Ron Artest to sport #37 in Purple and Gold?

A few members from our Forums have been debating what number Ron should wear as a Lakers. Well put those thoughts to rest, it looks like he might sport the #37 and here’s why…

Farnham: We’ve heard you’re going to wear #37 here in L.A., and that it might have something to do with Michael Jackson, how does that all fit in?

Artest: I was trying to figure out a number, I was talking to my wife and kids. I was on my twitter, MySpace, and Facebook and asking everybody to help me pick a number. On my MySpace, somebody named Trish T he Dish came up with the #37 and said that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was 37 weeks at number one of all time. 23 I was going to choose, it was available, it’s a great number but, I thought (with) that 37 and “Thriller”, I can make that a new great number. I think more kids should start getting the #37 for a great human being, since Michael loved all people. I think I’m representing greatness in wearing #37.

    What are your thoughts? Sound-off!

    • K20

man i reallywished he wouldhave stuck with 23!!!!
that would have been sikk!! 23 and 24!!!

    • Cookie Monster

Amazing! 37 is Cookie’s favorite number! Really! Not 8 or 23 or 24. Cookie like numbers 2 and 37, those are his favorite, and now Ron Ron will be Cookie’s friend!

    • Fred A.

I think this would be a great format:

      Fisher/Farmer/Brown
      Bryant/Vujavic/Yue
      Artest/Walton/Morrison
      Odom/Gasol/Elonu
      Powell/Bynum/Mabenga

      What you think? :)

    • willow

Only Ron Ron can come up with this bullshyt lol. Doesn’t matter what number he wears as long as he represents that Purple and Gold with pride. You’re playing for the name in front of the jersey now, Ron…not the back.

    • http://www.thelakersnation.com 09 champs!

he can wear 0 or 185… i just cant wait to watch him play with the lakers !!

anyways its a good reason why he will wear 37.

    • AY24

    • Andrew

I love it. 37. One for every screw Ron Ron is missing. Ron will love L.A. and L.A. will love Ron. Between Manny and Ron we’re all sold out of crazy.

who said Elonu was gonna make the team? and why is Powell starting in place of Bynum? and why is Yue a 3rd string 2 guard?

Elonu isn’t going to make the finalized roster, Sun Yue will most likely be released unless he has a stellar national team performance and Bynum will be starting instead of Powell..

regarding no. 37, I like it but at the same time I don’t like it.. I guess I naturally don’t like double digit odd numbers..

He also puts PAU as a backup?!?

    • Anthony MusiQ

I think #52 would be hot… it would be a great Lakers campaign…

      Lakers BASKETBALL: (24) hours a day, (7) days a week, ((((52)))) weeks a year = (16)X CHAMPIONS!!!

If you can’t match the numbers or make this make sense.. go root for someone else… GO LAKERS!!!

    • morrningwood

bring back rodmans number 73! forget 37.

    • Dan Andreas

I like it. 37 will look sick on Ron. Because it’s another Rodman parallel:

Rodman wore number 10 with the Pistons and Spurs. He wore number 91 with the Bulls (9+1=10). Ron wore this number with the Pacers for a while.

Rodman also played one season for the Lakers (in case you were either too young or it was simply so forgettable you’ve erased it from your mind). In that season, Rodman wore number 73 (7+3=10).
      http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~ws161900/goofystuff/lakers/rodman3.jpg

Rodman 73 / Artest 37. Hmmmm… Hopefully things work out better this time…

    • xfellerx

going to be sick. better than any number higher than 40

    • PurpsNGold

Great way to choose a number.. MJ is sick.. MJ is better than MJ23… Plus 37 is a prime number its unique and odd just like Artest..

    • Andrew

    • nick

Has long has he can thrill us to another championship than go for it! I still can’t believe we got this guy cheap. I can’t wait to see him get a ring next year and next year and next year! All we need is ODOM and this is one scary team that will steam roll to a championship next year. Cant wait to see him go up and high five Jack Nicholson and maybe he could do the shining 2 with Jack, they are both a little crazy in a good way. Props to MITCH for getting him and PHIL coming back to teach this guy some ZEN!!!

    • Pig Williams

He better stick with that 37 because if he chooses 23, World Champion Laker Mitch Richmond will be mad at him.

I still say he should have stuck with number 3 so Ariza definitly wouldnt have been missed but i guess number 37 is a good reason and number 23 i never even though but go for it!

    • mastarockafella

I thought it’s a great number celebrating one of the greatest artist of all time. Let’s call him ‘Thriller’ Thrilla in LA!

Thats a fucn coincidence, I was just gonna make a comment about how 52 is a sicc number. I just changed my number recently in my local league from 11 to 52 for entirely different and random reasons. Thats a trip.

Anyway artest can wear whatever he wants, its just a number. How he came up with it was just too funny.

Hey AY24 dont disrespect Michael Jackson like that, Greatest Entertainer Of All Time, He maid 120 or 115 mill of Thriller, and still is the most albums sold of all time and still selling. When MJ died every was in shock, All haters just shutted up, and the kid who accused MJ of raping him, Admited that Jackson didnt do anything to him and didnt touch, the dad told him to say that for the money. I wish you get your assed whooped AY24. You dont know anything about music, you douche bag.
