wowIt’s been awhile since the Lakers controlled the game from the beginning and blew a team out. Memphis was the victim tonight as they were handed their 57th loss of the season.

Bynum continued to look impressive in his third game back with 18 points.

No Laker played more than 32 minutes and the Lakers forced 17 turnovers.

It was a very balanced Laker attack as no Laker had more than 18, and many different Lakers continued, even Luke.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1)  Kobe had one of his most efficient games in awhile.  16 points on 7-9 shooting, 7 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals and only 1 turnover.

2)  Ariza did a bet of everything again with 12 points and 3 steals.

3)  Bynum did what we needed.  18 points on 6-10 shooting with 6-6 from the stripe.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Fisher again was useless.  2-9.

What to Look for Next Game:  A possible first round preview vs. Utah at home. Final game of the season!

Shannon Brown! Looks like Mitch found another Trevor. God is a Laker fan.

  • Mr. Laker

You need to stop saying the word “useless” very uneducated low class comment to make about Derek

  • K20

    Shannon Brown is toooo Sikk!!
forget farmars mins give them to Shannon

Who knows if Lakers resign Brown, he may start next season seeing that Fisher is getting older.

I call it like I see it. Fish hasn’t hit a clutch shot all year. He needs to retire.

  • Hattoriisan

Steve Avery stop playin! A clutch moment this year for Fish is when he hit a dagger to go up 3-1 against the Hornets in the season series.

HE FORCED OVERTIME WITH HIS 3 AGAINST NEW ORLEANS!

  • Dboy

I agree…you guys use the word useless too much….

  • mvpsug

lets keep it 100, fish is struggling, but also is probably not playing full gear to prepare for whats to come. kobe isnt either.

fisher will be there for us in the playoffs, like he ALWAYS has been.

    .4 seconds.

  • 2Anush4

    is it playoffs yet?

  • Salty

Poor shooting aside, Phil is mainly playing Brown more and Fish less these past few games in order to rest him up for the playoffs. That, and Brown needs some prep up since he will be 2nd in line for covering Deron Williams in the playoffs, since we all know Farmar can’t.

Fish is having a poor SECOND half of the season, shooting-wise, but his leadership and counter-balance to Kobe (as a fellow 3 time champ on those Shaq-ckled teams) in the lockerroom is invaluable right now. Plus, his D is ALWAYS there, even if he always has been about a 1/2 slower than Paul, Parker, and Nash.

His foot is screwed up and he’s too “old school” to admit it: he’s coming up on his “j” and his set shot out of kilter because he is favoring the bad foot. And remember what a mess the PG position was when he was with Golden State and Utah.

Fish will NEVER be useless: he’ll retire before that days comes (maybe this summer, if the Lakers put up that 15th banner), so be careful what you wish for.

Wrong. Have you been watching the games, or reading the box scores? Hasn’t hit a clutch shot all year?!?!? You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s not even close to accurate.

  • r. tomjanovich

we need to resign shannon brown. he deserves to be our future point guard, not to mention he’s the missing guard defender we’ve been looking for.
i love jordan farmar, i’ve always been a fan. he was on my radar since his rookie year but really, he’s looking anemic with his game.

on another note, boston or cleveland? :p

  • kevin

IF PHIL RETIRES I HOPE RUDY TOMJANOVICH COMES BACK

  • dcb2069

“he deserves to be our future point guard”

uh, let’s be careful about anointing him that–he’s been with us half a season and has only began to play more minutes recently. not hating on him, i like him a lot, but contributing 15-20 minutes a game vs 35-30 minutes a game is a big big difference.

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

You’re yet to show full support to our team, and you’ve got 1 game left. The STD needs to be suspended one game if we beat Utah. Just ONE game.

  • jason

wow..i didnt realize why everyone dogs on the person that writes these reports until i saw the “fisther hasnt hit a clutch shot all year” comment..clutch shots dont have to just come in the last couple minutes either..wow that is a pitiful comment.

Utah to close the season..just in case we play em in the first round i doubt phil will show any strategy per say..get some guys some rest after the first half and lets get to the playoffs healthy and rested..its almost the time of year we’ve all been waiting for..wooohoooo i’m jacked to the max!!!

  • r. tomjanovich

i wonder how jordan’s reacting to all the praises for shannon brown… hahaha.

  • lainok

fisher is fighting thru a slump…he’s not useless. that dude has done so much for the orginization over the years, you as a fan should at least give him the respect he deserves. I do think that during the game shannon should be given more time in his spot, but fish bleeds purple and gold, and has for 12 years. ( i count the years in goldenstate and utah as a bad dream). critisizing him is one thing, but no reason to rip on the guy.

Not gonna happen: last time Rudy had the job, it wrecked his health. He’s a great guy, a basketball guru, but running the squad just puts him under too much pressure.

  • farmabrick

[Comment ID #67806 Will Be Quoted Here]

Agreed: Brown definitely has the look of our #2: a big PG, quick, good D, happy not to be a “Starbury” type player. That’s bad news for Jordan.

But the leap from #2 PG to #1 is enormous at this point. Let’s see how Shannon plays next year with a summer and fall camp of working on his shot and learning the Triangle.

  • gugy

Derek Fisher deserves the utmost respect from the REAL Lakers fans. Anybody saying otherwise is a bandwagon fan.

Sure he is going through a slump lately, but his experience and demeanor is that turned this team around in the last couple of years. Or do you guys want Smush back?

I am pretty sure he will be back focused and playing better at the playoffs.
    Go Lakers!

Thats very odd for some one to call derek useless.. He’s a great veteran player and you know he’s going to show up in the post season… By the way, did anyone happen to record lakers live post-game show? Im trying to find it because I was there with my 5 month old son and rick fox gave him a shot out on the air. I have to get a copy of this for my kid. Please if you have it recorded contact me. I will pay for your time. thanks

About the only drama left is who the Lakers first round opponent will be. Dallas? Utah? New Orleans? Does it really matter who the Lakers face? Read more here: http://steveodesignedge.wordpress.com/

  • ilikebasketball

a dude came into my work sunday, after that humiliating loss against the cavs and was yelling at the top of his lungs how that game didn’t matter, and they had no garnett or powe( OR POWE. HAHAHA!) and screaming how he isn’t worried at all.

it’s funny how the louder your voice the more weak and pathetic you come off seeming.

anyway. with the roll the cavs have been on I’m wondering whether to worry, or not. It’s hard to understand why the games we played against them were soooo easy.
And I’m not counting boston out, but they look like they could easily be out by 2nd round.

hardly a laker fan if you don’t watch the games. luke has been contributing really well, doing exactly what he is there to do recently. and sasha’s shot is coming back nicely.

  • Anthony

I’m getting all giddy about the playoffs starting. I think teams are in for a hell of a time if they think we’re going to be the same team they’ve played throughout the season.

Everyone that was on this team last season still knows the pain of falling two games short of a title. Watch the Lakers put it into another gear come the playoffs. Utah or Dallas better watch their asses.

  • WifelovesLuke

For all you Luke haters, SUCK IT! The last few games with Drew back are proving what I’ve said all season. Luke contributes more than a sad jump shot. The assists and ball movement in the triangle that he is responsible for is exactly what Tex Winter envisioned when he designed the Triangle offense. The way the ball moves when Luke is on the floor is so much fun to watch.

Shannon Brown should definitely move to #2 guard. We are gonna need his size, speed and strength against D Williams of Utah and eventually Mo Williams of Cavs.

    Lakers all the way, baby!
