While the Spurs were on their A game tonight, the Lakers looked flat. Poor shooting, poor passing, poor defense… poor everything tonight.

The Lakers were 5 point underdogs, but I still felt like we were going to win this game. Staples Center was full of loud die-hard Lakers fans, only to make the journey to downtown to see the Lakers give a lackluster effort.

Aside from Kobe, no Laker scored more than 15 points. The Lakers had 13 assists with 13 turnovers — not a winning formula. The Lakers also blew it at the foul line with 8-17 shooting. It really was just a bad game… but I’m sure the Lakers will bounce back, so keep those Laker car flags up!

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers:

1) Kobe didn’t play amazing until it was too late. He finished with 30 points, but only 1 assist with his 4 turnovers.

2) Farmar has 10 points with 2 big threes. Sadly, that was the 2nd best tonight.

3) Vlad Rad had 9 points and 9 boards on 4-8 shooting.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Odom took awful shots and made some poor passes. Looked terrible tonight.

Play of the Game: Kobe’s 4 point play (if he made the FT).

What to Look for Next Game: Look for better shooting from the Lakers. I expect the Lakers to come out hot and try to blow it open early.

Game is Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.

I have a TLN special on Lakers tickets for games 5. Section 316 row 10. I’m selling some for only $160 each. Also have 2 left in sec 301 for $180 each. The Spurs really whipped us tonight. Ginobili came out on fire and they followed his lead. I didn’t expect anyting less from the defending champs than what they showed tonight. The Lakers have to put this one behind them, make some adjustments, and prepare for game 4.

  • http://thelakersnation.com kb24 4life

it was the worst game for the lakers in a while, i hope they`ll bounce back…

  • DingleBerry

Pathetic, other than Kobe no other laker had a pulse tonight. kobe would have had 10 assist if Pau and LO could make a uncontested 5 ft jumper. oh well luckily its a 7 game series….

  • Lakeshow31

Wow that was not very impressive. I didn’t expect to win, but only Kobe and farmar came to play. I dont understand wehre odom went. Lets go lakers in game 4!~!!

  • Odom the worst player

I just don’t know why the lakers play like this sometimes. It seems like they play around until they get behind, then they try and come back. Maybe next game.

  • 123KID

stuff happens! i give it up to the spurs for really coming to play today, but its all about going back to the drawing board and getting ready for game 4. i dont wanna say its a must win tuesday, but i think to still have the edge and to keep the spurs hopes down, we need to win tuesday and bring it back home.

LETS GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!! CHIN UP LAKERNATION!!!

  • gugy

    Let’s get the next game.
I was expecting to lose tonight. Man the Spurs are the defending champions. They are not going to be sweep. So they needed the victory tonight out of desperation.

We need to keep it cool and relax and play a good game. We can steal a game Tuesday. I am pretty sure the Lakers will play better ball then. Gasol needs to be assertive. LO will play better and Kobe is probably tick and will come out huge.

We have control of this, let’s just not freeze Tuesday an give the momentum back to SA.
    Go Lakers

    STDs…
    1. Sasha – Played absolutely terrible defense on Ginobili. Couldn’t stay in front of him. Then made stupid plays on defense. That one play where he switched onto Duncan out of no where, and then Duncan made the “tough” shot at the end of the shot clock. Not exactly tough to make that when the guy guarding you has no chance to block/alter your shot. What was Sasha doing, he just picked up Duncan (leaving Ginobili) out of no where, even though Pau was already guarding him. He also took some bad shots, and no matter what he thinks, he needs to figure out he is not a PG. He does not bring the ball up the floor unless there is press and whatever PG is in the game needs help.
    2. Pau – How can a center shoot 7 for 18? He barely ever leaves the paint to shoot and he misses 11 shots? Are you kidding me? And how about the defense? He just can’t do it. He can’t even slow down Duncan. Oh and the rebounds? Outrebounded 21-5 by Timmy. -16????
    3. Odom – As much as you all think he played absolutely terrible, he really didn’t. He had an off shooting night, sure. But he isn’t taking hooks and layups all day, he’s taking someone off the dribble and taking off balance shots. However, he unlike pretty much everyone else was actually playing some solid D. Also, he had 11 rebounds and nearly half of the team’s assists w/ 6. Finally, he was actually giving effort out there. He never stopped shooting, which is worse than shooting a lot and missing. He didn’t give up on D, he continued to help his teammates when they continually got beat, even if it meant leaving his guy open. Anyone remember that Bowen 3 from the corner, where he was wide open and Odom running at him? It might have seen like Odom left him open, but in actually a few other Lakers got mixed up on a switch, and Bowen was left open so Odom tried to get out there. I’m not saying he played good by any means, but he certainly played better than you guys are making it seem.
    4. PJ – How hard is it to realize someone cannot guard someone? Sasha CANNOT guard Ginobili. Why in the world would you leave him out there to get torched when you have a defensive specialist (who happens to be a quick SF) on the bench?

  • Shril

Wow.. Lamar was horrible at the Freethrow line.. Missed some easy lay ups.. pau chose to shoot jumpers and forced hook shots. They need to realize that they need to take it to the hoop and throw it down.. Fisher needs to take more shots.

For me, it seemed the big momentum shift, the moment that said “it’s not our night,” was in the 1st quarter. Pau was starting to heat up, and you could feel the momentum shifting to the Lakers. Then he drops in an And-1 on Duncan, giving Duncan his 2nd foul which would send Timmy to the bench for a good while. Then…it’s called a CHARGE?!?!?! That was totally wack.

  • http://deleted berks24

phil lose it again,he start d 4Q again with a bench.w/the spurs leading by 12.this is not utah.I’m sick of phil resting kobe on d start of d 4rth,comeon !and agen kobe did not attack on d third he keep on passing.and got only one ft attemp.I don’t believe bow could locked him down.come on kobe attacked them be that ghost on the riverwalk …..mvp….

  • PeanutButterSpread

Frustrating night for all, I’m sure, for Lakers fans and for the Lakers. Anyone noticing this trend of the Lakers having a hard time if a game is on Sundays?

Aside from this awful awful loss (I was so getting used to not seeing the Lakers lose by this much), the Lakers just have to adjust, come out aggressive in Game 4, play better defense and finish stronger at the rim. No lazy jumpers, no half-hearted performances and certainly, no dejection to this loss. It’s just one game. That’s all. The Lakers just need to win 2 more games. Hopefully Game 4 will have a more assertive Pau, a more decisive Lamar, a supernova Kobe, a recharged Machine that is Sasha, and a more precise Derek Fisher.

Despite the loss, I’m glad that Jordan’s found his rhythm and game. The Bench Mob needs to return in full form because when they were out there in the 2nd quarter with Lamar, that’s when things started going downhill… I’m hoping for a bounce back!

Actually, it was called for Traveling on Pau for that play. It was more a combination of Pau and Lamar not hitting their easy bunnies not making stops on the other end that put us out of our rhythm.

No worries…we are still ahead of where we were for this one. 1 step back to make 2 steps forward.

    LakersNation to Pau:

We need you to step up (atleast offensively) and give us something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WhloxVDY0c

  • pio2u

No need to panic, Spurs are the defending champions & are expected to put up a fight. The Lakers will bounce back with a vengance.

  • xtro

  • KOBEISKING

the good thing about today here is that no one went “TRADE ODOM” just cause of one game

  • domz

    ^^ LOL @ KOBEISKING

ANyway, I havent watched the game and that was sad to know that we lose. But anyway, WE, the LAKERS NATION shall chin up and get ready for game 4. Surely, this series will be tough for us. Hopefully, our offense and defense will show up greatly on game 4. We need that win so bad. I dont want to have a 2-2 series again especially against the spurs. We need to belive more and support harder for our beloved team.

    GOODLUCK LAKERS!!!
    BEAT SAN ANTONIO!!!

  • http://thelakersation.com/blog PauKobeBynumDynasty

STD- should be shared between Odom and Gasol…this was clearly one of his worst games as a laker. He missed most of his shots, showed no aggresion, and played barely any defense. His mid range jumper sucked. We need to run, the Spurs are 40 years old! (other than Parker).

But if we played like we played at home yesterday, then we should have won. We are gonna win one on the road here. If we win tomorrow, then the series will be done in 5 games, if not, then the series will be done in 6. WE ARE NOT GOING TO GAME 7.

  • LakersFirst

No energy, no aggression lost the game.

The Lakers seemed to have had that energy/aggression in the first quarter, but then Ginobili started hitting his shots, and he, and the rest of the Spurs, became more aggressive than the Lakers. After that, the Lakers just couldn’t match the Spurs’ intensity.

  • http://swishtheball.net sasha>stojakavic

this is what needs to happen

the spurs are a slow team, so put in a very quick lineup

    PG Farmar
    SG Sasha
    SF Kobe
    PF Ariza
    C Lamar

those 5 can totally outrun the spurs

  • http://swishtheball.net lakers best bench ever

[Comment ID #37044 Will Be Quoted Here]
alright, here is the plan, we should start those 5 on the bench, have our starting lineup be fish/luke/vlad/ronny/gasol then at about the 7 or 8 min mark we put those 5 in with young fresh legs. then totally outrun the old and tired spurs. then once we get a lead of 20 or so,we can go back to the regular rotation

  • http://swishtheball.net kopau+bench+defense=champons 2008-2012

another thing we can tae advantage of is length

    how about this lineup

    PG Lamar
    SG Vlad
    SF ROnny
    PF Pau
    C DJ

if we have those 5 play zon dfense, then with their length on defense, it shold be impossible to score in the paint

Ummm how about we just stick to the lineup that got us the #1 seed in the west, into the WCF, and a 2 game lead in the WCF? A few things though:
    1. Whoever said Pau needs to step up at least offensively, he doesn’t. He needs to step up defensively and at least alter some of Duncan’s shots. Unless they slow Duncan, it’s going to be tough to win.
    2. Whoever noticed no one crying for an Odom trade is actually understanding something. One or 2 bad games means nothing!
    3. Why is it that everyone who was crying for a Farmar trade or to sit him on the bench is praising him now? If you’re not gonna stick with them through the hard times, don’t act like you’ve always liked him when he plays better.
    4. Why does no one say anything about Sasha’s terrible game? He played terrible defense, being solely responsible for most of Ginobili’s points. And most of the time it wasn’t even a good move, it was just bad defense. He wouldn’t stay with him so everytime they passed to Ginobili, Sasha had to close out. Sometimes he had enough room to fire, others he didn’t. But the problem is Sasha closed out sideways, so it was easy to drive around him.
    5. Put Ariza in on Ginobili, PLEASE.

Lakers were hanging in there but couldnt finish in the end..i thought KOBE BRYANT did a great job..but the others didnt step up..FISHER, GASOL, ODOM need to step up…i thought GASOl did poorly..he was hesistated in his shots and was scared to take it in…
GASOl needs to gaurd duncan a lil bit good..caz DUNCAN is jus messin with GASOl

i think we should start TURIAF instead of RADMONOVICH and swith TURIAF to guard DUNCAN since hes big and had lots of energy

    KOBE guard PARKER
    FISHER guard BOWEN
    TURIAF guard DUNCAN
    GASOL guard OBERTO
    ODOM guard GINOBLI

    HERE’S SOME GOOD NEWS:

There was one bit of upbeat news for the Lakers on Sunday night.

Coach Phil Jackson, asked about the torn pinkie tendon in Kobe Bryant’s shooting hand that could still require offseason surgery, revealed that the team doesn’t think much about the injury any more.

“It is generally in pretty good shape right now,” Jackson said before L.A. absorbed a 103-84 loss in Game 3.

Bryant proved it by ranking as the Lakers’ only real offensive threat here, sinking 13 of 23 shots from the field to register 30 points … even though San Antonio seemingly had a fresh layer of defense waiting for Bryant every time he turned a corner.

  • kPoAbUe

i agree with the lineup change

  • Remy

i hope people are saying to put ariza on ginobli just to slow him down rite, not completely stop him. if ginobli makes shots like that off balance three with the shot clock going down, there is no point

phil also put in the bench in teh 4th quarter b/c the opposing team tends to let down and underestimate the bench

he was hoping that the bench could provide the sparks, but it was our offense that gave us problem

so don’t blame phil, he knows what he’s doing, he’s been in situation like this before, even worst

  • http://deleted Mr. Juan / Your Warlock

One of the Laker bigs should in disciplinary fashion, focus primarily on boxing out Duncan. This would limit his pension for gobbling up so many rebounds, which ultimately leads to the disparity in the number of shot attempts of the two teams. … Just as some one suggested earlier, I think inserting Turiaf in place of VladRad is a great idea and would make this happen. … But, on another note, as I’m sure most everyone would agree… What is up, with the MYSTERY, on Phil not using a cleared and obviously healthy and energetic Ariza, when the game is still in the balance? What excuse can it possibly be! Sure Phil has 9 rings and all that jazz, but he is human, and I for one, believe he has made many mistakes… Along with his sometimes strange choice of rotation or player selections, his glaring use or lack there of, in calling time out when the opposing team goes on a run… Unlike Pop or Doc or just about any other coach, he always seems to wait too long to stop that momentum.

Sorry the lack of kobe assists is becuase there was very little ball movement. Their were only 13 assists total for the team. Don’t always blame lack of assists on another persons shooting… I never hear ppl complain about J. Kidd having only a few assists because teammates missed too many shots… Kidd would just break down a defense and give them even better shots.
