Lakers Examiner: Last week, Phil Jackson told Dan Patrick that he would start a team with Dwight Howard over LeBron James, Chris Paul, or Dwyane Wade.
It kind of went under the radar, and I didn’t even really think about the implications until this weekend’s games. The Zen Master might be playing some of his patented mind games, but for argument’s sake let’s assume he’s being sincere.
I know all the Los Angeles Lakers fans out there are screaming, “hey what about Kobe Bryant!?!?” While I think Kobe is the best player in the game right now, his relative age makes it impossible to consider him over the younger superstars mentioned above. Sorry.
Howard seemed like a great place to start since it is much harder to find a skilled center (especially one as freakishly athletic as Howard) than it is to find a skilled perimeter player.
But then the playoffs came around, and this weekend’s games showed us exactly why Howard would NOT be the best pick to start a franchise.
