The Lakers improve to 3-1 since the Gasol trade with todays win at Miami, 104-94. It didn’t seem like the Lakers played amazing today, but they did what they needed to in order to come out with a win. Seemingly every time the Lakers extended their lead to double figures, Miami answered back with a mini-run.

In the end, Kobe led the Lakers final run. Probably the best thing about the night for the Lakers was that Pau only played 34 minutes, Fish 26 minutes, and Vlad Rad only 18 minutes. The bench came through today and stepped up. The Lakers finished slightly below their season average at 46% FGs, but hit 79% of their free throws and had 9 steals as a team. Now, the bests of the night…

kobemia.jpgTop 3 Laker performers:

1) Lamar continues to shine in the post-Gasol trade era. 15 points on 6-11 FGs, 18 rebounds, and 6 assists.

2) Kobe showed us again today why he is the MVP. Not only does he score 33 points on 15 shots, but he also held Wade to 19 on 7-17 and forced 9 turnovers (yes, nine) from Wade.

3) While Pau played solid all night, I’m going to give it to Sasha today (plus Pau will get in next game I’m pretty certain). Sasha helped the Lakers open the game up early with his shooting. He finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Vlad Rad was pretty non-existent today. 3-9 shooting, 1 board, and a turnover. He needs to finish off those great passes from Pau and LO!

Key play of the game: Kobe’s dunk in transition.

What to look for next game: Should be an easy W for the Lakers. Key word—should. Hopefully the Lakers finish this trip strong. Lakers must control the boards. Game is Monday @ 4:00 PM (KCAL Delayed).

i think Ronny should be the STD, Ronny is a great player but he just didnt do anything for us today

  • Thomas

Good win but we almost gave it away in the final couple of minutes but Kobe put us over the top and we beat Miami by double-digits and we played well as a team except in the last couple of minutes when Miami pressed us but we prevailed and won. Go Lakers and beat Chartollete(sp?)

  • LA fan in Manila

You know, i was expecting a win with a greater margin but a win is a win. it still feels good. Thought Kobe did a great job on DWade.

ronny gave us 6 boards 2 steals and a couple of assists in only 13 minutes, that doesn’t an STD. vlad rad did ok to. i wouldn’t give it to anyone today.

i just want to know when will Ariza be back in uniform playing again?

  • gugy

    Lakers are playing good ball.

Scary to know Bynum and Ariza are coming back and make us even stronger.

Magic was polite about Shaq on TV. I bet he is thinking what the Suns did will benefit the Lakers big time. I can’t wait to see the rust diesel play with the Suns.

Wade manned up and didn’t want Kobe to get a dunk and give momentum to the lakers. Kobe respected him for it. The play was a tribute to both players.

  • LakersOnFire

glad this turned out to be a good road trip. the next two should be wins as well.

  • ab4sure

You must have put up that Wade vid ten times on the shoutbox. Give it a rest.

  • MILO

If Denver manages to score Artest it will ultimately turn them from a defense preeching team to a defense executing team. When you add a defense minded player like Artest it tends to spread.Look at what KG did for Boston his defensive presence automaticly spread to the rest of the Celts. If this trade goes down it will just make it a more tough and interesting conference than what it already is.I HOPE THE LAKERS CAN STEEL HIM FROM SAC SOMEHOW

  • Kobe08-09

good win for us, lmar can shoot lol.

  • lakerschamps08

yea good win..but damnnn ab4sure i can say ur DWADE fan…a tribute to both players im sure kobe does not want to go for a dunk and get crushed up in the air..

kobe would have done the same thing. that is why kobe patted him on the head.

We got a good win. I’m a little scared though about Shaq with the Suns. At first I thought it wouldn’t work, but people keep saying Lakers from 80s with Kareem worked and West and Wilt. I’m at a los, anyone what yall think?

  • http://JHLaker JHLaker

Still not a fan of Lamar but it is time for me to give the man some sort of credit. It looks like ever sense Gasol has been here Lamar has a care-free attitude it’s like the pressure is off of him to be #2 and he is actually performing the way us laker fans want him to perform CONSTENT. Keep it up Lamar we don’t need 20 points from you just 10-15pts with 10reb and good D.. Keep it up

  • LA_ALL_DAYak

play of the game was kobe’s defense all over d-wade at the end of the third. Amazing intesity from kobe to force the travel by wade.

  • killo

I was a little worried when the heat made their runs but fortunately we came on top. Marion did pretty good and did well with wade. They are better off without shaq. The suns have a huge obstacle to overcome….shaq. They should change their names from the suns to the eclipse cause shaq will cause them to lose their shine

  • mr47

These post game reports are good, but I feel they’re missing a few things that should be standard. There is not reason as to why the score shouldn’t be shown EVERY game, not just this one. I also think that in the what to look for next game, the opposing team’s name should always be listed.

Odom has been looking good lately. I always felt he would start to shine once the pressure was taken away from him. He was shining while Bynum was hot and now doing well with Gasol on the team. Semi-sloppy game, but a W is a W.

  • Lakers4Life

Yeah Lamar will be consistent from now on since he is not option #2. Option 3 is his natural setting. If the Lakers continue this flow of offence and strong defense, there is not team on this planet that can beat them. That’s just my opinion!!! Lakers Party!!!

We can’t think about Ring-winning now, we’ve to wait, like PJ said. Sure, this team has proven itself to become a contending team that ‘could’ make the West Finals, and I don’t blame you for that! And sure, making the NBA Finals is, for me, a 60%-100%! I say that because the Lakers can beat the Spurs, the Jazz, the Hornets (well, not 100% on that, but they have a good chance), the Rockets (guys, they’re on a run), and many (if not all) of the Western Conference contenders, and especially the Suns (Shaq, to me, doesn’t make a difference)! The only problem is the championship chance. The Lakers don’t have a good chance (I’m not 100% sure of this, but it’s probably true) of beating the Celtics at all, but the Pistons or Magic or Cavs (you never know about Mr. Steroids AKA LeBron James), the Lakers can beat them, I’m sure about that, and I’m not trying to be all optimistic, just partly!

  • Phant0M

I dont see anything that u said in regards to odom on the comments here..

    Callin me dumb?

    Check urself son.

  • Banks

you ronny is affected with the trade, so that can be an excuse for his decline in prductivity. But what is Luke Walton’s excuse… he has continually disappointed me, and everytime he gets the ball i pray he doesnt turn it over. I CANT WAIT until bynum and ariza comes back, bynum is suppose to come back in the middle of march and ariza at the end of march. CAN’T wait till MARCH/APRIL

  • JCBiglessworth

  • lakers_own

hahaha i know STD is only for laker player, but that play by williams was the most Smush play ALIVE…5 on 1 and he goes for the 3!!!!! hahaha who does that??? well i guess its good for us, but i just thought that was hilarious… :D

  • iLakers

This game was good. It wasn’t great (against the weakest team in the L) but cmon were nearing the home stretch of a 9 game road trip. We should have achieved our season avg in points but we hit a snag at the end of the fourth with some poor passes. Otherwise, we overcame and got the W, and kept them under 100.

I thought Luke played better than he has, but yeah he still not where he should be. I remember last year he was tearing it up in the beginning of the season before he came down with injuries…hasn’t been the same since, but i keep hope. I mean if Phil thought Luke was playing bad then he wouldnt have kept him in the fourth…right? And were talking about the Zen Master here.

And you gotta give it up to Jordan, everytime he comes in the game for DFish he makes an incredible impact. That dude has sick shot with a knack for scoring in the paint. Unbelievable bench player…does anyone know if he’s up for sixth man?

And Kobe…lets not forget about God’s Son (“there is a God”…haha). That man is a beast, and Fake Wade knows it. I thought that foul was stupid by FWade…i mean i know he was trying to deny him the momentum but it was stupid and dangerous. Anyone who plays ball knows that hacking someone in midair is the most bonehead move you can make. It puts you and the other player at high risk for injury. Whatev…KB put the chains on him and made him *cough cough* TRAVEL…hahaha…crazy!

Big ups to The Matrix as well, he played a hell of a game against us…thx God he no longer plays for the Suns.

Lets get a solid win tomorrow, we got to stick to the game plan!!

  • hibachi

man! what a good win the celtics burned the spurs without KG!!! best basketball ever.. oh? wait my bad!! you guys were talking about the lakers and the heat right?! hahaha… man! the lakers and the heat should just apply for expansion in the NDL or the wnba change the la sparks…bwahahah!, cmon! lakers beat some elite team next time… not lke the celtics they are 16-0 against the west.. mavs spurs etc.. and without KG! or try beating the hawks next time…hahahha, oppss wait the celts are 2-0 against the lakers man! those short shorts are hilarious…and a perfect fit for your fruity laker players… gasol should put one of those for the playoffs just to be sure… he and kobe are always on a first round exit..ha!

try reaching for that rainbow los angeles…

hey Lakers Nation, we got some “intruders” here..
Hibachi, why dont u put that funny comment on Mars..we dont understand what u are saying..And please c’mon..the spurs are so-so depleted now, and they are too-old..And wait, our team has not faced the BOObs-ton Cel-Dix yet with our latest roster update..Maybe Lamar is enough for ur Paul “Pierce his A$$”..and KG?
Just w8 for the Finals or next season (because cel-dix aint gonna make it through the Finals..the Pistons will burn their dix or perhaps charlotte..haha!!!Watch and Learn tomorrow how the Lakers will kick their A$$es the LakeShow way..

  • T.A.

hey fellas i am heading to charlotte bobcats arena tonight!!!

    4 rows behind laker bench!!!

I will let you guys know what i see

  • Shaq786

Wade got worked by kobe… i was very impressed with kobe’s defense… especially the isolation play where wade traveled…

  • T-Dub

I’m not a Lamar fan but he is playing well and I like the idea of that tall front line when Bynum gets back….however, they can’t afford to pay Lamar 14mil per. Unless they get him to agree to an extension after next year at around 7-8mil per, he has to be moved this off-season or even before the trade deadline if someone else wants him that bad. The Lakers (Lamar= 14mil), (Vlad= 5mil), (Luke= 4.5mil), (Ariza= 3.5mil) tied up at the SF spot. Thats $27 mil. Somethings got to give!

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #25620 Will Be Quoted Here]

Wait a minute, didn’t the Cel-dicks lose to the Wizards twice!!! Oh and didnt’ the Lakers walk into the Wizards gym and literally kick the crap out of them!! Come one Cel-dicks, you haven’t won a title for 20 years and you aren’t winning one this year.

This is the first of Garnett’s many future injuries coming and come playoff time, Ray Allen’s ankles will give out on him.

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #25628 Will Be Quoted Here]

The Lakers will wait to see how LO does the rest of the year before determining whether they will move him or not.

The Lakers are committing to $14M next year regardless. Even if they trade Odom, they would have to trade him for a player (or players) who make at least within 20% of that $14M.

Also, don’t forget that Odom can play multiple positions (he can the 4, the 3, the 2 and even the 1) so that flexibility adds to his value.

  • pjt

Odom will figure out his new role with the team now, and settle in nicely…He is a great 3rd or 4th option, and he get’s the rebounds…

Dwayne Wade gotta be a genius, did y’all see when asked LO about joining them at the 4 next year,in other words EVEN DW SEES THE VALUE IN LO AND THINK A LOT US IN LAKERNATION NEED TO ALSO(LARRY BIRD SAW IT).

Good team win fellas. Lets see… Webber was suppose to elevate the Warrios… not happening. Damon Stoudamire was suppose to make an impact for the Spurs… not happening. The Matrix is supposed to elevate the Heat… not happening. Shaq is suppose to elevate the Suns…LMAO!!! I cant wait until we play them… GO LAKERS!!!

P.S. Is it legal for Pat Riley to publicly recruit one of our players? Am I the only one that saw Riley kissing Odoms azz before the game.

  • T-Dub

Lakersfirst…they way Odom is fitting in now with Gasol, we’re gonna be hard-pressed to find SF thats playing as good as him other than Lebron. I would think Championships are worth the luxury Tax.

Now that Pau is in LA,LO won’t be going anywhere but what will happen is in the off season everywhere Free Agent will want to come here, though I think we’ll get Maggette.Plus THE ONLY TRADE YOU CAN DO FOR LO IS S.MARION,PERIOD!!!

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #25647 Will Be Quoted Here]

I think you may be misunderstand what I am saying.

I’m not saying that LO isn’t playing well with Gasol (he’s playing much better). I think the Lakers should keep him.

What I am saying is that when the Lakers agreed to trade for Gasol, they in essence agreed to pay the luxury tax. Next year, their roster equates to about $75M, so they are already over the cap (and that is even before they resign Turiaf).

Even if the trade Odom in the offseason, like you said they would have to do, that still wouldn’t lower the Lakers’ total salary because they would have to trade LO for at last 20% of his $14.5M he is due next year.

In all honesty, the Lakers don’t have to do anything because they can let him walk after next season (or resign him to a reduced contract like you suggested) which, in either event, would lower the Lakers total salary.
