Pau Gasol demanding trade on his website – ala Kobe?

This has been posted on Pau’s official website for quite some time, and I never really want to post it here until now. Considering we’ve drafted Pau’s brother and Kobe & Gasol had a nice private meeting in Spain a few weeks ago. I think it’s worth mentioning. Check it (note: it’s in Spanish):

Pau’s Gasol’s website: ‘If they want to keep me that bad, they need to make the necessary effort to surround me with players capable of competing at the highest level. I want to be on a wining team, with ambitions and options, and have the chances I didn’t have last year.”

And before people start trying to connect the dots, remember that we had KG’s cousin here last season. Doesn’t really affect anything, but def. worth mentioning now.

• lakerfan81

Could be a good pick up for the lakes if they can’t get garnet. He’s a great offensive player, not spectacular defensively but if you can get for Bynum and Brown or odom and future picks, he would definitely be an upgrade.

• lakersforlife77

DO IT NOW. I mean I love the idea of Garnett still. But we could get Pau Gasol a lot easier and probably without having to devestate our line up as bad. In a few years we can have the Gasol duo, noones messing with that frontcourt :D

• http://ld2k.com LD2k

It would be interesting if we can land Gasol for cheap and perhaps keep Odom.

Odom Kobe Gasol Gasol. Yeah :)

• ayaz3d

not to start anything but did anyone notice the picture. It was a LAKER!! Kwame Brown I think. HAHA. The signs are going well. Well Pau is a great Player, if we can give up Bynum and Brown, I say do it now mitch. a Line-up of Pau, Odom, Luke, Kobe, and Prolly Theo. That would be big.

• LAalltheway

True. A Pau/Lamar duo may be better than KG himself, if we can pull it off. Although what attracts me most about KG is his hunger, which is unparalleled in this league. He’s still my first choice, but let those fuckers in minnesota sit on their losing franchise. They held out for way too much.

• Dynasty

lets make a move for him!

go lakers!!

• lakersfan17

KG who?Gasol will be great!!!!!!!

• xxlakerxboixx

i think we should get gasol rather than JO…Indy is asking too much for him.

• KEEPbynum

i say give up lamar to get pau. that way. in a few years you have a frontcourt of drew and pau? a defensive stopper in the middle paired with a scoring machine from the post? along with kobe on the perimeter? definitely something to look into

• KBisDarthVader

if we could keep LO, gasol might be worth a shot…still, i dont think his highness would be appeased by a trade for gasol, so in the end, kobe would probably still want out and we will have lost bynum

• LAalltheway

Not a bad suggestion, keepbynum. They would probably have to ask Kobe which duo would get him to stay.

• daboss1848

That’s exactly why Mcfail is in the situation he is in now. He thinks he’s going to get like 5 lottery picks or a 1st team all-nba player in some multi-team trade HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
He needs to face reality and quit trying to get these amazing trades, no trade of a superstar like Garnett has been great. Look at moses malon wilt chamberlain Kareem adul-Jabaar, Shaquille Oneal, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson. Sometimes you just have to get them out of there, something McFail doesn’t seem to understand. You think “well if he’s not going to get anything good for him why trade him?”, well because McFail has had 12 years to build a team around him and ultimately failed(lol), so the least he could do is send him to a team that cares.

true. and i dont know how the lakers would be able to pry pau away from memphis with just lamar and kwame. its not like we’d be able to trade a point. memphis just made a hell of a pick in mike conley

• lakersforlife77

Well it’s not as bad if we give up lamar for pau, he is much better than jo, but lamar for jo, that is lunacy(you idiot Bird you don’t know what the hell you’re doing either). So if you have to give lmar I still pull the trigger on that, and then try to make some other trades with a sign and trade luke walton or a kwame brown if we don’t involve him.

• KBisDarthVader

we could not get pau without giving up bynum. even if we could, kobe would still want out, there is no way he is going to settle for a line-up of pau and drew down low when KG and JO were on the market. even though its not neccisarily possible or a good idea to trade for either KG or JO, kb wont care…he wants at least one proven allstar on the roster before he would allow his lacky bucher to say “kobe’s camp is ‘pausing’ about the trade demand”

• lakersforlife77

Well that’s a big duh on giving up bynum there I mean this is Pau Gasol here, much better than jo trust me :D

• KEEPbynum

i think we all still need to remember now that if we ARE going to get kg, pau, or jo, that we have until september. theres no pressure on getting a deal done before the draft anymore to give up picks. focus on packaging kwames expiring contract and picks for next years draft which i believe to be a guard heavy class. and honestly. i cant even count the number of guards that the lakers have right now

• lakersfan17

Krummy and Bynum for Gasol should do it.

probably true. but if the basketball gods somehow did let it happen. i think we would be set. i mean. the frontcourt would be EXTREMELY upgraded. you have a star in the making in my opinion at the point in jordan. you have kobe. and i really believe that with luke healthy that youre not going to miss lamar much on the perimeter as long as we can add a few MINOR pieces for the bench that can shoot it. guys like luther head

• Baller4Life

trade Brian Cook, Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol. i did it on the trade machine and it worked. so i would do that trade.

• ryan

for the love of god, please, just let us get someone!

• _HuStLiN_PhEnOm_

I know this is highly unlikely but how bout this: We trade Cook and Kwame for gasol. We keep Bynum and Lamar then we can make a push for KG. :) KG, KB, Pau= SHOWTIME

INSTA-CHAMPIONSHIP!

• lakersforlife77

Take the purple and gold goggles off. Maybe we should trade andrew bynum for Greg Oden too XD .

• lakerfan81

If Gasol really pushes to be out then Kwame Bynum trade might work. A Bynum Conley duo might be good in a few years so that might get a trade done.

• Lakers305

@LD2K
didn’t KObe demanded a trade publically and on national radio???

• ryan

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak cringed at the question, one he had to expect to be asked even on a day when the organization was upbeat about having selected Georgia Tech guard Javaris Crittenton with the 19th pick in Thursday’s NBA draft.

But Lakers coach Phil Jackson didn’t back away from questions about disgruntled Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, saying he expects Bryant to be on the team when the Lakers head to Hawaii for training camp in October.

Jackson said he has frequently spoken to Bryant since his outburst.

“Kobe has got to respect what this team is trying and has to do and we’re trying to work our way through this,” Jackson said. “In my heart of hearts, I believe that when it comes time in Hawaii for this team to step on the floor, Kobe Bryant is going to be wearing a uniform.”

You obviously underestimate pau. I’ll take him over JO any day of the week, and now vlade is NOT GOING ANYWHERE thanks to his ridiculous contract. It would have to be a bynum or odom centered trade

the triangle needs someone thats a shooter. i think jordan is good enough for it but brevin isnt exactly great when it comes to that aspect of the game. good player though

• http://getgarnett.com John

kobe hasn’t even made a recent trade demand the media is bullshit and he is not going anywhere. he first said he wanted out on stephen a smiths show and then he blogged about “a new road ahead” on may 30 or so. but the next day he told dan patrick he talked to phil and he wants to be a laker.somehow the blog got reposted to mis june and the media took it as if he had just changed his mind again. and don’t mention the video, it doesn’t really matter wat a man says to his friends.

• GETsomeONE

I don’t care what they have to do. They have to fix this team. I can see that, and I live in freakin’ Tennessee. They need an inside presence. If they can get KG great, do it. If you can get JO, go get him, but giving up Odom and Bynum for someone that obviously pouts during games when they don’t use him as much as he would like is stupid. Plus he stays hurt all the time. I can’t even remember a season since Reggie retired that he played every game or even close. I’ve said all along that Pau would be a way better fit than JO, but not better than KG. They could possibly even land Pau without losing Bynum. We still have picks next year, a mid-level exception, and an expiring contract that we can trade. Get Pau Gasol. Resign Luke, and put Farmar at the point. And if we keep the mid-level exception we could possibly even get Grant Hill, who is far from done. Think about that.

Jordan Farmar
Kobe Bryant
Grant Hill
Lamar Odom
Pau Gasol

6th man: Luke Walton

Bench:
Rad-Man
Brian Cook or Luther Head if trade goes through
Ronny Turiaf

This would be a good enough team to come out on top of the west.

Who knows, maybe the Wolves even lose KG to free agency next year, or whoever they trade him to. And we stilll get him. Our team would be even sicker then. The possibilities are endless. But we have to play the cards right.

• KBisDarthVader

john i wish i could agree.

kobe wants out, otherwise he wouldn’t tolerate all the bs from bucher and his “camp”. the only way to change kobe’s stubborn, feeble little mind is to create a situation in LA (with the lakers) where he would have a better shot at winning a title here than with a team we could possibly trade him to. in order to do that, we need to keep odom (or get a player of comprable talent) AND get a top 5 interior presence. in order to do this, we need to trade bynum. i dont like the idea, i think ab will be great, but if we want to keep kobe past next season an/or have a shot at winning a title anytime soon, we need to package ab, little-hands mcgee(aka kwame brown), and whatever else it takes to give us a starting line up will at least 3 all-star caliber players.

• shins74

Common Jerry West, you have 2 more days as the GM of the Memphis, do us a favor and trade Gasol for a pack chewing gum and retire as a laker sounds good?

• yea yea

can i say we still dont have a solid veteran point gaurd come on guys we got killed on the point now who can we get

• KBisDarthVader

looking at the numbers, gasol and jo are pretty even. but if mchale is serious about not trading kg this summer, jo is the better trade. jo has said he will opt out no matter what, so if we bring him we have a chance to see how it works out this season, then kg will be a free agent when jo opts out and we can try to sign kg.

• daboss1848

gasol and jo numbers cannot be compared . . . JO plays in the leastern conference; Gasol plays in the stacked western conference.

• lakersforlife77
can i say we still dont have a solid veteran point gaurd come on guys we got killed on the point now who can we get
Yeah but our biggest weakness is our FRONTCOURT, we have to take care of that first, or else we’ll never be able to face teams with big men like duncan, pau would solve most of our frontcourt woes, then we just need a decent perimeter defender

• lakeforlife

• ryguy2303

lol. gasol is way under rated, if he didnt get injured last year he woulda been an all-star fa sho

• kgmvp

getgasol.com get him now offer bynum and fillers just don´t offer Lamar Odom

• Ricky

obviously garnett and o’neal are the first and second choices for the lakers respectively. however, i have always figured that pau gasol would be an excellent choice because he is good offensive player who can attack with both hands, he is an underrated defender, and he plays with a lot of passion as well. he is still young (26) than both garnett (31) and o’neal (28). i think the lakers should really look to package a deal for gasol because gasol has expressed his desire to be traded and he may want to team with his brother marc, so the lakers have an incentive in a sense to persuade gasol to come to los angeles.

a good trade for gasol would be to package a deal consisting of andrew bynum, kwame brown, radmanovic, and possibly a future draft pick. also, try and keep odom out of it cause teaming gasol with odom and bryant would be strong enough to get to the top of the western conference

here is a tentative roster if this trade goes through

C- p. gasol, mihm, m. gasol
F- odom, turiaf, cook
F- walton, evans
G- kobe, vujacic
G- farmar, crittenton, yue

use the MLE to sign a veteran pg (mo williams) of sf (gerald wallace, grant hill) or trade for some veteran players and this team will be set to battle in the west

• wes22

i would really love pau gasol to be in the lakers uniform than jo,even if we dont land kg this season..pau can take the open shots with ease and can do damage in the paint consistently..pau will attracts double team in the paint and can dish out to the open kobe in the three or can penetrate or can make a pass to the cutting lamar..i think kobe, pau and lamar would a lot of sense than kobe, lamar and jo..shift bynum, radman, sasha to memphis and the lakers will get pau gasol and jerry west..trade kwame, luke and filler for artest and bibby..lakers will become dynasty again

iite get Pau Gasol then trade the Gasol brothers for Garnett, should be a done deal.

• lakerfan81

The problem with getting gasol is two fold. One. He is not in a contract year so that makes his trade demands less pressing for the Grizzlies. Two. Jerry West is retiring on the 1st so they will have to hire a new GM so any trades that occur will take a while.

MAN UP AND ASK TO COME TO LA!

• punkjones

LF81 –
So maybe the answer to the question I posed on other thread is that we should try to do a deal with Jerry before he goes. This weekend? Probably won’t go down unfortunately. I don’t know why they weren’t even considering Gasol. I wonder what it would take to get him. He may not be in contract year but if he’s bitching, and we make an offer and he hears about it he may actually put his neck on the line unlike KG and say, “Trade me to LA!” Come on. Why aren’t the Lakers even putting in an effort to try?

KG is done. He’s going nowhere – that’s my gut instinct. Everything ESPN is saying has been wrong, why mess with their successful record here? Does anyone really believe that Minny HAS to really trade KG now? All they wanted was young talent and draft picks and the draft is over. No one except the Lakers is willing to pay that huge salary, plus the kicker, plus extend him for more huge money. And they won’t even sniff at our offer – it’s beneath them. F the Wolves and F KG for not putting his foot down when he had the chance. The offer was on the table and it was a good one. If he wanted to stand up for himself at that moment he could have demanded that Taylor trade him. But he didn’t. No I do not think he will be a Laker any time soon. Maybe next life.

• punkjones

PS – The name of this site should be officially changed to getgasol.com at this point.

Seriously now, if the past week hasn’t proved it to you then I don’t know what to say – KG will not be a Laker.
