Maybe it should rain every day in Los Angeles! The second rainy day in as many game days and the Lakers blew out another eastern conference opponent. Tonight, it was a 16 point blowout against the Pacers. The difference in the game was the third quarter, which the Lakers opened up shooting 11-14 from the field and blowing the game open to a 16 point lead.

The Lakers bench would come in the fourth and blow the lead. Then our backcourt came to life as Kobe and Fish blew it back open. The Lakers hit 10-18 threes and once again had many assists, 28 as a team, led by Luke’s 7. Unfortunately, the Lakers still had 19 turnovers. Now, the bests of the day:

Top 3 Laker performers:

1)
Andrew Bynum had 21 points in the first half. He finished with 23, 13 boards, and 4 blocks. He shot 8-11 FGs and 7-9 FTs.

2) Lamar Odom had an efficient game tonight. 13 points and 13 boards. 5-7 FGs, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and only 1 turnover.

3) Dfish continued his lights out shooting. 6-13 FGs including clutch threes in the fourth. 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal to go along.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Since, I should have given Kwame the STD last game, I’ll give it to him tonight. He played awful once again. Forced up shots, including a free throw line contested shot? He also had 4 turnovers and played lazy defense.

Key play of the game: Lamar to Luke back to Lamar for an easy bucket. Pretty much sums up the game.

What to look for next game: Look for a game that should go down to the wire. Memphis is finally healthy and are playing well as a team. Game is Tuesday @ 5:00 PM on KCAL locally.

    great game by the lakers…

  • Osama(LIVE)

thats bull Fisher should be #2 and Kobe #3. and Javaris crittenton for–>STD!!!!!!. AND Kwame had a good game with 8 points and he was more aggresive and thats good…LAMER ODOM PLAYED HORRIBLE DEFENSE.AND DOESNT KNO HOW TO GUARD PEOPLE ON A SHOT SO HE JUST STANDS THEIR LIKE AN IDIOT AND PUTS HIS ARMS UP.

i like the way they played in the 3rd , kobe shot awful in the first half but later he shot better, bynum was a beast inside and fish just was amazing hitting 3 threes in a row..

good win , lakers are going to finish in first place in the pacific division if they continue to play like these… :-)

    GO LAKERS!!!!

good game for the starters. back to back sloppy games for the bench is starting to worry me. as for bynum great first half but why do they not feed the big man more. he had a huge first half then only takes 2 shots in the second half. less shots for kobe and more for bynum. also why the hell is kwame even getting playing time. put ronny at center and get rid of kwame and his ridiculous attitude and play.

  • maadtechlaker

good win, side note cleveland won because of lbj however he stated he felt like he was on the court by himself, all reports say lbj was just amazing if this was kobe all reports would say ya they won but kobe is continuing his selfish play

10 games over .500 baby yeah!

I think Ariza starting makes the Lakers stronger because he adds different elements to the starting lineup with his athletic ability, defense, and hustle. We have two great passers in Kobe and Odom to effectively run the triangle so theres no need to play Walton with the starters. Phil has to recognize that he needs to play Walton with the 2nd unit in order for them to be effective. Walton can help with the ball movement and he takes less pressure off of Farmar to try and create shots for everyone else. We don’t need the bench to average 30+ every night but there needs to be some sort of consistancy because lately they’ve been very undependable and unreliable. Kwame should only be used when we play against teams with big low post guys inside ala Yao Ming, Tim Duncan, and Dwight Howard. Other than that, he needs to sit his big clumsy azz on the bench and watch Turiaf play great hustling defense and learn a few offensive moves from Bynum and Turiaf. It’s so sad to have two useless 7 footers on the bench. Replace Walton for Ariza in the lineup. Once Radmanovic comes back he should help spread the floor for the 2nd unit a little better. The bench rotation should be as follows:

    PG – Farmar
SG – Vujacic or Crittenton doesn’t matter
    SF – Walton
    PF – Radmanovic
    C – Turiaf

Once we have this substitution going again, our bench should be more productive and balanced and hopefully not blow anymoe leads.

HE DID SCORED 8 POINTS THOUGH I’LL GOVE KWAME THAT

  • webJUNKEE

A win is a win is a win is a win!

Poor game from our bench, but our starters stepped up when they had to!

I would’ve given JCrit the STD tonight. He let his 19 points from the other night get to his head. Kwame actually managed to play better than I have seen in a while and he actually scored 8 points.

Let’s hope for a big win against the Grizzlies to give us some momentum against the Hornets.

    Go Lakers!!

  • Lakers

thats bs man Kwame did good he was one of the best players off the bench tonight he shot 3 – 5 from the feild and farmar shot 1 of 9 so give it to farmar not kwmame he was at least trying

ps: Kwame had the biggest impact off the bench tonight just look at his levno stat and compare it to everyone else except for cobi karl

  • Steve

The STD’s are never right. Kwame played great. He is a very underrated defender. I really don’t think he gets enough credit. He is the best screen and roll defender on the team. 10 times better than Shaq ever was. Tonight was the best he’s looked offensively all year. The STD tonight was definitely Farmar. He is the leader of that second unit, and they blew an 18 point lead.

  • Michael

The SMush of the Day was definetely your beloved javaris. He was awesome during preseason but he has sucked almost every game he’s played except for the game against the sixers. He doesnt know how to pass. Whats up with that? He had three lazy turnovers in the fourth quarter. Until he shapes up, you guys need to get off his nuts. He plays like its an And 1 mixtape everytime he steps onto the floor; that doesnt work in the NBA.

  • Tung

I agree with Michael. PHANTOM needs to get off of Javaris Crit’s nuts.

  • kobe-wan kenobi

LALALAND:less shots for kobe and more for bynum
    why u dont understand?
cant you see that bynum has to rely on an assist or offensive reb to score, he cannot creTES his own shots, especially when double teamed!!!
kobe is the only 1 in this team that can consistenly creates his own shots even double teamed, and he needs to shoot also when he is cold or double teamed cause he is going to take D pressure out of other players!!!! Wake up and stop sucking balls to every player except kobe

Kwame is not STD he played great D and played good offense too… stop hatin the soap-man

  • MIKE SANDERS

I cringe every time Kwame looks to score. I wanted to throw up in my mouth watching the bench defer to him as the go to guy. Play D and rebound that’s all we ask Kwame. As much as I love the kid, J-Critt was the STD in this game.

  • Rpoc

I felt like I was seeing a replay of the Cavs game when the bench let that lead slide into single digits in 6 minutes. The frak! And lmfao at Kwame’s post moves. It’s like a gamble. 50-50 he’ll draw a foul or bulldoze his guy down and get a charge. The ball has the chance of slipping out of his hands.

He should look at Bynum…. hell look at Kobe, Lamar posting up and notice you don’t need to go into light speed with post moves.

Ariza needs be in the first unit. Luke needs to be in the second. Fraking Phil, you said you would do that. If Farmar can’t score or get others involved the bench dies. Vlad needs to come back healed to give the bench an offensive spark again.

  • lalaland

kobe wan kenobi in the first half they passed inside to bynum and either he scored or passed it out to someone for an assist. the shots im talking about for kobe is the ones where he comes down the court does not pass once or even attempts to run the offense and just puts up the shot. if he was making them i say go ahead and keep shooting. but when you miss that many you might want think about passing the ball around when you see that bynum is dunking on everyone. one thing that would help this out is if ariza starts and he is a great slasher maybe just maybe kobe will think about one pass before he gets the ball back and takes the shot. and as for kobe creating his own shot yes he is great at it most of the time. but ball movement is the key in basketball and the more movement you get the easier the offense will run. but hey you are all up on kobes nuts so enjoy your view.

I have to agree with lalaland on this one. They need to feed Bynum the ball more. You can see he has more patience now and looks up to observe the floor. If he’s one on one, he’ll take the shot. If he’s double team (which more teams will start to do), he’ll look to find the open man. I think the Lakers should look for Bynum more to post up. His post up game is NOT that great, YET, but that is why they need to look for him more, so he can get used to posting up and getting used to getting knocked off balance. Once he establishes a post up game, he’s almost going to be unstoppable.

I think kobe-wan just doesn’t like the fact that Bynum is getting praised for his good play and is upset that the team is just not Kobe Bryant scoring 50+ points.

  • Michael_23
  • Michael_23

My last post (see above) was a joke for people thinking he’ll be in a Laker uniform again.

Anyways, if there were ever a rumor about trading Bynum of O’ Neal with no constraint for money, I would not go for the trade. Andrew is so much better now than Shaq and Andrew will get better and better. I wish Shaq can be healthy when the Lakers play the Heat so Andrew can take Shaq to school!!!

  • Michael_23

Andrew Bynum has emerged to become the 2nd best player in the team now. Whether or not LO accepts that or not, LO’s role in the team will lower slightly because of Andrew’s number’s in scoring and rebounding. Although can help in the assists category is yet to be seen.

… I don’t think we can expect too much from LO. But in my opinion, he is the 3rd option in this team. He just needs to improve his drive to the basket and improve his jumpshots to space out the floor to be more effective. If his jumpshot is as good as D. Fish he can be a much more valuable asset. (Farmer improved his jumpshot, so I believe he can if he wants.) However it’s LO we’re talking about so we’ll see, but I do expect him to keep driving to the basket.

Farmar could have been std due to him going 1/8 and that one shot was a layup. He didn’t lead the 2nd unit well.

Odom’s hands were up is a good defensive move.

Sometimes your reputation follows you so kwame could probably get it every day. Or maybe the person who selects STD has favorites that get excused from an std.

  • http://www.mr47.com mr47

Java gets a few skips on the STD because he is our golden child. I think kwame is a solid backup, but only for his defense. Kwame is offensively challenged and he doesn’t need to be the offensive go to guy. I noticed the bench was passing a tad too much, then would feed it inside. Once kwame would receive the ball, it was like he hogged it and shot the ball up afterward. His footwork is terrible, he has no touch, and he really doesn’t think…just spikes it towards the basket.

I wouldn’t have given him the STD just because he actually made a few of those shots (lucky bastid). However, Phil needs to tell him to only be aggressive if he has a shot at making a move. If he has to create a shot himself, dish my friend…dish.

  • ab4sure

[Comment ID #21504 Will Be Quoted Here]

Why Lakernation hates him??? LO has the talent to be an MVP, but plays nothing close to his physical talent. He can pass dribble shoot(when he has confidence) and rebound. We are just FRUSTRATED WITH HIM!!! I have learned to accept his contribution of averaging about a double double and his sometimes bizarre and stupid plays. He does have value, we just need to accept that Lamar is just Lamar. A good player who will never be as good as he is capable of.

  • LakersFirst

I too don’t understand all the hatred for LO. He averages a double double almost every night and the last 7 games or so he’s scored in double figures. You people forget that LO is basically filling the role of the power forward position (other than Turiaf, the Lakers do not have a true PF). All the simple minded Laker fans just want players that can score, however, they forget that one of the reasons why the Lakers are one of the top rebounding in the NBA is due to LO. LO has become a good rebounder. Some people go on to say that we should trade LO for JO. Yes, JO has nice outside shot but other than that LO is a better rebounder (for being 6’11, Jermaine O’Neal is crappy rebounder) and LO is more versatile than JO. LO can handle the ball, score, rebound and is not a bad defender. A note to those simple-minded Laker fans, there’s more to the game than just scoring.

No i do not hate bynum, i admit i was wrong wanted to trade him, and i am happy he is quickly becoming more and more dominant! So we will have a real chance to win something… since we all know we cant count on LOser…
the fact is that bynum cant creats his own shots yet, every time he tries movement when there is a good defender he looks a little funny and rarely is effective, now he is very effective out of an offensive rebound or when players find him with an assist…but you cant find bynum free all the time, in fact 2nd half they defended on him much better and we had more problems to find him with assists…
for sure i am not upset because bynum get praised!
but yes i am pissed cause kobe is not dropping 50…which are the most exciting moment of the whole season… i watch nba because of players like KOBE, MJ, Magic, Kidd, hakeem, pippen etc, flashy, talented dominant players…!!!!

To you and the guy before you talking about throwing up when kwame posts up, amen. It’s actually pretty funny because in his mind, he’s making solid post moves. Just like I mentioned below, he got lucky he made more than he missed. Stick to defense and rebounding buddy, your offense is like that of a goalie.

  • lakerz

did someone even mentioned that the key play of the game was actually that behind the back pass by kobe to fisher for three in the fourth quarter?
    just asking….

  • http://www.mr47.com mr47

I understand both sides of the lamar situation. The simple fact is that laker fans saw lamar come in as a “borderline all-star”. Everyone was excited…but it’s not a secret lamar hasn’t worked out as expected. Even analysts talk about how he is a good player but just hasn’t shined alongside kobe. Lamar is inconsistent and has a very high salary. He hasn’t really improved since he got here, which drive a lot of people crazy. I like LO, I really do, but he deserves 6-9 mil max. The guy will never be our second guy (bynum looks like the #2 right now) consistently and will always drive fans crazy.

I don’t want to go as far as say i want him traded, but i expected more from him. He can be a solid 3rd guy and a contributor, but he is not what everyone expected him to be.

  • http://getgarnett.com jonasjulienjoseph

Lamar is good though when you have a guy how could give you 15 points 15 rebounds and 4 assist a game as your third man you have to be lucky, Andrew is still my 3rd option beacouse he still learning, but man i really like out team like when we have that 14 man roster dressed up ready to play(trying to sya no injuries)were gonna be a threat, now verses memphis tomorrow our starter are gonna hve to bail us out, but when we play the hornets we have to to have the bench and starters bailing us out, but andrew is ballin

Come on man…do you really think I favor players aside from Sasha? I just felt Kwame last night played lazy D. Instead of moving his feet, he simply reached and slapped at the ball. He also still cant catch a ball and forces up bad shots. Critt didnt play well either, but I felt Kwame should have played better against the Pacers.

  • thomas thomas

bynum outplayed jermaine o’neal and made him look bad, he needs to be able to outplay other centers ond make them look bad such as; D-howard, Yao, KG, Duncan, Amare, Kaman, Camby, Chandler, Gasol, Bosh, etc. Shaq was able to do that and they won titles, now we need to get bynum to do that, so he has to work on his, post play more.

  • lakerboi

Lamar is our 2nd best player, we don’t trade him. He is just like Shawn Marion type of player…. How many players can go out and get 15 points/ 15 rebonds on any given night? He is also a great passer and drives to the basket very sweet.

I agree if Bynum continues to develope, he would jump to the 2nd best player. And to say Lamar is our third best player, is saying we have a DEEP team….GO LAKERS.

I hope the Lakers can beat Memphis by a good 20 points tomorrow, but i got to admit im looking foward to seeing Miller and Gasol.I wish the Lakers had like a James Jones or Miller who can shoot the three at a higher %.Actualy i dont know what rank Miller has on his 3′s but i think Vladimir is just not cutting it and any other 3 point threat would be better than him.Miller also plays good defense it’s no mistake he was on the all American defensive team in the summer.I wish Mitch could pull off another steal and get him or Gasol from Memphis but i really doubt that would ever happen. If we could have one more solid starter in the roster then we can start talking about a posible championship, but until we dump all our trash (Vlady Mihm Kwame Sasha even though i like him) then we just wont aford to get that extra player that will bring us to the next level.Yes i said it the Lakers are yet to make a move that will bring them up to par with the elite teams in the league.Anyway i still love my Lakers and think that next season will be the one where they will make a strong comeback if we can get rid of some of these lames. We have Kwame and Sasha of the books so thats a positive start.I look for a JO if he oppts out or Artest if Mitch can pull off that trade. There will also be other free agents out there that will be willing to come here if the Lakers can at least go deeper into the playoff’s and show that they are not just a first-rounder and out.And i trully beleive that the Lakers are going to go deeper into them this year.
And mark my words! the Lakers will bounce Phoneix in the second round this year and i will be loving every moment of it ohhhh yeaaahhh.

getting rid of Kwame Sasha LO Vlady Mihm Turriaf will be more than enough cap space read my entire comment and you will see that the only person i failed to mention was Turriaf and i would gladly get rid of Walton to make space for JO Artest or others.(Yesterday)

I hope the Lakers can beat Memphis by a good 20 points tomorrow, but i got to admit im looking foward to seeing Miller and Gasol.I wish the Lakers had like a James Jones or Miller who can shoot the three at a higher %.Actualy i dont know what rank Miller has on his 3’s but i think Vladimir is just not cutting it and any other 3 point threat would be better than him.Miller also plays good defense it’s no mistake he was on the all American defensive team in the summer.I wish Mitch could pull off another steal and get him or Gasol from Memphis but i really doubt that would ever happen.
And mark my words! the Lakers will bounce Phoneix in the second round this year and i will be loving every moment of it ohhhh yeaaahhh.

    daboss,
i also forgot to tell you that Buss needs to be willing to spend some money and pay lux-tax it’s not like he cant afford it…

  • daboss1848

milo, buss has said he will pay luxury tax for players worth the tax. (In fact the KG talks began b/c buss told taylor he would extend kg.) Keep in mind, though, u cant sign players for anything, other than vets min, mle, or lle, when team is at or above cap.

i got to look further into this mle or lle i dont quite uderstand how it works do u mind helping me with that and briefly explain it to me???i would apreciate it…

As an example, if a team is at 50 mil and the cap is set at 60 mil, then that team would have 10 mil to sign another team’s FA with.

On the other hand, if a team is at 60 mil or more and the cap is set at 60 mil, then that team would have 0 to sign another team’s FA with. That team would have to rely on a sign and trade or an exception. Two most commonly used exceptions are:

MLE – approximately 5 mil (depending on avg players salary)
    LLE – approximately 1.5 mil
Minimum salary – depending on player’s NBA experience

The exceptions cannot be combined with a team’s under the cap money, but the exceptions can be split among more than one player. The above is a basic illustration. There are a tone mor exceptions and rules (especially signing your own players to extensions) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap

Most teams are in salary cap hell (like NY) b/c they trade expiring contracts for longer term contracts which pile up and overlap. Other teams are above the salary cap due to the larry bird rule(signing your own FA player beyond the cap).
