While the draft had most of the attention, Phil Jackson had a press conference during the NBA Draft! AM570 has a link to the entire press conference but there was a key quote about Kobe in it.

AM570: “In my heart of hearts I believe when it comes time in Hawaii for this team to step on the floor Kobe Bryant’s gonna be wearing a Lakers uniform.”

– Phil Jackson

Good interview. Like Phil said, they were probably 1 player away from performing at an elite level. The guy speaks with a lot of depth, calm, and poise. And this is from someone who is on the front line leading the charge.
Now to go watch this board daily and see how many crybabies, whiners, and critics there are it just blows me away how far away their opinions are from how PJ sees the team himself. I hope the vocal critics on this board listen and try to compare their perception of the team to that of PJ’s perception of where the team is at. Then ask yourself really, who is being realistic… THEN DO US ALL A FAVOR AND STFU if all you are going to do is whine about Laker management.

  • gstoneballer

i just want the lakers to make a move..a and laker fans stop blaming mitch.. its not his fault… its jims

  • Lakes on 3!

He said it…1 GOOD PLAYER “GARNETT”!!!

  • lakersforlife77

I’ll listen to anything phil says. There’s no coach better than you phil!!!

  • LaKeRkB

yea i think mchales are fading away he has to make a choice if he wants smthin for garnett n we have best offer on table right now soo

  • LaKeRkB

i mean mchales options are fading away*

  • LAalltheway

Yeah, everyone should be a little more careful before pointing the finger in any one direction. But, all this “whining” I think shows how passionate Lakers fans really are. We shouldn’t just be bitching and moaning at every little decision, but I also don’t think that we should just sit back and trust every decision that’s made, because these are very delicate situations and a certain degree of intelligence and creativity is needed to make our team the best it possibly can be. All that whining just may be one of the key ingredients to keeping the FO sharp, or at the very least, honest.

  • LAalltheway

And it doesn’t help that Mitch just sounds like he’s covering his own ass with every interview he has. But then again, not everyone has Phil’s gift of conversation.

  • Justin M

Phil is the greatest coach of all-time. No ? about it.

  • NY Kobe Fan 8

    phil just made my day

  • LakerKobe4Life

Kobe is a LAKER 4 LIFE. I really do hope and I’m really staying optimistic that the Lakers will make some big changes this offseason and that’ll convince Kobe he needs to stay with the Lakers til the end of his career.

  • Dynasty

i kinda feel sorry for mitch …dont you?? because we critized him the wrong way..i mean he was pretty close to getus garnett.or maybe he is close to getting us kg??..who knows but it’s not mitch’s fault..Sorry mitch

  • ryan

    Kobe=#1 player

    !!!!!!!!!Kobe Phil Garnett = DYNASTY!!!!!!!!

  • Lakers305

Yea right, PHil Jackson is just defending himself, Why do you think he doesn’t want kobe to go?? Because he knows if kobe goes, so will his chances of winning a 10th championship. So Phil is just defending his ass.

  • JSAHMAD

    lol of course
Yea right, PHil Jackson is just defending himself, Why do you think he doesn’t want kobe to go?? Because he knows if kobe goes, so will his chances of winning a 10th championship. So Phil is just defending his ass.
Did anyone noticed during the interview when the reporter asked Phil if the team comesback intact and Phil automatically says the team won’t be back that decision has already been made?

Phil Jackson has lost it, he is more concerned about his failed hips than Xs and Os. He thinks highly of Luke “Softie” Walton, and Luke is a bench player at best. He thought the Lakers were one key player away last year, who is he kidding? They were outmatched by every playoff team in the West Conference, easily.

The triangle is an outdated offense and Phil seems like he is fading. We have multiple players on the Lakers squad that start but should NOT be starting like Luke “Softie” Walton, Bynum, Kwame Brown, and last but not least Parker. Get rid of all these softies and get a new team. Phil, you have lost it and your pal Mitch have lost it, and the Buss family has lost it, everyone in the Lakers front office sucks. It is not that hard to make a trade, look at the multiple trades made on draft day, but for the lakers, “it is not easy to make trades”. It is because the Lakers front office has OVERRATED its own players.

All they have to do is go out and get Artest, trade Bynum, Odom and Walton for JO, and get on with it. For KG, trade whatever they want and bring in Artest. Hell, Phil even said it, he thought Rodman was the 7th PF they wanted, and he clearly was #1. Phil does not have an eye for talent, Mitch doesn’t and the Buss Family doesn’t, I would love to win the Powerball and buy out the Buss Family, and quickly make the trades (mentioned above) and fire the coach and fire ALL front office and start over. Keep Kobe, get KG, get Artest, and move on. Shit, Phil is paid $10 million to coach and lead, EARN your money, deal with KG, deal with Artest.

All Phil cares about is his failing hips, get rid of him and LISTEN to Kobe!!!!!!!! Get some new talent and get rid of those softies (luke, Odom, Bynum, Parker and others on this weak squad)!!!!!

ya. because its RIDICULOUS to worry about your personal health? hahaha. and im pretty sure that everyone else here. given the choice. would keep luke. the man is a genius on the court when it comes to knowledge of how to play the game. and im pretty sure youre calling an offense that has won 9 championships ineffective which is ridiculous. if run right. its genius. youre just one of those people that thinks they need it all right away. which isnt the way to run the team
