anythingispossibleThe Lakers took care of business tonight just as they did in each other win this postseason. They created a large lead, let it slip away, but hung on for the first round series victory.

The Lakers shot 45%, 5% better than the Jazz, but turned the ball over 16 times. The Lakers had a good scoring attack tonight with Kobe’s 31, Lamar’s 26, Gasol’s 17 and Ariza’s 12.

No Utah player scored more than 16 points, but they didn’t give up until the end.

Now, the bests of the night…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Lamar played superb. 26 points, 15 boards, 4 assists and 3 blocks. He also help hold Boozer and Okur to 18 points combined on 5/17 shooting.

2) Kobe’s 31 points on 10-21 shooting were too much for Utah tonight.

3) Pau played solid all night. 17 points and 11 boards.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Sasha jacked up 10 shots and only made 2 of them. Also was part of the 4th quarter collapse.

  • Ihateturnovers

STD should be Bynum . You can’t blame it on foul trouble this time.

  • petey

    i hate sasha

  • http://www.gotdrunkandwroteablog.com grendel20

Bynum is getting too into himself.

  • roro

I love the way the jazz played especially not quitting; this is a good game for the lakers not to let up and play hard for 48 minutes. I don’t think Bynum match up well with the jazz and im not to worried about him. We have to be patient with him and i think the lakers know that. I believe that sasha was smush of the day especially since over handling the ball and making careless turnovers. As much as people say they don’t like the way Luke plays; I saw how important he is for the team. We do not need sasha being our ball handler; we need him to be our shooter. Also I think the Lakers need to play smarter and especially the second unit because the starters played well; its just the second unit didnt play smart down the stretch.

  • http://myspace.com MARRYMESASHA

LOL i think bynum should be STD

anyone at the game and saw the “Marry me sasha sign” haha

sasha looked at it and smiled

  • http://yahoo.com markco2

we expect our lakers to advance..

sasha keeps on jacking off shots that are somehow forced shots.. he needs to settle for mid range 2pt shots.. then if he got his stroke can go for 3’s.. i dont know but somehow “the machine” aint working properly as of late..

but as a fan.. let’s rock and roll LAKERS!!!! wooooooooot!!!

  • http://steveodesignedge.wordpress.com/ dEDGE

The Mamba clearly dealt Utah a fatal blow tonight. His 4-pointer over Kirilenko was ridiculous. Lamar was the key to the series. Utah had no answer for him and he picked apart the Jazz defense. Now let’s hope we can get Bynum back into the groove.

  • anonymous coward

i counted at least 5 sasha misses that were good, mostly uncontested looks including a reverse layup and a pull-up jumper near the basket. they just weren’t going down. bynum really needs to step it up though. he keeps fouling when he gets beat.

  • AllthewayLA

whats happening with our 4th quarter? wth!!! we always collapse. im sick of it. good thing we are able to hold on. if we are against a better team..i dont know. hope we improve on this. lets go LA. alltheway baby!

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

my name says it all psst!

  • luke and sasha and farmar has got to go!!! and im a laker fan!

odom was one of the weak link against the celdicks in the final last season but now hes proven hiself this season and toughen up a little and if the lakers are going to get a ring he better continue like this!

  • bryan

one question: where are all the odom haters at?

    “Odom the worst player”
    “187 on boston”

    who else was there?

  • zgum

Damn Lakers get a huge winning margin.. look at denver….

  • Lakeshow4life

    Wrong.. STD goes to bynum.

  • Blame it on Rihanna

Bynum needs to man. I’m tired of him complaining all the time. It’s times like this that make me question his contract. He feels like he is entitled to everything. Playoffs is where careers are made. If Bynum does not shape up, ship him out!!!

  • e-bucher

lo keep it up…ab stop forcing shots and let the game come to you…ab just focus on rebounding and defending…the offense will come…sasha keep on shooting and playing…your shot will come…ariza be ariza…kb pick the teams apart and play freaken d like we know you can…brown keep it up…and for the rest just play like there’s no tomorrow…one game at a time…

  • toolake2handle

Make sure you mark of number 13 on top of the page budd!!!!

  • Bynum got paid way to much

I bet Mitch sure would love to get Bynum’s extenions back. Could have resigned to a lot less money this summer. Live and learn mitch. You think he would have learned after over paying Luke which could have been had for 10-15 mil instead of 30 mil. Also sasha could have been had for about 10 not 15 mil. LIVE AND LEARN MITCH!!!!

Wow, there’s a really intelligent comment. How about this, retard. It’s all about match ups. Jazz went smaller and quicker so Bynum sat. Round 2, 3 and Finals will see bigs so Bynum will be a big part of our rotation. Think before you respond!

  • kobe8

Lamar Odom is the catalyst to the Lakers winning a Championship this season. If he dominates every night like he did against the Jazz, it will be a easy road to the Finals and winning it all.

  • r. tomjanovich

somebody go and read “the anti-hero”.

i’m slowly but surely getting tired of andrew bynum.
he hasn’t been playing well and he keeps pining for minutes.

i’ve noticed a trend lately. some players are attributing their lackluster play to an obvious lack of minutes. that excuse was well and good the first few times i heard/read it but after a while, you start to ask yourself that maybe just maybe the lack of minutes come because they haven’t been giving PJ any reason to bring them back in? i’m pretty sure PJ wouldn’t sit somebody for 20 minutes stretches if he was contributing and showing solid game…

let’s go bench mob! let’s take this all the way! come on now!!!

  • iamthetie

Stat sheets don’t say it all. Sasha was on the floor when the collapse happened but he shouldn’t get STD. Bynum’s inability to move his feet and stop the Jazz bench players was the reason why that team picked up any momentum. Did anyone else notice he jumped to block a shot on a one of the Utah guards when he was half a foot away? Not only did that get him a foul, but he could have blocked that shot with his wingspan alone. Ridiculous.

  • http://www.yahoo.com junior

i don’t know bynum feels physically, but he’s too big for letting a guy like milsaps do whatever he wants under he basket…sometimes bynum just stands and watches people get rebounds…maybe he’s too tall, he can’t jump…he should be a wall in the lakers’ defense…he will be a big factor in l.a winning the championship…he needs to bring it with him next series..

Let’s trade bynum for Dwight howard. Let’s start a rumor that D howard will not resign and we should throw in bynum, fluke and farmar for howard before he walks free.

    wishful thinking?

  • LakerFaninAtl

I’m tired of all these Laker “fans” on here complaining. You keep talking about Bynum but ya’ll sound just like him.

Support the team! If your a true fan. It’s going to be a long road to the chip.. so just chill. You can pick apart things about all the games, but as long as we get the ring no of it will matter. Adjustments will be made along the road.

    Let’s go Lakers!

  • LakerFaninAtl

    none* of it will matter

  • http://www.twitter.com/utcpla24 Margo

We are truly too hard on Bynum, which in turn has made him want to prove himself so bad. He wants to show that he deserved the contract, and all that. The man has truly only played 1 full season if you add the last two together, and he is 21yrs old, and every time he gets into his MANTRA mode, tragedy stikes! And both were to no fault of his own. The guy works out like crazy, and got serious about his craft, and yet has had to deal with some major injury scares! Now the matchup in Utah was truly not the best for him, I believe Phil made the right move in that series especially if the brace is causing him pain! The next two series is where he will get the chance to show himself. Bynum just needs to remember his points are BONUS on this team, but his Blocks and Rebounds are priceless! This next series will give Bynum a time to shine, and the team needs to get him going on purpose, because Drew is a good free throw shooter, descent anyway, and he has to learn how to play defense without fouling! So let’s give him a chance, this is his first TRUE TRIP TO THE PLAYOFFS, we know how Kobe responded in his, let’s just hope Drew has a BETTER showing in his, in this next series!lol

  • WifelovesLuke

Kevin Arnovitz from TrueHoop Network wrote “a healthy Walton offers Jackson a set of skills that would be indispensable in a second-round matchup with a certain defensive-minded team from Texas that can grind an opponent’s offense to a standstill. Walton’s ability to keep the ball moving may not have been missed Monday night, but the Lakers could use it as they move forward, something Portland is learning the hard way”

Wisdom from a Basketball guy and not some casual fan hating on the white guy with the ugly jump shot. True basketball people understand Lukes value.

  • skim.

every1 needs to stfu. who cares who the std is. we’re gonna win the championship regardless. im sick of retarded laker fans who think that we gotta get rid of some of our players. there is no team in the nba that stacks talent like we do so how the hell would we move our crappiest players to get better ones. whos gonna stack the lakers more than they already are. our bench only looks bad cuz its measured up to our immense talent. our team is fine. bynum had bad matchups plus that knee brace looks like its ridiculously uncomfortable. rockets cant keep up like the jazz did lakers in 4

  • T-Dub

You guys are to hard on Bynum. The Kid had another devastating Knee injury when he starting to dominate. No one was saying sh!t then. He missed half the season, now it’s the playoffs and everyone expects a 21yr old kid to pick up where he left off. Won’t happen. He’ll be 100% at the start of next season. They can still beat the Cavs with Bynum at 60%. The real problem is how do we get rid of Sasha the gay blade?? This guy is flat out terrible! Trade his ass if you find someone stupid enough to take him…..

it won’t be. odom worked really well against the jazz. the next series bynum or gasol will have to step up. each team brings something different. and the positive thing about the lakers is we seem to have each element we need to match up well against any team in the league.

i think kobe was on the floor for most of the collapse as well. to stop the bleeding, they brought in ariza and odom. kobe was already out there.
sasha needs a luke in there for passing, and so he doesn’t feel like he needs to find his own shot., because he can’t.

  • kobe-wan kenobi

after so much time LO played with us, there are still fans that keep thinking he is the best…
he is playing great right now, as he did many other times in his career
i am expecting real soon a stretch of games where he is gonna play like 4 points 4 reb…and look like bored in the middle of a cloud on the floor…
LO will not change, he is not young, that is how he is, INCONSISTENT
you guys are pathetic thinking he is going to play like this for the whole playoffs…i guess the fan blinding glasses work pretty good.
until LO plays like this for the rest of the playoffs, for once in his career nobody can call him a great player.
I cant wait to be wrong, believe me!

LO is way overpaid for what he brings night in and night out, he is getting 13mil a year, for that money u cant be so inconsistent, and giving such an inconsistent effort. You cant be the best player on the floor one day and the worst looking totally out of the game and without fighting the day after.
this has been LO during his whole career

LO is not worth more than 5/6 mil a year until he plays like a man every dan game

I just hate fan that have no objectivity

it’s okay to try to figure out what cylinders aren’t firing so our team can win the ring, but to say there are really crappy players on our team is absurd. like jon barry said ” I found the 2nd best team in the western conference! it’s the lakers bench”

  • BG

i was there, great game, free tacos close by lamar’s facial dunks

  • Lakerfan_InAtl

Thanks! Finally some rational Laker fans. Everyone just chill out. Have some faith in the team. If your a real Laker fan or just an basketball fan, you will know every player has a roll. I’m proud of Bynum and every player who wears Purple and Gold.

    that’s a lame argument.

    what are you a banker?

and odom himself said he is willing to take a paycut to stay a laker for life, and now he’s playing like it when we needed him to. so give him the props he deserves when he deserves it and stop being so stubborn about hating the players on the team for which you are supposedly rooting.

  • lilkobe24

yeah seriously … why do u keep blaming things on sasha? are you stupid or stupid ?

  • http://neoshocapital.com Farmabrick

If the Lakers play Houston in the next round, Andrew will start (to guard Yao) and he will get his chance to prove himself.

4-5 days of practice (assuming the Blazers take game 5), ice, and talks with Kareem (another misunderstood C) will get his mind right.

We’re pulling for you, ‘drew, so make us look good.

  • trademaster 2009

lets sign artest this summer, he is the last piece, we already have a long and athletic perimeter defender, we need a big strong perimeter defender

  • stanley

Lamar looks like he is evolving.

  • Anthony

I got there about 78 minutes from tip-off and Sasha was jacking up shots from all over the court. The guy was draining shot after shot after shot, but only went 2-10 during the game. Perhaps his problem is too much shooting beforehand?

  • sketch

YO PRICE, STFU! You friggin munchkin, just be happy that you even get a chance to play during garbage time and don’t you ever try to get into D-Fish’s face again! IDIOT!
