donteffwithusThe Lakers did it! They finally won back to back games and the result — THE 2009 NBA FINALS!

The Lakers just took this game over tonight. The first quarter started slow, but as the game went on, the Laker offense stepped up, and the defense was stifling.

The Lakers outshot Denver tonight 59% to only 43%. The Lakers really played great basketball on the road tonight. 27 assists on the night compared to only 14 from Denver.

Once again, it’s Friday night so I’ll keep it short so the celebrating the Lakers Western Conference Championship can get started early, but save a little for mid June.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Kobe again shows his MVP’ness. 35 points on 20 shots with 10 assists! Best performance of the series, easily.

2) Pau again played great! 20 points on 12 shots! 12 boards, 6 assits, 3 steals and a block.

3) Threeza did all the little things and plenty of big things. He had 17 points on 7-9 shooting with 3 threes! Lamar get’s some consideration as well!

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Farmar played bad defense and didn’t do anything offensively.

Play of the Night: Kobe’s three-pointer to end the first half.

What to Look for Next Game: Let’s see who we face first.

Ticket Info: NBA FINALS tickets are now on sale. We have select seats available for $300 each for home game 1, but only a few left that are not available online and only for TLN fans via email. E-Mail me at Steve@AveryTickets.com for info on how to get these tickets (2 ticket max).

Reminder: We will have 2009 Western Conference Championship tees tonight! Stay tune!

Go Lakers!

All the trolls out there, see you guys at the finals.

  • UKlaker

Great game tonight. I can’t fault them one bit. In my opinion every Laker did their bit and the tough road we had this year will help us in the finals.

  • Lakerfan_InAtl

Time to get the ring! I can taste it. 4 more!

  • koberei24

great win …bring on the magic

  • Touch ME

    Nostra

Take it easy we are all Laker fans here, I can tell you are a teen by your language. When the Lakers win I always say that the opponent will win to play reverse pyschology on myself. If I ever saw your co-ck ill use my saw machine to the extreme and I am not talking about Vujacic. Congrats on the nice prediction, I sure hope we play Orlando in the finals. Maybe the crystal ball is the key for Lamar Odom playing well because we will need it in the finals. It looks like the egg i was talkin about is rotton just like the Cavs.

I am so glad the Lake Show will be getting plenty of rest because they’ll need it.

  • ab4sure

Yes the doubters in this team are staying away. Warlock maybe now you won’t wimp out and bail on this team again. You continue to knock everyone but kobe and you realize this team is better than you thought. I hear Clippers season tickets are for sale now. I am sure you can have a nice seat there. Save a seat for T-Dub. You guys will make a happy couple. ;)

  • LakerLand_Nostradamus

    Touch Me,

    you are a troll man.

By the way I am not young, I wish I was, but you are a hater and a doubter. If you are really a Laker fan then you are a bandwagon fan that doubts our team when they need to have support and faith. We do not need this kind of fans around here.

  • Lakers_TheTruth

This game tonight is a response for all the haters and doubters and even the bandwagon fans that indeed called themselves Lakers fans. We just slapped their faces.

Lakers just kicked some Thuggets @ass!! PERIOD.

Proud of my team, Congrats to Kobe for his leadership and for the rest of the team stepping up to the challenge. Bring the finals baby.

  • Anthony

Final(ly) our Lakers come out like we know they can. Great great game. Kobe was amazing, Pau was as consistent as ever, Ariza came out big and help from Odom and Walton was much needed.

They’re two big guys (Anthony & Billups) did come out a bit weak, but we didn’t really let them get into it. Melo seemed to give up, but whatever he’s not on our team and I could really care less.

What’s with Bynum? I know he’s young, but he shows zero emotion and he looked half-pissed after we won. He needs to remember what’s on the front of that jersey.

Let’s GO DAMNIT! I’ve felt uneasy for an entire year. I’m almost back to relaxing. Lakers in 5!

  • PauLAsol

threeza is the dumbest nickname eva!!! sounds so awful and weird

  • Paul Garnett

Congrats Laker fans. Too bad the WCF trophy is the only trophy that you will get. It doesnt matter who comes out of the east. Lakers will choke in the finals again. Magic/Cavs in 6.

  • west213

guys when is the award ceremony gonna be when they give the trophy for defeating the West. or they gave it at the end of game 6? i left home with 3 min to go and i think i missed that ceremony.

  • L.A. All The Way

Lakers were SPECTACULAR. Not only did we win, but we did it with CLASS. Congrats to our Lakers! I knew we were going to win but I thought it was going to be a close game…was happily surprised that we totally buried them.

I’m done talking about the Nuggets and how dirty they played. Time to focus on our next goal…

  • remy

paul garnett…first off, don’t act like you got class cuz you ain’t got one. stop being bitter cuz your team isn’t in the finals aite

Secondly…i think for an exception, odom should be recognized for his top performance too

  • kwame4mvp

So, I personally want a Lebron vs. Kobe final. I hate Lebron so I want to see Kobe stomp on his ass. Some other Lakers fans said they want the Magic. What about you guys? Let’s here your opinions…

    Nostradamus

I wish I was young I am 28 and been a Lakers fan since I was 6 years old and I live in Michigan. I have never missed any playoff series and stuck around for the bad. What makes me a hater and a doubter is watching my team get humiliated by the Celtics last year and by the Pisrons years back and the fact that Kobe doesn’t have 6 rings now and every1 is hyping LeBron.

By watching the Lakers in these playoffs the Lakers gave me no reason to have faith watching the Houston and Denver series with the exception of Game 6. Kobe is my fav player of all time and I want him to eclipse Jordan when his career is done as long that hasn’t heppen I am not satisfied. Everyone can be excited about the Lake Show makin the Finals but they seem to forget what happened in their last 2 final appearances.

Go Lakers and I am pulling for Orlando tommorow

  • ab4sure

Warlock did you listen to Pau talk. If we share the ball like we did the last two games we will be successful. Remember this is not a one man team. I find it hilarious that you would celebrate this team while you trashing it earlier. The lakers did just the opposite of what you wanted. They shared the ball and kobe only took 20 shots. This is how championships are won not the kobe only way but the laker way. You obviously don’t know what it takes to win a championship. So go get your Clipper tickets and start celebrating. You will be getting Blakey for your team. Good Luck with the Clippers. :)

  • WifelovesLuke

Magic Johnson is going to be fired from ESPN. He had the nerve to call someone other than Lebron the greatest basketball player in the league, KOBE! LOL

So much for the experts who picked the Thuggets. I hope the so called experts pick against the Lakers in the Finals. Bring on the rings, baby!

  • Jason

LAAAAAKERS BABY!!!! No way Kobe is losing in the Finals back to back years. Time to bring the championship back where it belongs!!!!!!

  • Lakers_TheTruth

It is indeed a good felling to shut up all the haters, doubters, trolls and analysts.
It was indeed a rough road for the finals, but now we know our team learn a lot through many mistakes. These last two games against the Thuggets, just proved that.

Now we just have to respect and focus on our next opponent, that at this point seems to be the Magic. They are a hard team and they shoot 3′s very well, plus Howard is a though guy. Bynum will have a great opportunity to man up against him.

Let’s celebrate our win tonight and be focus and positive. It’s not over yet. 4 more wins!

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS?)

If the Lakers play the way they did in Games 5 and 6, no one can touch them.

I ragged on Lamar, but, as I did after Game 5, I will give him his proper respect for another performance worthy of his $13.3 million salary and his natural talents. I pray and fervently hope he continues to perform at this level in the next and final round.

It is good to see the team putting together their best games at this point in the season, particularly on the road.

If it is the Magic, we are desparately going to need Andrew to follow Lamar’s lead and play at his highest level to hold Howard in check.

If it is the Cavs, Trevor and Lamar become the keys in defensing LeBron.

Anyway, 4 more wins and WE can hoist that 15th banner (which will be the 9th I have seen the Lakers win).

What I really liked was the focus and the determination of the players when they received the trophy in the locker room.
They know WCF is nice but not the goal. They were very subdued on their celebration, They want MORE!

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS?)

“I think Jesus would have had trouble covering [Kobe].”

Thus sayeth Coach Karl the Potato Head.

Which makes me wonder, “Jist how WOULD Jesus cover Kobe?”

Would he play off him and risk a rain of 3′s?

Or get real physical and risk the dribble-drive?

Would he use the Trinity (a triple team) forcing Kobe to pass out to an open teammate?

In sum, Coach Karl the Potato Head raises an interesting theological question. Thanks, Coach.

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS?)

Lamar Odom is sick. No, really, he has a cold, possibly a sinus infection:

“I walked to 7-11 when we got off the plane and got all this stuff,” said Odom pointing to a bag full of medicine and an empty 24-pack of water. “I finished a whole case of water and I’m trying to get better but I’ve been having night sweats. I really need to rest.”

If LO has what I’ve had for the past three weeks, Gary Vitti better get this dude a “Z Pack” (zithromycin antibiotic) PRONTO and ditch all that over-the-counter cr*p or Lamar is going to be sick, weak, and tired for the next few weeks, just when we need him to stay on this great roll he’s been on in games 5 and 6.

Get well quick, LO! And, Gary, do your damn job and get this guy some real meds TODAY.

Because I don’t think a real “denvah gangsta” would last much longer than a minute rolling down crenshaw without pissing your pants.

  • what will be

KOBE VS LEBRON, the Lakers don’t care who they play in the CHAMPIONSHIPS, if they play the way they played last night, they are the best team in the NBA…

I said before, I’ll say it again. IF Kobe would just focus on making more shots than he misses and try and improve his shooting % in each game focusing on taking good shots, and driving to the basket, and posting up more, The LAKERS win 9 out of 10 of those games…

I hope Kobe wins his 4th ring, I’m pulling for him 100%, and the great Phil Jackson, too. and the whole LAKER TEAM. I think maybe a new time has come with Kobe, where he is going to refine his game as he get’s more mature instead of playing with so much energy shooting tons of shots per game, he’ll do what I’m hoping for above and work on his shooting %, it’s that simple…

Rings are the goal now, always…

Hey, is it just me or doesn’t this Laker team remind you of STAR WARS???!!!??

THINK ABOUT IT…LOOK AT THE COMPARISONS

YODA – PHIL JACKSON (the wise old creature that imparts his wisdom all the time)

LUKE SKYWALKER – KOBE BRYANT (the chosen one)

HAN SOLO – LAMAR ODOM (the candy man)

CHEWBACCA – PAU GASOL (I know he’s not that ugly, but he’s tall and hairy. c’mon, it’s close)

C3-PO – TREVOR ARIZA (The guy always does something smart. plus, his jersey number is 3)

R2-D2 – DEREK FISHER (the smallest guy. plus, his jersey number is 2)

YEAH MAN…THEY ARE TOTALLY THE STAR WARS TEAM!!!

    i’m a bit worried about a lakers/orlando finals.

so far the regular season has been mirrored in the playoffs.
    and orlando beat us twice.
plus we are notoriously bad at guardingthe three. we may just have to outscore then, since it doesn’t seem like we have a big man to control howard either.

cavs we’d take in 5 i think, at most 6.

but i think if we play consistent basketball, like the last two games, we can beat anyone.

and i’d like all the phil haters to give props.

is this 50 and 0 when winning the first game?

the man is an all time great for a reason, and just because you don’t understand him, or some of the players aren’t smart enough to run a good triangle, doesn’t mean it’s his fault.

That was impressive. for once in these playoffs Kobe didn’t have to carry the team. I’m sure he’s relieved about that. Odom and Luke(today) actually showed up. I still don’t know what PJ is doing with Farmar when Shannon has showed he has a bigger impact on the game. But, IT AINT OVER. Now for the BEAST IN THE EAST…HOWARD or LEBRON! The Lakers would have an easier time with the Cavs. The Magic are a bad matchup. Can’t start Pau and Bynum, neither one can keep up with Rashard Lewis. Bynum off the bench, that leaves you 12 fouls to use on Howard. Odom will have to play a big role in this series staying with Lewis.

  • pio2u

Congrats Lakers but now we have bigger fish to fry. See you Thursday!!!

  • ab4sure

Wow were are the haters. Criticizing this team constantly. Funny thing happened is they just needed to get Pau more touches and not rely on one man kobe. That opened up the whole game. Kobe had his best game scored 35 points on 20 shots. Now that is efficient. I think Kobe has learned to play more effectively with this team and doesn’t necessarily have to go one on one all the time. I am sure there are a couple of idiots who just think he needs to shoot 40 shots but they were smacked in the face last night. You losers know who you are.

Hey Bi-tch-A$$, I mean F@G4SURE…Pau put up the same numbers…20 and 10. The difference was the BUMS SHOWED UP! Odom…20pts, Puke, 10pts, Ariza…20pts. Kobe actually had HELP! That’s all everyone has been asking for. Show up, play hard…period. That was the difference! You’re not right! Everyone who said Kobe was carrying the team until lastnight were right! If the Lakers win by 2 or 3 pts when Kobe is doing all the work, of course they will win by 20 when those other guys decide to come to work…which was the case last night. But, don’t say SH_IT yet, let’s see if they show up int the FINALS! I’m sure we’ll be having this discussion again after 2 games!

  • kwame4mvp

[Comment ID #73712 Will Be Quoted Here]

yea our 3 point defense is horrible. and we have no big guy to defend howard. I do want the Cavs, but I don’t want all the analysts to hail Lebron as a hero and how great he is because he recovered from a 3-1 deficit.

  • LongDongMamba

I think is impossible for the Cavs to bounce back. Magic probably will hammer them tonight if not on game 7.
They are just too confident to win and LBJ knows his teammates are not delivering.
Lakers need to be very careful against the Magic. It won’t be easy and they need to focus on D big time, specially on the 3 point line. Magic has very good shooters.
Bynum will have his chance to shine and try to control Howard. Now it is his time to shine.
    Lakers in 6.

  • ab4sure

Dub I guess considered yourself one of the losers. Know the difference is that the lakers didn’t rely on one man. When we started putting the ball in the post good things happen. If we just pic and rolled everytime then we would struggle. Kobe trusted his teammate Pau after Pau was complaining and good things happened. I know you bust everyone on this team except kobe but you don’t know what makes a team successful. Fortunately kobe is learning very well in fact he played his best game of the series last night and only took 20 shots.

Those guys have been trying their hardest all series long. The difference is they learned to play the right way you Dumbass. They learned to attack Denver by going into the middle. I know you want kobe going for 60 but you just a fan of a player not really a fan of the game or the lakers.

  • ohboy

if jordan does that and gets away with a win, that shows the greatness of pippen. hopefully we can have our guys do the same. relieves kobe from too much pressure and play team basketball. kobe is still the main man and he will be required to get his but unlike last year, hopefully we can have someone else step up big as well.

AB4SURE…SH_IT for brains…are you retarded? If I wanted Kobe to go for 60pts every night, i wouldn’t have been complaining about his teammates…or lack there of. If that was the case, you wouldn’t have heard anything out of me with Kobe doing all the work. But, I have complained about his teammates not playing hard, and doing their part. Lastnight, they happen to show up and the Lakers won big. Not because they went inside to Pau more, but because those other Lakers actually helped with the scoring load. Pau didn’t score 30 0r 40pts. IT WAS THE OTHERS who hadn’t showed up til now! This has been my entire argument, not wanting to see Kobe score 60pts. Are you slow, or mentally challenged?

Celtics are done man, I doubt they will make the finals, Garnett, Pierce and Ray are getting old by the hour and the competition in the East is just getting tougher.
Cavs an Magic and the upcoming Bulls and Hawks are getting better. I predict another 20 year until they get another ring. lol

hawks have been the up and comers for two years now.
    they are done.
they may get 4th or 5th place again in the east, but that just means they are the best of the high school teams

“But, don’t say SH_IT yet, let’s see if they show up int the FINALS! I’m sure we’ll be having this discussion again after 2 games!”

you said that. that is so insanely negative for a fan to say.
joseph or paul garnett would say the same thing. i respect you are a fan. i’m sure you are a fan. i can’t take that away from you. but when you come with so much negativity to your own team, especially after getting in to the finals again(which phil himself said is one of the hardest things to do in basketball) it’s time to give it up to a team that handled their sh!t. but all you do is come that negative vibe again. so you sound like a hater.

Martin = Gasol…He’s not as talented offensively, but Kmart is better defensively, more aggressive and intimidating. Better shot blocker and still getting 14pts a game. I think with all that on the defensive side, Martin = Gasol if not better.

No more denialpeople. It’s now obvious. Without Kobe going off, this Laker team is overmatch at almost every position:

    Billups > Fish
    Melo > Ariza
    Martin = Gasol
    Nene > Bynum
    Birdman > Odumb…out playin his A$$
    JR > Vujabrick
    Klieza > Puke
    Carter > Farmar

Must I say more. At almost every position the Nuggets are better. Only the blind, deaf, and dumb can’t see this. I bet 90% of you would replace our players with Denvers above. Phil Jackson no longer coaches, or teaches. I don’t understand why people think this Laker team is better than it actually is. Even George Karl felt good before the game because other than Kobe being the best closer, he had the better TEAM!…which is what he said. Time to let Odumb walk. I wouldn’t re-sign Ariza when we could get Marion or Artest. From the bad signings…Vujabrick and Walton…Mitch is stuck with that. The two 7fters can’t play together because they clog the lane and they’re both soft, so one has to be traded for a tough, perimeter capable big man. Kobe is wearing down and can’t carry this weak team to a championship by himself!

NEED I SAY MORE T-DUMBASS!!!! YOUR OWN WORDS CONDEMN YOU.
YOU SEE TEAMS ONLY THROUGH ONE ON ONE MATCHUPS AND MANY OF THOSE MATCHUPS YOU GOT WRONG. REMEMBER LAST YEARS FINALS. TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIP. I CAN TELL YOU NEVER COACHED THE GAME OR PLAYED IT MUCH. IF YOU DID IT WAS FROM THE BENCH OR ON THE WEEKEND IN THE PARK.

IF YOU HAD YOUR WISH THE OTHER YEAR WE WOULD BE A LOTTERY TEAM THIS YEAR. YOUR HOPE WOULD BE IN LOTTERY BALLS. WHY??? BECAUSE YOU GOT NO OTHER BALLS T-DUMBASS!!

    you still got told, fool.

    HATER!!!! COME JOIN THE POSITIVES!

i admit, it was scary with the denver nuggets. they were great.
but as a team, with the players we have, we beat them.

    own up.
you got it wrong with your negativity.

BYNUM’S PROBLEM The Lakers want Bynum to play defense, block shots, rebound and be an aggressive feared force around the basket. During the last half of Kareem’s career (He played too long) he was anything but that. Finess, slow jog down the court, pansy, soft no defense. This is what Bynum is becomming. Get an AGGRESSIVE, HARDNOSED, DEFENSIVE tutor in there to work with Bynum or he will end up the way Kareem was during the last half of his career. We need him to be more like Howard, not Kareem. Michael Cooper would have been ideal. One more year with Kareem could ruin this guys approach to the game. The Laker investment is too big to let that happen.
