Rambis set to coach Wolves?

It sounds like Rambis could be headed to Minny next season.

rambisStar Tribune: The word in NBA circles is that Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis will be the next Timberwolves coach and Mychal Thompson, the former Gophers star and Lakers teammate of Rambis’ who now is a radio broadcaster for the Lakers, has made a strong recommendation. “I talked to David [Kahn] personally and told him you have to go after a guy like Rambis who knows what it takes to win in this league,” Thompson said. “He would take the job if it was offered to him. I know that. He would be a great teacher to guys like Al Jefferson and Kevin Love.”

CONGRATS COACH RAMBIS! THANKS FOR ALL THE YEARS AS A PLAYER AND A COACH! We’ll definitely miss you on the coaching staff! It’s too bad that we won’t see you going from Clark Kent to Superman for our team, but you deserve the shot that you’re getting and good luck to you!

    • xtro

nooooo!!! who will be our defense coach now? i say we go after tom thibodeau.

    • BT_Rose

he deserves it. good luck to u good sir!

    • 123kid

dont do it kurt. screw mchale over and give him the middle finger. never do business with a celtic. kurt definetly deserves his dues, but i bet mchale will just screw rambis over and taint his name as a coach. mchale will always bleed green shyt and screw over a laker.

Congrats to Rambis, good luck to him whatever he does with the Timberwolves. He will be missed.

    • lakerman1

Why would any Laker want to work for a Celtic, even Mychal T. mentioning it is absurd.

      • Coooooooooooooop

        For money.

    • ceballos_neverforget

I actually agree with 123kid…If I’m not mistaken, there was speculation that McHale spurned the Lakers in the potential Garnett trade to help out ainge in bean-town…Rambis, Don’t fool yourself into thinking 100% of McHale’s allegiance is only with the T’wolves. He still wears green under those shirts and neckties!

    • WINLESS

Last I checked, Kevin McDouche doesn’t have anything to do with the Wolves anymore. He’s was fired last year as a coach and he’s not the GM anymore either. If so then good luck to Kurt coz he’s gonna need it when the Lakers face the Wolves lol.

get ur money kurt thanks for everything if u go

    • Robert

This would be Rambis’ chance to clothesline McHale at the first business meeting. I imagine that he wouldn’t employ the Triangle offense, and so there wouldn’t be a chance of McHale espionage. WINLESS says that McDouche is no longer part of the org., so even less of a problem, or non-existent.

Clark K, Don’t forget your winter cape if you go – a little colder up there than LA. Thanks for the memories in Lake-land, and best fishes.

Guys – McHale no longer works for the T-wolves. McHale was GM last year, but then went to coach the T-wolves. After McHale went to coach, the owner said they were going to look for a new GM and McHale was given the option to resume coaching or not. McHale choose not, so that is why the T-wolves are looking for a coach. As far as I know, McHale is no longer with the T-wolves.

Hmm… a Celtic got replaced by a Laker, that should tell you something.

Rambis put his time in and proved he’s ready for the next move. We wish you luck Kurt….enjoy the pay increase as well!

michael thompson is about as relavant as any of you losers reading this.rambis will be missed,,,,,

    • crazypostman

on one hand im bummed to be losing kurt because hes been a part of this organization for so long, helped out the team so much, and could potentially take over the lakers when phil leaves but on the other hand im really happy for him for the opportunity to take his career to the next level. good luck if you get the job kurt, you will be missed :)

    • mastarockafella

Congratulation Sir Rambis! You deserve this shot. YOu have proven to be a leader and lead our boys to be tougher in defense. It’s your time to shine. Too sad though, you will not be part of the repeat. Anyway, Good luck!!!

    • Steve Theriault

      Congrats to Kurt!
I want to see Kurt as the Lakers head coach in a few years.
Having additional head coaching experience already should help him in securing the job later.
So congrats Kurt! Enjoy the payraise, and pack some warm clothing.

    • THELAKERSWON09

Thank you for giving us all those championship rings coach R! I hope you get paid very well with the wolves :)

    • Laker Islander

Byron Scott blew his chance of ever coaching the Lakers with that blow-out loss in the playoffs. Who else could take over if Phil leaves?

    • kirk

was mchale the one that closelined rambis back in the day when the lakers were playing the c’s? i think it was, and then mchale gets fired as a coach cuz he sucked and replaced with the guy who he closelined?

    • Chris

Please do your research before looking like an idiot. The Wolves are under completely new leadership. McFail is long gone. Kurt, if you choose to go, good luck and thanks for the memories! Minneapolis is a beautiful city! Go Lakers!!!

    • 242LakerFan

Phil’s knees don’t have much more left in them. I doubt he’ll come back for the ’10-’11 season. Kurt would have been the logical replacement. On the other hand, in this league, you better take advantage of your opportunities when they present themselves because they don’t come along too often.
Good luck, Clark Kent. I hope to see you blossom into Coach Superman in Minny.

    • the ape

congratulations kurt, you deserve the break. show them that a laker as coach is wayyyy better than a celtic as coach.

i guess this means we’ll have b shaw after phil. i’m pleased about that too

    • titejt

He shouldn’t leave. He of all people should know he’s going to be like first in line once Phil retires.

    • 242LakerFan

Hypothetical: You have a choice – wait a year, maybe even longer, for a possible promotion in your company, or take the job the competition is offering you right now with the top position, the corner office and the serious salary hike. Keep in mind we’re in the middle of an Obcession.

      bye bye

    • RoWyN

      CONSPIRACY THEORY:
Since we weren’t able to get Garnett because of McHale’s ties with Boston, does anyone think this has something to do with our interest to Ricky Rubio? Just an Idea.
