Jermaine O’NealPeter Vecsey came on NBA TV and announced that JO to LA in a few weeks.

Interesting stuff, we know management will now “do something, and do it now,” but will they get desperate and “settle” for a trade? We can only hope they can put together an attractive offer as Vecsey did not give us any details.

One thing I’ve noticed about Vescey is that he has broke many deals:
- Artest for Peja
- Harrington to GS
- Magloire to Milwaukee which NO denied and then made the deal.

It appears when Vecsey is giving strictly “movement reports” – he’s been very accurate. Something to think about… hmmm…

Not a bad thing but J.O. isn’t enough really, you need to pick up more players in the puzzle they are in. Rashard Lewis Free Agent would be great and can help the team out. Mo Willams is also nice for a pick up but we need more. Brown still a good trade because teams could pick him up because he has just one year left on his contract or waive the guy. Maybe like Artest would be a great trade for Brown but pretty unlikely Kings are going to do that just because they don’t want to trade with the Lakers in the first hand. But who knows, things can change and the up side for both team is that Lakers get a good defender and scorer and Kings doesn’t have to worry about the CAP and start all over with Bibby……

  • Just_A_Laker_Fan

Oh yeah one more thing, if the Lakers were willing to trade Odom and Bynum for Jermaine, I rather get Garnett if that trade is possible. The difference between the two, Garnett has a lot of heart and willingness to play through pain just to win the games. Jermaine doesn’t have that luster in him or hasn’t really shown it. But yeah, Garnett needs to ask for a trade in order to do so, but highly unlikely to happen becuase knowing Garnett he still to the team like crazy glue. Most likely Jermaine looks like a highly player to go to the Lakers in a trade. Might be the only trade that is going to happen but they do need to pick up players.

It’d be nice to have Jermaine, but whoever said Rashard Lewis… that guy is looking for a fat contract. Yea that’s not possible for the Lakers to sign him. Although Artest and Jermaine would add a lot of defense for the Lakers. And we already have the best offensive weapon ever. But I doubt the Kings would trade a player to a division rival, unless they are that desperate to rebuild.

  • Soysauce43

    speechless?

  • Jay

How about picking up Bonzi for MLE

After he bombed the free agency and did nothing with the Rockets, he’s forgotten.

He’d probably sign a 1 year deal to advertise himself, similiar to the situation with the Rockets. The difference is, he’ll join a Laker team whos struggling for tough people and people that can score.

    Bonzi brings both.

  • Laker_fan1824

I’d have to agree with dan. JO and Ron Artest would be a big defensive help. I think we should keep Lamar. All we need is at least a decent point guard, but dont get your hopes on mo willIAMS HE WILL cost to much money.lewis would be to much as well.

OK!!! It’s time for a lesson…first off, Garnett or O’neal would hurt the Lakers more than help. They would not have to trade Lamar, Bynum, and Vujacic plus a future pick. On top of that…they would not have the salary cap to pick up Luke, whom is now a free agent. They would not be able to pay any other free agents for that matter. So they would have two GREAT players…surrounded by slack role players. This equals another first round heartbreak!!! Now what the Lakers need to do is aquire Zack Randolph by trading Bynum and Vujacic, since Portland won’t be needing his service now with that monster Greg Oden! He will not cost as much as KG or O’neal…which would leave some salary cap to resign Walton and pick up a possible Artest for Odom and Brown deal… which the Kings actually asked the Lakers for!!! This would leave the team like this…

    Starters…
Jordan Farmar (4.4 ppg 1.7 rpg and 1.8 apg)
Kobe Bryant (31.6 ppg 5.7 rpg and 5.4 apg)
Luke Walton (11.4 ppg 5 rpg and 4.3 apg)
Ron Artest (18.8 ppg 6.5 rpg and 3.4 apg)
Zack Randolph (23.6 ppg 10.1 rpg and 2.2 apg)

This would be a killer defensive unit plus a team that will be able to score at least 90 ppg. Farmar would have to step up his game since Smush Parker is getting cut. Luke should bring a good all around role presence to the squad. Artest can play back seat to Kobe and will add alot of toughness! Randolph would have to get use to not touching the ball every trip down the floor but he will be a great compliment to Kobe! This is a Deep Playoff team, and with a couple of additions from the draft and free agent pool this can very easily become a champion caliber unit!!!

This is a welcome and nice sign for us Laker fans. At this point, any move is good especially one that brings us a bona fide number 2 player. Even better that it’s someone Kobe considers a good buddy. The Lakers need to make it happen. Hopefully it won’t take both LO and Bynum. They should really try to hold on to one of the two. Kwame and Andrew is fine, and Kwame and Lamar would be fine as well. Clublakers has a bunch of scenarios thrown out and discussed at length. I just think this is a really good thing for the Lakers at this juncture. They’ve got to appease Kobe and it would be nice to have another legit player here. I was more in favor of Gasol personally because he’s more of a low post guy, but whatever … JO will make Kobe happier and that’s the main thing. Of course I think most of us would rather have Garnett but what can you do? He isn’t doing what Kobe is, and since he isn’t a trade is not going to happen at this time. Take what you can get now.

Finally! Something good to read about regarding the Lakers. I hope that this Peter Vecsey individual is RIGHT about Jermaine O’Neal coming on board with the Lakers. At this point, I think the Lakers will take anyone who can help the team contend for a championship. Yes, I know everyone’s deepest desire is to see Kevin Garnett in a Lakers uniform, but I think Jermaine O’Neal is just as good and it is better than doing nothing at all to improve this offseason. IF this happens to turn into a realistic situation, the first thing the Lakers must do is try and negotiate a way where they have the chance of keeping Lamar Odom when they acquire O’Neal. I think that if the Lakers give up Odom in the process of trading for O’Neal, then it won’t be worth it. With Odom, he can be that third player who can play alongside Kobe and Jermaine. His unselfish nature and passing ability will only compliment the Lakers if they were to get Jermaine O’Neal. So the bottom line for me is, IF the Lakers can acquire O’Neal without sacrificing Odom, then the Lakers will be better ready to contend for a championship.

    Lakers roster:

    C- O’Neal
    F- Odom
    F- Walton
    G- Bryant
G- Farmar (or a new acquisition)

Bench: Mihm, Evans, Turiaf, possibly Sasha, possibly Radmanovic, Shammond, possibly Cook

  • http://getgarnett.com Maiton

If the lakers can get a solid PG via free agent(Mo), they should pick a forward/center that can score down low during the 2007 draft.Once they have JO alongside a solid low post scorer and defender(drft pick), and a PG who can avg around 7-9 assists per game and score 9-12ppg(Tinsley), they can really win 50-55games next season.

  • Boogie

i think LO and future first round pick for JO will be fair enough, maybe some other guy from roster like Shamonnd or Sasha.

  • ZenMaster

Some of you guys are crazy. This was said earlier but the Lakers need to *keep* Lamar. They should trade Bynum and others to get O’neal. Then potentially they can pick up R. Lewis or Artest using other means.

The bottom line is that Lamar should stay. He is an amazing player, just not a consistant scorer. With O’neal, Kobe, and possibly Artest/Lewis on the floor, the lakers won’t need another scorer and Lamar will be free to do his drive and kick thing.

Go Lakers! Make the move NOW!

Well lets look this way, we know Garnett most likely won’t ask for a trade because that is not his nature. Most likely be an opt out of his contract and becomes a free agent by then. But you never know really, anything could happen really he just might ask for a trade?? But back to my point, let say Lakers pick up Jermaine on a trade, probably including Lamar and Bynum. The team is so so, not to the full strength or deep in the western conference. Say Lakers again traded Brown to the Kings for Artest, now we are getting somewhere adding depth to the team with defense and offense. Say Garnett does opts out and say goes to the Lakers… Now look at your line up

    Point: Jordan Farmar
    Shooting: Kobe
    Small Foward: Artest
    Power Fower: Garnett
    Center: Jermaine

Pretty scary right especially seeing Jermaine and Garnett down low. You know they are going to be at that paint and have a difficult time to get in that paint. Also having Artest down there can make a lot of trouble too with his defense. But yes, the trade has to happen and the other teams has to comply to the trades we are going to do. I still think they are going to go over the cap this year just to make Kobe happy which, in that case pick up someone up like Rashard Lewis even though he wants a long contract and more money. Maybe they can talk something about the price with Rashard. Mo Willams is also nice addition or Gerald Wallace. But they reall need to go over the cap to do this pick up which might be possible because they need to make Kobe happy. But will see I suppose…..

  • Toine

Eff this!! Forget about JO for a minute, Kobe asked for a trade AGAIN… http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/46315/20070531/bryant_again_says_he_wants_out/

  • Just_A_Laker_Fan

I think when Kobe talked to Phil something was is in the works. Yes we want Kobe to stay, I sort think it’s more like a push in the front office to do something or else….. I really don’t think he is leaving although I hatred to hear him say that we wanted out. But I do hope that I am right and that he is really just pushing the Lakers Office to go get those players and do it now. I agree with Kobe to be the best team and to win and go to the finals the time is now and not 4 or 6 years from now. They (Lakers) did it their way and went all wrong, now they are paying for it.

  • Bigair

i think the best that LAL can do is building a team around phil jackson and not around kobe…cuz kobe is just the greatest player actually..but phil jackson is the greastest coach ever!

  • Laker_Fan_obv

I think that Kobe will be traded for Tim Duncan, Ginobili, Parker e Bowen and they will be the next champions obv. Oh and Kobe will score 38ppg(with 35% and 40 field goal attemps) with the number 8 in the San Antonio Spurs, but Spurs record will be 12-70 and in the 12 wins Kobe is injured xD

  • lakerfan81

Umm some of these signs and trades that people are suggesting are rather dumb. First of all the lakers cant really sign free agents, not because they are not willing to pay (I dont know if they are) but because the league won’t allow it. They can only sign for the mid level exceptance and players like rashard lewis and mo williams are not going to sign for that.

Second you can make trades that match salary cap but the other team has to be willing to go for the trade as well.
If i cold make up fantasy signs and drafts then how about this.

    PG billups (sign MLE)
    SG: KObe
    SF: Walton
    PF: Odom
C: Garnett (but technically for his salary the lakers would technically pretty much have to trade odom, but this is fantasy right

the best passing front court ever to step foot on a basketball court and a great defensive player and clutch shooter at point

but enough fantasy. Trading odom and Bynum for oneal doesnt really solve anything it might make kobe happy (along with making changes in the front office) but is a line up of

    PG ???? farmar
    SG Kobe
    SF Walton
    PF Oneal
    C Mihm/Brown ????//

any better than what we have now. maybe a little but not enough to beat the spurs or the suns or dallas or utah

i agree on this. since our chances of getting garnett are low, i like the idea of o’neal and artest. it’s better than nothing and like everyone should assume, it will make kobe please that the organization is doing something right for a change. for the decent pt. guard, i say jordan famar is good enough to go at point. he has a decent three point shooting, he can handle the ball, he can pressure for the steal during inbound and with a starting line, i agree that will be the show

LUKE WALTON AND BRIAN COOK FOR ARTEST!!THEN KWAME,BYNUM,FUTURE DRAFT PICK AND SASHA FOR JERMAINE. THEN NEXT SUMMER GARNETT WILL OPT OUT SO HE WILL THEN SIGN WITH THE LAKERS FOR A MINIMUM. NOW I CAN SEE A 3 PEAT OR 2PEAT WITH THAT LINE-UP.

  • http://Myspace.com WHS15

O’neal we gotta find someway to keep Odom because just in case we don’t get Artest we can have a 3 good player Odom, Oneal, and Kobe of course, Which will make us a contender in my opinion but for a big man O’neal Shoots 47 percent Career wise, that’s not really Impressive for a big man who should be shooting more than 57 percent at most even more than that, but the impressive thing about this young man is that He’s a Defensive minded Person good Rebounder Very Talented and Versitile, I love his passion O’neal and Kobe and Odom and if we get Artest man i say we are the champs already Man that would BE SICK!!!! if we can find a way to keep Odom maybe a Three Team Trade thing goes on Between Boston, Indiana, and LA yep Boston would trade Delonte West, Wally, and Al Jefferson and Indiana Trades O’neal, Tinsely, and Jeff Foster, then We trade Bynum, Walton, and cook we get O’neal and West and the other teams get what they want lol anyway just a suggestion.

actually lakers dont have to give that much up. Rumors say PAcers headcoach next year mite be Stan Van Gundy. Larmar noes Stan’s game plan when he was on the HEat. So pacers mite just be asking for larmar. But i guess lakers can just throw in a draft pick for safety reasons..

Here’s the deal, the Lakers should forget about Kevin Garnett at this point because he is too much for the Lakers to afford and definitely focus on Jermaine O’Neal. If both teams are willing to make a deal, the Lakers should do everything in their power to keep Lamar Odom from being shipped to Indiana. The Lakers won’t be any good than they are if they had to sacrifice Odom, but if Lamar was kept, the Lakers would be that much better. So the Lakers need to find a way to keep Lamar if a trade occurs. Also, another option the Lakers can look at is Artest, I think the Lakers should take a shot at acquiring Artest in a deal packaged around Kwame Brown. Then the Lakers should make sure to keep Ronny Turiaf, Jordan Farmar and resign Luke Walton by any means necessary. With this possible core of players, the Lakers would become an imediate contender with Phil Jackson leading the way.

As much as Kobe, Garnett and JO look, we don’t have the cap space. Sometimes I wish this was baseball and we could spend what ever we wanted. The realistic look is JO for Lamar and Bynum, but they would have to take Browns contract. With JO, we no longer need the pay that extra 8 mil. With that extra 8 mil we can go get a real PG. like MO Williams. Did you know Nash only make about 10-11 mil?

ok lets be relaistic. One, the lakers can’t afford JO and KG both to be on the same team with kb. two, JO alone will not be the answer. THEY NEED MORE HELP. To get JO the pacers will want, Andrew Bynum (FOR SURE), probaly LO and then a draft pic (either 1st or 2nd). Now the lakers are lookin at a 2nd round (maybe) playoff team.

After this is settled away and JO is sealed the lakers should most definately go after Artest. For artest they may have to give up kwame and luke.

So now there lookin pretty decent with a possible western conference finals appearance. But, i feel they should also some way (but i dont know how) get Pau Gason who wants out of Memphis really bad.

Some may ask (including myself) how the heck will LA ever get this many good players. Well, they are LA and lets look at the NY Knicks, hugeeeeeee salaries on that team.

We will all wait and see but im excited

  • punkjones

    Ricky –
I’m with you all the way, but if you don’t give up Lamar for JO it’s got to be Kwame Brown for the salaries and for the lure of his expiring contract. Otherwise Indy doesn’t get enough back. JO makes 18 mil a year right now. Kwame is still only 9.1 so even then you’ve got to include other filler (Rad at 5 mill or Cook at 3) to got with Bynum at 2 mill. So if the Lakers are smart and can keep LO they’ve got to give up Kwame for JO. That means no Kwame for Artest. If the Lakers want to take the risk with Artest, and I’m not sure they really need to if they have both JO and LO (Wow!!), then they’d have to trade Luke. Again, I’m not sure I’d take that risk right now. If you get JO and it looks likely the Lakers will do so unless they somehow manage to stick their foot in it, they will have done enough to both appease Kobe and the fans. If you add in Artest, even with his great defense, you’re absolutely running the risk of BLOWING UP your team. To me, right now, I think Artest is purely a desperation move. You only do it if you can’t pull off a trade for a superstar. If you get the superstar, you focus on getting a decent point guard and call it a day. We will still have a very good bench with Farmar, Evans, Turiaf and either Cook (who sucks but is ok for bench scoring role), or Vlad (who has more talent but is still really a backup guy).

  • Alex

Alrite would people stop talking about trading for JO without including Odom and Bynum, because its not gonna happen, Odom is the cornerstone of the deal, and the pacers are not goin to relinquish JO without a 7 footer in return whether it be Kwame adn his big contract or Bynum and his potential, and no Brian Cook wont work either, then the if the contracts work the first round pick will prolly have to be added, I live in Indiana and I know for a fact that Larry Bird and the Pacers legitimately think for some reason that they have a pretty good team built, so they’re not gonna throw Jermaine away for scrubs and PROLLY not for Vlads contract either(they already got Murphy and Dunleavy’s bad cont.). This is just a different perspective, but don’t count on keeping those two, and also STOP THINKING YOU CAN SIGN RASHARD LEWIS AND TRADE KWAME STRAIGHT UP FOR ARTEST. The world does not revolve around making your team great…

  • Alex

Lastly your owner has said that he does not want to exceed luxury tax threshold and you think it possible to do these crazy moves AND sign Mo Williams (who will demand atleast the midlevel exception), adn Grant Hill(who wont play for pennies). Your cap ablities are kinda tight so trades will be one of hte only avenues, and Crittenton would be a nice pick up if you hold on to the 19th pick

GET GARNETT!!!! KOBE, PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL GARNETT!!! Make it happen. Garnett for Odom and Bynum is worth it. JO for Odom and Bynum is NOT worth it. GET GARNETT

if they trade for Oneal, they should give odom up for him. odom deserves to stay a laker. hes been playing injured for so long and hes been fighting down low and constanlty gettin hit but he never gave up and scored like 30 points in their last game. if they trade for oneal, i think they should go for the bynum, brown, radmonovich, mckie and vujacic deal where they get oneal and tinsley

    Pay up Buss!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RC

First, Odom needs to go, he is too injury riddled and has not provided anything of interest in 3 FREAKIN years. Secondly, Garnett is a PATHETIC LOSER, he only won when he had passionate players around him like Cassell and Sprewell, Garnett thrived when he was one of 3 decent players. Garnett is a LOSER for not coming out like Kobe, I give Kobe credit, he aired his dissatisfaction and I respect/admire him for throwing Kupchak and Jim Buss under the bus, I wish the bus could stay over them two.

Third, the Lakers should go after J. O’Neal (at least he wants to leave and play for a winner UNLIKE Garnett), and give up Odom, Bynum (let’s face it he is a overrated PROJECT), 19th pick and preferrably Cook. Next, go quickly after Ron Artest (trade softie Luke Walton and Cook if he doesn’t go to Indiana), to have a reunion with JO and he ALSO wants to play for the Lakers. Next, go after a decent point guard that can shoot from the outside and can GUARD Mr. dribble dribble dribble Steve OVERRATED Nash.

Thus, you would have the following lineup:

    PG–Decent PG to be acquired
SG–Bryant (the real MVP and the fan’s MVP)
    SF–Artest
    PF–O’Neal
    C–Mihm

Bench players to keep: Farmar, Mo. Evans, Turiaf, Radmanovic, and other bench players to be acquired including C, PF, and another SF and PG.

With Bryant, Artest and JO, you have strong nucleus on both offense and defense. I would love to see Z. Randolph (to insert over Mihm) as well, but salary cap and available assets may be an issue with acquiring JO.

We really need help. Here would be a good thing.
    pg – M Williams
    sg – K Bryant
    sf – L Walton
    pf – J ONeal
    c – C Webber

    Now this sounds good right.
