Boston game).

His rebounding leaves much to desire so he must be paired with an active rebounder like Bynum or Lamar. Nonetheless, Kwame was a pretty subpar rebounder for his size anyway and Gasol or any legit all-star big man for the matter >>>>>>>> Kwame.

This system is perfect for a legit C or PF with talent. Kwame Brown is a fraking dumbass for wasting his opportunity here.

  • BEC

I loved how this team played tonight they showed a lot of confidence and a lot of poise. I liked Kobes comments to the team saying dont think you can do it, know you can do, we are that good of a team, the confidence hes instilling on this team is really nice to see. Everyday this team is getting better and better, its going to be fun seeing this young team in the playoffs, because like shaq said when in the last decade has a young team a title. I think they have a good shot at it this year, they have all the talent thats needed to win, they just have to keep working hard.

  • LakersFirst (Change) (Close)

I am so glad Shawn Marion was sent to the east. Phoenix giving up Shawn Marion was a mistake that benefits Kobe and the Lakers. Other than Bell, Marion was the only other player they would put on Kobe and now the Suns don’t have that luxury. Without Marion, the Suns were reduced to putting an old Grant Hill on Kobe and you saw how Kobe embarrassed him.

If the Suns don’t get another player to guard Kobe, Kobe is going to light them up for an average of 40 points a game. Don’t be surprised if the Suns sign the self-proclaimed “Kobe-stopped”, Ruben Patterson.

Personally I don’t think it matters, the Lakers are a better overall team than Phoenix. Just imagine when Bynum comes back, Shaq won’t be getting easy rebounds like he got tonight.

That takes me to my second point, why is everyone on ESPN saying that Shaq played extremely well? He had 15 points and 9 rebounds. His average this season is 14 points and 7 boards. To me, he did his average.

  • Nabil

Best game of the season so far, IMHO. I think Kobe is above being happy at Raja getting knocked out like that. I think Raja, despite a few times stepping over the line, has Kobe’s respect now because he goes balls to the wall. But yes, it was ironic that his own team mate and ex-Laker did it. Especially considering the fact that Shaq probably wouldn’t have been in a suns uniform if he and the suns hadn’t bitch-slapped Kwame around so bad last time around. That led to Nation letting their voices be heard, which lead to the Gasol trade, which led to the Shaq trade, which led to us kicking their asses and a knock out from the Big Elbow. Thanks Shaq, you’re still a Laker!

for 2nd option, gasol, bynum, odom, fish, any of them can and will step up to be
thats how good the lakers is!

oops i almost forgot our best bench in the league~

  • David

Great game, great win. There was a lot of talk and doubt whether the lakers can win 50 games which looks like we will do no doubt, but I think, actually I believe we can win 60 games this year.

Play of the game in my opinion, Pau’s junior junior skyhook ala Magic at the end of the quarter.

  • Rpoc

    Mbenga got mBANGed count:

    Vince – 1
    Okafor – 1
    Shaq – 1

It’s unfortunate for the the daco savior. Dude’s got to pick his spots so he doesn’t get mBANGed on.

After the game. Shaq said Kobe’s the best player in the league right now!!! Wow.

  • Jack

[Comment ID #26978 Will Be Quoted Here]

Well Shaq has been saying that since quite a while.

Aniways, there was a Lunar Eclipse today. I mean literlly. There was a lunar eclipse today, both on earth and inside earth in a place called us airways arena. The Lakers are playing great basketball right now. Kobe is playin the best ball of his career. We all know Kobe’s desire for a championship is more than any other player in this league. and with the supporting cast he might very well be on his way.

I will have to admit i have never seen NBA analysts so hyped up and talking positive stuff about my team. Stepen A’s picked Lakers from the west, and Bill Walton thinks Kobe’s the MVP so far.

There is a few days rest now and I guess Gasol can finally find himself a place to rest in this gap.

P.S. has anyone noticed a very very tiny smily face at the end of this Lakernation.com page? I wonder if these guys did it intentionallY?

  • Mr. Juan / Your Warlock

This game wasn’t even that close: The Suns got a substantial majority of the favorable calls at criticle times tonight….this is why the Lakers didn’t go from a 12-13 point lead to possibly an 18-20 point lead, on a couple of occasions….HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!…GO LAKERS!

A special thanks to Kevin Garnett for NOT coming to the Lakers.

Him not coming here, helped us keep Bynum, Odomb and as a result get Gasol – who is younger, taller and just the kind of player that would play best along with Kobe.

Also, a special shout out to the Great One, KB24 for lighting a fire under all of their a$$es !

    See you in June !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DCLAKER

I have to give Shaq a lot of respect though,I mean he,Kobe and that bench(Rice,Horry,Fox,Harper, etc.)brought us three rings.Shaq didn’t look bad, honestly he looked better than I thought he would, even though a couple of weeks ago his hip was ‘bothering’ him to the point he couldn’t play.I think he knew Miami wasn’t going anywhere “this year” so why not go somewhere else where he could win another ‘SHIP, TO BAD IT WON’T HAPPEN NO TIME SOON(THIS YEAR OR NEXT,THEN IT’S OVER). Pau has changed this team,1st being DF coming back but even LO looks like a totally different player and SASHA,YES!I SAID SASHA(THE ROADRUNNER AKA 100 MILES’N’RUNNIN’)LOOKS LIKE A MAN ON A MISSION).What about that block on Diaw by KB(AND SHAQ),WHOA.Reaching the Finals doesn’t seem like a pipedream anymore. When Pau came this really tirned are team from a good team to a great team and to me last night the play of the game was Kobes block in the first quarter it really set the tone for the rest of th game. I am also proud of shaq he had nothing but great commments about kobe and I wish him luck but the suns going nowhere agansit the lakers. Shaq will be remebered as a laker no matter where he goes or what he does, as for right now shaq is the enemy. The lakers Right now i think are a GREAT team we have made that push to an elite team.

Kobe Bryant deserves to be the M.V.P. of this league, not only this year but the last 3 years running….Do you remember the Lakers team roster of 2006? The media does not want to acknowledge how he carried this lottery team on his back, to the playoffs, the last 2 years. They also tend to forget how the Lakers should have advanced in the 2006 playoffs, if not for the usual low basketball IQ decisions made down the stretch by certain players in this otherwise lottery team, as they had the Phoenix Suns dead in the water in 5 games of the 2006 playoffs. But due to the low IQ of the 2006 Lakers team roster, making terrible decisions and allowing the Suns to rise from the DEAD! What a difference having just smarter players let alone more talented make…If Lebron is voted the M.V.P. instead of Kobe this year, it will be because Lebron kisses up to the media like a poster bitch and Kobe does not! Kobe is nobody’s bitch, but Lebron is like where are the cameras and how cute do I look, I gotta look good! It will be a continued travesty if Lebron is voted M.V.P. instead of Kobe “The Man” Bryant this year.
