Phil knows how he will use Ron Artest

This is good news to hear from Phil. Recently, he spoke on Ron Artest and how he planned to utilize him in his system:

Sports Radio Interviews: On whether he knows how he’s going to use Ron Artest: “Yes I do. I’ve spent some time thinking about it. Ron has a real knack of being a top defender and an aggressive player on the defensive end of the court. I felt a couple of years ago when we were looking for some people that could help this team move up in the rankings from where we were, we entertained the idea of trying to get Ron on the team to bring that toughness and defensive mentality to our team. This is really an addition to our game that we think is important. Not to say that we’re not going to miss (Trevor) Ariza. We’re definitely going to miss Trevor in our game. There’s a certain sense of how he plays. He didn’t need a lot of shots, he didn’t need a lot of things run for him as a player to be happy and to contribute. His defensive capabilities and steals to get through picks and get back to his man were invaluable to us last year in the playoffs. But we think overall that we probably have a more balanced and difficult team to defend and to score against on this team. I think Ron’s going to be a really big addition to this team. Not only defensively, but he can do some things offensively that’ll be able to help our team and people will be surprised.”

IF PHIL HAS CONFIDENCE IN RON, THATS A GOOD SIGN FOR THE LAKERS. IF ANYONE COACH CAN HANDLE AN OUT OF CONTROL PLAYER, IT’S PHIL JACKSON.

Can you imagine what it must be like to be PJ? The combinations he can use on the court with the personnel he has must keep him up at night with a smile on his face. Another big man with great ball handling, that can shoot the ball, plays SOLID defense and is hungry for a title. I just got chills!!!!!

I’m sure the arrival of Artest is icing on the cake for PJ and his clean bill of health. He probably hasn’t been this excited about his Lakers since Malone and Payton were on his roster.

    Chris,
This quote really got me thinking about a lot of things. Great use of it, man.

I remember when Rodman first went to the Bulls in the fall of 1995. It was strange. The other Bulls didn’t know how to respond to him, or what to even say.

But Phil was good at working things out. And Jordan intimidated everybody, including Rodman.

There will be more adjustments perhaps than we realize. I just wish Tex was well, so that he would be around. Then I could be sure that it will all work out.

    Let’s talk soon.

All I want to see is Artest brining hard-nose, dedicated defense to the team and make this team more defense oriented. If Ron, Shannon, and Drew can suppy the defense, Kobe, Pau, Fish and Lamar can bring the offense. Great balance of players, we have everything we need on this team, size, strength, depth, experience, leadership, length, speed, versatility, and a new pitbull-like defensive machine in Ron-Ron whose gonna hound LBJ, Pierce, and Melo. The one thing I respect most of Artest is he’s always backing up his teammates and if anyone even thinks about trying to punk Kobe or anyone else, Ron will get right in their faces! I love that standing up for your team and Ron knows his role now and when he’s hungry and focused, he’s a BEAST alongside Kobe!
