Derek FisherUPDATE: Kevin Ding of the OC Register is starting soften his stance from this article. Had a funny feeling this would happen.

The OC Register is reporting that the Lakers and Derek Fisher have finalized a deal. Is the MLE too much to pay for the former Laker guard? Everyone’s got an opinion. I’d like to be the first to welcome back the Fish!

O.C. Register: The Lakers could use some of the old glory these days, and it’s coming in the form of Derek Fisher.

The Lakers and Fisher were close to an agreement Tuesday night on a three-year contract, likely worth about $16 million.

Fisher became a free agent July 2 in a rare development when he was released from his Utah Jazz contract — giving up the remaining three years and $20.6 million — because he wanted to relocate to a city where 1-year-old daughter Tatum could get optimal care for her rare form of eye cancer.

• Rpoc

I would be more excited if it weren’t for the price

• Ignard

Thats cool, definitely an upgrade from Smush but we still need a point guard, but i’m happy to have Fish back and i hope the best for his daughter.

• lakers4life

is it the full MLE??

• One35

Yuck

• ray

i agree, rpoc. to commit that kind of money to someone who cannot fully commit to the franchise is a mistake. nothing against fisher, but that’s probably the best way to look at this…as a business, and maybe the minimum should have been given to him. however, i stand behind my lakers and hopefully, this will be the start of better deals to come

• kb24 lala land

this is great but the price is kind of high. This moves will go to waste if we dont get another big man. Get kgggggggggggggggggggggggg.

• Brandon

Great signing by the lakers, and we have a little bit left of the MLE to get someone else that can help, or in a trade. One more inpact player can put us in the elite group of teams (which are all in the west).

its 5.3 of the 6.6 of the mle

WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• LakerNation1

Mister .4 returns!

• J-Cool

We Just Need A Big Man But Who Can We Get In Free Agent?

• Newtdog

This is good. for a few reasons…
1. The price is not that high…..We are getting Fisher at a cheaper price than we would have been able to get him in a normal free agent situation. Probubly closer to what we offered him when he left the lakers.
2. Kobe will Stay…..Aside from the care that his daughter can get, i don’t think Fisher would come back unless he knew that Kobe was staying. Furthermore, I don’t think that Kobe will leave fisher behind, if they are as good of friends as everyone says.
3. I don’t feel as bad now if they have to sacrafice Farmar in a KG deal. I really like Farmar, but if he is the tradebait that we need to land KG, then so be it. We still have Crittendon, and I think he’s gonna be pretty damn good and will be able to learn behind Fish.
4. Finally, Fisher is a Laker veteran. He knows the offense, he can play D and can hit the open shot and most importantly…he has heart. That is all we need out of him. We do not need a pointguard that scores 15 points a game. Remember, fisher ran the offense during the three-peat. This is awesome news for Laker nation!!!

• mlkg721

Well, so much for signing someone else who can help. Who the hell are we gonna get with 1.3 mill? We need another defensive player in the worst way, and another big. I hope we’re happy with the money we’ve spent. One thing it does pretty mmuch say, it might be a wrap for Mr. Farmer.

• LakerNation1

why such negativity in here? i thought we all liked D-fish….good player at a good price if u ask me…

• ray

yeah, maybe adding farmar will put the finishing touch on a trade for garnett

• http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com Robert

Fisher only shot 38% from the floor this year. That’s horrible! He plays hard and plays good defense, but that shooting percentage is terrible.

Check out this important website, by the way: http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com my personal favorite. Very important free videos to watch online on various very important topics.

Half of you guys are retarded telling Cupcake to get it done when the final decision is on Minny’s hands to finalize it. The blame for everything bad isn’t all on Cupcake just because Koby went on a rant/frustration tirade calling people out. Honestly, if Minnesota doesn’t pull this deal, they’ll regret it. They can get something for Garnett now rather than nothing next year when he opts out.

ur a hater dude.fish is better than steve francis.ur just a francis fan,now you’ll be a clipper fan cuz thats where his lazy fat ass is goin.francis wouldnt do anything we need him to do.with fish it takes alot off kobe and we are 20x better on the D end at pg.once we get KG it will be unstopable we will be the 2nd or third best team in the league(with KG)and even by some FAT chance we don’t get him we are 4th or 5th best.you’ll see this is where fisher belongs.fuck his averages with GS and uth its not fair he wasnt the point guard on those teams or the team wasnt right for him.all this 38% shit,he averaged 43%(excluding rookie yr played 6gms 28%)and his career 3pt is 43%THATS GREAT %!!! thats pretty much is what we need him for is to hit wide open 3s which he will get alot.AND NOTHING MEASURES HIS HEART AND DESIRE;HE IS A TRUE LAKER AND HIM AND KB24(MVP) PAIRED WITH KG WOULD BE HUGE.fuck phx those guys are chicken shit there show it would be L.A. and San Antonio battles for a while.

• cyrus

Welcome Back Fish, you deserve every penny they are paying you. Fish is the spirit of this team, he has contributed to 3 NBA titles for the Lakers.

Now, everything is falling in the right place, my confidence in getting Garnett is unshakable now. Garnett will be a Lakers uniform in October.

Fatty,

I am very disturbed that we spent big chunk of the MLE on Fish, I was hoping we would use it to get Smush. Just to have somebody to blame everything on. Who is gonna take the blame now? hahaha

some guy on LakersGround.net wrote this….
I heard it this morning on Fred Roggin and Simers Square. Near the end of the show, Fred told TJ Simers that Phil Jackson wants Artest. Fred said that Jeanie Buss had told him so. He went on to say that Phil Jackson is the only coach who can control such a player. Whether he can control Artest or not, that is not the issue, it’s weather we can acquire him. Do we really need another Rodman or Isiaiah Rider. Can we come up with a decent package. I think he would be a better fit and a better defender than Kwame.

http://lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=44785/quote

• Rpoc

I like D-Fish but you guys are not seeing the big picture here.

The advantage of getting Fisher with the minimum is you have the MLE left.

You use that MLE on a big because any KG/JO trade will result in a decrease of depth in the front court, especially now that Marc Gasol is a year away.

Like signing Magloire or Darko.

That option is gone now.

Fisher will be blamed soon enough. It’s inevitable.

• Fatty

Kenny
I don’t know either. That’s the problem we have if we send all our big guys away in a trade. How much is Mimm worth?
I was thinking 2.5 – 3.5

If some team offers him more we are in trouble. I saw our summer league guys play tonite on NBA TV and none of them looked to good at the center. This will be interesting to see how desperate we are and how willing is Buss to go over the lux cap.

• kb24mvp

now hopefully mitch is pullin deal with minny.it makes it more interesting i think it will be a better even better deal for minny add another youngin to the deal cuz dats what they want.they tryin to get rid of jaric and hudson.WHO’S there PG? FAMAR WOHOOOO!lol

bynum(young bright future)
kwame(9mil off da books next year)
odom(only 13mil and he can help mold those young players and he will be better in the lead or secondary role with anyone else)
and farmar(young talent)

all there needs are filled and is gonna be the best deal they are gonna get by far especially this is the last time they are gonna get sumtin for KG

bynum/odom/kwame/farmar for KG and mayb filler, works for both teams!

If the Lakers FO cant do more than Luke and Fisher (who fell into their lap – pure f’ng luck), then the Lakers become nothing more than a 40-45 win team. If that happens, the season ticket holders revolt, the stars stop showing up and Kobe’s gone! And Buss (all of ‘em) will deserve it.

• magic32

WE BETTER KEEP ROOM FOR KOBY KARL. I WAS WATCHING HIM PLAY TODAY ON NBA TV AND HE HAS A NICE STROKE FROM 3 POINTS. HE ALSO DRIVES HARD TO THE BASKET. AND WOULD BE A GREAT 2 GUARD COMING OFF THE BENCH FOR KOBE.

yea man Coby Karl is a steal!…we need to play him as a SF!!!

• tj

Fisher is solid and we need a point gaurd…but without KG and ARTEST or JO in the mix, The Lakers will not be true champion contenders…Minn is the sorriest franchise if they won’t take LO, AB, and FARMAR and Cook, or Brown. Minn becomes a young upside playoff team if they make do the deal with the Lakers…Minn should thank the Lakers for giving them the players we offer, it’s almost like Minn is taking the stance that they are doing us a huge favor and we are robbing them…Like they have one several championships with KG, be real Minn pull the triger.

• Justin M.

I’m so glad we got a pg that can hit the open shot and play soild defense on guys like Nash. But on the KG thing, most likely he will go to the warriors and the reason it hasnt happened yet is because they cant trade the guy that got for J rich for until 30 days after the signing. If he doesnt go to the warriors in the week of the 30 day period than the Lakers still have a shot a KG, but until then let’s assume he’s gonna be a warrior.

• klao

did I read a different article?

It doesn’t say they have agreed, they say they’re close to do in it.

until they make it official, I won’t get excited about it.

about time we signed somebody…ANYBODY

KG should reject any trade offer the warriors make, and make it clear through his agent that he will only approve a trade with the Lakers….KG on the Warriors? No way KG on the LAKERS.

Assuming the final details are worked out, Fisher would join Luke Walton and Crittenton as summer signees and bring the roster to 13 players; Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak plans to begin the season with 14 players and wants to re-sign center Chris Mihm. Second-round draft picks Sun Yue and Marc Gasol are not expected to sign with the Lakers until next year.

The Lakers are still interested, however, in major roster upgrades if the asking price in trade for Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O’Neal drops

• KGDMAN

Not a done deal but close Im sure. OCREGISTER.COM “The Lakers and Fisher were working toward an agreement Tuesday night on a three-year contract, probably starting at about $5 million.”

Let us not celebrate until they actually have a press conference in which Da Fish gets his #2 back. In the meantime yahooo!!! lol.

• kb24mvp

the only way i do the JO trade is if they only want LO or bynum not both(prefer they take bynum)other wise i think bynum/LO/farmar/and another player for KG is worth it,and on the JO trade JO has to accept an extension and not opt out next yr or it aint even worth it.
KG WILL BE A LAKER!!!
i like derek but, dude the MLE is too much
It was either him or Blake…..

And I believe it is half the mle(3 yr/ 16 mil).

• Ricky

yes!! i am glad that the lakers may have a chance to reunite with fisher. i think he will be great with kobe in the backcourt because he will bring the veteran leadership, experience, timely shooting, and strong defense that the lakers need at the lead guard position. fish is also someone kobe will have respect for and can trust fully because of their history as teammates together in the past. all the lakers need to do now is bring back robert horry, shaq o’neal, and get rick fox out of retirment and we’ll kick some ass next season, haha!!!

now to another matter, the lakers KG or JO issue. obviously garnett would be the top choice on any lakers fan and lakers management list. however, it will be more difficult to trade for garnett than it would be for jermaine. so if the lakers are unable to get garnett, i believe that the lakers need to package a deal to indiana for o’neal. my proposed deal would be andrew bynum, kwame brown, vladimir radmanovic, and a future first round pick. i believe that’s equal value in exchange for o’neal at this point in his career. indiana would be getting a young and potentially talented center in bynum, an expiring contract and good defender in kwame, an excellent shooter in radmanovic, and a future first pick.

if this trade goes through, the lakers roster may look like this next season

C- o’neal, mihm (maybe lost to free agency), gasol (maybe overseas)
PF- odom, turiaf, cook
SF- walton, evans
SG- kobe, sasha
PG- fisher, farmar, crittenton, yue (maybe overseas)

this is a great roster, the lakers would just have to find another SF to strenghten the swingman position.

• DeepFrost

gotta wait till the ofFISHal comeback)))

• lakerfan81

Well no one will know what the contract price is before he signs it. I don’t know what they are basing the price on, probably his agent saying he wanted the full MLE. But Fish fired his agent for making him look like an asshole saying he wanted a full MLE contract. I was thinking that that price is too high, which it is. But if you look at players that have gotten full MLEs in the past it is usually a bad signing (not just with the lakers in signing Radmonovich). At least with fisher you know what you are getting. If you look at what else was out there its not too bad. Blake wanted the full MLE (way too high), thats really the only PG available at that price range. Maybe Francis but he does not fit the office, does not try consistently on either end of the floor, is a malcontent. If the contract is for that much then they would still leave 15M for 3 yrs to sign another player. So it is high but it is not that bad.

“Kobe, Odom, Fisher maybe the 3 biggest hearts in the NBA”

Yup!!

• Fatty

Can we have our cake and eat it too? 1st Fisher then Francis?
From the Washington Post

The Los Angeles Clippers are believed to be front runners for Francis’s services and such a move would reunite Francis with his friend and former teammate in Houston and Orlando, Cuttino Mobley. But according to a league source, the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers have also expressed interest in Francis, who has averaged 18.4 points and 6.1 assists in eight seasons.

Francis came out a clear cut winner in the agreement reached with Portland on Tuesday, as he was able to collect more than $30 million in deal. Fried said the deal allows Francis to choose the “right fit as opposed to the most money. He doesn’t need much to be made whole.”

• Fatty

Kenny – Check this out

LAS VEGAS – The Suns held a just-in-case workout Tuesday with Chris Mihm.

Phoenix and Memphis took a look at the 7-foot free-agent center. Mihm’s skill set could be a nice fit, but Phoenix likely would sign Mihm only if it traded Kurt Thomas (and his $8.1 million salary) or if Mihm were willing to play for the veterans’ minimum.

• Fatty

Espn’s Marc Stein reports from the Summer League:

My favorite Laker: Coby Karl

The reflex answer, if you had surveyed the stands after the Lakers’ first game, would have been Javaris Crittenton, after several successful slices to the rim by the point guard from Georgia Tech in his 18-point debut.

But I’m going with the sentimental choice — cancer survivor Coby Karl — because it’s not just a sentimental choice. Karl happens to look rather solid already, emerging as the glue guy for the Lakers’ summer squad.

He’s a late bloomer, but he’s also blessed with hoops smarts and proven toughness after overcoming what he’s faced already in life at 24. If you can also shoot with the range Karl is showing here, you’re going to stand out in the summer league.

Another system player for Phil Jackson in the Luke Walton mode? Could be. Big guards who can pass and move have a future in Jackson’s triangle offense, which has never relied on traditional point guards.

Said one falling-in-love West exec: “He should have been a late first-round pick. He’s going to play in this league for a long time.”

Fatty’s take: If we trade a third of our team for KG, a guy like Coby could make the team. If that happens, then Mitch will get credit for an undrafted, NBA player. Hey, give props where due.

• http://www.getgarnett.com Rok

They should sign Rodney White as well.

• Martin

A teams success is based a lot more on chemistry, than talent. A big part of the Lakers struggles were that Smush just didn’t fit what they were trying to do. In Fisher, the Lakers get a guy who spent five years playing an important role in Phil Jackson’s system. Between Fish, Walton and Kobe, the Lakers will be able to start three guys with substantial triangle experience, which will make everyone around them better. This is the best move they could’ve made.

Fisher is a HUGE upgrade at the PG position. if we don’t make any more trades and remain healthy next year, we might get off to an even better start than last year’s 26-13! we could still get a better PF (i don’t like LO at PF) in KG, JO, or Pau Gasol. i’m willing to take JO IF, and only if, we don’t have to include both LO and Bynum.
next year’s lineup without any trades:

C: Bynum/Kwame
PF: Ronnie/Cook
SF: Odom/Walton
SG: Kobe/Evans
PG: Fisher/Crittenton

anyone not listed on this lineup could be shipped out

I’m happy we got D-Fish but the one thing that has me thinking, a couple of years ago the NBA’s point guards where killing us and the only thing keeping us in games were Shaq and Kobe, I remember people talking about getting rid of Fisher and getting an elite PG, why are we so happy at this point to get back the same player we wanted to get rid of at one point because he cant guard most good point guards out there. I thinks people are just happy to see a move and are not taking the time to look at it for what it really is. I like d-Fish and his heart and work ethic but I just dont like to fact that people are making this out to be a GREAT signing when it kinda isnt.

I do think this is a good pick up for the fact that he has experience in the triangle, Kobe trusts him, and he has a good relationship with Phil, Phil always had confidence in Fisher no matter what, I never saw a game where Phil took him out like he did with Smush, this is a huge improvement, we should have never let Fisher go. Now if the rumor is correct that Phil wants Artest and we can get KG man this team will be freaking good on both ends.

Hes a god sign, hell help us.

Lakers Roster
G-Derek Fiher/Jordan Farmar
G-Koe Bryant/Luther Head/Sasha Vujacic
F-Jalon Rose/Luke Walton/Mo Williams
F-Jermaine O’neal/Vladimir Radmonivich
C-Andrew Bynum/Ronny Turiaf

The lakers 2008 NBA Champions amd back at the top for the west.!!!!!!!!!!1

• mR.beaSt

shins74, we can’t get Artest. he wants to retire a King, if that doesn’t work out he’ll go to New York, and if that doesn’t work, Miami will wecome him with open arms. a starting lineup of:

C: ??? (don’t need a good one with such a powerful group)
PF: KG (LO, Kwame, Bynum)
SF: Artest (Walton/Radman, Farmar)
SG: Kobe
PG: Fisher

sounds really good, but in reality we still have only a tiny chance of getting KG, and maybe an even smaller chance of getting Artest

• KBisDarthVader

this is either a really good sign of things to come….or a really bad signing.

I LOVE dfish, now i can rock his jersey again (for the past few seasons it has been hybernating in my closet). This may be a sign of great things to come: dfish is the kind of guy you need on a championship squad, he is a clutch, scrappy verteran who knows the game, knows the offense, knows KB and phil and can live with the pressure of starting for the Lakers. he brings character and credibility to the roster, he would impove our teams morale even as an equipment manager…

If we make a move to bring in a premier big man, dfish is a perfect fit. we need a dfish type veteran to be a real contender. however, if we dont get an allstar to pair with KB we should not be spending this king of money on an aging guard, because when kobe throws another tantrum and forces a trade (or opts out if we wont move him), we want to have all the cap space possible.

here’s hoping dfish is the first in a series of upgrades for the lakers…

WELCOME HOME!

• dub-quad

‘TIL WE GET K-GIZZLE, WE GOTTA HANDLE ALL THE LITTLE STUFF FIRST…WE SIGNED LUKE, GOT D-FISH BACK, NOW TRADE COOK AND SASHA FOR LUTHER HEAD, THEN GET F’N KG !!! DEFINATELY CANT LOOK AT FISH’S AVERAGES, HE PLAYS SOLID D, HITS OPEN 3S, MOST IMPORTANTLY, HES A BATTLE TESTED VETERAN TEAM LEADER…PLUS HE WALKS WITH GOD, MEANING NO MORTAL CAN F’ WITH THAT !!!

• lakerfan81

Francis does not fit as a PG in the triangle. He is not a shooter he is a driver. In the tirangle the PG has to be able to shoot. Francis is very talented, but he is not consistent in effort on either end of the floor. He has all the ability to be a great player but has never been one. he is only effective when he has the ball in his hands and the Lakers have enough of those players, Odom and Kobe. You can’t put a bunch of players on the floor that are require the ball to be effective. It just does not work. Well it kind of works for Dallas, but they did lose to GS in the first round. But if you look at the spurs, suns and Detroit they all have players that are effective without the ball. Duncan is a threat without the ball; he sets great picks for pick and rolls, he gets deep post position, he grabs offensive boards. Ginoboli is a good spot up shooter (although streaky) and a good slasher without the ball. Barry, and Bowen are both great spot up shooters. Nash completely dominates the offense for the suns and everyone just feeds off him. Hamilton is easily the best player since Reggie Miller at moving without the ball through screens to get open shots. Billups is very effective with the ball but he is also great at moving without the ball and is a good spot up shooter.

Having the right balance of players that are effective without the ball and players that are effective with the ball are key to having a balanced and effective offense, especially in the triangle. Kobe is obviously very effective with the ball at creating his own shot as well as creating for others. Odom needs the ball to be effective offensively. The Lakers try to post him up but he is not a post player, he is a point-forward and is great at creating shots for other people. That is why Kobe and Odom don’t always look like they fit together well. If you add in another player such as francis who is only effective when they have the ball…. it just does not work well in the triangle. You basically have 3 guys to play one on one basketball.

• mR.beaSt

the lineup we’ll most probably have next year is:

C: Bynum/Kwame
PF: Ronnie/Cook
SF: Odom/Walton/Radman
SG: Kobe/Evans/Sasha
PG: Fisher/Farmar/Crittenton

and maybe Gay or Coby Karl from the Summer League as a backup SF

• mR.beaSt

i agree with KBisDarkVader. unless we get a good big man this move is almost useless because this would almost be the exact same team, and come playoff time we’ll probably get killed even more by the Suns

• mlkg721

I think this is a good stepping stone, I just think that the lakers have some other major moves to make. As fans it s hard for us to tell whats really going on behind the scenes. Everyone in the media is saying that our chances of landing KG are Slim to none, but we feel that its the best destination for him. Does that mean it’ll get done? I don’t know, But we have to get someone else who is consistant to play with Kobe, someone reliable. I wish it would’ve been Lamar, but he’s a third option at best and needs better overall talkent around him to be successful. Fish is good, expecially considering the crop of pgs that are out there, but we still have plenty of holes to feel. we’re still a 7th seed at best.

• mR.beaSt

last year we were projected to be a 4th or 5th seed before all the injuries set in. we also had the most wins in our division, more than Pheonix and even more than the Spurs. if we do the right moves, we might be able to improve to a 3rd seed behind SA and Dallas. sounds like a stretch, but it could deff. be a reality. and 2-3 years from now when Nash starts gettin arthritis and Duncan starts being a victim of age, we will regain our rightful spot at the top of the Western Conference

• Fatty

martin – few words but well said

Our future point guards are set with Farmar and Critt. But neither is championship material yet. Fisher is a great stop gap if you want to compete now. Just like Ron Harper or Brian Shaw, Fish has everything we need NOW. No point guard out there knows the triangle, so no learning curve needed.

Come playoff time, NO CHOKING ALLOWED when it comes to Fish. He’s not afraid to take and make the shot. Like Big Shot Rob, he’s clutch. That is not measured in stat sheets. Our youngins, played chicken with PHX. They were afraid, not with Fish.

Defense mind set. This team has none. DFish is tough. Don’t you think he can help teach these guys how to play better defense and do that by example?

Fish is a great pick up. With the new rules of not touching point guards, it takes good smart team defense to stop or slow down the Steve Nash’s of the world. Fish can do it.

Glad your aboard.

I Agree we are still gonna get killed by the quick guards in the leage. But maybe Fish can help the young guys pick up the offense quicker and we can run the point by commity. For the fast guards we can put Java out there. In the fourth Quater we play Fish until the rooks get up to speed and can be depended on. Give Farmar the bulk of the minutes. I think as long as we get KG we can play better team D and we really can hide our Defensive medicority behind KGs help D. Pick & rolls are the lakers biggest problem. If KG can do a good job there we will be in good shape.

Fisher is a great addition to the Lakers, and for some reason, he just seems to fit with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Luke Walton.

Anyways, I’m kind of hoping he don’t deal Bynum, or at least until some time has passed in the regular season. If he is gettinga s good as the coaching staff has said, we could regret it later (or maybe his stock value will rise).

And the only player I do think we need to deal is Kwame Brown. Many teams are looking for an expiring contract for next years batch of free agents, so this is a perfect situation. Ideally, I would hope we would trade him for Artest. Artest is a great defender who would be like a Bruce Bowen. With his defense, Kobe’s and Fishers (along with maybe Bynum if he is comming along) would be a major upgrade from last year, a team who allowed to have have over 100 points scored on them.

That’s the rumor that I have heard talked about Ron Ron for Kwame “Butterfingers” Brown, so I just hope this comes true and the KG deal.

42 wins last year with all the injuries.

Serious injuries to Odom, Kwame, Luke, and Mihm. Injuries are part of the game, but we had more than the usual.

Improvements this year.

Fisher at the point.

Farmar, Bynum, have one more year of maturity.

Mo and Vladimir will understand the triangle better.

If healthy, how many more wins. 8-12? 50-54 wins. We were on pace for 55 wins before the injuries took over last year. We are better this year, but not good enough. A healthy Laker team could compete with the Suns, we proved that already. But it doesn’t mean we beat them.

Francis, not good fit with starters, but how about a second team player with Walton?

yes Fish is back in L.A

• Ciek

This article still holds no credibility. The lakers and derek fisher haven’t agreed to nothing yet.

• Ruin323

Im a huge Laker fan but I am truly getting tired of hearing about Derek Fisher and what he brings, I am a realistic person and he does not bring much, all he brings is his work ethic which I really liek and admire about him, he is a pretty stand up guy, but to our younger point guards it is not something he can tach them, they have to pick that up on their own. You forget we have probably the hardest working player in sports – Kobe who is better suited to have his work ethic rub off on someone since he is accomplished, D-Fish is not, he is a backup, like I said before why are we so happy to get back a player we wanted to get rid of before?? Answer – Because we are so desperate for a move to happen we are all happy to see one actually be made. But com one guys, D-Fish is not that good, he can barely make a lay-up, he does not make the 3 consistantly and he is slow compared to the point guards out there. Dont get me wrong I’m a fan but Im tired of hearing all this praise about what a wonderfull pick up when just 3-4 years ago we wanted to get rid of him and pick up someone else.

• Ricky

if fisher really resigns with the lakers this offseason, that would be a huge step forward in reshaping the lakers’ roster. fisher really gives this young lakers’ team some much needed veteran leadership and experience. i still think that some uprades are required and hopefully it can be done through free agent signings and trades, but if the team was to not do anything else this offseason, i would still be happy with the current roster with the addition of fisher, crittenton, and possibly the resigning of mihm.

current roster, possible roster for 2007/2008 season

C- kwame, bynum, mihm
PF- odom, turiaf, cook
SF- walton, radmanovic
SG- kobe, evans, vujacic
PG- fisher, farmar, crittenton

this is still a very deep team and hopefully garnett will opt out after next season and decide to join the lakers then, so my advice to kobe is just stay calm and hang on for at least one more season, then and maybe then the lakers can persuade garnett to come on board.
