With the arrival of Spanish PG Ricky Rubio to the Minnesota Timberwolves, rumors are flying that the Wolves may be interested in trading for his Spanish national team running mate, Pau Gasol.

Our friend Eric Pincus at Hoopsworld.com wrote a very interesting article regarding the Los Angeles Lakers and the possibility that they could trade Pau Gasol for Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Forward, Kevin Love. In the article, Pincus proposes two scenarios in which the Lakers would trade Pau Gasol to Minnesota.

One proposal would send Gasol to Minnesota, with the Lakers recieving the 2nd overall pick in next Thursdays draft, along with a host of players in return (PG Johnny Flynn, SG Martell Webster, F Anthony Tolliver, F Anthony Randolph, and C Darko Milicic).

The 2nd proposal would send Gasol to the T-Wolves in exchange for Kevin Love, Flynn, Webster, F Lazar Hayward and C Nikola Peckovic.

The question is, Laker Nation, which trade would you make?

Which trade would you make if you were the Lakers?

#2 would give us Derrick Williams who could really help kobe as a wing palyer that can score and would also be out star of the future.  Flynn Kobe Artest Odom Bynum with Blake Webster/Barnes Williams Randolph and Milicic off the bench

  • Byroncab03

Love LOVE. all around good player. wouldnt weenie out in a series either!

If you trade Pau without securing a backup center, then you leave the team naked given Drew’s injury problems. Why not trade Pau for Love and the draft choice and fill in with Flynn and whomever?

    • Cecilb_1

I agree with you, but we have to get Wesley Johnson also.

  • Evilmrchicken

NO! I really don’t want to give up Pau…I hope Mitch doesn’t do this :-(

    • Cecilb_1

He’s just not a POWER forward. He’s this soft hybrid player. We need muscle, youth, and a point guard. This trade would accomplish that.

  • Todd

We need duh-wight howard and tony parker, not K love

  • Richowin

Two options for the Lakers this off season.
    1. Keep the core and make minor (but significant) tweaks to the roster (i.e. adding a young PG).
    2. Go all out and trade away our core players for the younger stars who seem to want out or are on the trading block (i.e. Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, D. Williams, Kevin Love, Monta Ellis, etc.).

Honestly, I would like to see management keep the team together and make the necessary additions. I want to see what Mike Brown can do with Bynum/Gasol similar to San Antonio’s former Twin Towers.

If Minnesota and LA get serious about this trade possibility, then I say we pull the trigger. I think it’s only worth it if we get both Love and the #2 along with a couple fillers to balance the numbers. This gives us more depth to work with and we get younger players with favorable contracts.

Just got a great idea, trade for Rubio. Lakers get what they need most, a young PG.

      Ricky Rubio is garbage!!!

  • Magic4star

How bout love and the 2nd over all….

    • edgar

now that’s a deal, but it would be a bummer seeing pau go if any trade goes down

  • Lak3rs41nt

If we could get #2 and Love + fillers for Gasol and blake thatd be awesome.  We could then flip the #2 to Cleveland for #4 and JJ Hickson or Ramon Sessions.  Use the #4 on Kemba or Brandon Knight.  Our team could look like this:
    PG Kemba Walker//Sessions//Fisher
    SG Kobe//Webster//Fisher
    SF Artest//Randolph//Barnes
    PF Love//Odom//Caracter
    C Bynum//Peckovic

Bynum Love and Kemba would be our trio for the future and we would still have the possibility of a Bynum + Randolph for Howard deal

  • Cecilb_1

Ga-softy and Artest for Love, Webster, Flynn and Wesley Johnson.

    • Luke Sucks

Package Luke instead of Artest and we have a deal.

  • pillbilly

Love & #2 or Rubio for someone other than Gasol.

I’m comfortable with Odom starting if we get a solid, proven PG.  Unless of course something drastic happens and we get D.Howard somehow.

  • http://twitter.com/KingKongManu Manu Schreibmüller

to be honest…it sounds good, love webster flyn milicic for pau….milicic is a good backup and shotblocker, webster a solid shooter flynn a young solid player and love is a great rebounder and all-rounder he has a good outside shot (better than pau)…i would hate to see pau leave but i think i would do it…

  • Austin

You Laker fans are retarded. What makes you think your players are worth K Love and the 2nd pick. Kobes not worth that. hahaha

    • bill

Pau brought Lakers to three straight finals and two rings.  Kevin Love has been great as an individual but has brought the wolves nowhere in the last two years, you realized the wolves was the worst team in the NBA in 2011, don’t you? Grabbing double digit rebounds was great, love his hustle, but until he proves he can help the team win, please don’t embarrass yourself by comparing to him to Pau.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kesean-Turner/1489086319 Kesean Turner

If you take your purp and yellow sun glasses off, you would see that as of last season Love vs. Gasol is a fair comparison. You could argue that Love is more valuable than Pau depending of a teams offensive and defensive philosophies. Love can shoot 3s at a high clip, this stretches the offense out. Something that Pau’s game doesn’t really allow. And Love was the best rebounder in the league last season. Giving the wolves more opportunities to score. You can’t blame K. Love because he’s on a horrible team. How did Kobe look in ’05 when we missed the Playoffs? Does it take away from Kobe’s game naww, especially when Smush was the PG. I’m just sayin

    • Luke Sucks

  • RobG

Get Love for Pau. Get Howard for Bynum. 3 peat easy!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kesean-Turner/1489086319 Kesean Turner

Im a laker fan and these trade rumors sound absolutely ridiculous. LA’s a great city with great weather and the Laker franchise is legendary, but to think we can get every player in the league via trade or free agency is embarrassing. From D12, and CP3 and now Ellis and Love. SMH.

So lets say the Wolves agree to either of the trade scenarios. Who are they going to start the season with? Both scenarios are 6 for 1. The wolves would only have like 9 guys on their entire roster.

Oh ok so they’ll sign free agents this summer. What note worthy FA has ever signed a deal in Minnesota? Min. has so many young homegrown talents cuz FA never even think to sign there in the summer, so they have to farm their talent. This deal would gut their team leaving them with one star ( half of a star at that ) and absolutely nothing else. This is so retarded of a trade that if it happens, I’d actually start to believe all the conspiracy theories about the game being rigged.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_T25GSDTFRBNX6WZGKYBNGHDMRQ Margarite

Greed kills! Laker fans think every player who’s a star belongs to them! That comes from a lot of young bandwagon fans who are suckers for glitter. Championship are won by Teams not stars. Year ago the Boston Celties had no big stars and won many championships The had a great team. Running behind and wishing guys like Dwight Howard , Kevin Love and Chris Paul join your team is fools gold.

Sprewell * Sam Cassell back on the early 2000′s

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kesean-Turner/1489086319 Kesean Turner

Cassell was approaching the end of his career, and Spewell didn’t have many options due to his “attitude” problem. Teams also questioned his work ethic and dedication to the game. That team competed for a minute before Spree blew it up. Remember the I have to feed my kids comments.

        Try again buddy.

  • edy

id probably would do this trade if we can get kevin love the 2# round pick and beasley ,and we can trade  pau gasol and lamar ,and im pretty sure artest would smack beasley around if he starts to act  foolish then we can trade bynum for dwight

  • Afan50

I wouldn’t trade Love straight up for Pau. This poll is ridiculous. Pau is soft and getting old, how would that help the T-wolves. We already gave you the Lakers, now the T-wolves also.

  • Ragerok

I wouldn’t trade Gasol right now. listen, yah he was bad in the playoffs, but think about it. we’ve been to the Finals 3 times since we got him. won back to back. would of been great to win 3 but things happen. i think Pau, playin’ this summer n’ keeping fresh to the game, will have him ready to go come next season. new coach, new season, n’ a new run to reclaim whats ours. too many people are counting him out cuz we didnt make a run for the 3peat. its all good. we’re gonna get back whats ours.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_EBSP2NHQGTSVYUHYANRNCEYDUM 123KID

Any of those trade scenarios would be a steal deal and I really dont see either of them happening. I think for the T-Wolves to get Gasol it makes sense because, they get a veteran, someone with championship experience, someone who knows the triangle and has worked under Rambis, and someone who can get the best out of the Rubio. But even then, I still think the Lakers would still have to give up at least 1 or 2 more players and maybe some of their draft picks in order to have serious trade conversations, especially for Love.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gmcorp Roly L Tan

I would love this trade…Love is a terrific rebounder, good free throw shooter…..

  • Jonggo

The only time i would give up Pau is for Dwight or Dirk ( which wouldn’t happen as of this time) other than that, it is foolish to give up a Versatile Big guy for somebody else with the exception of CP3 and even that i would really think about it. Just because he had a bad playoff run doesn’t mean he’s worth trading, i too was very disappointed with him… but you watch and He’ll come back with a vengance and make a push for another championship cause this guy already knows what it takes to be a champion. Let’s have Faith in our team if you’re a real laker fan. We still have the best team out there just a few tweaks and we’ll be fine. Go Lakers!!!

  • TheNolanater

I don’t like the poll at all it left out an option. How about Kevin Love and the #2 pick for Pau Gasol? I say that or no deal at all. I could care less about them other players so Kevin Love and #2 draft pick or take the offer off the table cause no deal unless it’s that way.

    • SoberlyScience

the money doesnt match if its Pau for Love and the 2nd pick.  it would have to involve a bunch more pieces.

      • TheNolanater

Okay how can it match up then? If we trade Pau Gasol for Kevin Love and the #2 pick what else will needed to be added where we can get Love and the #2 pick. As long as it’s Love and #2 pick throw in all the no name players you want as long as we can get Love and the second pick that is huge.
How can it work do you know? Gasol for Love #2 pick and who else?

        • http://twitter.com/KingKongManu Manu Schreibmüller

flynn webster and another 1-2 mio contract need to be included. but i doubt the wolves would do that…they wount give up that much!

  • 3StarAndTheSun

If this happen, I run to Staple naked

  • Jearl1969

I think we should trade Gasol for Love! the LAKERS  need to get younger!

I think we should trade Gasol for Love! the LAKERS  need to get younger!

  • Yoooo

Kevin Love would be an excellent addition to the team. Why? Well, I’ve watched him since college and he has improved a lot and he shows great potential if he develops correctly.
Some pros on him is that he can of course rebound which will help us get a lot of 2nd chance of opportunities and grab the defensive rebound to negate any 2nd chances for opponents. And if we decide to go fast and try for more fastbreaks, his passing would be a huge advantage because he has great strength to pass the ball from the block to the opposite 3 point line. And offensively, his range would spread the floor greatly for more post ups for Kobe and Bynum, but is especially deadly from behind the arc when in rhythm. He also has the skill to post up and clean up any missed shots.
And defense would be superb though he wouldn’t be able to block shots like Pau did but Love his smart to force his guy into an awkward shot or situation. And lastly, youth. He would give more energy and be able to be our force with Bynum in the future.

  • lakerstillidie

Lakers are now building there team for the future, in 2-3 years Kobe will pass the torch. And that torch will pass to whom the Lakers will think they can give them a championship ring. But first we have to think about the CBA and the lockout. Let the front office do the work. I think they can pull through. LAKERS TILL I DIE

    • Cody

2-3 years? So you are saying that KOBE will retire in 2-3 years?

      • http://twitter.com/KingKongManu Manu Schreibmüller

kobe can´t carry the lakers till hes 40…  sooner or later there has to be some help or someone that but the lakers on his back…he dows not have to retire in 2-3 years but someone has do help him in 2-3 years…

    • ilikebasketball

      i agree.
      those guys are untouchable.

Artest, blake, barnes, luke are surely the ones that need to be taken out first and foremost.

The Best Deal .. for Both Side … Paul Gasol for Kevin Love and Pick #2 … Paul Gasol is a All-Star Player w. 2 Champions in his Pockett … He Bring Experience and Flexibility to Minesota Team …

    • Luke Sucks

The salaries don’t match so try again.  Gasol plus the two second round draft picks for Love, Flynn and company.  If we can move Luke, do it.

  • TouchingMyelf

We’ve been told all along by Ricky Rubio’s camp that he would NOT sign with the Timberwolves over and over again.  Now all of the sudden we hear that Ricky would honor his draft position and come over to play for the Timberwolves.  I thought “How odd… what changed?  What is it that made Rubio change his mind?”  And now there’s this rumor that Pau may be traded over to the Timberwolves for Kevin Love in a few possibility of trades.  This has gotten to be pretty interesting to me.  This now is looking more like REALITY than just rumors.  This thing has legs and it’s running as fast as Usain Bolt’s 100 m dash!

  • Magic4star@yahoo.com

Darko, love and the number 2 pick. Get other teams involved like clevland and Denver to take players maybe the lakers could include caracter along with artest the only thing is the lakers need to keep Lamar and not hinder themselves from getting Howard. A line up of Howard, love, lamar, Kobe 2nd pick with a bench of Darko, barnes,Eubanks, jj redickk, fisher…. And hopefully they get rid of Walton and Blake and fill the rest of the roster with the 2 picks the lakers have. This will kill it!!!

  • Yash

OMG WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU GUYS?? UR BUILDING AN ALL STAR TEAM. I want a team that can compete not a team thats like the heat. we already have the best team, so why dont u win with them instead? And ppl didnt like lebron going to the heat because there are 2 superstars. What do we have? An All Star team, perfectly fine

  • ilikebasketball

you people are crazy to turn on Pau like this, especially for a guy like Love. Pau is one THE premier players in the league, a possible hall of famer and the 2nd best player on our team besides Kobe. and you are going to trade him for Love? Why cause he beat a Moses Malone’s Rebounding record? get real.

  • ICE CREAM MAN

Kevin is ok but why wasn’t he like this from the get go?  I mean he was getting boards and stuff but all of a sudden he was the best thing that came out since slice bread.  He was the most improved, iron man type player.  I don’t trust these kind of Luke type players.  They ball then a team signs them up for some bank then they fizzle out.  I would not trade gasol for him but maybe sign him if we have cap space.

    • TouchingMyself

What?  Since when was Luke EVER that player?  Luke got that contract because Phil liked him and he fit well within the triangle system… he NEVER EVER had a dominant stretch like K-Love ever did.

And as far as why K-Love wasn’t like this from the get go… he was NEVER projected to be that franchise player.  When he came in, he had to feel his way out.  And probably just got fed up that his team sucked so badly and he took on that challenge from Rambis head on… when Rambis was “WAITING” for someone on that team to step up to be that player!  That’s when K-Love responded!

Beasley wasn’t gonna be that player, and Darko… forget about it!  Players emerge from all different types of situations.  I’m NOT gonna second guess him or his effort because he just decided to emerge as opposed to have just came out swinging from the get go.  I think that K-Love will be this player from now on.

I love Pau and what he brings and has brought to our Lakers, but I’m NOT hating this trade either.  Holding onto Pau will only be a short term situation.  K-Love is way younger and is NOT soft (not saying that Pau is).  If we get Howard, then K-Love will be the perfect compliment player to him.  Both young and have lots of great ball in their gas tanks.  K-Love will stretch the D out so that Howard will not get double teamed as much (remember, K-Love is a legitimate threat from the 3!)

Whatever happens, I’m anxious to see what our Lakers Unit will look like this comin season, if there is going to be one!

      • ICE CREAM MAN

Don’t get me wrong.  I would Love to have him w/ us but i wouldn’t trade gasol for him.  If we are to trade gasol then I would look elsewhere.  Love is a “nose to the grindstone” type player.   That’s a perfect roll player but I think gasol as a trade bait should be packaged for a star.

  • xtro

hell no. keep the team. add a pg.

I would like to see kevine love and russell wesbrook come home to Los Angeles. We need our young ucla players to come home and represent. They deserve to get PAID, they have proven that they are quality LEADERS and the future of the NBA, THE LAKERS have too many players in their 30′s and can use players in their 20′s that can come in and RECHARGE the team and lead us into the next championship run
