This is interesting… but this is also Sam Amico. However, that being said, he claims that both the Lakers & Clippers are going to heavily pursue Arenas. Should be an interesting summer…

ProBasketballNews: The source added, “That doesn’t mean the Wizards will let Arenas walk for nothing. But if the Lakers and Clippers push for him as much as expected, it’s likely to result in a sign-and-trade.”

If that’s the case, the Lakers may be willing to part with forward Lamar Odom and guard Derek Fisher, and/or a few bench players, according to the source (Odom’s contract expires at the end of next season).

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

I can tell you right now they’re going to keep Fisher until Fisher has the decision to leave. That being said, who could compete with this lineup:

    Arenas/Kobe/Odom/Gasol/Bynum

  • http://swishtheball.net caron butler

i should be on the lakers

  • http://letsgolakers.com Mr.81

[Comment ID #29718 Will Be Quoted Here]

Odom would be in the trade ;)

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

I’m not going to worry about it now. I’m focused on the post-season. But the Lakers will either prevail or get exposed for what they need come playoffs. Let it play out, let’s get healthy ;)

  • Michael_23

    Keep Fisher.

  • Michael_23

Trade LO for Arenas or Butler.

  • Lakers 24 7

LO is a power forward and if we trade him, then Gasol can take over, but i like Odom for his versatility, why dont we trade Mihm or sumthin

  • http://thelakersnation.com kb24 4life

i prefer odom and fish, plus fish is here for his daughter remember…in him we have a solid point guard, but if we get arenas, we will have to give a power forward and bench players…

  • eweezy

they should keep odom and fisher
    and trade the bench players

  • ECJ

They can keep Arenas if it means losing Fisher. NOT HAPPENING! As a die-hard Lakers fan I WOULD NOT support that trade. I think we’ve got an awesome young team that can compete in the West for many years to come. Add to that all of the aging good teams and we can be a dynasty team. We don’t need another “star” like Arenas. We need maybe one or two more defensive pieces and we’re good. Arenas is a shoot first kind of guy…not something that fits well in the triangle.

  • RD

trading away fisher would be downright WRONG! he’s the one that wanted to come to LA in the first place, for his daughter! no doubt arenas is an outstanding player, but i wouldnt trade if fish was going to be involved in it.

  • ECJ

That’s not gonna happen. Fish is too valuable on and off the court with regards to leadership and you need that on such a young team. He’s already 33 so we’ll keep him until he decides to retire and then we’ll sit him down next to Phil as an Assistant Coach. That’s my vote.

  • ECJ

Too bad we don’t have another Kwame to give away.

  • gugy

    can we unload:
    Luke
    Mihn
    Vlad
    Sasha
    for someone better?

  • megaloco10

arenas and kobe on the same team.. we need two basketball balls in a game..

  • DCLAKER

Corect RD,Why is Lakernation talkin’ about Arenas as if he’ll be here tomorrow,F@$% ARENAS and I’m a Wizards fan also(hence the name DCLAKER). Trading him for LO,HELL NO,y’all need to start looking at the BIGGER PICTURE and that would be ARENAS PLAYS NOOOOOOOO DEFENSE,the first game as a Laker y’all will want his head on a platter, trust me. He’s a hell of a shooter plus an All-Star,has greta range but when a Earl Boykins takes you to school then that doesn’t say much about you defensively. Eddie Jordan(Wizards coach)has begged Arenas to play better defensive but he just laughed it like A.I. on “PRATICE” but instead Arenas said that not his ‘strongsuite’,F@$& DAT’! The Clippers WILL end up getting him ’cause they have more to offer(Maggette,Livingston and Thorton etc.).

  • Ara the Armenian

Are you kidding me? I see us trying to trade LO for a signed Arenas.

However, how bad will it be for our franchise if we trade fisher away? Someone who solely came to Los Angeles for his kid.

  • kobe

r u guys like stupid or something…we’re talking about gilbert arenas rite here….this man avgerages 28,5,5….an prenenial allstar…..and all that we have to give up is the inconsistent odom and an aging fisher…wow that would be another gasol trade….

gilbert, kobe, luke, gasol, bynum will win 65 games easy….and dont bring up the defense part..(arenas and kobe in backcourt we’ll get like 6 steals a game just from those two)…(gasol will play his natural position)..(bynum will clean up the boards and get blocks)…plus we still have our young nucleus of farmar sasha ronny ariza…wow this would gurantee laker dynasty for like 10 straight yrs…

  • LakerHippo

I don’t think the Lakers will get Arenas. Bynum contract extension is coming up. The Lakers will be over the cap for years to come.

  • Phant0M

    NO… Arenas???

    please……………..
    defense………………

  • DCLAKER

Y’ALL NEED TO STOP RIGHT NOW WITH THIS ARENAS TRADE CRAP. LAKERNATION,WE ALL KNOW THIS GUY DOES NOT PLAY DEFENSE AND PLUS A COMBO OF KOBE/ARENAS DOESN’T EVEN SOUND RIGHT,AT ALL.

UNLESS Y’ALL LIVE IN DC LIKE ME AND KNOW AND HAVE SEEN HIM IN PERSON PLAY THEN YOU MIGHT BE A LITTLE SHORT SIGHTED.I KNOW WHY YOU WOULD WANT ARENAS BECAUSE HE’S A SCORING MACHINE AND ONE OF THE BEST BUT ASK ME THIS,WHERE’S THE DEFENSE.

ON THE SUBJECT OF GIVING UP DF/LO,F@$& NO! DF IS THE REASON WHY THIS TEAM IS WINNING,IT MAY NOT BE WITH POINTS EVERY GAME BUT HIS PRESENCE ALONE IS INFECTUOUS,CAN ARENAS BRING THAT,HE’S A FUN GUY BUT NO. LAKERS DO THIS TRADE IN THE OFF-SEASON AND MARK MY WORDS,KOBE WILL BE IN THE EAST NEXT SEASON.

ALL LAKERS NEED TO DO IS SIGN A FREE AGENT OR “IF” YOU TRADE LO GET EITHER CARON BUTLER(OR JAMINSON),COREY MAGGETTE,SHAWN MARION OR JOSH SMITH,NO F@!&IN ARENAS. LET’S BE SMART,LO FOR ARENAS IS NOT A SMART TRADE BECAUSE OF LO IS WAY TO VERSATILE,WHERE ARENAS IS JUST A SHOOTER,YOUR GIVING LENGTH,SIZE,VERSITILTY,HELLUVA REBOUNDER AND MORE,CAN ARENAS DO ANY OF THESE THINGS,PLEASE ANSWER ME,I’M READY TO DEBATE THIS ONE!!!

  • 187 ON BOSTON

    PISS MIHM, FLUKE WALTON, RADMANAVICH
    FOR AGENT- 0

    OR
    PISS MIHM, FLUKE WALTON FOR
    CHARLES BARKLEY

  • ricky

as good as it sounds pairing up kobe and arenas in the backcourt, i think its too much because you would also have bynum and gasol in the front court. it will be too overwhelming in my opinion. i prefer we sign a player like corey maggette. i think that lamar is too valuable to this team because he can rebound like crazy and start the fastbreak as well as make the sweet passes.

if we can keep this team intact for next season and sign another player such as maggette, he is a free agent next summer i believe, then it will really shore up our bench with instant offense. we dont have a really good sixth man that can make a major offensive impact, so maggette will be a great fit for the lakers.

    bynum, mihm
    gasol, turiaf, radmanovic
    odom, ariza, walton
    kobe, maggette, vujacic
    fisher, farmar

i would assume the lakers waive mbenga and karl or stick them in the d-league. we can also use vujacic at the point guard if need be. but this would be a very potent team that no one wants to face on any given day for sure. GO LAKERS!

  • MILO

I hope he goes to the Clippers because Lakers dont need conflict between Kobe and that guy.To be quite honest i hate the sh!it out of his arrogant ass…

  • ricky

    DCLAKER:

you know what the heck you are talking about and i totally agree with you man! the list of players you listed are great, but like me, i think maggette is probably the best fit of all those forwards because he is a great offensive player and a very good defensive player as well. he is also a good freethrow shooter too. he would really give us a good bench leader and allow kobe to rest more. maggette along with ariza off the bench is a hell of a guard/forward combo.

  • MILO

[Comment ID #29765 Will Be Quoted Here]

please keep Mihm out of this im hoping he get’s bought out so the Lakers can get a real center to back up Bynum not a fragile p-o-s (career is over) the Lakers need to realize that and go after someone else…

  • erickson

    bad trade. id say

  • DCLAKER

    Ricky,AMEN BROTHER,AMEN!

  • Remy

    on kobe’s comment
…arenas may be an all star b/c of him averaging 28 points per game, but defense defense DEFENSE wins game and championships (yes i’m talking about defense…read further down to see my point)…we don’t need another scorer to add more points to the score…why you think suns can win a championship with their high scoring offense????…c’mon…

fisher also provides that stable leadership even when he’s aging
giving up lamar for arenas…we’re giving up size even though he is inconsistent

winning 65 games means nothing without a championship…look at the mavs..regardless of the 67..they lost to the warriors in the first round b/c they didn’t know how to play defense against a running team like the warriors…again…defense wins it all

besides, you don’t even need 65 games to win a championships…look at the 94-95 rockets…they only had 47 wins, beat the spurs whom had 62 wins that year and beat orlando with a healthy shaq who had 57 wins

    more on defense…
we talk about lamar’s inconsistent offense…arenas has inconsistent defense…even though if he and kobe can get us 6 steals…the man doesn’t play defense period

gasol, when bynum return is going to play his natural position anyways

and kobe is more comfortable playing off guard..remember how high a turnover he averages during this year’s preseason b/c he was playing point…and farmar may be able to play at point, but he’s def. not gonna start when arenas comes, and he’s def. not gonna be a mentor to him either and def. arenas is not gonna play point cuz he can’t

if kobe’s shooting distracts the offense…how you think adding a second “only shoot” type of player does to the movement of the triangle?

  • lalakerfan

Arenas will opt out. But do we have enough cap space to sign him?

No trade with Fisher will go down. Some of you forgot he came here for his Daughter’s health care. Lakers will not trade him.

Odom shouldn’t be traded. He’s been doing wonders at the 3 since Gasol is in. He is not a PF like one of you have mentioned. He’s a natural small forward. The Wizards have that in Caron Butler.

The most logical way of getting Arenas if at all, is to sign him over the summer. Which brings me back to my original question, will we have enough cap space to sign him? Most likely, no. And if the Clippers change their uniform (because it’s one of the most bland in the NBA), then maybe Arenas will sign with the Clips pending the decision of Brand and what they do with Maggette. Imagine Arenas, Mobley, Maggette, Brand, Kaman with Thornton off the bench. THe Clippers were successful in 2005-2006 because of strong leadership from a point guard position. I think Arenas will provide that leadership/star power to lead this group. Clippers will be a better fit for Arenas. There will most likely be a power struggle between Kobe and Arenas.

  • jay

there is no way i want to trade fisher away. he is kinda the reason why Kobe has calmed down so much after last summer. So keep fisher, i think ODOM is finally comin around and he is finally loving basketball again. so get rid of vlad mimh sasha coby mbenga. thats all we need to do we dont need 1 player. we need specialist. maybe be defensively, 3pt shooting and again defense minded players.

  • Michael_23

Lakers can get Gilbert if he signs to a mid-level exception. Is Jason Kidd a free agent (or can he opt out?) after this season too?

  • http://bustedquad.com/forum Caleb

Despite the BS that comes out of Arenas’ mouth, he would not sign a mid level. A chance at a huge contract will never come again, he would not waste this oppurtunity and lose millions.

  • reality_check

probasketballnews.com seems to like to just make up rumors for the sole purpose of drawing traffic and doubling his readership to 28 people. It’s just made-up nonsense. Every team in the league would pursue gilbert arenas if he was a free agent, but how would anyone actually get him?

  • DCLAKER

Let me say this,if where talkin’ about Arenas coming to LA then Mitch(The King of LA)needs to get Gerald Green, they’re the same explosive type player,at least GG wants to improve and can develope better with The Lakers training staff,’cause we all know the other teams he was at(except The Rockets, who didn’t need a SG/SF)didn’t have the trainers that The Lakers have.I feel if you get this guy in about 2 to 4 yrs. you get another all- star. Under the tutelage of KB and they sign in the off season someone like….C.Maggette(I’m sold on this guy),LAKERS WILL RULE even when Kobe retires(same for Pau,LO and DF).GG is still drawing comparisons to T-MAC and rightfully so,even from Mcgrady himself, now that’s saying alot. MAGGETTEANDGGWANTTOBELAKERS,NOARENAS.com,Please Mitch don’t bring Arenas to LA,LAKERNATION IS BETTER OFF!!!

  • lakerz

i can han handle a odom luke and fillers for Arenas trade. (no fish)
    but a line up of
    PG.Arenas
    SG.Kobe
    SF.Ariza?
    PF.Gasol
    C.Bynum
sounds unreal to me, is it possible to have so many great players in one team?

  • kPoAbUe

i would not do this trade at all. i don’t give a crap. When pau came lo starting to averaging 20-16-6 and arenas cant he could do 25-5-5. wats the point plus we have fisher great on and off the court player. he is the won we are winning beacuse of his attitude. in the off season i would sign a free agent like ben gorden or loul deng cause luke sucks.
    with the lineup of

    dfish/farmar
    kobe/sasha/coby
    lo/ariza
    pau/deng/vlad
    bymun/turiaf/mihm/mbenga

thats like 7 championships in a row.

  • e

[Comment ID #29722 Will Be Quoted Here]

arena’s is a free agent…we wouldnt have to trade

  • Geloman

Sorry. Not gonna happen. The organization, management and the city of LA loves Fish. They will not trade him away. That’s downright betrayal and wrong. He’s the reason why there’s stability on the team right now. He’s a leader and a warrior and he’s loved LA since he was drafted in 96. The city of LA even honored him and gave him Derek Fisher Day.

Yeah we trade away half our bench for a shooting guard with a bum knee and where will we get our bench points, the Laker girls? The bench is one of the main reasons why the Lakers have been so successful this season. The Laker team we have here, with the exception of Gasol have been together for the last 3 years or so. They’ve developed and gelled together, and we’re gonna throw all that away for another big ego who takes 30+ shots a game.

Not gonna happen. Talent alone will not win championships. Chemistry, defense (which Arenas does not play) and great bench play wins championships.

I think the team will pursue Arenas is Kobe decides to opt out. That’s the only way they would do it. The team is already over the salary cap, and they’re going to go even way beyond with Arenas on board.

  • Phant0M

    Well Put..^^^^^^

Why is this even on the website??

  • Tim

stupid trade..if we signed him, ok fine, but no trading for him

  • T-Dub

Is it just me or does it seem like we have too many soft a s s europeans this team. Sasha, Vlad, Pau, Ronny, Luke…I think we need some inner-city toughness on this team next year. Some muscle! We have enough scoring!

  • DCLAKER

Gerald Wallace would be a excellent choice also in the off season.

Imagine the EXTRA length this team would have if GW was a Laker and I forgot about this guy(how stupid of me,that’s why Mitch gets paid and I don’t). LO/AB/PG and you add GW to this MONSTA front court(LAKEZILLA,REMEMBER THAT SH&*),OMG,3 IN A ROW. What does LAKERNATION THINK(I favor Maggette and Josh Smith).

  • Ko-Pau19

i have a feeling the Clips will get him though. Im a die hard lakers fan, and i dont think we need Arenas! Besides Fisher will always be the heart and soul of this team so its a lock he’ll retire a laker. i just have this feeling however that Arenas will be a Clipper next year. Don’t forget he’s a Cali boy and what more of a reason to come here to try to take Kobe’s town away from him. Just a feeling i have.

  • DCLAKER

Well forget my last comment ’cause this Gerald won’t be coming to Lakers no time soon(he’s locked at Charlotte, sorry). The “other” Gerald(Green) is still out there,I don’t care what his IQ is(can’t be that bad, sometimes that falls on your coaching staff{Minn./Boston’05-06})this kid can flat out BALL! Sign to a 10 day(wouldn’t hurt) and let him showcase his skills or wait ’til summer league(my choice).

I want Corey Maggette or Josh Smith as a Laker next season,it just has to happen.

  • getgasol

    No more trades!

The current squad is near perfect. Why screw with good chemistry?

And if we are to make any moves, it should be for someone who has a pass-first mentality (not Arenas) and is all about the defense (also not Arenas).

We don’t need a “star” player in every damn position!

  • willow

He DC if you’re a DC resident and has seen him play then I’ll take your word for it. I think you have the Lakers’ best interests at heart. I’m not too familiar with Agent 0′s game but as far as I know he’s a scorer who shoots 30+ shots per game and doesn’t have a good shooting percentage. I was a big LO hater until the Gasol trade. After that I have rescinded my LO bashing and admitted that he’s a key player to our championship run. I’ll take your word for it and ixnay on the Arenas trade-ay.

  • willow

I definitely agree with you in signing Maggette next year but we have to extend Bynum and Gasol and then what will we do with LO with his contract? Corey will want more than what he’s making now. I don’t think he’ll settle. Kobe and Corey play the same position. He’s already stated numerous times that he wants to start. It’s gonna be tough signing him. Trust me, whenever I drop off packages at his house and he’s home, I’m always whispering into his ear to walk down the hall from the Clippers locker room to the Lakers locker room and he just laughs at me.

Hey LeBron wants out too R we gonna try to get Arenas or Labron?

  • thisbedo

this could really hurt our team i dont think gilbert and kobe can work together agent zero already thinks too much of himself and trading dfish away is down right wrong because he’ll jst ask to be bought out and retire. If we were to acquire gilbert better believe if we dont give up fisher we would have to give up farmar, sasha and mihm(which i dont really mind) which is a big no no as far as our future goes… and gilbert has the health of a 60 year old vet

  • DCLAKER
