The Los Angeles Lakers today re-assigned Sun Yue to the team’s NBA Development League affiliate Los Angeles D-Fenders. Sun is the 35th assignment of the 2008-09 season.

Sun, a 6-9 guard from China, was first assigned to the D-Fenders on March 6, before being recalled to the Lakers on March 16. In four games with the D-Fenders Sun averaged 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.25 in 36.0 minutes.

Making his NBA debut on Dec. 7 against the Milwaukee Bucks, Sun has appeared in 10 games with the Lakers this season, totaling six points and two assists in 28 minutes.

Originally selected by the Lakers in the second round (40th overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft, Sun signed with the Lakers in August, 2008 after representing China as a member of the Men’s Olympic Basketball Team in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Sun will join the D-Fenders this afternoon and is expected to be available for today’s game at STAPLES Center against the Iowa Energy.

  • Smush Walton

Good, he should have been on the D league team at the first moment the D league season started and should be on the court as much as possible. He badly needs on court time to gain some confidence. He is not ready for the big league. As it is he is not even tearing up the D league.

Glad to see there is some common sense in our front office.
If Shannon Brown isn’t playing – that should have given them a pretty good clue as to how much Phil will be playing Sun.
