Sam Smith – nuff said – drops in another rumor. Also would a lineup of Odom/Bynum/Gasol/Kobe/Fish > Butler/Bynum/Gasol/Kobe/Fish? Debate it… Once again, Sam Smith…

Chicago Tribune: The Lakers may not be done tinkering with their roster.

The word is they don’t believe Odom can be that ultimate small forward to defend the wing and shoot from distance along the front line when Andrew Bynum returns.

The Lakers are said to be looking hard for a more traditional small forward with shooting range. Perhaps the Wizards’ Caron Butler, who was injured and couldn’t play in Sunday’s All-Star Game.

  • Phant0M

If kobe actully goes thru w. the surgery..

    I’d do it

Yes im going back on my rant about NO MORE TRADES..

but if kobes does have surgery we need butler/gasol

    If kobe doesn’t..

    save it for next season

  • kaynam24

stupid reporters n media always talks about bullshit n make things up just so they have something to say or report… this is completely false..

  • Phant0M

    How do you know?

  • lakerz

WTF… i dont understand why the wizards would take odom for a true allstar

and the article never said the teams were talking, so i think this is false

    I agree with you Phant0M …
I’m all in favor of that trade. Lamar isn’t a championship caliber player.
    What do you guys think??

  • mfoznot

NO!!!! I like Lamar now. He’s great in the 3 spot and have you looked at his rebounding lately. With Gasol in the lineup he’s key! Keep it as it is. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The Lakers are tits right now.

  • Phant0M

I said if kobe gets surgery we should do it.

Lamar will be forced to play 2nd option.

Plus caron knows some triangle since he was a laker about 3 Seasons

Lamar for caron is another steal,
yes only problem is rebounding will deplete+ our size.

    But we Bynum.Gasol.Butler.Kobe.Fisher
    Thats a niceee lineup.

Only if kobe decides to get surgery then i’d do this.

aite man true media does make up stuff but is this guy Sam Smith reliable LD2K if u can plz put some history of Sam Smith of which rumors he said where true and if this is indeed true U MUST I REPEAT MUST DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

  • Edward

I don’t know, I know Caron is great, but Odom is good too. Caron is a player that is becoming injury prone, and Odom is warming up to his 4th option position on the team. He is finishing baskets he never used to, and is doing pretty well out there. He is averaging almost a triple double for every game. But if this is true, I can’t see this hurting or helping the team that much, either way, it’d be good. We’d gain an all star small forward.

  • magicbalala245

this trade can’t even work straight up people look here wiz must throw in some fillers to make this work
1st link here it can’t work str8 up

2nd link shows what filler that is mostly what lakers will ask for as an expiring contract as all smart GM’s do or atlest a player with a cheap contract

  • earl

Caron doesn’t know the triangle he didn’t play here when Phil was the coach he played for Rudy T. and Frank Hamblen but of course i would do the trade in a second but if Washing did that they’d be retarded

  • Phant0M

    Oh yeah!!!!!^

But i’d rest the decison if kobe did the surgery or not

  • Phant0M

    yeahhhh i know i knoww,
    my bad…

I just forgot that one year phil took a vacation

I dont think this will go down….

  • Devan

why would the lakers even think about this…if the wizards are stupid enough to offer that. we should take it in a heartbeat…we would be even more unstoppable then we already kobe is great friends with butler…come on..have u guys been watching the transformation of butler and the decline of odom..even though hes had a few good games down the stretch

  • Michael_23

Whether this article is true or not, we don’t need another offensive threat on the floor assuming that Kobe stays. Even if Odom does not score great in some games, he is an excellent rebounder and good 3rd scoring option.

If Odom’s D doesn’t work out, we have Trevor Ariza that can keep up with defending the 1,2, and 3 position. Remember he did keep Iverson in check in Denver and we can’t forget him stuffing the ball in front of Grant Hill.

  • Michael_23

oh btw, Sam Smith from the chicago tribune = unreliable source

so.. all of a sudden.. because you were TOTALLY incorrect in regards to your “plus” statement, you now say “i don’t think this will go down” because.. you were wrong about 1 thing? NO WAY! you were wrong about more than 1 thing, k? Lamar WILL NOT be forced to play the 2nd option! We have THE MACHINE Sasha Vujacic, who is TOTALLY CONFIDENT in his quick high percentage outside jumpers! ;)
Lamar Odom is MORE valuable to the Lakers team than Caron Butler at this point in the season! How is Lamar for Caron “another steal”~?!? Are you STUPID? Really, ARE YOU? Do you know what is meant by “another steal”~?!? We traded Kwame, KWAME BROWN, Mr. Cake Tosser for Pau Gasol! THAT was a steal, but how in the HELL do YOU compare Kwame with Lamar in reference to gaining Pau versus Caron? You need to REALLY STOP making your *wannabe Sam Smith* Phant0m bull$hit around here, k?
Anyhow, have a nice week & tell your mum Billy forgives her for bringing you into this world! :-D

lets make this trade and over the summer to replace lamar we can get shawn Marion, also because he will be a 3 point threat we can trade some of our 3 point shooters, sasha, radmanovic, Luke and mihm to detroit for rip hamilton

    Lamar for Butler
    LW4/SV18/VR10/CM31 for richard hamilton
sign artest and marion as free agents

    PG Fish/Farmar
    SG Kobe/Hamilton/Coby
    SF Artest/Ariza
    PF Marion/Ronny
    C Bynum/Pau/Mbenga

lamar for caron, is a steal…

    Wtf r u on..

I said rebounds and our size would go down,
but if u want this season to contine and KB does surgery

decling butler wouldnt be a wise choice.

so sit down and stop with these novels. insolence…

  • Tim

    uh no Kopau Bydom

we dont need anymore trades this season, during the offseason, strengthen the bench with our MLE and plus sign Juan Carlos Navarro to the league minimum to add even more chemistry (Navarro and Gasol plays GREAT together) we’ll be fine

oh and on the situation with Kobe getting surgery? if he does get surgery then Sasha “The Machine” Vujacic is here!!! 6 weeks with Vujacic at the starting SG spot wont be bad

  • Tim

oh yeah, buyout Mihm’s contract, get rid of Coby and resign: Vujacic, Turiaf, Ariza should choose to stay another year, and Mbenga,

  • domz

Hmm..this trade looks good…But Im contented with Odom in the line-up..This is a good trade if Kobe changes his mind to have his pinky healed..

  • domz

Hey look…Kidd’s deal is back on track…Do u guys want this to happen???

  • HiYo2o

Lamar for Caron may sound like a good idea, but if you really think about it. It’s not really gonna work out that great. We already have enough offensive threats on the team. Lamar is giving us boards night in and night out and as of late his offensive ability is great. Remember we are talking about a 4th option. Do you actually believe Caron is going to be fine with being a 4th option when he really is an All-Star caliber player. The only deal I see that makes some kind of sense maybe at the end of the season is probably Ron Artest but I would probably still stick with Odom because he is a good fit in the Lakers offense because he is a roll player not one that demands the ball. We are gonna have enough All-Star players on our team with Kobe, Pau, and Bynum. What we need are ROLE players.

  • rei24

    we dont need trades amp

  • Lakers

Caron a better player but Lamar is a BETTER TEAM PLAYER

  • magicbalala245

guy this is the only way this trade can go down i think in my opinion

cause as u c da link below me lamar can’t be dealt str8 up for butler

  • magicbalala245

and myab sam smith is legit he called a mavs and nets deal last year in dec 18 2007 when this article on laker nation got posted check it out

  • Jrich

Sam Smith is butt buddies with Ric Puker. This is a BS story. I’ll take Mike Miller before I take back Caron Butler. Why add another injured player in Caron Butler to our roster?

  • Jack Nicholas

Wont happen, i talked to jerry and he said he likes odom as a small forward…

look forward to phil starting to prepare both gasol and odom in their natural position by starting mbenga….

easy transition when bynum comes back.

  • AnthonY MusiQ

    Lamar, Lakers, Champions!!!

  • ab4sure

Yes Get him. We need him to match up with pierce in the Finals along with Melo and others.. This will make us a better defensive team and Defense wins ships.

  • kobe-wan kenobi

hey this trade is NOT good!
u guys dont understand that w kobe and pow we do not need at all anyone who wants to score or keep the ball.
we just need a defensive presence or rebounder
    LO is a great reb
i trade him only for a Defensive BEAST (artest or similar) otherwise he is perfect as our 4th option… he does not wanna shoot, just do the hidden work that caron would not do
w kobe we need defensive players or players that do not wanna be on the spotlight like odom

  • JayC22

Forget Butler, let’s get our natural 3 back by trading for DEVAN GEORGE!! hehe

  • LakersFirst (Change) (Close)

If this story is true, which I don’t think it is, why would Washington want to trade Caron Butler away? He’s one of their better players and has truly stepped up since Arenas has been down. The Washington big 3 is Arenas, Butler and Jamison.

I can see why the Lakers would want Butler. He’s a good player and makes less than LO does per year. Butler is set to make $8.2M this year, $8.9M next year, $9.7M and the $10.5M the next 2 years after that. LO is set to make $14.5M next year, so the Lakers wouldn’t mind getting rid of LO because that would lower next years payroll to $5.5M, which they could use some of that to give to Turiaf, but I don’t see why the Wizards would want to give up Butler.

  • iLakers

i wouldn’t trade LO. he’s key to our offense when Kobe is on bench.

our lineup is perfect, but these injuries are really messing things up.

    how is Pau’s sore back?

idk…having kobe playing hurt is gonna cause some trouble down the road, especially in the playoffs. but i still wouldn’t trade caron for LO, simply because of LO’s intangibles. And now with Pau in the lineup, he seems to be playing with a higher efficiency (someone check the stats for me).

Fact is LO fits perfect in our system (35-17/3rd in the west)…would Caron? i don’t think so (my opinion).

  • ab4sure

Odom for Butler and Daniels. Better defense. Defense wins ships.

  • c

I don’t like this trade at all.
First, off although Lamar may not be the best at the triangle, he knows it and having to integrate butler into it (again) this late in the season would be risky.
More importantly however, I finally think Lamar has found his place on the squad now that Pau is here cuz the past few games he’s been a tremendous passer. I still wouldn’t trade him for Artest’s defense just because Lamar is a good passer and rebounder and because we already have a lock down small forward in ariza.

  • kobe-wan kenobi

i do not agree with you! Caron is not much better than lo as a defender, and lo is a beast in rebounds which caron is not!
So i think for us would be negative, plus caron wants to shoot and w pau and kobe too many that wanna have the ball in ther hands.
    Kobe needs the ball!

  • erickson

[Comment ID #26403 Will Be Quoted Here]

your crazy lamar is great. its just he has bad days good days.

  • Mr. Juan / Your Warlock

The one guy that would be a good trade for both teams would be Lamar for Shawn Marion

  • Edward

Hey, Lamar doesn’t need to be championship caliber… he just needs to be good. In our 3 ships we got with the Lakers… Kobe, Fish, Shaq, and Horry were the only ones that were championship caliber. The rest (Fox and Shaw) were just good. I can see this team as a more solid one than the one of championships past. So I think our team is good as it is. None of these trades sound bad, but I don’t think any of them would make us any better or any worse… just different. If one of the trades did make us better or worse, it’d be in the smallest bit, that the only thing that would matter is the pay difference.

  • lakersfan17

    This is Sam Smith….Enough said

    It’s bull.

  • mikedeezy2k8

man leave laamr alone he fits perfect for this team.

  • somelakerfan1

if this trade happens kobe will get surgery.

  • WaZZuP

I know we all love Lamar but you gotta look at stats. Butler has shown he can score and get 7+ rebounds a game. Lamar has only shown us consistent rebounding. He doesn’t score consistently, nor does he distribute the ball. I think he is way too overrated for being the next Kevin Garnett. Also, there is a couple reasons why this might work. First is that Kobe and Caron are best friends. Second is that Wizards aren’t having much success and they might want Lamar to help out Arenas. But it probably won’t work because Caron is an All-Star player and is doing his best right now and shouldn’t be traded at all. If we were going to trade Lamar I’d say do Lamar and Luke for Maggette. I don’t know if that trade will work or not but I think Maggette will make this team a lot better.

  • ab4sure

[Comment ID #26463 Will Be Quoted Here]

After getting Gasol and with Bynum coming back LO can be trade bait. Since LO can’t really shoot from the outside, he will not work with Gasol and Bynum as Caron would. Caron is a SF who would fit in great with the lakers. He also can match well with guys like Josh Howard, Melo, and Pierce, etc… LO disappears against these players and is too timid in crunch time. Plus Caron is a much better defender than LO… LO is a great pick-up game player but PO games aren’t played liked like that. LO i believe will go, don’t know if it will be real soon or in the summer but a LO for Caron and Daniels will help fill two holes. Daniels is a big guard who can defend and who has experience. LO would thrive much better in the Washington system.

    Im torn between this.

If kobe does get the surgery, and this
trade is real, id definitely pull the trigger on this trade.

  • leo

caron for lamar would be great

LAKERFIRST I gonna straight from a guy who has lived and breathed Wahington,DC sports since birth as to why the Wizards would do this trade in heartbeat,MJ. Remember when we had one the best,if not THE BEST player to EVER hold a basketball and you see what happen to him, didn’t you? Chris Webber is another one(I think Wiz fans can really thank Juwan Howard for that)and what Rasheed Wallace,Ben Wallace and Richard Hamilton(MJ kinda saved RIP to be honest). They gave Juwan Howard toooo much money and he played like some CRAP the following season, shall I go on? I could’ve really went down the line on that one but I think you get the drift,THE WIZARDS FO IS KINDA STUPID AND WILL NEVER GET A CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN BECAUSE THEY ARE MORE ABOUT MONEY AND NOT ABOUT WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS,POINT BLANK. The only person I would feel for is Eddie Jordan because him and Caron have good relationship and Jamison(same deal),plus CB PLAYS EXCELLENT DEFENSE AND I WOULD SAY HIS D IS AS GOOD AS KOBE’S(I’VE SEEN ALL THE GAMES SO I KNOW)BUT NOT BETTER.

  • Phant0M
  • miguel

If Kobe got the surgery lets try to get Caron. 3 team Deal. Miami lakers And Washington.

  • Lakers2410

Never in my life would I ever trade a guy that can average a triple-double every single night and knows an offense that my team runs that not much players even know a tiny bit about since it’s such a tough offense to learn, to be traded for an All-Star SF that doesn’t know all that much about the offense! I’d never do this trade, and neither should the Lakers as they’d have their offense up in a tangle! Sure, Gasol learned the Triangle pretty quick, but that’s because (like PJ said) the role of the offense that Gasol has is the easiest to learn, and don’t forget that Gasol has more wisdom than Caron! Sure, I’d love to get Caron had he be able to know the Triangle fast enough before the playoffs, but I highly doubt that he’ll know it enough to do much damage as a Laker again! Also, he’ll probably end up being a 3rd or 4th option and not be able to help the Lakers in assists and rebounds as much as L-O can! L-O has a better chance at playing better in his role in the Triangle than Caron would in his role! So for the last time guys…STOP DISSING AND TALKING ABOUT BETTER PLAYERS THAN ODOM TO TRADE FOR HIM!

  • ab4sure

[Comment ID #26721 Will Be Quoted Here]

How many triple doubles does he get??? Can he get them yes.. does he NO. LO still gets confused on the triangle and coaches have complained that he is too stagnant and sits on the perimeter in the offense. The SF experiment is over… he doesn’t play SF well and is more suited for the PF spot and that is where Gasol will play when bynum comes back. Caron played the tri the last half of the season when Rudy T quit. So LO is LO… no ones dissing his skills but they don’t fit the SF position. LO will be gone sooner or later.

  • LakersFirst (Change) (Close)

[Comment ID #26724 Will Be Quoted Here]

Regardless, I don’t see the Lakers trading LO this season (maybe in the offseason). With all the Laker injuries, LO’s flexibility to play the 4, the 3 or even the 2 will come in handy.

Is LO inconsistent? Yes. But, the fact that he can plan multiple positions is valuable, especially on a team that gets a lot of injuries.
