Well, new article today. Taylor basically says KG’s preference is to stay, and that he never wanted to leave. While I find this interesting considering KG can walk at the end of the year, it’s a big blow to the “get Garnett” believers:

TwinCities.com: The Timberwolves kept star Kevin Garnett apprised of trade inquiries before the recent NBA draft, but Garnett expressed a preference to remain in Minnesota.

“His preference was that we not trade him,” Wolves owner Glen Taylor said.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the draft, Taylor said Monday, a day after returning from a three-week honeymoon in China, that he never sought to trade Garnett, 31, but for the first time decided to listen more seriously to what teams had to offer.

“In the past, teams had asked me, and I just said, ‘No, we’re not interested,’ ” Taylor said. “But this time, I was going to be more involved and said we probably should just see if something makes sense for us.

“I talked to K.G. about it; I said, ‘You’re going to hear a lot of (rumors) stuff, but I’ll call you if something really happens.’ I just asked him (about a trade), and he’d say, ‘No, I haven’t changed my mind.’

    It’s not over yet.

Mark Stein and I agree on that.

This makes no sense to me. I understand Garnett is a very loyal person, which is good, but the team is going nowhere fast. I don’t know maybe they just want to use him to sell tickets. They don’t even have a 1st round draft pick next season to improve the team that way. If they got a top 3 pick next season they probably could get Mayo or Rose to play PG. They might be ready to greatly improve the team right away, but they do not have a pick. I just don’t get it. Maybe Garnett just wants his 46M for the next two years (hell I would).

who cares if he wants to stay, SHIP HIS ASS TO L.A.!!
hes just gonna opt out at the end of the season and Minnesota aint gonna have shiit

If this is true & KG wants to stay with his Loser GM & Loser Owner then Yes we should put these rumors to rest & forget about him coming to LA..
KG i admire you as a person & player, but if you’ve already decided to be a LOSER and not ever win a ring in your pro career then so be it.. !

It is the owner, so the statement should be taken seriously.

But it is bizarre and contradictory.

Just one point, “we were never serious about trading him”

Speaking of losing any credibility that you had around the NBA. Who would trust him? Who would return Mchales calls? “Is this another April fools joke?”

If they were serious about trading KG, then Taylor is now lying. I think he is.

Predraft deals gone awry. It sounds like a KG deal was available before the draft. KG’s value was the highest then and will only go down. Perhaps Taylor is upset because they can’t get what they were promised earlier. So an emotional response, “were not trading him, he’s going to stay” in an effort to now repair image with fans.

I don’t think a deal is over. Minnie has taken a large step backwards tho. They are upset in not able to get the value for him they thought they could. They need more time to get used to the fact KG is not worth what they thought.

  • RoeBoat

Told you KG was gay and either Mchale or Taylor is too.
I seen Mcgrady move,AI,Shaq etc all because they wanted to win.
KG wants to win so badly you would think hes ready to at least try to get a ring but no hes gay.Blackmail is a mother.Mchale looks gay.Forget
who has kids and wife blah blah blah.Trust me any other reason is ludicrous.Does Kg have kids I don’t know.Maybe.But if Kobe wants to leave after three bad seasons and he wants to win as much as Kg then why hasn’t Garnett said get me out of here. Not in a Kobe way but a more professional way.Regardless the gay rumors may be a bit crazy but they
know something that we don’t.Trust Me

I want KG to succeed, and i feel that he can achieve what hes been looking for in LA. Not because i’m a lakers fan, though it is a part of it, but logically i think he can do some good in LA.

but if this report is the case, then i cant help but say too bad to KG’s loyalty. maybe one day minny is gonna be at the top and its one crazy fairy tale story about a warrior sticking with this team to the end. but talk to the countless number of talents that played extremely well, and never got a ring. his loyalty is hurting him, and he needs to open his eyes.

not just for the lakers and laker nation, but importantly for himself. good luck with whatever it is youre looking for dude…

The Timberwolves will LOSE, KG will NOT re-sign with the Timberwolves next summer, they will lose him and they get NOTHING. Glen Taylor is just blowin smoke, he has to trade Garnett this offseason, he has no choice, if he wants to better his team after KG is gone because he knows in his gut, that KG has to be dealt this offseason, or he will walk away and sign with another team (Lakers).

  • laker2421

If this is true I will never feel sorry for KG. Minny is and will be irrelevant at least for the next decade. Stop towing the company line Kevin and get your ass to LA where you will have a chance to win championships. This is horrible!

It is not over, but it seems KG still wants to be a loser.

  • Sepehr

I dont think a deal will happen now, maybe before the trade deadline next year. Mitch was too stupid to find a deal that would work. He had 3 years to get the pieces to trade for a star in the future and all we have is bynum and kwame’s 9M contract to trade for.

  • nba analyst

LAKobeforlife……Minnesota will get one thing if KG walks next summer…a nice big salary slot to go get another free agent with. That, in of itself is pretty valuable. Furthermore, if KG does opt out, he won’t make the same sort of jack in a new deal than the one he is getting out of because there will not be too many teams with that kind of room under the cap. I’ll bet that KG doesn’t opt out next year as long as the team is rebuilding.

Sepehr…..this wasn’t a case of Kupchak being stupid….this is a case of the Lakers not having good enough players to use in a trade for Garnett.

The reason why I say its Kupchuk’s fault is because he had 3 years to rebuild this team and at least acquire youngsters through a draft or trades and hopefully trade them in the future for garnett. The lakers right now have no real pieces to trade for and not even jerry west could trade for garnett right now with the garbage that we have to offer. If you look at the past 3 years the lakers have done nothing to improve, they have traded away good players (butler) and signed some horrible players (radmanovic, Brown, Cook).

  • Rpoc

Kevin Garnett is hypnotized. There’s no other plausible explanation folks. The Wolves hired a shrink to “help” him out from the losing–remember that video when he cried–and that’s where it all started. Every now and then he’ll slip from the hypnosis and say he doesn’t like it there but that’s only brief.

He needs Phil to snap him out of it but Taylor and McHale know everyone will know the truth of the matter if it’s the Zen Master releasing him from the hypnosis.

That’s why they won’t send him to L.A.

  • chris

dammn kg why the hell will u stay in minnesotta thats just plain stupid i rather kg goin to the celtics even though lakers is the best choice but if u wanna be a LOSER for the rest of ur career the so be it
