Lakers Examiner: It’s no secret that Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson has been flirting with the idea of Shannon Brown replacing Jordan Farmar as the team’s backup point guard.

Brown has come in before Farmar in each of the Lakers’ last three games, playing more minutes than Farmar in all three.

It now seems as if Jackson has officially left Farmar for the more physically impressive Brown, at least for the first round of the playoffs…

With bigger guards, muscular guards that are pushing the ball, there’s a real need or potential for Shannon to help us in the playoffs. He’s got to still make some steps forward, but tonight is another example of things going well for him.

It’s nothing Jordan’s doing wrong. It’s just something we’re looking for that’s different.

Man, Phil might as well have reached into Farmar’s chest and ripped his heart out.

Adios Farmer… Hola Brown! 3 years with the Lakers and no improvements. Brown, on the other hand, has shown improvements in a short amount of time. Please make us look good in the play offs and don’t pull a 180 when they resign you like space cadet, Fluke and Vujabrick.

Im not saying Farmar is done, but he needs to realize that he needs to improve and play SOLID–I think he took backing up Fish for granted, Brown is good, but I hope he lights a fire under Farmars ass.
Playoffs are about to start, EVERYBODY needs to bring their “A” game.
We all know farmar can play much better and thats all I want, at least for playoffs–same goes for sasha and luke.

Thank you…I’ve always said Farmar was not the one! About time they realized it. Mihm, Vlad, now Farmar down. That leaves Zasha and Fluke to go!

When I see farmar play now and how he lost his back up point to Shannon, I ask…”What is he doing wrong?”….Then I ask myself…”What is he doing right?”. He hasn’t improved, in fact he has gone to a space cadet roll now. He needs to snap out of it. I don’t think Phil needs him to score a bunch of points but to defend which he doesn’t do well and set up his teamates that he rarely does. I mostly see him trying to make a 3 pointer. I do see Shannon going to the basket and dishing off.

so much for the pg of the future. thank god. the only team that farmar is good enough to be the pg of the future for is the D-fenders.

  • Michael_23

Farmar hasn’t been playing good basketball even before Shannon Brown took over. I don’t know if it’s the surgery that bothered him, but Farmar has lost some confidence in his shot and has defense hasn’t been doing well.

Sorry to say but Shannon Brown has gotten the 2nd string PG, Congratz to him.

I haven’t seen the last few games..but is Phil bringing Brown off the bench before Farmar?

  • gugy

PJ mind games. Hopefully will work and Farmar will give his heart to win the position back.
Competition is a good thing. Wakes up individuals and force them to do their best.

Hey Phil Jackson…You Canning Farmar To Bring Shannon Brown Out First… Is Like Your Replacing Pau Gasol With One Of The Lakers Girls… No Offense Girls…..

    EGAWDS R U Crazy…… Phil:P

  • mr.laker19

I love Farmar as a player but he has hit a plateau as far as his game. This is the right move at the time. Even though Farmar has played well in the playoffs at times in the past years. But he also has played bad (cough, Deron Williams last year) But hopefully this will motivate him but upgrade our bench

    I Love You Jordan :*

I’ve had some comments in our twitter about Jordan’s knee not being at full strength, but I just think he’s peaked his potential. We all needed him when Phoenix was running and gunning to contain Steve Nash, but now that the Suns suck and there are no real teams with an ultra-quick point guard, there is no need for jordan. I’d package him with someone for some draft picks so we can start building for the future, especially someone Kobe can groom as his apprentice.

oops . . . left the wrong twitter account :) . . admin – please change for me

  • trademaster 2009

i think brown is getting more minutes and is chipping a little bit out of everyone in the rotation. he also plays some 2 guard so he is taking some of sasha and kobe’s minutes. we need to have a 12 man rotation in the first round, an 11 man rotation in the conference semi finals, a 10 man rotation in the conference finals, and a 9 man rotation in the finals

there still are lightning quick point/combo guards, tony parker, derrick rose, eric gordon, monta ellis, devin harris, nate robinson, rajon rondo, marvin williams, daniel gibson, aaron brooks

again . . there are no REAL teams with an ultra quick point guard . . . I think Shannon is quick enough to guard Rondo . . . and did you say Marvin Williams? . . i think you meant Mo Williams, right? well . . ok, i’ll give you that one. . . . jordan can guard boobie and babbling brooks

exactly, people are far to quick to make assumptions. I agree that Shannon is probably better coming off the bench right now ahead of Jordan especially since Phil loves the big guards, but Shannon isn’t going to be running your team and your offense. Jordan can do that, and it’s not something you want to throw away so easily.

Thank you…I’ve always said Farmar was not the one! About time they realized it. Mihm, Vlad, now Farmar down. That bleaves Zasha and Fluke to go!

I feel ya on Farmar and to some degree Sasha, but completely disagree with you about Luke. Sure he has a sad jumper, but that’s not what Phil loves about him. It’s all about ball movement. The triangle needs to move the ball with passing and not dribbling. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see Luke coaching an NBA team down the road. He’s has that good of a basketball IQ. Now that Drew is back and Odom is on the floor with Luke at the same time, the bench mob is back to the way things were at the beginning of the season. The addition of Shannon Brown now helps us against the likes of Deron Williams, Tony Parker and CP3. Think of Brown guarding the likes of Mo Williams in the NBA Finals. Drew is back, Ariza is healthy and Brown is coming on strong. What’s that spell? 2009 Champs! Ya, Baby!

  • Jason4rmLA

Jordan Farmar look lost on the sidelines!! LMAO!!

Everytime Shannon dunks the ball or even scores, Jordan doesn’t clap for shit!! You can tell that he’s jealous

  • JC

Damn PJ – That’s cold… Quit hatin no Farmar. – he’s got skillz and we WILL need him in the playoffs…

  • kobe-wan kenobi

    pjax just saying the truth
    shannon can play good D
and shares the ball more the farmar which never passes the ball…

  • BostonBlowsMyBalls

The only 2 complaints I have about Brown are that:

    1. When he inbounds the balls, he always walks the ball up the court and takes his time. I would rather see him push the ball and give us more time in the shot clock.

    2. On offense, he still looks a little lost. He would roam around the 3 pt line and sometimes stand around. It would be better if he’s slashing or try to get open “moving without the ball”.

IM SORRY BUT ALL OF YOU THROWING EVERYHING AT FARMAR NEED TO SHUTUP!! LAST SEASON FARMAR HAD A GREAT YEAR INCLUDING IN PLAYOFFS!!
wHO WAS THERE TO ATLEAST GIVE US A CHANCE IN THOSE TWO YEARS WE GOT BEAT BY THE SUNS, WHEN SMUSH WAS MESSING UP.IT WAS FARMAR WHO STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE. FARMAR CAN ONE DAY BE A SOLID STARTER. bUT FOR SOME ODD REASON HE HAS BEEN PLAYING INEFFECTIVeLY this season, mAYBE IT WAS THE INJURY TO HIM EARLIER THIS SEASON!! bUT OTHER THAN THAT PLEASE SHUT UP AND STOP SAYING THAT HE HASNT DONE ANYTHING,THIS SEASON I CAN AGREE THAT HAS SLACKED EVER SINCE HIS SURGERY.BUT HE WILL BE BACK AND GAIN HIS CONFIDENCE,BUT FOR NOW I LOVE SHANNON BROWNS DEFENSIVE MIND-SET AND HIS ABILITY TO SLASH AND SHOOT THE 3-POINT. AND I AGREE THAT HE SHOULD BACK UP FISHER RIGHT OUT THE BENCH. with shannon brown being a good back up then that means we even have a deeeper bench going into the playoffs!

  • http://yahoo.com Kwame Brown

there goes another “BROWN” discussion on Lakersnation! lol

IF FARMARS PLAY WAS AS GOOD AS GREAT AS HIS EGO THERE WOULDNT BE ANY DOUBT ABOUT HIS PLAYING TIME!———————CAVALIERS PLAYER VAREJAO WAS ELBOWED IN THE GROIN BY RAY ALLEN AND HE DIDNT EVEN FLINCH! HIS NEW NICKNAME SHOULD BE VAREGINA! I CAN HEAR THE CHANTS NOW(LIKE LAST YEARS D.U.I.) …VAR-EH-GINA………..CLAP-CLAP……….CLAP-CLAP-CLAP….VAR-EH-GINA………CLAP-CLAP……..CLAP-CLAP-CLAP !!!!!!!!!!!!SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • benchmobbiatch

First of all, everyone gets into somewhat of a slump at one point in their career. Secondly, PJ just likes to play around with different set ups. He hasn’t “broken up” with Farmar. It’s like Pretty Ricky said in the Pre-game show on Sunday, “sometimes a player feels as if he doesn’t need improvement. if that is the case, it helps them when they see someone else take their minutes and make things happen.” Hopefully Jordan will get the clue and play like his old self again. He was the spark off the bench and we need that spark back! Don’t lose hope for him. Lastly, Shannon Breezy’s brand new and his contract ends at the end of this season, of course he’s gonna play his ass off so we will wanna sign him. Isn’t that how it always goes?
