Successful Reunion: Kobe, Shaq take home co-MVP honors

shakobeCongrats to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal; who in their first game together since June of 2004, they brought down a dominant win for the West as well becoming Co-MVP’s joining elite company such as Jordan to win at least three MVP awards.

The Reunion was everything we could’ve hoped for.

Kobe Bryant posted 27 points on 12-23 shooting including 4 assists.

Shaq tallied in 17 points on 8-9 shooting including some spectacular plays.

Even after nearly 5 years, the duo proved they are still one of the best in league history!

this is all great… but in their press conference kobe made sure he aint feelin shaq.. like rejectin him in a way… but we c wat happens… but this was great for the nba and kobe and shaq… great nite great weekend all round it was fun…..

well the all-star game sucked very badly with few dunks and exciting plays. but at the end big shaq and mamba kobe woke the crowd……

Paul Pierce still sucks…go back to inglewood

    • udechukwu

i had a feeling kobe was gonna get it, but nba definitely showed it was rigged when they made shaq the co-mvp

      cp3 14pts 14asts 7 rebouns
      shaq 17pts 5 rebounds

i dont like the idea of co-mvps but if they had to do it, shoulda given it to cp3 im sure he feels robbed… a little

dude lets be realistic they only wanted more media between the two by making them together for the mvp. They wanted to show how the two are still friends etc. by putting them together.

On other note i seriously hope lakers don’t make a huge mistake by bringing shaq back. it would be cool at first but it would harm us in the future

i think it was more about what shaq did in his 10 minutes compared to cp3 in his 30. shaq’s 17 points (3rd highest for the west) and 5 rebounds in 10 minutes is amazing, and although cp3 played a great game, what shaq did was more incredible.

We all now know how “FIXED” the NBA is! This co-MVP $hit is bull$shit! We all know that Kobe deserved it and Shaq shouldn’t have had any part of it! There’s been plenty great duo performances in the past but it’s always the guy who scored the highest that gets the honors. So, Stern, Stu Jackson, and the NBA…here’s another FCUK YOU from me to you!

Since you guys like “fixing” $hit so much, can you guys at least fix it so that the Lakers will take the championship this year? It’s only right since you guys fixed it so that the Celdicks won last year! Thats’ right, last year’s championship has an asterisk on it! We all know that Scott Foster (a friend of Tim Donaghy) was part of the officiating crew that was calling game 4 where the Lakers had a 21 point lead in the 1st quarter only to loose!

How stupid do they think we are for claiming that there’s “ONLY 1 ROGUE REF” out there! BULL$HIT, so FCUK YOU again NBA!

      No thank you.

Please easily forget all the drama back in 2004.
I like Shaq and I am thankful for what he has done for the Lakers. But his time is over and if he comes back all the drama will be back. Trust me, Shaq has a ego like his size. He will not sit on the bench and he will cause too much headache. We have such a great team now. Let’s not screw this up.

In all fairness to CP3, although his numbers were good, most of his stats came once the game was already decided. Kobe and Shaq helped the West get the lead and put it out of reach.

Shaq definetely put on a show last night. Without him the allstar game never would have been nearly as exiting as it was. Think about it – to some extend he kinda rescued the whole thing. Stern payed homage to that by making him the co-mvp. Credit a great entertainer…

I don’t see why the Lakers should not trade for shaq now. Moreover I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t simply swallow their pride and freaking get 2 or 3 more rings and cement a legacy to be proud of. Shaq needed wade as a sidekick in Miami and Kobe needs Gasol and/or bynum. Neither one can claim he achieved or will achieve a championship all by himself. Odom and some other dudes for Shaq… no brainer. Shaq and Gasol together with Bryant Fisher and someone else? Let it be Walton, Ariza or Sasha. Thats a pretty damn good lineup. With Bynum back the lakers could have a destroying frontcourt all game long with their bigs sharing minutes. That benefits Shaq as he gets older, would not have to play back to backs and stuff like that. And dig that – Shaq is motivated. He and Phil could end their careers at the highest peak with a repeat or maybe even a threepeat. Talking legacy. Talking Bulls. Why would Kobe not want this? Just to try to prove he can do it “on his own” (meaning with Gasol and Bynum…)If he is a professional it should work. They should do it.

    • T-Dub

The pre-game dance made me miss Shaq!

    • Dave

The Co-MVP award was not “rigged,” so lets not resort to lazy and paranoid thinking, OK?

Shaq admitted it will probably be his last All-Star appearance and he has the second most game appearances in NBA history — so Shaq has achieved a very rare accomplishment. The dude is popular, got it? He was invited to dance in the pre-game. Shaq was also highly entertaining on the court, especially with his ‘between-the-legs-pass-and-dunk.” All the things he did were even more impressive since he’s 7 foot tall, weights close to 400 lbs, is 37 years old, and this is his 15th All-Star appearance.

There’s about six reasons for Shaq sharing the MVP; none of these reasons are “golly, it must be rigged.”

    • LakersFirst

I would welcome back Shaq in L.A., however, the Lakers shouldn’t trade for him. Should Phoenix buy him out for whatever reason, then the Lakers should go after him.

Let’s face it, Shaq and Kobe together would equal another championship. I just don’t think Kobe’s ego would allow winning another ring with Shaq before he gets one on his own.

I can’t believe Shaq. One minute I love him, next I hate him. Last night I fell in love with him again. I would love to see him back but I want Kobe to do it without him once just to shut the Kobe haters up once and for all! I thought it was a very entertaining game. Kobe, in my opinion brought the west back. They were getting their rears kicked until Kobe kicked into overdrive. Shaq deserved co-mvp due to his sheer entertaining genius! Now let’s get to business, Go Lakers! Let’s get the championship this year and tell the Kobe haters to STFU!

Ratings? The MVP award was given AFTER the game was already over. How do you retro-actively increase ratings? Wouldn’t the evil “MVP-fixers” have received better ratings if they gave the Shaq the ward BEFORE the game?

By the way, if you’re wondering, David Stern did not pay me to write this post. C’mon!

Being a Laker fan, my concern isn’t about the successes of individual players. I could care less if Shaq records a whole album about Kobe. My concern is for the Lakers (the TEAM) to win a championship. That Laker logo that is on the front of the jersey, is what we Laker fans should care about, not individual players.

    • T-Dub

The Lakers don’t need Shaq! I think evryone’s feeling sorry for him because he’s and old man on a whack team and regrets running his mouth about Kobe the last 4 years. I thought like that once. I think Shaq is eating crow now. He knows now that his legacy would had been better staying with Kobe instead of running away for an easy one with D Wade. These guys could surely make some history together now and for a couple years to come. Can you imagine Shaq backing up Bynum and side by side with Pau? Sick man! THINK ABOUT IT. If Shaq is going to get his jersey retired eventually here anyways, would it not be better as a contributing player? Teams are going to get better continually so the Lakers need to do the same. I could not think of another player (who would be obtainable) that could make an immediate impact to our team faster than Shaq. Kobe needs to get one on his own first though. I also have a feeling he may be spouting off to get someone to give him a contract to keep him away from L.A. We’ll see in the future. Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • gugy

      No Shaq,
We don’t need him. He is a cancer to any team. He throw under the bus all the organizations he played for. The Suns will be the next.

Do you guys really think Shaq and his gigantic ego will sit on the bench while Kobe, Pau and Bynum are the centerpieces? No way. He will cause too many problems.

Paul Pierce: is he improving? I noticed three things about his boring, lackluster, and unexceptional performance:

      1) He did not fake an injury, get carried off the floor, and return dancing like a schoolgirl.
      2) He did not pour a jug of Gatorade on the floor well before the game was over, causing a disrespectful and lengthy clean-up delay.
      3) His ‘beard’ still looks like singed pubic hair.

Two out of three ain’t bad. Other than that, he’s a fine citizen.

I just don’t know about Shaq. He’s a likeable guy, but he also dissrupts everything when he’s unhappy. Instead of being a professional and just playing to earn his money, he’ll start running his mouth to make everyone else miserable. Remember, he’s had a problem everywhere he’s played….Penny in Orlando, Kobe, he even started making waves in Miami…besides with Riley, I think he and Wade had a few words. I’d rather they wait until the offseason to see which allstar they can get for the midlevel…Marion, R. Wallace, Iverson, Marbury will all be FA and they won’t get big money from anyone. I think only the midlevel will be available to all FA wi this economy, and why play for the Lakers and get it??

    • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #62109 Will Be Quoted Here]

Shaq a cancer? 3 rings with the Lakers and one in Miami. Wow, that sure sounds like a cancer.

Does Shaq have an ego. ABSOLUTELY!!! But so does boy wonder Kobe Bryant. It wasn’t just Shaq who broke up the duo, it was Kobe and “I don’t want to be anyone’s sidekick” comments. Shaq’s ego was more about money (i.e. greed).

Face it, Shaq would make a major impact to the Lakers and would result in a championship. PERIOD! Don’t forget people, Shaq is averaging 17 ppg and 8.9 rpg, which isn’t far from the 18 ppg and 9 rpg that fellow All-Star and Laker Pau Gasol is averaging. So for you people who say Shaq doesn’t have it anymore, how can a 37 year old man not have it anymore when he’s averaging numbers very similar to that of a 28 year old Spanish all-star.

However, should the Lakers trade for a 37 year old man making $20M a year? Hell no. That would kill the Lakers salary flexibility. Now if Phoenix were to buy out Shaq, then the Lakers should absolutely approach him and see if the two sides can come to terms.

Lastly, why on earth do people care whether or not Kobe gets a championship on his own or not? We are Laker fans right? If Shaq, or anybody else for that matter, can contribute to a championship, why the hell wouldn’t we want him. Remember LakersFirst!!!

I agree this was Shaq’s swan song for the All star game. I know who will replace him next year. It will be AB4sure.

For those who still have problems with Shaq. Get over it. If the lakers could get him for a cheap price then of course it would make sense for the Lakers to get him. If you still don’t want Shaq no matter what even if he came free of charge then you need to check your ego at the Laker door. Are you about giving the Lakers the best chance of winning or you about preserving kobe’s ego? Don’t worry Shaq would not win MVP in The Finals like he did three times in a row. Bynum will ;)
