Finally, this is getting somewhere…

CBS2: I have learned that Lamar Odom had a phone conversation with Lakers owner Jerry Buss on Thursday. I am told the purpose of the call was to rebuild any bridges that Odom’s agent, Jeff Schwartz may have burned by not responding to the Lakers offer of 3-years $30 million, and 4-years for $36 million.

According to reports today, Miami is offering Odom a 5-year package.

I dunno what the Lakers are thinking. Odom is worth the cash… you spend money on Walton, Vujachic and Bynum and don’t spend it on the players that contribute? Where’s Shannon Brown’s money? Where did Ariza go? Lakers you are whack. Broke up the best team we had in years.

I will say this, LA is his best bet, in Miami he will be so tired from the practices he won’t have anything left. The Eastern division tough.

Sign the deal Lamar, getting ready for the repeat.

    Candyman time.

  • ricky

Finally Lamar has taken matters into his own hands and is trying to renegotiate a contract from the Lakers. He knew that if he didn’t do anything soon, he would end up just like Trevor, getting paid the same money, but getting his butt stuck on a bad team. Lamar knows where the tings are at, where titles are won and that’s only in L.A. baby! Dr. Buss please forgive, not Lamar’s fault but that of his agent’s. Now that Lamar has no where else to turn to, Dr. Buss did the right thing in calling Lamar’s bluff. Now he hold all the chips and can give Lamar whatever contract he feels like since Odom has pretty much no shot at anything else with other teams. However, I think Buss is a generous guy who may say he wants to save money, but he is such a competitive owner and consistent winner that I’m sure he’ll be willing to give Lamar a decent offer to return.

Smart move Lamar to call back. The Doctor (Dr. Buss) knows what’s best! Lakeshow all the way!

  • 242LakerFan

Who are these morons who keep throwing Odom under the bus and bringing up Boozer? Really? Boozer? How many games has he played in the last few years?
Dude is an injury walking around looking for a convenient place to happen!
How many seasons do you have to go back to compile enough actual games played to equal what LO played this past season alone? Plus, when was the last time Boozer had an assist, for goodness sakes?
Believe me, with a recession, or Obsession, or whatever, going on and the salary cap shrinking, Odom has been offered what the team can afford to give him. No one’s gonna give him more, at least no one with a remote chance of winning a O’Brien trophy.
His only move is to drag his dumb-ass agent out to the curb and call Jerry Buss and say, “Hey, boss, I’m ready to do some real talking, man to man. Whadayasay?”

  • sixers#1

yeah lamar is signing with the lakers.no matter what the rumors are.
boozer for lamar would work but. itll fk up the chemistry
they already have ron artest coming in to teach him the triangle.
then boozer another guy to teach.
the chamistry wont be the same
    lamar is staying….hes said before
“i want to retire a laker” and its going to happen.
idk why its taking long but the deal is happening.
hes not going to miami for sure. that team is garbage.
and wont make any noice in the playoffs

[Comment ID #80079 Will Be Quoted Here]

We don’t have the money to give to Odom that his agent was trying to get him. If we did we would have signed him already and there would be no issue. I do agree about spending too much to keep Walton and Sasha, but Bynum is one of the best young big men in the NBA, as long as he is healthy of course, so his money was worth it. Shannon Brown is still a Laker, so I’m not sure where you were going with that. Ariza went to the Rockets (Where have you been?) because his agent tried to play hardball and screwed him, but we got Artest out of it who is a much better player then Ariza and actually improved our team. So, in conclusion, Please know what you are talking about before you say something and I don’t like front runner fans, so if you could please get off our bandwagon it would be much appreciated.

  • Geloman

I think Kobe should pay Odom the extra year he wants out of his own huge pocket, what with all the endorsements he’s getting in addition to his fat paycheck. C’mon Kobster, bring Odom back.

  • ricky

I’m tired of fans wanting to trade players on our team just because they don’t like them, the player(s) is unproductive or for salary reasons. I know some of our players are overpaid and unproductive but they are still part of our team and it’s irritating to see so called fans bash them in their comments asking them to be traded. Such popular targets include Sasha, Luke and Adam. Yes they are all overpaid and underachieving most of the times, but the last I checked, they are still part of the team and I will support them no matter what. It’s hard to see Lakers fans bash on the very players of their team, it’s so hypocritical coming from a fan. If you like the team you should respect the players and show support, it’s a team game and they are part of it all. If you’re gonna bash on players, do so from other teams!

Thank you someone who has some common sense LO was not “the reason” the lakers won, like man its kinda of annoying how everyone is on his nuts like this, we really don’t need him like a necessity. He is not even consistent, you only get about half the season out of him, then we are gonna be like man why did we give him all this money like sasha, then everybody is gonna be Odumb when he misses easy layups like luke, and we all get nervous when he shoots. And if he is so vital and completes the lakers then they shoulda won last year, but he played like a little girl. I loovvvvvvvve the lakers I nut every time they win but come on lay off his nuts

  • LakerLove

Ricky is right! I definately feel you on that one. If L.A. fans don’t support the whole team then who will? As fans we are supposed to show support all the time not only when things are good, a fan that doesn’t is not a fan at all. Any dumbass can support something in its high moment but it takes a real fan to remain steadfast through the entire journey.

You’re the one that doesn’t know. By asking, “Where’s Shannon Brown’s money? Where did Ariza go?” he was meaning to say where is the money that Shannon deserves and why they let Trevor go. It’s so obvious that the guy was meaning to say this and you don’t even get it. You’re the one that doesn’t know. Gosh, you don’t have to insult his intelligence just because you don’t get what he’s sayin’.

  • Pistol Pete

Great news on phone call and so want to believe the veracity. Maybe LO can set precedent and players can finally understand that these scum agents usually will furtivly sneak in their own agendas, like making crazy commissions at expense of players best interest. Heard anectotal evidence of this too often.

Props to the Dr. he sure knows when to hold and when to fold. Lamar history is right here for the taking. Don’t be dense.

  • LaKeRs101

I been saying this and saying it again Odom is a good palyer, but his not need to win. I don’t know why people go around saying we need him to win again. Any of these players can help us win:

    David Lee
    Travis Outlaw

  • bballfan123

Look man…its simple. If it ain’t broke…don’t try fixing it. Whether odom is needed to help win a championship or not, the fact is that we won with him, so if we can sign him, we should.

[Comment ID #80099 Will Be Quoted Here]

You obviously know close to nothing about basketball. Just having a 6″10 Lamar being able to play point guard, both forwards, and center iff necessary is HUGE. Especially from the bench. When he is on the floor the match up problems that he causes other teams is a big reason why we can do the things we do. He pulls extra defenders off of Pau and Andrew on offense and he is a very underrated rebounder. His size/ quickness/ ball handling is key beacuse litterally if anyone of the starting five gets in foul trouble/ injured he can step right in and we dont lose much production. He is truly the most versatile 6th man in the league. If he leaves I doubt that Luke could fill his numbers. That being said, he still needs to keep his agent in hi place and I am very happy that he stepped up and called Dr. Buss.

  • Odom the worst player

[Comment ID #80089 Will Be Quoted Here]

Dude you are stupid. Kobe is worth every cent he gets paid. Odom has only had a few games where he’s been dominate. No way should Kobe give him his salary. The Lakers has made Odom a fair offer.

  • alex

what is wrong with agents these days? winning one championship cant inflate your status as a player. theyre taking all the wrong tactics towards dealing with general managers. anyways, this is good to hear. just lock up odom already. give him a 10 year deal if we have to.

  • JROME

    “BIG STEP IN ODOM’s PART!!!!”

    I love it! It’s Hollywood!

    BREAK UP TO MAKE UP’s!lol

but anyways pertaining to odom’s position i feel for him sometimes we as players don’t have any call in business when it come’s to paper work and getting things done its all done by the agents but its either a “yes” or “no” on the players behalf. So for him to call Buss means a lot!

Odom ain’t going anywhere and fans that ain’t fans that are not die hard loyal laker fan’s GET THE “F” out OF HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MT

Lamar, if you really want to mend bridges with Dr. Buss, fire your agent!

  • http://hiphophoop.blogpsot.com mlkg721

first off I want to say that I am glad odom made that call. Secondly, we do NEED him back.

He may not be the key to our championship run, but he sure makes it a lot easier. With out him we drop to third best team in the league in my opinion under spurs and Boston. We would have no bench support. Odom is one of tose rare players who is a starter who sacraficed to play a 6th man role. When bynum went down with injuries, who was there to right the ship? People need to recognize the little things this guy does to support our team, especially defensive things that dont show up on the stat sheet. With Odom gone our bench would be terrible.

And Lastly, no we dont have to support every player on our team just because they are lakers. I like Luke even though I feel he is overpaid, but at lease he comes in and does something good for the few miutes he plays. And he actually had a pretty productive playoffs and used his minutes wisely. But Sasha is a bum! He was a bum when he was making his shots, and he’s even more of a bum when he misses. We lose to Boston because our lack of toughness, yet somehow we decide to get rid of Ronny Turiaf)our toughes big at the time) and residn Sasha? That was a horrible decision. I live in oakland now, and Warriors fans now see why I liked Turiaf so much.

    Ok, I think I’ve said my piece….lol

  • showtime2k9

Ditto. I wish we would’ve kept Ronny instead of Isha Vujatits. Powell is okay, but Phil had more confidence in Ronny than I think he has in Josh.

  • Asiant Zero

I miss Ronny. He had the most heart on the team, considering he had heart surgery.

  • hertzchell

first of all lamar said he is willing to take less money 8 to 9 million is fair for the way he play and his not even in the first five second recession man just like manny

  • Portman

[Comment ID #80101 Will Be Quoted Here]

exactly man, you’re a real fan if you like luke walton. i do. and yes, lamar is not a necessity, but he is integral. if we lose him, who’s left on the bench? i love every guy on our team, but artest alone can’t do what both trevor and lamar does. face it everyone, lamar is no allstar, he’s inconsistent, but he delivers and he’s all we got.

  • Lakerfan

Ok all you people saying we dont need LO need to look around our bench. Who do we have on there that can come in and produce other then Odom ? DJ Benga Or Josh Powell? David Lee ? Travis Outlaw ? are you kidding me? and by the way LO didnt play soft last year Gasol did.
I love Gasol but he wasnt ready fisically or mentally last year and he prooved this year that hes not soft and has a heart of a champion as did everyone else on this team. Also we didnt have Bynum last year and Trevor was injured have you all forgotten that. Ya LO will disapeer at times but hes always there when we need him. F— Carlos Boozer if you like him go root for the Jazz or some other crappy team his going to endup with. Im sick of haters on this site. We have a Great Team just be happy about it. Sucks about Trevor man i really like him his gonna be a great player hope we get him back. Welcome Ron-Ron

  • thefishthatsavedla

Lamar is legit! He is a huge piece of the puzzle; sign him NOW!

  • touching myself

WTF? People, people, those of you who are dumpin on LO, do you guys even know what he’s been doing for the team? Yes, he has been inconsistent, but when he’s been on, he’s the most versatile player in the league! The relief he’s provided when Bynum got into foul trouble, the heat he brought with the 3 straight 3’s from the corner in the Finals in game 5, the double digit rebounding games, the timely blocks, the trouble he gives to opposing 3s and 4s on the offensive end, and the trouble he gives to all opposing players on the defensive side because of his length and his speed! LO is definitely needed!

Having said all that, I do think that LO is integral to the Lakers dominance, but I still think that they can win without him. But why make your jobs harder than you need to? I’m a firm believer in making things as easy as possible! So, let’s get LO signed! The fact that LO called Buss himself is a great sign! I believe that all this chatter would be for nothing because he’ll be a Laker by next week!

  • LA

Oh man…Trying to get through some of your comments is a tough task. I feel we should have some mods on here. If fans from other teams were to read some of the comments you guys leave we’d be the laughing stock of the league. PLEASE, for all our sakes, SPELL CHECK after you post. The same guys that are calling LO dumb are the guys that can’t spell and have been on the bandwagon for the last few months, I have a request – JUMP OFF NOW!! We don’t like you, we don’t want you and we certainly don’t need you!!!

LO – the true Lakers fans love you. You have proven your worth and are an integral part of our team. Thanks for stepping up and calling Dr Buss. We hope things work out for the best.

Sasha – you were incredible during our Finals run and practically CARRIED our team on several occasions. We hope you find your stroke again because when you are on, you are extremely dangerous.

Luke – next to Kobe and Gasol you understand the triangle better than anyone else on the team. When you come off the bench I actually feel comfortable knowing the offense often runs through you. Continue working on your shot and thanks for everything.

  • metalbass

lamar, sign and stop this stupid show. they offered two good deals. on the other hand i think that the lakers are in a bad position ’cause they made an absurdly high contract to bynum last year…
but in the end what the fuck changes making 8 or 9 or 10 million a year when you can win again? do you prefere to play in a loser team? come on…. i’ll never understand…

  • Tony

OK, we need to re-sign Odom, even if we have to overpay a bit, and I’ll tell you why. Kobe turns 31 in August, and Pau just turned 29 (and Lamar turns 30 in November). Players generally start to fade as they leave their early-30’s, so I feel strongly that we have about a 3 or 4-year window to win championships (at which point we will have to try to re-tool for the next run). So if that’s the case, who cares if you overpay for Lamar a little bit, and who cares if it’s a bad contract 3 or 4 years from now?

The objective is to give yourself the best possible chance at winning every year for the next few years, and re-signing Odom gives you the best chance to do that. I’m not concerned if Odom’s contract is a bad one in 4 years, because we probably won’t be as good at that point. And if we are, then guess what–WHO CARES IF YOU MAY HAVE A BAD CONTRACT IF YOU ARE WINNING TITLES!!?? I’m fine with that problem. It’s just like right now: would you rather be the Lakers, the NBA champion with a bad contract like Sasha’s, or Portland, under the salary cap with a good team but not a truly elite team? The answer is obvious.

So let’s say we give Odom that fourth year and it’s a 4 year/36 million deal (or even 4/40). And you know Kobe will sign an extension and the same for Pau. This basically means that we will have Kobe, Pau, Artest, Odom, and Bynum all locked up for the next 4 years. That’s an incredible core, and we can just fill in the pieces around that. And we will be able to use the mid-level each year to add decent talent.

So come on, Lamar, let’s get this done. As a previous guy said in the comments, true Laker fans love and appreciate you greatly and we desperately want to see you back. Not just because you are so key to our team, but because you’re a genuinely great guy that people want to root for. True Laker fans know what you’ve been through in your personal life and we want you to be around to win multiple titles, not just one. You can win 3 or 4 rings with the Lakers and cement your legacy as being a key reason that the greatest franchise in the history of the sport was able to overtake the Celtics for the most championships ever.

  • http://Firefox Fdog

Maybe Lamar isn’t as dumb as we all thought? Good move LO! Dr. Buss usually doesn’t change his mind when he pulls a deal off the table, but a personal phone call goes a long way. Memo to LO: The Lakers with you and Artest cannot be stopped – you will get another ring, play in the second largest market in the country, and make the same amount of money or more compared to Miami’s offer. Quit F’n around and show the LA fans that you’re down with the purple and gold mudda fukka!

  • Paul Kruger

    LakerFans,

Lamar Odom will return to the fold. He is a Laker at his core,
and one of the kets that brought the championship back home.
I think a four year contract @ $38,000,000 will get the job
done. This would be a fair contract for both Lamar and the Laker
    Organization.
We’re still in a difficult economy, and Odom and his agent have
to be sensitive to that fact as well. Sign and let’s celebrate.

A true Laker fan, I watch every game.

    All the best,

    Krug

  • http://hiphophoop.blogpsot.com mlkg721

Well I have Odom’s back for sure, he does too much for our team. We cannot afford to lose him. I’m at the point where i only dislike one laker and that is Sasha, I have never liked him, and to whoever said he carried us some games, enlighten me to when that ever happened. He has not other skill besides shooting, so when his shot is off he is useless. He makes very dumb decisions on the floor. Hopefully shannon brown takes his spot int he rotation and sasha plays well enough to be traded

Your an Idiot! Sasha plays pesky defense as well as sharp shooting (when he’s on). I will laugh my ass off when most of you are hanging off his nuts next year. I bet he will find his stroke and all these band wagon Celtic like fans will love him again. Sasha pisses people off when he is defending and takes players out of the game mentally. I have to agree with the fellow who mentioned spell check in an earlier post. Some Laker fans embarrass the true purple and gold bleeding fans. Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://thelakernation.com Scott

John Black, Kurt Rambis, Jim Cleamons and Odon’s agent, were just spotted leaving the El Segundo training facility–together.

  • Robert

Basically, the ball is in Buss’ court now. I don’t believe that LO would call Buss to tell him goodbye; if he wanted to go to Miami, he would have by now, and if he decided to, it is much worse to call the former owner than to just stay quiet and slip on to Miami. Calling to say goodbye isn’t preventing ‘burning bridges'; so, the only purpose for calling was to re-start the re-signing process. What else could it be?

Therefore, if Buss doesn’t want LO to re-sign, he would tell LO to get lost and it’s all over with. I don’t think he’ll do that. He wants a Championship, and LO would guarantee more than one.

Also, what was not mentioned was that the Lakers have LO’s Larry Bird rights (see http://www.hoopshype.com ), and so Miami can in no way match the Lakers’ offer. So, if LO goes to Miami, it’s not about the money, and it’s essentially LO flipping off Buss and the Lakers.

LO doesn’t speak too much in the media, so his calling Buss is a big move on his part. It is a step ‘toward’ the Lakers. I hope they seal the deal this weekend.

  • PTG23

ALL YALL OUT THERE COMPLAINING ABOUT ODOM NOT MAKING A DECISION QUICK NEED TO FALL BACK. YALL DONT EVEN REALIZE THAT IT AINT ODOM, IT’S HIS DAMN A$$ AGENT BS’N WITH THE LAKERS ABOUT THIS CONTRACT. HE’S THE ONE THAT IS SUPOSED TO BE CONTACTING THE LAKERS ABOUT THE CONTRACT OFFER LAID OUT ON THE TABLE. IF ODOM HAS TO CALL JERRY BUSS TO “rebuild any bridges that Odom’s agent, Jeff Schwartz may have burned by not responding to the Lakers offer”, THATS A CLEAR INDICATION ODOM’S AGENT AINT DOING HIS JOB. HE KNOWS ODOM WANTS TO RETURN TO THE LAKERS BUT SOMEHOW IN HIS LITTLE PEANUT SIZE BRAIN IN HIS HEAD THINKS MORE MONEY IS GONNA COME ELSE WHERE. NEWS FLASH, THE TEAMS THAT COULD POSSIBLY AFFORD ODOM HAVEN’T OFFERED HIM A CONTRACT. ODOM NEEDS TO DUMP THIS DUDE AND FIND A NEW AGENT SO HE CAN GO AHEAD AND SIGN THIS 4 YEAR $36 MIL CONTRACT. HE’S NOT GONNA GET THAT MONEY ANY WHERE ELSE AND STILL HAVE A CHANCE A TITLE.

  • lucid

I think that chances are good that Odom remains a Laker next season. The only sticking point will be if Jerry Buss is true to his word and opens up talks again with a smaller contract offer. Also, if Andrew is healthy many of us will remember why we were so excited about this kid before injuries. Lets hope all goes well and the Lakers narrow the margin of championships with the hated Celtics down to just one after this season.

Sasha is weak, he is not a smart player. If he sets the record for most 3 pointers made next year I still wouldn’t like him. It was a poor decision to hold on to him as a player over Turiaf. We had more of a need for Ronny than Sasha. Yes, tha’s over and done with and we have to live with him, but that doesn’t mean I have to like him because he’s on the Lakers. I do appreciate that he plays hard, but he is a very ineffective. I don’t like one dimensional players at all. People who draw comparisons to Paxon and Kerr don’t know their history. They were still effective players if they were not on.(they were rarely off their game.)

So to “Lakers2000″ and “Thisisthelakeshow”, post your differences of opinion instead of resorting to childish name calling, I’m upset that I was angry enough even be baited in your B.S. I would love to hear all the reasons why you feel the need to defend Sasha, beside the fact that he’s a Laker.

Lakers are not signing Amare. That would only work with a sign and trade. Not going to happen. Calm down LN, everything will work out. we don’t need a trade. We have everything we need. everything will work out. We have a great team, stop asking for trades. Just enjoy what we have. Alot of us are acting like spoiled brats. Just enjoy what we have. It’s great!!!

I think I’m tired enough of all this drama that just about anything else that happens besides LO re-signing would be exciting.

If LO doesn’t come back, then be sure that Kup/Buss (= Kupbus, or Kuppus) will come up with a crafty solution within the next year, possibly by the Feb. trade deadline next year. Isn’t that exciting? We would get to see what could be done to possibly improve the team in another dimension, right?

(yeah, I do want LO to come back, but more than that, I’m looking forward to things finishing up soon —- PLEASE).

ODOM AINT GOTTA ASK HIS AGENT TO DO SHIT. MY POINT IS, IF ODOM HAS TO GET ON THE DAMN PHONE WITH JERRY BUSS TO DISCUSS THE CONTRACT BECAUSE HIS AGENT FAILED TO CALL, THAT’S A PRETTY BIG HINT THAT HIS AGENT AINT DOIN’ HIS JOB, PERIOD. ODOM SHOULDN’T HAVE TO CALL TO FIX HIS AGENT’S FUCK UPS. IF ODOM’S AGENT HAD OF CALLED BACK LIKE HE SHOULD OF, WE WOULDN’T EVEN BE DISCUSSIN’ THIS RIGHT NOW. ODOM’S AGENT IS THE REASON THE LAKERS PULLED BACK ON THEIR CONTRACT OFFER. ALL THIS IS GOIN ON OVER A PHONE THAT SHOULD OF BEEN MADE. JAMIE FOXX BLAMED IT ON A-A-A-A-A-ALCOHOL, BLAME IT ON ODOM’S A-A-A-A-A-AGENT.
