JO was interviewed by a local Indy news station and he clarified his comments. Make sure to check out the entire article:

WTHR: First, it seemed as though Jermaine O’Neal wanted to be traded to the Lakers. The Pacers forward told Sports Illustrated that he doesn’t want to be part of the Pacers’ “youth movement.”

O’Neal said he wasn’t physically ready to “go through another five to six years with a lot of losses and lot of down time.”

The 28-year-old O’Neal spoke with Sports Illustrated while in Los Angeles for a charity basketball game. But back in Indianapolis Monday afternoon, he clarified his statements on the issue.

The big question: Did O’Neal tell Sports Illustrated that he wanted a trade from Indiana?

“No, I didn’t tell him I wanted a trade. The article didn’t say I wanted a trade. Obviously you go out west, there’s been a lot of talk about me going out west, especially in LA, you get a lot of questions about that. I still stand pretty firm on what I’ve been saying the entire summer. I’m a Pacer right now until the Pacers decide to trade me,” O’Neal said in an exclusive interview with Eyewitness Sports shortly after arriving back to Indianapolis from the west coast.

“Would I welcome a trade to LA? Yes, I would welcome a trade to LA for multiple reasons because one, I’m familiar with the area and two, I’m really familiar with Kobe Bryant. We’ve known each other since I was like thirteen, and three, they’re not a team that’s too far away.”

O’Neal says he loves Los Angeles and normally trains there in the summer. If he can’t play with Kobe Bryant, O’Neal says he’d like to play for New Jersey.

That statement right there is enough. It’s out and this done not jeopardize it. Of course he’s going to clarify it he’s trying to keep it OUT of the public. Don’t worry guys, JO will be a Laker eventually ;)

I always liked JO but now I like him even more. Unlike that sneaky KG, JO says what he wants and says it very clear and determined.
Of course, Larry Bird and his stupid agent (he should switch agents like Fisher did) are all over him about his trade demand and he had to “rephrase” his statement. But the 800 pounds gorilla is still in the room and JO wants to be a Laker.

Dr.Buss, Jimmy Buss, Kupchak, Larry Bird and Donie Walsh, they all are rotten, bloodsucking money-loving people. They are killing the true spirit of sports with greed and players and fans must suffer.

Kobe needs help, JO wants to help him and he eventually could, bring them together dammit

I like the clarification. “I didn’t say I wanted to be traded to the Lakers, I said I wouldn’t MIND if they traded me there….like right now…or soon…but yes LA.”

I like this guy. KG = waiting to see who gives em the most money and JO = wants to play with the best and help him get a championship.

  • gugy

    he wants LA.
Cupcake make it happen without giving up LO.
    That’s a good team
    Fisher
    JO
    Kobe
    Luke
    LO

Maybe we can get Artest and C webber. that would be nice. we’ll see Lakers FO is lame so I don’t want to be disappointed again.

They just signed Eddie Jones, are you sure they are also going after c. webb?

  • Michael_23

    Ed and everyone else,

Webber should go to LA or stay in Detroit. Mavs lost their chance at a title shot in 06 already. They got past the spurs because of an injured Duncan that year. And they were over confident in 07 and suffered an embarrassment to the Warriors.

C Webb is perfect for the triangle offense. The Mavs have too many centers and power forwards already. He wont start for the Mavs and just be benched. He’s just looking for a ring without playing too hard now. Just like Eddie Jones. Shame.

  • Justin M.

I was for JO instead of KG from the beginning and this article proves my point. KG didn’t even bother to mention Kobe or the Lakers until he was in Boston. JO is not staying quite about his situation and neither did Kobe. They will be very good teammates and if LO is by their side Kobe will get his first season MVP and all three will be holding the 07-08 Finals trophy and Kobe will have his first finals MVP trophy in the other hand. Do you guys like the look of that? I do.

  • keep24

If it were 2002 I’d really push for C Webb, but 2007-2008 – we need real help.

I’m not losong sleep over C. Webb in Dallas …

  • TheFaze

Let’s worry about getting JO before anyone else, lol…

  • D. Imhoff

It is looking as if we have to organize a three way trade. the point is that the Pacers want Odom and Bynum. So we hqve to pull off a three or four team trade where the Lakers give up Odom and Bynum and get in return O’neil and Artest. I don’t know who the other players would be but it might include Sasha, Vlad, Cook, Brown, Farmar from the Lakers with Granger to the Kings. Do what we have to do, but do some thing! Bucher on the BIG SHOW said Kobe s still firm on never playing again for the Lakers, but if the Laker FO makes moving unappealling by bringing in the right talent to win now, Kobe would likely stay. However, the Laker FO still is not moving on any trades.

Of all the people and players that came in and out of Lakers I miss “The Logo” the most. Those were the days. The good old days where you’d turn on the tube or the read the paper and hear that he pulled off a major deal.

The nice thing was that he did it under the radar and with class. Jerry Buss lost his passion (i.e getting rid of West)and then his mind ( getting nothing but garbage for Shaq) and now he’s about to lose his franchise (KOBE).

This is what happens when you spend your time chasing young skirt and playing poker with a bunch of degenerate gamblers every night of the week.
—-O’Neal backtracks on talk about trade to Lakers—-

    Updated: August 6, 2007, 8:31 PM ET

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers forward Jermaine O’Neal isn’t demanding a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, but he’s open to the idea.

While O’Neal has been the subject of trade talk since the Pacers missed the playoffs for the first time in 10 years, the new discussion was stirred up Monday when SI.com quoted O’Neal as saying he would “welcome a trade to the Lakers” and mentioned the New Jersey Nets as another possible destination.

O’Neal, a six-time All-Star, downplayed the trade talk in an interview with The Associated Press.

“I don’t think me saying I’d like to go with those teams is me saying I want to be traded,” he said.

O’Neal said he recognized that the Pacers are rebuilding with young players and he might not be part of future plans.

“If they want to move in a different direction, I wouldn’t be disgruntled about it,” he said. “If I am traded, it would be seven great years I had with this team. And if I’m going to be here, I’d welcome it with open arms.”

His agent, Arn Tellem, flatly denied the trade talk in an e-mail to the AP.

“He hasn’t requested a trade to the Lakers,” Tellem wrote. “Any reports to the contrary are inaccurate.”

Pacers president Larry Bird didn’t rule out a trade.

“In any discussions regarding him or any of our other players, the expectations for the franchise and our fans is to receive fair market value in return if a trade is to be considered,” Bird said in a statement Monday.

O’Neal averaged 19.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.6 blocks last season in one of the best performances of his 11-year career.
Hey in Monteith’s article up now, he states that he has heard that the Lakers are refusing to offer Bynum in the package for Jermaine and that has been the stalling point.

If that is true, then IMHO Kupchak and the lakers FO is out of their focking minds. Looking at the lakers roster, I am not quite sure what they could even be offering that is close to fair market for jermaine.

Pacer fans…don’t come down on Donnie and Larry hard on this stalled deal, as Jermaine seems to be doing, cause if Bynum is not in the package this is all on Kupchak’s reluctance to get real.
• Pedro La Pacas

    Get JO Mitch,
Spoil the Laker Fans before we lose faith in you. Our last option is JO and if you do not pull this trade off then this offseason will be a failure because the trade that you promised us will have slipped away and the Lakers we be mediocre again. So save your job and give the Laker Fans hope because we are the greatest organization to ever be in the NBA. We have the greatest core of fans in the NBA that dont want Bynum anymore because he is the next Kwame so do what your paid to do and get Jermaine O’neal. Put us back on top!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/darkice18 dark_ice18

Honestly guys, this feels like we are right where we have always been. The Pacers want LO and Bynum (in addition to Kwame’s expiring), and from the Lakers perspective we would have to be nuts to do that. The Lakers want a deal around either LO or Bynum, and the Pacers unrealistically think that JO is worth more than that.

Unless the Pacers get off the crack and realize that they aren’t getting LO and Bynum it’s not gonna happen. That’s probably what JO’s comments were all about. JO doesn’t see the point in going to LA if it’s just him and Kobe. So he made the comments about Larry trying to make unfair trades and trying to gut teams.

The Pacers are stuck. If the deal is for Bynum and LO, then I don’t think JO wants to come to LA and the deal is dead. If they take a deal around Bynum OR Odom, then they are giving in and taking back (in their delusional opinion) “less than fair market value.”

I think this is all going to come down to whether or not Larry gets realistic. If he doesn’t and continues to want everything under the sun for JO then it will be a real tragedy that can be blamed solely on the Pacer organization.

  • fatty

    Cyrus

Sorry, I’ve been posting Trade-O-Meter all day on Shout Box.

It started with 75% and has been rising all day.

It even saw through JO’s agent and caught him stretching the truth.

At 89% he started to sing “I love LA”. He peaked at 92.9% and dropped back down to 89% with JO’s supposed denial. Meter dude saw right through JO and noted his agent made him say that.

After listening to the interview from JO in LA, he raised it to 90%.

New and improved Meter Dude I feel is way better than that old womanizing drunk of a computer I used before. He really is on the ball and easily sees through media hype.

Current reading is [90%] Weather is cool and cloudy with a 30% chance of rain. Stock market will be up tomorrow. Bonds used steroids. I told you, this guy is good. In fact, I think the FBI wants to borrow him for a couple of cases.

  • cyrus

    Fatty,

are you in shout box right now?

  • fatty

I ve been back and forth all day. Right now, not much happening in the box. Its late in Indy. I don’t think any more news is happening this evening. But wait till tomorrow. Give people some time to pick up more goodies.

I don’t share dark ice optimism. lol I feel a trade is going down. Bird will give in because of JO’s strong feeling and his threat to opt.

Who goes? We keep odom. Bird wants to rebuild. Even JO said that. So Odom makes no sense. Who else? Bynum, Kwame, Sasha, Cookie, and (FArmar?)

  • cyrus

Bynum and Critt should stay together either way. They are the perfect combo for a team in rebuilding mode. Larry Bird is just being a **** not giving us a deal. People Like Bird, McHell and Ainge are caught in the 80′s and have a hard time to adjust.

  • fatty

What I like about JO is he wants to be a Laker real bad, said he dreams of playing with the best ball player in the world, he loves LA, his family wants to live in LA, says the Lakers are real close to contending, says he can help them get there, says he and Kobe have been talking all summer on what they can do to make Lakers contenders. Not like that guy, I forget his name that went to Boston.

That’s why he will make it here. His desire to be a Laker will not be denied.

  • Faith

Actually imo Farmar and Bynum fit more together than Crit and Bynum. Because Farmar is more of a traditional guard, while Crit is really more of a defensive-style penetrating to score kind of guard (untraditional lol).

But if it comes to either for the JO deal…I think they’ll take Crit, cause he’s perceived to be a player with a greater upside.

  • fb

    Cyrus is the man!

  • cyrus

“That’s why he will make it here. His desire to be a Laker will not be denied.” Well said Fatty. And what I also like about his interview, he said he would prove all the “naysayers” wrong. I think he will do really well in LA.

I believe that Kobe was not that hot on that”Green Frog” who jumped to Boston (what was his name???) and that’s why Kobe didn’t make any extra effort to help FO to get the Green Frog. Kobe could have very easily picked up the phone and tell the Green Frog that he would stay if the Frog would jump to LA. Kobe didn’t do that, why he wasn’t hot on the Green Frog, I don’t know.

I also remember, somebody asked Kobe about JO to LA, not too long ago, I believe it was right after his exit interview, and he said: “it would be crazy to get JO” Kobe, for some reason, prefers playing with JO than with that stupid Green Frog. Just my Impression.

Add 1 or 2 first rounders to that.

    Farmar interchangeable with Critt

    Sasha interchangeable with Evans

  • cyrus

You’re right Faith; they would go for Critt rather than Farmar for the reasons you mentioned.

“defensive-style penetrating to score kind of guard” do you mean getting closer to the hoop to score rather than outside shots?

  • fatty

Regarding why Kobe likes JO more:

They have always had a repore. Like JO said since they was 13 years old. They respect each other, like each other, and there game will mesh together better because of it.

There might be some truth to the point that Kobe has to be the top dog and whatzhisface could usurp Kobe’s authority(just a thought, dont take me too seriously on that one) Kobe is the alpha male (stallion) and so is the frog guy. Maybe he just didn’t have good vibes.

I just figured out Faith’s noob comment. Gee I’m so smart.

  • Faith

Not necessarily Cyrus. I mean more in the sense that if Jordan goes to the hoop…he has a tendency to pass first, second and mostly last…but Java is more aggressive, when he goes to the hole…he would take the open shot, or sometimes not so open shot lol.

Not saying one is better than the other lol…just stating fact/opinions lol.

In essense if I’m Indiana, and I’m looking to groom Bynum into the next “great” center, Farmar would be a better fit because he can give Bynum a Magic-lite to his Kareem-lite-lite lol. But like I said, chances are Java is the one they want simply because he’s perceived better now.

I forgot…but was it JO’s kid that was telling her friends that they’re moving to LA? Or was it the green dude who only wants the green? haha, jk.

  • fatty

    Faith

It was JO’s kid and yes they moved here already. JO has a new Laker locker, and Kobe is not getting a divorce after all.

By the way, the Indy blogs are all for the trade to LA. They want JO out, NOW and cant wait to start the new Pacers.

and by the way, What is a Pacer?

  • cyrus

    Faith,
I think O’Neal has a 5-6 years old daughter and her name is Asjia (I hope I am spelling that correctly) and Asjia told classmates (kindergarten mates) that daddy has told her they are moving to California. That was about 2 month ago.

Regarding Critt or Farmar style of play, I think we shall wait to watch about 20 or more games in “real life” NBA season to have a better opinion. Also, you’re probably a better judge when it comes to detailed technicalities. LOL

  • Faith

    LOL Fatty.

I think Kobe may have lost respect for KG with the way he handled things…I mean ahem cowardice lol, JK!!! But keep in mind that Kobe did say that would stay for KG or something like it…he has basically said that JO will not change his mind (by most accounts aka Rick Puke-er).

  • cyrus

Fatty, I think you have the right idea. Kobe is the “Alpha” and the Frog is sort of wanna-be “Alpha”. Did you see at his interview how buffed the frog was between the other 2 doodoo heads. I always thought that there could be some kind of “Shaq-Kobe” tension if the frog would Join Kobe.

Prove to us you’re not a noob Laker Front Office…sir.

Ok Cyrus, it took me an hour to figure out what a noob is? You are on the clock. tic…tic…tic…

  • cyrus

There are many people we don’t know in person but we see their behavior in their professional life. On one end is Ric Bucher and on the other end is Charley Rosen who I respect as a true journalist.

  • cyrus

    noob?

    ahhh..newcomers???, new…ahhh..newbie???

  • cyrus

But if it refers to “newbie” or “newcomer” than I don’t understand. Cupcake was groomed by the best in business, Jerry West, for years. And Dr. Buss has been doing it for a long time, “newbie” or “newcomer” could refer only to Jimmy?!?! Rookie Owner?!?!

If you can’t figure it out in less than an hour, you are one.

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Then you can be on America’s most popular game show.

  • fatty

Ask your wife, she will know for sure. haha

  • fatty

If I’m wrong then I will try out for “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?”

OK Cyrus, I’m going to bed. Ten is the end of the trail for me, seeing as I get up at 5-5:30.

    Talk to you noobs later.

    Sweet Laker dreams.

    My wife is sleeping.lol

Prove to us you’re not a M***F***incompetent Laker Front Office…sir
Prove to us you’re not a @#$%*&^% Laker Front Office…sir

I give up. Tell me Fatty.

  • fatty

ok cyrus, “just remember, who loves ya baby”

I think Faith meant to say Boob for noob. she will email me if I’m wrong, I’m sure.

JO will save the Lakers from losing Kobe.
Yes Kobe will not be that happy at first, but as the season goes on he will change his mind as the team start winning major games. I would bring JO ASAP and if we are lucky maybe Artest or C Webb too.
But just JO at this point is mandatory.

Cupcake makes this happen, if not you can count you will be fired alongside Jim Buss, because if we lose Kobe the franchise will crumble for many years to come.
    Are you listening Jerry Buss?
