TLN’s Post-Game Report: Lakers vs. Grizzlies

lalmem.jpg

Another easy W for this Laker team. They are now 9-2 on the season against under .500 teams. This was a blowout from the tip-off. The Lakers continued their outstanding shooting with 53% from the field and even better from behind the arc. Again, the Lakers dished out 26 assists as a team and FINALLY only had 14 turnovers. That is what they should be averaging.

The Lakers also remained undefeated when their entire starting lineup scores in double figures. The 51 points from the Lakers backcourt tonight was just too much for Memphis to handle. Memphis’s starting backcourt of Conley and Gay each went 5-15 from the field. It was just a smooth game for the Lakers with great defensive plays all night as they had 13 steals. Now, the bests of the day:

Top 3 Laker performers:

1) Derek Fisher shot lights out tonight with him mom in the arena. 10-11 FGs including 5-5 from three point land on his way to 26 points. Great game Fish!

2) While Lamar couldn’t make a lay-up tonight, he did everything else. He grabbed 15 boards and dished out 6 assists and played good D on Gasol all night.

3) Many other Lakers played well, but Ariza came off the bench and had a huge impact on defense. His 3 steals and a block were huge for the Lakers tonight.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): I didn’t really feel like the Lakers had an STD today. No one played that bad. Maybe Javaris who shot 0-2? I could always give it to Cook for old times sake…I’ll let you guys pick tonight.

Key play of the game: Luke’s over the head pass to Fish for his 5th and final three point basket.

What to look for next game: I really don’t know. The Lakers are playing amazing! But the Hornets are good and beat us at Staples already. If we can hold CP3 to under 7 assists, Lakers win. Game is Wednesday @ 5:00 PM on KCAL locally.

how about Java guarding CP? what do you think guys?

  • http://bustedquad.com/forum Caleb

Please explain why Critt would have ANY success against Paul. Javaris is an inexpierienced rook who picks up fouls easily and has trouble guarding average PG’s.

It will be very tough on the second night of a back to back vs. NO. Thankfully Andrew played only 28 minutes but why would Phil keep Kobe out there for 40 minutes if he wasnt even playing great? Why waste his energy?

Anything can happen though i agree Java is way far to CP’s success.

The lakers needs to find a way to limit CP or Kobe needs to work on his shooting.

  • DingleBerry

Awesome win lakers. steve i would have put kobe in the top 3 tho. The reason fish went 10-11 was that he was wide open on every shot. kb demands the double team and he gives the rest of the lakers easy looks and he should get more respect from the lakernation!!!

  • selam57

this game was nice .fish was one fire .Hope he remains hot against N.O too .so this was easy win .what i want see tommorow tho .lakers need to play solid defence .cuz i remember last time paul has 21 assist and peja jad 10 3 pointers we cant let that happen .and iwant see how bynum does against chandeler too that would be fan to wacth.go lakers!!!

  • Thomas

This looked like a good win. I was unable to watch it because I was playing with my school and had to do something with my church. But Fish played incredibly well and I look for Kobe to play well against the Hornets because they beat us handily at Staples. Keep CP3 under 9+ assists and you will win. If Lamar could duplicate the defence he played on Pau Gasol to Peja that would help as well as making CP3 work for all his points.

Kobe needs to kick this little slump out if we plan on winning. We need Kobe going 45-50% from the field to win. I think we ned to use Bynum in the middle and open the floor for our shooters, when they try to double team him.

Ariza needs to start; He needs to guard CP3, I know Walton brings no “D”. If Kobe, Bynum and Lamar have a good game we win. If Kobe and Bynum have a tough game we loose, that easy.

  • BringDFishBack

First off, Kobe either needs to spend a lot more time working on his shooting or needs to shoot less. I don’t get so many things this team does, especially him. It’s simple basketball, when someone is on fire, give them the ball. D. Fish was 10-11 yet Kobe wouldn’t give him the ball, EVER. Same with Farmar, at one point in the 4th he hit a couple shots in a row, but oh no someone is stealing Kobe’s spotlight. Someone needs to say something to Kobe and the entire team about this, it’s a problem at times and in a close game it could cost them a win.

Second, this next game isn’t about CP3 at all. And btw however brought up Critt on CP3 you’re an idiot. What they have to do is stop Peja and Mo Pete from getting open looks outside. If they can do that they limit one of the major skills in CP3′s game, drive and kick. They also need to keep a body on David West. They need SOLID play out of the PGs on defense so that when CP3 drives they don’t need other players to help and step in, because that is what killed them. CP3 was getting into the open lane, people where collapsing on him, and he was kicking to wide open teammates.

Kobe was definitely the STD tonight. Bynum wa a close second. Kobe was playing like he had no doubt in his mind that the Lakers would win. He played agressive on the defensive end, but his shot selection and decision making on the offensive end was just horrific. Which is why the Lakers won the first quarter by 16, and ended up winning the game by 16. If he plays like that in NAleans…..we will lose. And we can’t have that Billy Ho!

KWAME IS NOT DA STD, HE SCORED 8 POINTS ON 4 FROM 5 HAD 4 REBOUNDS IN 19 MINUTES AND THANK GOD 1 TURNOVER, MAN SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO COMPLIMATE PUR PLAYER WHEN DEY DO GOOD NOT LOOK LAT DERE PAST MISTAKES

  • mihaithemiraculous

complimate? are you trying to say compliment? or complicate? kwame sucks we need to use his contract to get a decent player to either start at PF, or back up bynum

The Reason why Kobe keeps shooting even though he is having a bad shooting night is because he is Kobe. He doesn’t think he is going to miss the next shot he thinks its goin in. Kobes one of the best shooters in the league all shooters go through times where they can’t hit a thing, but the only way to get out of that is to keep shooting. Kobe’s got that kind of confidence. He’s not a Jason Kidd or a CP he’s a different style of player and hes not going to give up on his shot.

COMPLIMENT AND KWAME DOSENT ACUTALLY SUCK BEACOUSE NO PLAYER IN DA NBA SUCKS, NOW I WOULD TRADE HIM BUT HE HAD A GOOD GAME

  • Scarface

Kobe does NOT need to be shooting 45%+ for Lakers too win. The rest of the Laker team are maturing as they are understanding that they do not always need Kobe to score points. They understand that it is a team play and the whole team has to contribute. Each and every player on our team understands their roles and all want to win.

The way PJ coaches I wouldn’t be surprised if after fish guards him he gives farmar, ariza, and maybe let critt at him for a couple of plays. You never know with PJ.

The Kobe situation is like the elephant in the room. No one usually mentions it but i see it too. Wins can sometimes mask the problem, but when a few losses happen it will resurface.

As far as critt on Paul, i think the guy was just suggesting it and asking for other peoples opinion on it. Not that he thought critt could lock down Paul.

  • MILO

[Comment ID #21655 Will Be Quoted Here]

i disagree Kobe can easily shoot jump shots instead he wants to get fancy and shoot turn around fade-aways he is turning the ball over and he needs to realize that he is not going to get fouls called each and ecery time when the fu-ck is he going to learn???Dont get me wrong i lkie him but he needs to stop trying to be a show-boat………….

I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE WHOLE SPOT LIGHT THING AS MUCH AS I HATE TO ADMIT IT KOBE IS SOMETIMES IMMATURE HIMSELF AND FORCES UP TOO MANY STUPID SHOTS…

hey i dont think so, yeah, i want the lakers to trade kwame but tonight he didnt had an excellent game but it was a decent game for him.

and really , all of the lakers played well and critt was 0 for 2…

KWAME, Smush of the Day??? The guy had 8 points on 4 for 5 shooting, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 19 minutes. The guy isn’t a great player but give the guy some credit, he played well tonight.

I think the main issue with Kwame is his lack of confidence, not only in his basketball abilities but in his body. I think he is afraid to be very aggressive because of the ankle injury he sustained. However, with each passing game, Kwame does look more confident, which is why he is trying some more offensive moves. I just hope Kwame stays healthy enough so he can give Bynum a few minutes to rest.

  • Jimmy

Not only is CP an issue, they also have Tyson Chandler who can guard Bynum and is a menace on the board.

  • MILO

[Comment ID #21683 Will Be Quoted Here]

LakersFirst, thats a really good assesment of what’s happening with Kwame because i noticed that there was a couple of times where he should have rolled to the basket for an easy lob pass from Jordan but he would hesitate i think it has to do with his low freethrow shooting as well. And btw let’s let bygones be bygones deal???

  • LEADERFISH

It is hard to determine who deserves that smush award. No one played really terrible or as Barkley says “terble”. You could even give it to KB because he missed so many shots. The other lakers shot great today, I would hope kobe would have gotten a double double with 10 assists be he only got 6.

  • e-bucher

wow the lakers win and people still complain…stop nitpicking and enjoy the victory…kb didn’t shot the ball well and his shot selection was questionable…but to say he needs to work on his shot is ludacris…is like saying nash needs to work on his passing…kb had an off night big deal…if anything he was probably forcing some shots off to get out of his shooting slump for tonights game…the game was out of reach…overall great game and i like what i am starting to see out of our team defense…our players are rotating a lot better…

  • foxxy

[Comment ID #21652 Will Be Quoted Here]YEAH…CRITT HASNT PLAED ENOUGH TO MATCH UP AGAINST CP3…NOT YET!!!!

  • foxxy

[Comment ID #21679 Will Be Quoted Here]KOBE IS KOBE…HIS SHOTS WILL COME BACK TO HIM…IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING IMMATURE!!!! HE DESERVES TO HAVE SOME OFF NIGHTS…THANK GOD OTHER PLAYERS ARE STEPPING UP NOW…A BIG DIFFERENCE FROM LAST YEAR WHEN HE WOULD PASS THE BALL OUT TO THEM AND THEY WOULD THROW IT RIGHT BACK…THIS TEAM IS MUCH BETTER THIS YEAR….AND HEY,LEAVE KB24 ALONE…HE’LL COME THRU!!!!

  • LouisKim

seriously…why are we complaining and about the kobe thing…first let me say..he got 5 steals , put Gay and Miller in foul trouble…and please shut up with the spotlight crap..what are you talking about?..he’s a shooting guard..they score..sometimes the selections are bad…you wanna see bad?..look at gilbert arenas…because everyone knows who we want to have the ball when the game is on the line from any spot of the court..dont diss on the kobester..and lastly… Lamar was the most efficient player tonight..he led the lakers on the + / – category

  • foxxy

[Comment ID #21701 Will Be Quoted Here]RIGHT-ON…HE IS A SHOOTING GAURD…THAT SPOTLIGHT STUFF IS OLD…MAYBE 2-3 YEARS AGO…BUT NOT NOW…KB24 HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM BEING A ONE MAN SHOW!!!!

  • DCLAKER

PLEASE STOP WITH THE KOBE STD CRAP. I mean the guy is still banged up from the knees to his shooting hand.Injuries come and go during the course of the season,be patient.WE ARE STILL WINNING,RIGHT?!?

  • RWHITE

Kobe is being Kobe. People expect so much from him. He’ll get out of his shooting slump. If he can shoot 45-50%, I believe the Lakers can win it all.

  • http://mydeek.orgnigga PhantoM

Its not really kobe who’s gonna determine if we become an elite team,
its up for the other players; bynum, odom, and the bench..

Cuz we all know what kobes capable of, and when he scores 50+ ITS STill hard to come with a win

  • MILO

Im shoked at the fact that Kobe didn’t try not one turn aruond fade aways i almost bet money on him jaking up shots like that.STD OF THE DAY SHOULD NOT GO TO ANY OFF THE PLAYERS CAUSE THEY ALL PLAYED GOOD IM MY EYES, BUT IT SHOULD GO TO PHIL FOR NOT CALLING A TIME OUT WHEN TRVOR GOT POKED IN THE EYE THAT IS A VERY DANGEROUS INJURY AND I THINK THAT PHIL SHOULD HAVE CALLED IT WHAT A FU-CK-EN DICK

  • MILO

How about Bynum 17points 7 rebounds or more and 4 asists this shows alot of maturity and court awarenessssss…GREAT JOB BYNUM
