It wasn’t exactly something that was covered as much as it should have been; especially here. But while Lakers fans, and the entire NBA Nation were resting in preparation for what has the potential to be the best season in recent memory; there was a Basketball World Championship being played in the other side of the globe in Turkey.
The games themselves were missed by many — some blame scheduling based on times zones, some had no interest in watching what they called “B-Team.” With all that said, the United States stomped their way to a World Championship; their first since 1994, a 16 year drought. In the middle of the United States road to supremacy was one of our own, Lamar Odom. Arguably one of the most frustrating Lakers to watch since the dawning of the Kobe-era in L.A. (strictly based off of our expectations mixed with his potential), Lamar set himself apart as one of the most prominate figues in the World Championship.
We all know the Lamar Odom story. His road hasn’t been the easiest, but his selflessness has been well documented. On behalf of Lakers fans everywhere, we want to congratulate and thank Lamar Odom for his recent string of success and restoring pride in both the Los Angeles Lakers organization and the Team USA Basketball program.
A recent article by SI‘s Jack McCallum sums up much of our feelings; take a read.
When last some of you saw Lamar Odom, he might’ve been passing through your consciousness, or semi-consciousness, on a clip from the reality-TV roll. Maybe he was looking perplexed as he learns that his then-fiancée has misplaced the $850,000 engagement ring he had bought for her. Or sheepish as he fails to pick up his now-wife’s swimming tips. Or surprised when his spouse lays a $400,000 Rolls Royce on him, a bauble presented in recognition of the NBA title he won with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Such is the course of your 24/7 public life when you become a citizen of Kardashian World, as Odom has done with his marriage to Khloe, who is one of the Kardashians, though I know not which.
It all gives rise to the supposition that the man is a little, well, loopy.
Actually, he is.
