Keep in mind, this is coming from the guy that said Kobe Bryant wouldn’t show up in training camp.

Clublakers: According to Ric Bucher on ESPN Sportscenter, he said Kobe was ready to begin the season with the mindset that the Los Angeles Lakers were not going to grant his wish and trade him, but now that they have mentioned the possibility, he wants it to happen as soon as possible. Here are the deals he mentioned that were discussed.

Dallas – Jason Terry and Josh Howard

Chicago – Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni, and Tyrus Thomas

He mentioned that the Dallas offer was an actual offer and that Jerry Buss took a few days to think about it and then rejected it.

He also mentioned that the Chicago scenario is more of a discussion since the Lakers front office wants all negotiations to start with Luol Deng.

Guys is sad, but I see a future where Kobe and the Lakers are not together, Is either happening now or by end of this season.

Bucher thoughts mean nothing to me. Its what Dr Buss said yesterday that troubles me, “If the right deal comes along”

And just when you thought it was safe to be a Lakerfan again.

• Michael_23

Those deals are horrible. I’m totally against Kobe going away but if he must …

Dallas – Dirk Nowitzki

Chicago – Luol Deng, Ben Gorden, Kirk Hirick, Draft Pick.

That may be the best deal possible. With Kobe’s no trade clause, he picks the team as we all know. A contending team would be very limited in the offer catagory.

Dr. Buss spelled it out very carefully. Kobe will opt if we don’t trade him. Even tho its two years away, Kobe holds all the cards, except one. Dr. Buss can refuse to do anything for two years.

That’s why I don’t understand this commotion from Bucher and Buss. Nothing good can come along to really help the Lakers. If we trade Kobe to a team of his choice, we are screwed. If we keep Kobe and he opts, we’re screwed. Buss’s only hope as he said would be a sign and trade, which is a false hope. Why? Because Buss is assumming Kobe wants a big contract and he doesn’t. A contending team doesn’t have to do anything, if Kobe will play for the the MLE. And the Lakers only benefit will be more cap space which will be minimal.

There won’t be a bidding war for Kobe, because Kobe is very selective on who he will play for. Those 2-3 teams will have two years to clear cap space even if that is necessary.

I see where Jim Buss got is big mouth. Dr Buss just had to have the last word. For such a good business man that he is, he made a poor calculated move in speaking up on Thursday.

• mplakers

In case you missed it…
Here are some of the key quotes Jerry Buss made regarding Kobe’s status with the Lakers. You can read the full story by the OC’s Kevin Ding here:
- About trying to trade Bryant in recent months: “I told him that I would try my best to accommodate his wishes, but that I could not afford to let him go unless we got comparable talent, if there is such a thing. We’d certainly have to have All-Star talent.”
- About revisiting the idea of trading Bryant if the Lakers don’t win this season: “I would certainly listen….You can’t keep too many loyalties. You’ve got to look at it as a business.”
- About Bryant possibly opting out of his contract after next season: “If he still is in that frame of mind, then hopefully we can do a sign-and-trade and get some comparable talent. I would like to think that we’d win in between now and then so that it doesn’t come up.”
Buss envisions a healthy Lakers team winning at least 50 regular-season games this season — then having a chance at a breakthrough postseason. That might offset all of Bryant’s negativity from the recent offseason, when he asked to be traded after publicly lambasting Lakers officials for misleading him and not trying to win immediately.
Those comments prompted a Buss-Bryant summit in Barcelona, Spain, in mid-June. Buss described it this way:
“He was very, very respectful. I told him when I walked in that I was going to try and talk him out of it. And he said, ‘I’ll listen carefully.’ And he did. He listened very carefully for 30-45 minutes.
“I tried to explain to him how much the City of Los Angeles loved him and to leave 10 million sweethearts for unknown territory might not be the right thing to do. But when I was finished, he said he basically felt the same way. I said, ‘OK. Well, with that, I’ll proceed to see what’s available.’ But like I said, anybody who had talent – just go down the top 15 stars in the league – they won’t trade. That’s it.”
Buss said every offer to date for Bryant has been laughable and “not ever under consideration.”
“I told him I would pursue it, and I did,” Buss said. “But what I was offered in return … I even told him occasionally what I was offered, and I said, ‘You have to know that this is not in favor of the Lakers. This would just be terrible to do.’ And he said, ‘I understand that.’ ”

Kobe posted this on his offical website. It’s an indication that what Jerry Buss said was nothing new to him and the conversations they had with each other were more than cordial. The media basically, snipped pieces of Jerry Buss’s statements and once again blew it up into something more than it was in order to incite Lakers fans and cause turmoil within the Laker Locker room. The only questionable behavior was Buss’s timing and choice as to when and who he said these comments to.

The beginning of a new season is definitely not the time to revisit the chaos they experienced this summer. In addition, LA Times is positively a place that has transformed itself into a campground for everything anti-Laker just like ESPN. This is evident in their multiple articles blaming Kobe for Shaq’s departure and inflammatory articles that coincidentally keep popping up just when boiling points begin to simmer down.

The reporter/s from the LA Times chose to write a negative spin rather than report the story at its face value which was basically a summary by Buss as to what happened this summer. Why has the LA Times and ESPN become such a Laker hating ground since Shaq’s departure? The answer to that may never be known because the writers/reporter at LA times and ESPN will never own up to their anti-Laker agendas because they are too chicken or they never were from Los Angeles in the first place. There aren’t any true Angelinos that I know of that throw the Lakers “under the bus” more often than the LA Times or ESPN. I am sure that the same can be said for a majority of Los Angeles residents who grew up here.

We’re sick of it you Laker-hating reporters. Get your act together. Model yourselves after the great Chick Hearn who never was a “homer” and always told it like it was without any agendas. If you do, your careers might last just as long as his legendary career did. As for Jerry Buss, hopefully you have learned that the LA Times or ESPN are no longer places to divulge any interior information since they will find a way to shove it into your organization’s collective faces.

• gugy

I think we will find out Kobe’s future with the Lakers very soon. If PJ extend his contract for more two years, then there is a chance Kobe might stay. If this is indeed PJ’s last season, then you can bet Kobe is leaving very soon.
Since PJ said he will make his mind in the upcoming weeks, you can be sure the answer is coming very soon,

• steve

Any deal with the bulls has to have deng in it first…If this crap is going to go on all season long(which it will) then i say get a good deal done and lets have players on this team that want to be LAKERS…

Thank you kb24mvp. You guys are all being little drama queens and im sad to see all you just freak out at nothing. First, as kb24mvp stated, buss never said anything to do with wanting to trade kobe, or that he would. He simply said that you have to “listen to offers”. He doesn’t want to see kobe go to another team, and no other good team, (thaT KOBE WOULD WANT TO PLAY FOR) CAN EVEN EVER AFFORD HIM, WITHOUT GUTTTING THIER WHOLE TEAM. It’s not gonna happen people. Kobe will be a laker for life. Ric bucher is just trying to start stuff. And personally i thought what buss said was very fair, and that he was only giving an overview of the whole situation this summer…nothing more, nothing less. dont trip Laker Nation

• sincebirth1

Wow and it comes to this… Lakers would be fools… fools I say if they trade Kobe.. if its not bringing back Labron.. or Big Fundamentals… I wouldn’t understand any deal for Kobe except those… I just being real… you dont give up the best player in the league for garbage…

Here Fatty Ill just post the whole story

Lakers focus on unity, winning
Jerry Buss’ comments about trading Kobe Bryant caused some fireworks, but the Lakers so far aren’t taking their eyes off the ball to watch them.
By KEVIN DING The Orange County Register
Comments 0| Recommend 2

HONOLULU — The Lakers packed their basketballs and their macadamia nuts and headed home Friday after 11 days of training camp in Hawaii … just in time to find the mainland newly abuzz with Kobe Bryant trade chatter.

In Honolulu for one more day after Lakers owner Jerry Buss revealed past and possibly future willingness to trade Bryant, the Lakers remained largely in island seclusion.

“I doubt even half the guys saw the story,” guard Derek Fisher said late Thursday night.

Lamar Odom hadn’t, but he got briefed by a reporter — then did his best to state politically correct support for teammate Bryant and the organization that employs them. The Lakers have been trying to focus on Bryant’s body resting among them now — not how his mind wandered before.

Just before the Lakers gathered to board their charter jet to Hawaii, Luke Walton had said of Bryant’s status: “I’m 99 percent positive that by the end of training camp nobody — at least on our team — is going to be talking about this.”

When queried about the remaining 1 percent possibility of drama, Walton cracked a big grin and said: “Well, you never know. This is L.A.”

For most part the Lakers went about their team business of meals, practices and relaxation together while in Hawaii. Bryant was vocally demanding in practice, just as he’d promised to be this season in hopes of pushing his teammates to overachieve, but he was not antisocial.

On Thursday night, just minutes after Odom had pondered Buss’ comments about trading Bryant, Odom and Bryant enjoyed laughs together in the locker room before the exhibition game. They had many more at the end of the bench when Bryant wasn’t playing.

Coach Phil Jackson isn’t feeling stressed either. Jackson’s square shoulders bear the challenge of building a team around a distracted superstar more heavily than anyone’s. Yet Jackson could be seen joking with reporters Thursday about which articles regarding Buss’ comments were written by “instigators.”

As much speculation as there is about Bryant’s ultimate destination, the Lakers see their only hope to be banding and winning together — which might give Bryant reason to want to stay.

“I had a basketball club in Chicago at the end of my stay there that had some disaffection with some of the people in the franchise, and they were able to unify around the team and win a championship,” Jackson said. “That’s the important thing: How are you going to unify? You have to find the unifying cause to go with that, and that’s the important thing for Kobe. That’s the message for him.”

Bryant wasn’t saying Thursday how he felt about Buss saying he “would certainly listen” to trade offers for Bryant again if the Lakers didn’t fare well this season. Bryant implied previously that it was a good sign Buss would be “back in the loop” after two seasons of a more detached approach to the team. Jackson confirmed that Buss intends to be more involved, citing a dinner conversation from the offseason.

“Dr. Buss mentioned it himself,” Jackson said before adding: “That’s a role that he has always had. He said he stepped back a little bit. So I think he’s going to be proactive again.”

Without a doubt, Buss lit a match Wednesday with his talk of trading Bryant, but Buss also said he sees “a better team than we had last year.” He expressed faith that Jackson could elevate this team to championship level even this season.

“I have no doubts in my mind that if this team is healthy, he has got a shot,” Buss said. “I think that’s just true. We’ve got the best coach; we’ve got the best player. We do have some complementary players that aren’t bad. So you take the best coach, the best player, a little bit of luck, and there you are.”

That, theoretically, would enable Buss and Bryant to live happily ever after.

“Kobe last year came to my house several times for lunch,” Buss said. “And certainly I’ll invite him again this year.”

If Bucher is LYING…then why isn’t Kobe coming out and saying this is not true. Bucher as a journalist and would be slandering and could be sued. So the fact remains, Kobe does want out. What will happen??? MY best guess is that the other laker players are united. They do want to win this year and probably hope that kobe can help them. Either way this team is united and as Walton said in the article…that 99% chance this will not be an issue for the team. My prediction…PJ, Fisher, and the team concept will bring Kobe away from the ledge. He will see that the other players are united and wanting to win. He will want to be apart of that. If he chooses not to, then the lakers will go on. They will perservere. They will make the best of a bad situation and hopefully get some value for Kobe. This makes no sense. Think about it, Kobe said he knew the whole time they wanted to were going to try and trade him. Buss said that he talked to Kobe about deals that he was getting, so it’s pretty obvious Kobe knew. It’s not like Kobe is just now finding out like we are, Ric Butcher is just straight up lying if he really did say this.

the thing about reporters is that they can slither passed the law when it comes to reporting incorrect information..yeah, had it been a regular citizen, a person could have had sued bucher for slander..however, when it comes to people well known, for example, politicians, athletes, etc..u have to not only prove they are slandering, but you also have to prove they had done so with actual malice…that is much harder than most ppl think, so obviously bucher could go around creating as much crap as he wants..all he wants is for his rating as a journalist to go up

lakers4life, yea i know it does’nt meke sense to trade away Bynum if Kobe is leaving but i think Bynum is partialy responsable for Kobe’s disgust with this team, his frustration started when the Lakers refused the deal for Kid the Lakers were to passive on what to me is the only decent proposal they’ve had in a long time.Having said that, if Buss is willing to trade Kobe then why not Bynum and a couple other lames in the team!!!Why not???huh!!!!I hate Bynum that’s all there is to it realy.Yea and i know who cares what i think right???But im just disgusted at Bynum!!!!!!!!!

• ab4sure

How come Kobe doesn’t clear the air? He could easily say what Bucher is saying is false. Why doesn’t he say that???
Because it is TRUE!!!!!!!!!

Although I am 100% sure this is true, I wouldnt say that. I think the reason that Kobe’s staying silent because if he publicly addresses this issue theres going to be more criticism and heat on Kobe, no matter what direction Kobes would take this. We all know the media is going to spin it so the situation is blown way out of proportion and thats not good for Kobes already hurt image. None of his sponsors would allow this, especially Nike, during media day Kobe had his own Nike rep with him and prep him so he wouldnt say anything to ruin his image regarding this very situation.

this coming from the man that said kobe wasnt gonna be in camp…after that story failed he’s tryin to put more bullshit out there for publicity bucher is a really really sad journalist

Well BEC…my only point is this is true and at least you see that it is true. I am also sure Kobe wants out now. We have about 80% of the lakernation who believes that Kobe did not say that. Is common sense and reasoning gone is this world??? Do we still believe that the world is flat??? Perhaps thelakernation should change its name to the Kobenation???

For such a good business man that he is, he made a poor calculated move in speaking up on Thursday.
you are dead on…why say anything Dr.Buss???

The first offer is never the best offer. When you buy a car do you tell them the most you are willing to pay right up front??? If you did then your probably paying close to sticker price. And retail is for suckers. Dallas will offer more and so will the Bulls. This isn’t a firesale. Kobe is under contract for at least two more years. And both those teams will be willing to pay at least those offers a year from now, so why sale now. Besides, giving another year lots of things change and the lakers could do well enough where kobe might think differently. Buss is smart despite all the ridicule he endures on this site. If Some of the trade proposals and moves mentioned here were done by a laker GM or owner, we would have to change this site to Clippernation.

• TheLAunit

I Thought all this trade talk was over but stupid reporters like Bucher keep bringing up these lies. Kobe’s not going no were so give it up already. He will be a Laker for the rest of his career, and i’m not filling them trades at all. Lets just play this season out without no more reports about Kobe Bryant Please.

there is never a good time to keep a player that wants out badly. the chemistry will not be there for the team. get young talent and start the rebuild now instead of 2 years from now. obviously with the team the lakers put together this year no one is expecting to be out of the first round if we make it at all, so why not staert the process now???

• ab4sure

We can wait to see how this year goes. And there are many who think the lakers can win 50 games this year, even on lakernation. That being said , if a deal comes about with some quality young players then we can do that. The situation should dictate what the lakers should do. No need to panic.

• PHANTOM

your dreaming if you think they can win 50 this year with this no defense squad

• ab4sure

They were on pace for a fifty win season last year before the injuries. They now have a healthy Mihm, a solid player in Fish, and a great young rookie in Crittenton. No smush. Plus you have another year of experience with their young players. Very realistic when you think about it.

• MOECHEEZETHELAKERFAN

THIS DUE IS REALLY REACHEN FOR A STORY!!! DONT TAKE IT OUT ON LAKER NATION BECAUSE BASEBALL’S PLAYOFFS SUCKS AND YOU GUYS NEED A STORY!! ALL FINGERS POINT TO THE FACT THAT KOBE JUST WANTS TO PLAY BALL YES HE WANTS WINNERS BUT LEAVE THE TRADE TALK TO THE FRONT OFFICE OF THE LAKERS AND FOR US LAKER FANS LETS HOPE KOBE’S NAME ISNT INCLUDED!!

• lakerforlife24

The truth of the matter is that Kobe will most likely go Bulls for something like Gordon,Nocioni,Noah or Thomas and one or two draft picks.Lets not forget that this is the perfered team of Kobe.I personally think that Kobe is trying to follow in Michael Jordans foot steps. Also why in the world would Dr. Buss trade Kobe to a team in the same conference so that if we were to play ,say a Dallas team you would just rip us.
