Phil chimed in on his chances of retirement.

SportingNews: Jackson: Well, I think it’s pretty good. It’s really about how I feel about getting into another 82 game season. It’s a commitment. As you guys know, it’s not about this last month of April, May, and part of June to coach. That’s exciting, fun, challenging, and you’ve got a team in a seven game series that brings out all those ideas and percolates things as a coach. But it’s those other 82 games, the exhibition season, and being in five different cities in eight different nights or seven different nights. It kind of wears and tears and kind of creates a life that gets a little bit ragged and a little bit jagged.

Obviously I have the pace of that. I know a lot about it, having done it for a large part of my life, maybe 35 years of my adult life. I’ve got a little bit of the rhythm of it, but it is something that I think about as the season gets to the end. You know, last road trip and stuff like that. You wonder, is there a time where you just feel like I’ve had enough, I just don’t want to do it anymore. It’s enough is enough

  • 3Peat

Don’t do it Phil, the journey isn’t complete until the 3peat.

  • BE_A_LakerFan

Phil you can leave after we win again in 2011. Not a day sooner. lol

    • 242LakerFan

Agreed. The Quadruple Triple needs to be accomplished first!

NO WAY GUYS! 3 PEAT ain’t no big thing for Zen Boy anymore! He’s gotta do something that even he hasn’t done yet… wait for it, wait for it… 4 PEAT!

This way, Phil will even outdo himself as a coach. Kobe will have 7 rings, and deliver the Lakers 1 more TITLE than the HATED ONES in Cockston! He, then, will truly be the greatest Laker ever ( even though most of us believe that already!).

Kobe will definitely go down as the G.O.A.T.! He will have 7, 1 more than Jordan. A 4 peat under his belt which is something that even his airness has never done!

    C’mon Phil, 3 more seasons! 4 PEAT, 4 PEAT, 4 PEAT, 4 PEAT!

    GO PHIL!!!!!!!!!
    GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!!
    GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget your ranch in Montana, buy one in AZ and retire there Felipe…

Let’s get the repeat this year! Then we can start talking about Three-peat and beyond. It would be extremely upsetting to me if “King James” and Chicago would try to take PJ from the Lakers, but there would be no way he would start over again at his age and why not try to make a mega legacy here in LA? With his comfy position here in LA, and dating the owner’s daughter I don’t see how or why he would leave LA.

Was this pic taken from when rudy-t coached us?

  • lakerman34

Lakers should hire Byron Scott as an assistant coach, and allow Byron to coach on the road while PJax coaches in LA.

no disrespect to b scott, but this franchise shouldn’t have to settle for that. b scott lost a playoff game (AT HOME) by close to 60 points! inexcusable.

i say, go after either gregg popovich, doug collins, kurt rambis, or heck, even give stu lantz a try.

That is disrespect to Byron Scott. I’d love to see him on the Lakers sideline. I believe his team lost that game. He wasn’t on the floor. They quit on him. Not to make an excuse for him, he has to take a chunk of the blame, but you can’t dismiss him for one crap game. As I recall, he also took the Nets to two straight Finals appearances and did a pretty good job with the Hornets for a while.
But you can’t have Coach by Committee. If Phil doesn’t think he can hack it physically, he’ll bow out. This is the NBA, not a Rec League. If and when Phil leaves, I think either Scott or Rambis would be great replacements.
(I think that may even be why Rambis took that Minor League assignment.)
