Pau Gasol receives FIBA Europe Player Of The Year Award

grFIBA: On Thursday Spain introduced the 2009 edition of their national team to the public, and began by honoring two of Europe’s brightest stars. FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin was on hand to present Pau Gasol and Ricky Rubio with the 2009 FIBA Europe Player of the Year and Young Men’s Player of the Year Awards respectively.

“Pau and Ricky are two of the most exciting players in the world, and it will be a pleasure to see both of them on the floor together in Poland at EuroBasket 2009,” commented Zanolin.

“They represent the best of European basketball both on and off the court.”

“I’m honoured to receive this distinction in a year that has been really special for me,” said Gasol who won his first NBA title in June with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“I’m proud to be at the top of a list with so many great players.”

    GOOD FOR PAU…..
BUT THIS IS REALLY MAKING ME START TO HATE PROFESSIONALL SPORTS EVEN MORE. WHETHER ITS BUSS OR ODOMS FAULT, ITS ALL EGOS. THEYRE ALL A BUNCH OF TOOLS!!!!!!!!!! HAVE YOU SEEN BUSS LATELY? HES SO FREAKING OLD. I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED IF HE THINKS ODOM HAS ALREADY RESIGNED AND ITS A DONE DEAL

  • CELTICS BLOW

The consummate professional…………with him we win again, hard working and walks the walk, well deserved.

Pau is quickly becoming my favorite Laker. Of course, KB is still number one. But you have to love Pau’s approach to the game. Dude is skilled beyond belief! Seriously. In a game against the Suns early last season I saw him do a left-handed, hook shot, from an angle, banked off the corner of the backboard. It was pure beauty!

Gasol has such a strong skill set that he will be a valuable contributor well into his 30s. If he were asking for a five year deal at age 30 it would be a no brainer.

Anyway, I’m am starting feel like no news is bad news regarding Lamar. I guess it is what it is folks.

Dude.. Pau is getting Yoked..If I hope he’ll pick up the banging post game up. Thats mad dope.. Perkins, Dwight, & all those foos gonna have a little more trouble pushing Pau around.

Hopefully Bynum is working out hard. He needs to be physically and mentally strong. This is Bynums redemption year. We need to hear more news about Drew, dude.

I think the lakers should come up with a package of picks say a 1st and 2nd, plus farmar (exp contract), for rubio

Thats a fair deal for both sides considering rubio doesn’t want to play in Minn and they’re already guard heavy to begin with. And with Mchale out of the picture dealing with Minn should be much simpler

  • Lakers 4 Life

Doesn’t Pau look like Rubio’s dad? And responding to PurpsNGold, I think Bynum should go on juice. Lakers 2010 champs and Kobe best player alive!

  • Robert

Best player in the world (KB24), best player in the NBA (KB24), best player in Euro (Gasol). How can we go wrong?

Champions forever! (or at least, for 5 more years).

    #1 Forget Odom’s a$$

#2 Funny thought but trade for Rubio and we have a slashin PG. Fisher never drives. Almost never. Shot creation is actually the Lakers’ weakness, as mentioned by many sports analysts. Other than Kobe, they have no one that creates offense off the dribble (LO doesn’t do that, he just drives). Famar is the next closest player in that category. Let’s see if Mitch can pull some magic if LO doesn’t come back.

#3 If LO were to resign, the Laker don’t really have trouble at 4 or 5 spots. If you compare Gasol + Bynum + Odom, no other team can match the talent of this trio. Garnett + Perkins + Wallace? No. Dwight + Bass + Gortat? No. Shaq + Z + Varejao? No. Duncan + Ratliff + McDyess? No.
