A great start for the second half of the season. The best part of tonight’s 29 point rout of the Hawks was that no starter played more than 34 minutes so they could rest up for tomorrow night’s match-up against Shaq and company. The Lakers got it done both offensively and defensively tonight. They shot 51% from the field, and 92% from the line (22-24).

The most amazing stat was the Lakers 16 steals (13 in the first half alone!). The Lakers also had 13 offensive boards, and dished out 22 assists to their 12 turnovers. They forced 23 turnovers from the Hawks who were held to only 42% giving Lakers fans in attendance free tacos! All five Laker starters scored in double figures, led by Kobe and Pau with 23 each. I can get used to that!

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker performers:

1) As good as Pau was, Kobe did it on both ends tonight. 23 points on 50% shooting, perfect from the stripe, 5 boards, 3 assists, only 1 turnover, and five steals!

2) You know you are playing with Kobe when you score 23 points on 7-11 shooting and 9-10 free-throws and still don’t make number 1. Pau also finished with 6 boards, 2 assists, a steal, and a block.

3) Odom played great, but finishes at number three because of his turnovers. Odom had 17 points on 7-9 shooting and 15 boards. Unfortunately all his hard work came with 5 of the Lakers 12 total turnovers.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): D.J. Mbenga was the only Laker who failed to score. He took three shots and looked kind of out of it. He also seemed to try to block a loose ball out of bounds (anyone else catch that one?).

Key play of the game: Kobe’s around the back pass to Gasol for the reverse lay in.

What to look for next game: Who knows what to look for. I don’t think anyone on this planet knows what the Suns will look like with Shaq. Look for the Lakers to run a lot and tire out the big fella. Game is Wednesday @ 7:30 PM (ESPN, KCAL).

  • iLakers

Maybe someone should pull a prank on Luke and tell him he’s gonna be traded for Kwame…hahaha. Maybe that will ring his bell and make him start playing like he cares.

  • Jack Nicholas

Great game… Kobe looked good! Farmar can fly!

  • Phant0M

    GO LA.

  • Shakobe22

I think the key play should have been COBY’S dunk haha,
did anyone even know that he could dunk, let alone throw one down like that?

  • STEVE

Hawks are an awful road team.

  • Jack

i am telling u ppls, it’s the free throws. everytimes we make shots from the charity stripe, we win. eheh]]

aniways, sweet revenge. Bibby should be happy that he now only faces the Lakers 2 times a year;)

Lets make is 3 in a row blowout guys against the desert cactus.

  • n8

Mbenga tried to get all crazy and block a shot that wasn’t even a shot… yeah, that was the funniest thing ever.

  • MackCombs

    Woohoo Lakers!

Now we prepare for war with Pheonix.

Luke had a good game tonight. 6 points 3-6 shooting, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds off the bench isn’t bad. the only thing thats down with luke this year is his shooting, his other numbers are down this year because he is not starting and is averaging 9 fewer minutes this year. he’ll be alright.

SHAQ IS A BIG BABY HUEY!!! OH, HE’LL GET TIRED TOMORROW. HE’S LUCKY BIG BYNUM WILL NOT BE PLAYING. I REALLY THINK SHAQ IS A PUNK NOT BECAUSE HE’S WITH PHX OR REGARDLESS OF WERE EVER HIS FAT A$$ WOULD OF LANDED (EVEN IF IT WOULD OF HAVE BEEN W/THE LAKERS AGAIN) HE LEFT WADE DOWN BY LEAVING HIM WITH THE HEAT AND THE WORST RECORD OF THE NBA. THIS IS FOR ALL LAKERS HATERS…AND YOU ALL SAID KOBE WAS SELFISH…NOW LOOK AT BIG BABY HUEY THINKING ABOUT HE’S FAT A$$ AND GETTING OUT OF MIAMI BECAUSE “THEY” OR SHOULD IT BE “HE” WAS LOOSING AND WITH A LOOSING TEAM. ALL OF A SUDDEN HE GOES TO PHX AND IS TALKING ABOUT CHAMPIONSHIPS AND DON’T GET HIM MAD BECAUSE THAT ONLY GETS HIM TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS..MAN, I WISH SOMEBODY WOULD OF SLAP HIM ON THE BACK OF THE NECK (MAYBE WADE) AND SAID, “FOOL, DO THAT AT MIAMI AND STOP ACTING LIKE YOU’RE INJURED BIG BABY”!!!TALK ABOUT SELFISH! HE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ONE!!! SHAQ IS REALLY SELFISH AND THEN HE DARES TO TRASH BILL WALTON. EVERYTHING BILL SAID WAS RIGHT!!! xxxxxxGO LAKERS #1xxxxxxxxxx

We will blow the Suns out tomorrow and send Shaq back into pretend injured reserves…lol, GO LAKERS

  • Sopi

i dont think shaq will do any good to suns, but nor he will make suns a bad team. Suns will remain in the top spot in the west, and fail to move on in the playoff….after 2 or 3 years, sunset will be seen~

The Suns will fall in Phoenix!!! HA HA HA

  • Keep Odom

Ill tell you whats wrong with Luke. It isn’t a contract year. Isn’t that his M.O.? We should of kept Mo Evans and traded Luke’s sorry behind.

Orlando was looking for a shooting guard, which is what Evans plays, not a small forward which is what Luke Walton is. Orlando already had too many small forwards, which is why Ariza wasn’t playing there and why he was traded to the Lakers.

  • ab4sure

all coaches will tell you that bball is played inside out and when you have a big man like Gasol and Bynum you open up the floor for others. It’s good to see kobe and the laker big men feeding of each other

  • MILO

    Kobe injured! where??? ha ha
