HOOPSWORLD.COM: It’s truly a difficult time for the Los Angeles Lakers. I’ve been trying to put a positive spin on what I see and hear, but it’s getting very difficult to comprehend exactly what is going down.

Kobe Bryant has been all over the place (radio, print, internet, etc) expressing his lack of faith in the Laker organization. He feels he was re-signed under false pretenses . . . that the team promised to build an immediate contender around him.

Instead the team embarked on their well documented and since defunct 2007 plan which entailed generating cap room for this very summer. They drafted a 17-year old kid and passed on available veterans that Bryant thought would be able to help the club (Carlos Boozer, Ron Artest, Baron Davis, etc). They also traded Caron Butler, his close ally, for the disappointing Kwame Brown.

    Some big story’s today, eh.

The most serious one is the owner of the Lakers is arrested for DUI and spends the night in the drunk tank. Have you ever seen a drunk tank full of inebriated people, puking and pissing on each other. Not a pretty sight, and our owner is right in there among all the drunks. Now THAT is embarrassing to the Laker family.

Kobe should not have gone public: Not that he wasn’t speaking the truth, not that we have serious problems in the front office, we are a mess. Its what it means, there is no going back. The clock is now ticking, another great star will be leaving the Lakers. No way Buss will keep someone who called him out in public like that, even if Kobe is right.

West can not straighten out this mess: This is why he left LA. No way will he come back. He is not a glutten for punishment.

I’m not blaming Kobe for this mess either. All the blame goes to Buss. He should have been on the phone to Kobe, doing his best to smooth it out, but instead was on the floor of a drunk tank, passed out.

A glimmer of hope: All the parties need to get together. The feathers are ruffled, it will be hard, but it could be done. Only one person could get these people together and mediate a sensible resolution. Magic. They need to get together and do it ASAP. Magic, we need your services again. Get the coffee brewing, sober up both Busses, get Mitchie away from his play station, get Kobe away from reporters, lock them all in a room with no food, phones, or water until they solve this mess.

Attention all Kobe Lovers/Kobe Haters and Laker Lovers. If Kobe demands a trade, we are screwed worse than when Shaq screwed us. For two years, kobe can call all the shots. He wants to play only for the Bulls. They would absolutely own us. If you keep Kobe until his no trade option runs out, he still will dictate where he goes. His salary will be in the low 20 mils. The trade team would demand an extention from Kobe, to give away all those players, and if Kobe refuses, no deal.

Of course the Lakers can always release him and send him packing with a 90 million dollar check and be done with him. We’d have four years of 22 mil against the cap and nothing to show for it.

If you say keep him, do you feel he would play all out for Dr.Buss. I don’t mean tank games, but a mild sprain would keep him off the court for 2-3 months like Luke did. Can’t risk his future and take a chance, I think he might reason. He would be saving himself for his future team.

Kobe you are right, but you over reacted. I understand your frustration of being mislead all along. You should have done this behind closed doors.

    Fatty

PS. My next post. Why Buss needs to sell the Lakers.

The article is everywhere. What difference would it make if I post it here? Like I said, I didn’t write the article, don’t shoot the messenger. Plus, you know where we stand in this Kobe vs. the world situation. No need to question our loyalty to Kobe. :-)

As far as I’m concerned, this isn’t going to happen. How did we go from trading FOR KG or JO to trading AWAY kobe? Lets keep this site positive, we hear laker/kobe bashing everywhere else, lets keep it off this site.

As usual both Emplay and Plaschke have shown their complete ignorance. Hmm, trade Kobe. Great solution. I know of few Lakers fans who would be down for something so stupid, but I know almost every Laker fan feels exactly like Kobe: Mitch stinks. It’s just an undeniable truth at this point. And he’s right, management is a mess. The Buss can’t figure out if Jim is supposed to be playing GM or owner in training. If he’s the heir apparent to the empire he needs to get his ass out of personell decisions. If he doesn’t trust Mitch enough to do things right, which he obviously does not as he seems to be calling the shots, then he needs to do the right thing and fire Mitch as any owner would do given his track record as successor to Jerry West. Problem is Mitch is the yes guy. He’s basically just been the face while Jim is calling the shots. Does he really want an independent person making personell decisions. Buss Sr. was wise owner to let West do his job and step away. Jim should do the same, hire someone good and let him do his thing. Jerry West will not be that guy – already done that. So hire a good young GM and fire Mitch.

I understand why Kobe is fustrated. He was promised that the lakers were going to build a contender around right away and the laker management has not followed through with their promise. I think Kobe feels the lakers are planning for the future and just using him to sell tickets (which may or may not be true). So he is calling them out telling them to make good with their promise to him.

The problem is that there isn’t an easy answer. I don’t see any forseeable trade that can be made right now that will greatly improve the lakers. Someone wrote that the spurs are not that much better but the truth is that they are, and any realistic trades that can be made right now will not put them at that level.

By going public with his complaints (even though they are true) Kobe has made every GM in the league know how desperate the lakers are right now; either improve and win or lose your star player. Could the lakers get O’neal, possibly. But right now I don’t think they could get him for less then Odom and Bynum. Would the lakers be any better with a starting line up of:

    Brown/Mihm-C
    O’neal-PF
    Walton-SF
    Bryant-SG
    Parker-PG

Maybe a little, but they still wouldn’t be as good as the spurs. Even that same line up with Garnett wouldn’t be all that much better.
If they could get O’neal or Garnett for Brown/Bynum 1st round pick and a filler that would make them better probably contenders but I don’t think that trade is possible.

The lakers had some trade values but with the surgery to Odom and Brown alot of that went away. Now with Kobe publicly voicing his discontent with Laker management, no matter how right he is, they have even less.

I can’t believe I am going to right this, since I’m a big laker and Kobe fan (he is the best player right now and probably will be for the next 3 years). But if things keep going the way they are now The lakers might be foreced to trade Kobe. It would be one of the biggest blunders ever in the NBA. There is no where they can get trade value for Kobe there are only a few players with that value (Wade, James, Duncan, Arenas) but none of them are available. Trading Kobe would set the Lakers for years, it would probably be a 2 or 3 years maybe more before they coould even make the playoffs again. It would be a disastrous business transaction.

But if Kobe keeps publicly voicing his discontent with the owners son what choice will they have. Kobe is an employee and they can not have an employee publicly speaking out against the owners.

I’m not blaming Kobe for this its not his fault, its the fault of mistakes being made and injuries etc. If the lakers can’t or won’t build a contending team around Kobe I Wouldn’t blame him for wanting to be traded; he wants to win and not waste the prime of his career.

I hope the lakers can work this out. I don’t want to see Kobe being traded.
