Shaq on Bynum: “Won’t Dare Play Me One-on-One”

Shaquille O’Neal didn’t necessarily just go after Andrew Bynum, but he did comment on the possibility of facing two of the best big men in the league, in this years NBA playoffs.

O’Neal was asked by ESPN’s Marc Stein, if he was looking forward to going up against guys like Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum in the playoffs.

O’Neal: Excuse me? Don’t ask me a question like that.

Marc Stein: But that’s what people want to know. Those guys are playing so well and everyone wants to see if you can match up with them one-on-one.

O’Neal: First of all, they won’t dare play me one-on-one, even at the tender age of 39. And you know what? Playin’ those teams, it ain’t gonna be about the [center] matchup, so I don’t really worry about that.

Shaq turned 39 years old in March, and has only appeared in 36 games this season for the Celtics. According to a team source, Shaq is scheduled to return April 1st, in time to be ready for the playoffs.

Shaq’s an old grumpy man now

  • Jsmoove

    Shut up, Fatty.

  • BeYoung

He took a shot a Dwight more so than Bynum, The Orlando offense flows thru Dwight, are offense doesn’t necessarily go thru Drew. Either way this Old hag needs to be quiet and play some games before opening his mouth.

i hope shaq gets the healthiest he’s ever been for the playoffs so it can be that much better when we beat him and his celquits in the finals

  • Richard

Reminds me of how Shaq deflected the question regarding Kobe having more rings than him. He said that he doesn’t compare himself to “little guys” only centers like Russell. Dwight would eat him up one-on-one right now and so would Andrew. All Shaq can do is sit on them with his fat ass.

  • LC09

    them’s fightin words shaq!!! leggo!!!

  • sopi

first of all shaq is one of the best center of all time, and dont forget he helped lakers won 3 champs when kobe wasnt that great. secondly why are you asking a 39 years old fat man to match up with some 20ish all star centers? how bout ask howard and bynum to play some young all star centers when they reach age of 39? i strongly doubt that bynum can play at all when hes 39. This is one of the dumbest question i have heard this year so far .

and we all know that when shaq is in his prime, theres really no comparison between him and howard nor bynum.

    • KW

Uh, Kobe wasn’t that great? Even when Shaq was a Laker, when the game came down to the final seconds, it was Shaq that Phil went to…it was Kobe.

Shaq was great for L.A., but remember that Kobe was a perennial All-Star and All-Pro during that time. Shaq wins NOTHING without Kobe.

      • NoDefense

Youtube, has alot of videos of kobe that would disagree with you sopi.

      • Dragon

Yeah and your comparing a center and a guard different position and we are talking about bynum and shaq here this has nothing to do with Kobe. Plus Shaq know’s he probably can’t play as well as he use to but his comments is to make him look good because he don’t want to back down he’s a competitor what people expect him to say I’m old and I can’t play no more or something. He still want to protect his greatness when he was in his prime just like anyone would.

    • trippleoccho

      Koe wasn’t that great? WTF?

    • SHOWTIME4EVA

      kobe was always great.

    • cjm

i guess you like the taste of shaq’s salty balls, the way you are giving them a good tongue washing

  • David M.

    Sopi literally said it best

  • LANative

That bastard has no right to talk after the way he left us. He knows he made the biggest mistake of his life when he left us.

  • Anna

Oh please…The only reason Andrew Bynum wouldn’t dare play Shaq one-on-one is because the only way that fool could stop Drew would be to sit on him, and that’ll just slow the game down =)

  • kanon_

C’mon, first of all…the Celtics are not going to play the Finals!!!, so wait for that matchup next year Marc Stein..and let see if Shaq is still playing hehehe.

  • LakerMarc

Shaq is an old cross eyed ble ble ble Cosby Kids Reject. Join the gang Fat Albert.

  • TheLAKERSwon09

    What a big dumb bafoon

  • Levi

    Shaq’s now a “has-been”

  • Tyler

Kwame Brown would beat shaq one on one at this stage of His career.

  • rondo

Shaq(The Geezer) you need to shut the fuck up.You can’t stay on the court you are washed up! You had your day now you are a old geezer with a attitude.

  • sam

those are some tough words shaq, but you have aged up now. im afraid the diesel has run out

  • poloman77

Bynum will destroy Fatboy Shaqueer O’meal and the Celdicks.

  • lakerman34

I don’t know why everyone’s hating on the guy that 8 years ago they all loved. This guy led our team to 3 championships! Show some respect.

No, he wouldn’t beat Bynum or Howard 1 on 1, but he’s a competitive guy. Shaq’s size will allow him to matchup well against both of them.
