The Lakers need to stop playing down to their competition. Another game against an average eastern conference lead — another lead blown — but a Laker victory.

Every Laker starter scored double figures as part of a 108 point scoring effort, but once again the defense wasn’t strong as only 10 turnovers were forced as the Lakers gave up 105 points to a team without a center.

The Lakers played a sloppy game tonight with 17 turnovers. Without their 17 offensive rebounds and a little help from Quinn at the end, the Lakers don’t win this game. Either way, a win is a win and the Lakers are 30-6 before heading to Texas. You can really see how this team misses Lamar and Farmar.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Bynum hit the game winner with his tip in, and had 24 points on 8-13 shooting.

2) Vlad Rad finally didn’t look pathetic out there. 18 points with 4-7 three point shots. He started off with poor defense on Marion, but did better in the end.

3) Sasha continues to take bad shots, but put them in tonight as part of his 10 points.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Ariza didn’t look good tonight. 1-4 shooting and 3 turnovers. He is human!

Play of the Game: Bynum’s tip in.

What to Look for Next Game: Two banged up teams go at it. Artest and McGrady have been hurt, so we will see what happens on Tuesday.

Ticket Info: Next home game is Friday vs. Orlando. E-Mal me at Steve@AveryTickets.com or call 213-221-7681 and mention TLN for tickets.

Go Lakers!

    Farmar, not Famar XD

I got to stop reading these. Derek doesn’t get in Top 3? How? Also, Vlade shot well but he kept leaving wide open 3pt shooters for no apparent reasons. He still has long ways to go. Did you not see the poor passes Vlade was making or do people just remember the 3s he make? Statistically, he only had 3 TOs but that could have been 6 or 7 TOs. He got lucky a number of times.

In summary, the problem to the game was the 17 turnovers vs. 10 turnovers by Heat.

    lol @ famar!

    at least its not farmer..:P

  • pancho

I’ll be glad when all three return, I think it’s good though for guys like powell to get out and play some.

  • jason

i agree with what nick lachey said above about vlad..he just wanders around the court on defense like hes lookin for somethin that isnt there while his man whos usually a shooter camps and waits for the ball for a wide open 3..and fisher left quinn open for no reason..luckily he missed…what was fisher doin near the paint i have no idea…hopefully this is a sign that bynums finally gettin it again..he looks energized lately..keep winnin lakers :)

Unless I’m blind, I don’t see a final score in this report?

  • thr aantoine

did you see when cook made the three to cut it down to 1.. you could read phils lips saying “vlade.. how did that happen?” guy gives up 10-14 points a game on his mistakes

  • Nabil

yeah, and it’s the second game in a row he’s done that right at the end. up by three with time winding down, and he is guarding a guy at the three point line. in both cases, there was no screen, no cut, nothing. his guy just stood there and waited for Vlad to run the other way. what a tard.

  • ICE CREAM MAN

I give the smush of the day to Kobe. He looked intimidated out there. He had a turn over in the last minute, and was a step behind Wade all night. He was the smush of the day.

The deadline for All Star votes is counting down…make sure to vote for Kobe, Pau, and Andrew. Gasol & Bynum especially still need your votes. Log on to vote at NBA.com

    P.S. Vlad still sucks…

  • there07

I think Phil is sick for putting Vlad in Heat’s last possesion. Can’t he see that the guy can’t defend?…the game against Indiana, he left his guy & voom..a 3 that tied the game….& last night, whew, unbelievable, Wade just faked a pass to other players on the court & Vlade turned around & leave his guy again, 3 point swak..I think Vlade is not all there. If I’m Mitch, i’d trade him for peanuts…his offense is on & off, & his defense sucks. He’s a liability.

vlad-suck hit some much needed shots last night, so let’s give credit where credit is due!

now let’s get on with the criticisms! wtf! what the fcuk was he thinking turning around and leaving cook open in the corner for the 3? whatever’s going on behind him has nothin to do with him, that’s someone else’s responsibility! he just needed to keep his man from taking the open 3!

and even if someone snuck in for a 2, so what? we needed miami to NOT hit the 3! with them getting a 2, they’d still be down 2 and it would put a lot less pressure on the free throw shooter on our team to hit both because we’d have a 2 point lead and going to 4 if both were made. even if it’s only 1 then, we’d still be up by 3. instead, this bonehead leaves his man open, allowing him to hit the 3 and being only down by 1!

i think that phil now needs to include vlad-suck in his commentary about players playing without “thinking”, “no heads”. maybe no player from that region of the world plays with a brain! abso-fuckin-lutely ridiculous!

PJ is starting to get on my last nerve!

PJ really needs to step up and coach this team. This isn’t a dynasty or a well oiled machine that can run on its own. There too many young players that need to be coached.

PJ also needs to work on his rotation. Kobe needs to sit out the last two minutes of the third and the first two minutes of the fourth – and that’s it. He can’t come in with seven minutes left! What is this guy thinking?

  • Al

Hey Phil…feel free to wake up and coach this team anytime now…

30-6 (best record in the NBA) and you think the Lakers need help???!!! WTF!!!

  • LakersFirst

I think this game shows one thing, if Gasol is not producing throughout the game, then the Lakers are going to have close games.

You people can say what you will about Radman, Luke, Sasha, LO, but the fact of the matter is, when Gasol isn’t producing throughout the game, the opposing team puts up a fight. In the games where Gasol doesn’t show up until the end, those games are close. When Gasol is consistent through the game, scoring and grabbing rebounds, notice the Lakers have an easier time winning.

Totally agree with you on this. Some how Wade just own Kobe. He looked scare and careless, also kissing Wade’s ass the whole game. After the cut on his eye, he then hugged him at the end of game. I never see Worthy hug MJ, both got a title at NC.
    This game STD = Kobe

  • anso

I just cannot figure out how Vlad could turn his head on Cook when Phil’s only directive must have been to guard the three-point line. holy balls what a DUNCE!

  • sketch

[Comment ID #58320 Will Be Quoted Here]

that’s like saying if vlad-suck, sasha, luke, and LO were producing, then we’d be blowing teams out! of course that’s the case! the fact is gasol is the only other really reliable guy on the team! no one else has a consistent game besides him and kobe.

bynum needs to continue to play like last night! vlad, luke, sasha, and LO also needs to contribute in order for the lakes to win. kobe can’t keep doing it night in and night out. even he has off nights. if kobe has off nights, don’t you think that gasol will too?

we can sit here and gab about the same damn things over and over again…the bottom line is that they need to focus on defense and stay after practice and work on their shots and their games!

Some how on this one Kobe waited to be offensive way too long. Was it him trying to get his teamates involved against a team that is very beatable without this strategy or was it him trying not to look too nervous but messed his game all up?
