bffAnother solid road win for this Laker team. The Lakers defense tonight was solid all around with good rotations especially in the paint.

It’s funny, I was watching the PAC 10 tournament on my other TV at the same time, both my USC Trojans and Lakers had big leads, both evaporated, and won the game with free-throw shooting.

Kobe’s three at the end was such a bad attempt, but it was a great result. I wish he would drive to the hoop more with the game on the line, but I guess that’s why I’m here writing and not coaching.

All five Lakers starters hit double figures tonight with Kobe and Pau leading the way with 23. The Lakers shot 52% and 80% from, the stripe, with only 11 tuirnovers — a very clean game. Unfortunately, they also gave up 52% field goals, but held the Spurs to only 33 boards for the entire game and forced 16 turnovers.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Kobe had 23 points, 6 assists, and a dagger three.

2) Pau’s 23 and good defense on Duncan tonight were huge for the Lakers.

3) Lamar may not have had all the numbers tonight, but he was active and played good defense tonight.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Fisher needs to play better defense and take smarter shots.

Play of the Game: Kobe’s last three.

What to Look for Next Game: A big game in Los Angeles — probable first round matchup. Dallas comes into town and the Lakers should be fresh.

Ticket Info: Next home game is Sunday vs. Dallas. Prices are high, but we have a special for Tuesday’s game vs. Philadelphia. E-Mail me at or call 213-221-7681 and mention TLN for tickets.

Go Lakers!

i think jordan shouldve been smuch….

  • Nick Lachey USA

Indeed. Farmar is inconsistent on defense and offense.

  • YellowPurpleFever

Good post-game. Kobe’s last few shots were horible. Drive to the basket or mix it up! PJ should call better plays or advice Kobe to go to the Hole. Next time if we lead by 10 3 min left just continue the pressures and run the plays. Kobe needs to call MJ for his close out of the game in hostile environment cause I know MJ has Kobe’s ear. Famar looks LOST.

Where are those Boston Suckdic f*gs that said we were gonna lose this game. No f’n WAY!! Another victory for the Lakers!!!

  • Amol

I think STD was Sasha. Fish hit some timely shots.

  • Amol

Of course, this night would be better if the Suns can beat the Cavs so that we can maintain a advantage in the standings over Cleveland. But I have to admit, I’m more interested in the Syracuse-UConn game … 6th overtime?!

  • The Cookie Monster

Thanks for the Live blog, TLN, i’ll be sure to tune in in the future, whenever there is a game on. Love the articles, always entertaining. I wouldn’t mind a few drops of knowledge on who you guys think the MVP is so far?

usc is lame – ucla is gonna take them down

I agree, Kobe def needs to drive to the hoop more in crunch time. He is one of the best dribble drivers in the game and his mid air body control is insanely good and he will get to the charity stripe more in the 4th if he charges the rim.

I agree Jordan really sucked big time.
Several turnovers lead to our lead disappearing.

  • Smush Walton

Will someone please tell our one-armmed wonder, Lamar, NO OUTSIDE SHOTS!!! He still hasn’t learned that his outside shot is horrible. ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

  • the ape

lamar’s offensive boards were huge as were ariza’s steals and overall hustle.

i think std should be sasha or farmar. fisher had a good first half and a couple of good shots in the 2nd half. those two guys didn’t have anything. even luke had a couple of good drives and good assist plays

  • Makaveli3

Even though lamar wasnt doing good on the offense side he did his job at least by defending and grabing boards for us.

  • Doc Eddie Davis

Lakers beat another injury ridden team. What’s the big deal. They will fall to the Spurs in the playoffs. CELTICS will take it again. Once Garnett comes back they will be fine.

  • jaymeva

Impressive win. Kobe should be smarter and go to the hole, and many have said. Lamar is riding back to his boards and his pure aggressiveness. I think it was a good call to start off with Ariza last night. Kept good pressure on D in the 1st quarter. Looking forward to next couple of home games.

Another excuse, “injury ridden” team (they were without Manu, that’s it). The Lakers are without Bynum, so it cancels out, Suckdic fan. Face it, you HATE when the Lakers win, but you better get used to it, when Bynum comes back, the Lakers will be even deadlier.

Oh and what’s the excuse for the Lakers beating Houston. The Lakers were without Bynum and Odom, and STILL won.

Suckdic fan – are you ready for the Lakers 4th title this decade. Better be, it’ll be here in June.

  • Doc Eddie Davis

Haha. You Laker fans are pathetic. The Celtics own the Lakers. Boston fans, be ready for another parade this summer.

Can someone please tell luke to stop dreaming of being an outside threat and freaking be on the post. I don’t believe he has a “high basketball i.q”. I mean he gets so close to the basket and then airballs it to the other side. Fluke…use the board. Why is he the only white boy that can’t shoot? Why are we stuck with him?

  • purplegoldvein

This is off topic but does anyone else in here think john hollinger is the biggest laker hater on espn? check out the daily dime, he tries to argue that Lebron and D-Wade are the only two legitimate mvp candidates. im not big on awards, but i didnt see him writing articles like that when kobe was by himself taking the lakers to the playoffs in a much tougher western conference. D-Wade is one of my favorite players by far, and i love what hes doing, but the fact that kobe has helped the lakers maintain the best record in the league with bynum out speaks volumes for what hes done this year.i still feel that the way the season pans out kobe will recieve his second straight mvp, considering the whole body of work. one thing that gets overlooked too is the lakers heavy road schedule in the back end of the season. Even still with the extra road games as of late, the lakers are still holding the best record in the league.

petition john hollinger for being a biased, laker hating biaotch.

Uh, except for their two head-to-head games this season that the Celtics lost and the Lakers won. I also checked the records and the Lakers have a few games on the Celtics. Got another point?

    wut, i lold

i also think luke should learn to post-up or shoot. the only thing he does decent is pass the rock. bad contract for a bad player, uhg

Luke is pathetic on the floor. His outside shot is terrible, his layups are shakey, he’s slow, and can’t jump.

What a waste to have signed him to a 6 year deal!

The last two games big leads were quickly lost when Luke, Farmar and The “Machine” (more like the “Contraption”) were on the floor.

You know what’s pathetic being a Boston Suckdic fan. HAHA for 22 years, they were nothing in the NBA, even chanting MVP MVP MVP for a Laker. Boston Suckdic fans are truly sad and pathetic (no Laker fan would EVER do that).

  • Ethdude

Pretty weak giving Fish the “smush” tag or w/e that dumb thing is. Played 31 min. while covering T. Parker, 10 points and had two big threes.

  • Ethdude

ps: Luke Walton thinks you suck to.

  • Lker Roger

    lakers have this title won.
We have the west scared drews not even ready yet and the west is scared of kobe as always.
mitch Has been talking to Alonzo Morning to come out of retirement kg is scared of Zo and perkins also.
zo we need you now .
mitch look to unload farmar who cant even make layups.
Luke has no game he dosent even want to be a starter.
Mo benga what is this going doing in the nba ?

  • Dracul

The Luke debate will probably go on as long as he’s here, which will probably be a long time. I think most people are irritated that he has such a long term contract when the Lakers could have used his contract to see if they can upgrade the SF position, if only his contract was shorter, which I think is the ‘issue’. The same debate goes for Odom, who at 11-14 million per year is clearly not in that range in terms of consistency/productivity. If his salary was in the 8 million dollar range, then the extra 3-6 million can be spent on hiring other potentially contributing players.

Luke is not the most athletic guy, this is true. His shooting isn’t very reliable, and he suffers from White Guy Syndrome – ‘Canbarelydunkitis’.

However, he doesn’t take defended shots, he does post up when he has the advantage over the defender, and he can pass. Plus he shoots the 3 just about as well as Space Cadet Glitch did.

He is currently making 4.4 million a year, and is averaging almost 5ppg.

Compare that to another white guy with a limited range of skills – Sasha Vujajic – He’s a 3 point shooter, a decent passer, and a spastic defender. He can also shoot the 2-point jumper.

On the flip side, he’s slow off the ground and every single time he goes into the paint for a layup he WILL get blocked, GUARASHEED. And he sometimes plays great D, but sometimes tends to foul too much away from the basket. Plus his 3 point shooting seems to wax and wane with the cycles of the moon or something.

He’s currently making 5million per year, but has only 2 more years on his contract, and averaging 5.6ppg. The fact that he can be used as a trade contract without a big obligation makes the Sasha deal much more reasonable in terms of the Luke/contract benefit ratio.

Now, when you have people like Luke who suggest that the team would fair better if he was in the 2nd unit, then you DO want someone like him on the team. Why? Because it’s about the LAKERS winning. So it wouldn’t matter if he Luke or even Kobe came and said “do whatever, even bench me, I just want to know that WE are going to win”.

Bynum is probably going to come off the bench if he returns on schedule. He should do well with Farmar, Sasha, Luke and Powell as a 10 man rotation. Maybe substitute Odom for Powell, but for some reason, Odom and Bynum together never had any floor synergy, as compared to Bynum and Farmar, who looked like was very effective.
