Phil Jackson on the NBA’s new “traveling” 2-step Rule

The NBA has made a new rule change in regards to traveling. Phil gave his thoughts on it. The legalization of the “crab dribble” has begun!

philLATimes: If you ask Jackson, the new rule under which players are allowed to take two steps before they have to stop, pass or shoot, is really nothing new.

“Well, I guess if you can’t call it, you just regulate it as a rule,” Jackson quipped about something players had been doing for years. “But, it’s really hard to digest that as a person that’s been in basketball for as long as I’ve been in basketball, that we’re just going to give in to this new rule of doing it.”

Jackson said he’s always been against the “two-step walk,” even mentioning how Reggie Miller used to catch the basketball and then go two steps back to get behind the three-point line for a shot.

Jackson said there has been a European style influencing the NBA in which players “guys pick it up and run a couple of steps with the ball.”

Jackson said he believes that a player’s footwork could become an issue with the new rules. He was asked whether the NBA will soon put in a rule allowing players to carry the basketball.

“Well, palming the ball or carrying the ball has been in our game for quite a while now,” Jackson said, adding that Allen Iverson “was probably the most egregious in that distinction. But the discontinue-dribble is the one to stop. When the rhythm of the basketball dribble stops, then there’s a definite advantage to the offensive player.”

This rule is soooooooooooo fukin stupid, y dont we just tell players do wat ever they want too. lebron will take so much advantage of this rule i bet u he is so happy right now, nba is getting weak yall, in 10 yrs nba is gonna lick nuts. and the dumbass replacement refs also call every damn thing, whistle after fukin whistle, they need to be makin the nba better and funner to watch not stupid tic tac fouls and now this stupid rule. They are making it soo easy now, imagine if michael jordan played on these rules, or magic, and other great players specialy in the 80s, they will have waaaaat better stats. i love basketball but NBA is making it less and less fun to watch.

Played at Collins Court at UCLA today. Two guys traveled, and got baskets, with a 2 step (which we recalled because of the ‘old’ rule). Trust me, if they allow the 2 step, NBA players will be 3 stepping.

It’s easy to run with the ball – not as easy to be forced to dribble. Maybe they should just eliminate the dribble entirely and see what happens … wait … that would be …. football.

COMMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING PALMING, TRAVELING, PUSHING AND SHOVING, NOT REALLY BASKETBALL ANYMORE. IF PALMING AND CARRYING THE BALL WAS CALLED LIKE IT SHOULD BE ALL THE MOVES THAT ARE BEING PUT ON THE DEFENDER WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING, ALSO HANDS OFF OFFENSE OR DEFENSE
