Odom for AK47?

Take this with a grain of salt but anything is possible, right? Would the Jazz even consider trading with us now? Sound-off in the comments and tell us what you think.

CBS Sportsline: Most interesting among the rumors heard Wednesday while chasing down the Kidd particulars was the one that involves the Lakers perhaps having one more move up their sleeve. It seems that despite his steady play, L.A. might have a desire for a more conventional small forward, dangling Lamar Odom in the process.

Although Odom is having a terrific impact playing alongside Gasol, a source told CBSSports.com that another move could be in the works. Completely throwing it out there, but it would be interesting if the Jazz would set aside the stigma of dealing with a conference rival if it meant trading Andrei Kirilenko and saving on paying a couple of extra years of his large salary.

We don’t need AK47. I rather keep Odom.

  • jay

yea lamar is gonna step up now. TRiple-Double. AK47 is more a shooter, he goes through bad slumps. eventhogh odom has his negatives, he still stays consistent. BUT with Gasol lamar is gonna step up. making the game easir for him. we need to get rid of LUKE WALTON thats what we need to do. bring in another piece like ariza, who wants to win not only for a contract. With gasol, odom, kobe, farmar we have enough passers on the team. maybe we can package mimh, luke and some others for a player. O yea TAHNKS D. GEORGE 4 THAT TRADE CLAUSE. HAHHAHAHAA

  • sepehr

This trade would not make sense in my opinion.
    1. Kirilenko makes almost the same amount as Odom but his contract last 2 years longer and an additional $34M in those 2 extra years. Kirilenko would not be worth that much to the lakers, since he will be a third or fourth option and would play as a role player behind Kobe,Pau, Bynum.

2.The lakers have also realized that Odom plays great in the lakers with the addition of Gasol. He no longer has to guard the Big PF in the west and can stick to rebounding and creating matchup problems with his size at the SF position, thus creating open shots for the lakers.

3.Odom is vital to this team at the moment since we already have 3 players (Kobe,Pau,Bynum) who demand shots and need to get points. Odom on the other hand is passive and is more comfortable distributing the ball. He is also one of the only people on this team who is a great passer, fisher is not your typical PG and Kobe is a better scorer than passer.

  • Jason

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LAMAR STAYS IN LA

  • http://ld2k.com LD2k

It would be a gamble. Odom knows the system and can develop chemistry with everyone (excluding being a second option with Kobe). Odom is too damn valubale to trade for even… yes… AK47 imo.

This group and core has chemistry. We are fine as is.

  • xxv112002

Why would the Lakers trade Lamar for Kirlenko? Lamar’s a good fit here in Los Angeles. He’s starting to come on his own. While Kirlenko, a whiner. Whining about not getting touches, whining about the salary etc. Bad fit to an already gelling team.

  • LakersOnFire

right now, lamar is a good complement to our line up. i guess he really can’t handle the pressure of being second option like gasol can but does well playing off other people and facilitating. i don’t see any need to mess up the chemistry. plus i can’t see lamar in utah, i would feel bad for him. his versatility will pay off with all our other weapons.

  • Arvincible

I dont think george’s move was a good idea, he should have moved because kidd would have destroyed the mavs’s offense, kidd is transition and mavs are slow-paced and half-court strategic. Kidd’s sunken shot percentage and turnovers will tear the team apart(which last time i checked was what we want to happen!)

AND LO has become very comfortable with The Spanish Fly and The Black Mamba settin the tone. Keep him!!

  • GotGasol.com

Stupid move, will not happen! at least should not!

  • AndrewT

This is a bad trade for LA. Sometimes we’re frustrated with him because he doesn’t always score, but with Kobe, Bynum, and Gasol in the lineup I don’t think that’s going to be a problem anymore.

Lamar’s versatility in setting up the outlet pass for the fast break, rebounding (he’s our second best rebounder) and ability to take advantage of mismatches for easy points is useful. He’s going to be overpaid as a 4th option, but I don’t think Lamar or the Lakers would mind signing up to a 4 or 5 year deal at 8 to 9 million per year if this core does well this post season.

I just wish he’d stop taking so many quick, long 3s and cut around to the rim more. His defense would also be better if he’d get rid of the tendency to rotate off of shooter to help out.

  • AnthonY MusiQ

Keep LO… We will win Championships with him… well, ofcourse.. Pau, Kobe, & Bynum.. will have alot to do with it!!! Let’z keep him…

  • xxv112002

Getting rid of Lamar is getting rid of the triple post offense. Which we will need come playoffs. Anrei sucks. All he does is block shots and stand on the 3 point line. Lamar rebounds, pass, post up etc. Why would you trade that?

  • Phant0M

    fuc** this…

    dont do it mitch…

  • c

ditto, Lamar knows the system and has better chemistry and besides have you seen the last few games. There’s an entertaining dynamic between Lamar and Pau, I would say even moreso than between Kobe and Pau (granted, maybe I am just used to Kobe’s skill)

the day has come for me to say it….
Mitch is too smart to make this dumb move!!!

  • Jrich

Wow. So many of you guys becoming Lamar believers after talking all kinds of sh*t about him.

  • Lonestar848

The Gasol trade has really helped Lamar. He doesn’t need to be the 2nd option anymore, giving him the ability to make plays. When Bynum comes back he will still be valuable. If either Gasol or Bynum get in foul trouble, we have Odom to seamlessly step in as the PF.

AK is good but then he will have to learn the triangle. Also Odom’s contract is more flexible.

Sidenote: Gasol said he wants to retire a Laker!

  • Lakers4Life

Hell no! We should not TRADE LAMAR!!!

  • aviva

Recent games he showed great, but he is still not a stable guy,he need to figure out sth.
One good for him,he can be most positions in need.

Maybe kid is great, but i don’t see any chance for him to be Lakers unless he just want to get a title with KoBe~~~

  • LakerSon24

This is just BS, they are extending Bynum this summer to a max contract, why would they take kirilenko for 2 more years at $14 mil+. This doesn’t make sense financialy! Most likely Odom will be resigned at 8-9mil and he’s playing good so far since the Gasol trade!

  • http://thelakersnation.com Tyler

id rather see odom stay because he is shining with gasols presence so i think hes just as valuable as the guy who looks like a bird(ak-47).

Also i wouldnt count on it there in playoff contention too so why would they trade to try to make us better

  • HiYo2o

That’s true what’s the point of trading someone who already fits in the offense for someone who wants the ball more as a fourth option? Plus Andrei contracts is gonna be big to take on. Don’t forget Bynum’s contract is about to be renewed, we can’t lose him. We know for sure that Kobe and Pau are gonna want to retire a Laker but we still got to have some money for Bynum.

  • Michael_23

Nope, I wouldn’t do it. In the beginning of the season I would for Shawn Marion or maybe even Ron Artest, but Lamar has been playing very well lately. And he’s been playing well as the 3rd option behind Kobe, Bynym or Pau.

  • http://yahoo.com cfresh

nope don’t do it, makes no sense. Lamar knows his place on the roster now and he is filling up the stat sheets like he used to.

THE ONLY THING THAT IS CONSISTANT ABOUT LAME-AR IS HIS INCONSITANCY. AK47 IS JUST AS INCONSISTANT. AS MUCH AS I DISLIKE LAMAR I HAVE TO GIVE HIM PROPS ON STEPPING UP SINCE WE GOT GASOL. I DONT THINK WE SHOULD MAKE THIS TRADE.BUT WE ALSO SHOULDN’T PAY LAME-AR AS MUCH AS WE DO IF HE CANT BE A CONSISTANT #2 GUY.

  • Lakerboi

I always like Lamar- he is well rounded player. We are okay for now; no more trades.

  • Keep Odom

Of course everyone is talking good about Odom after trashing him. Before Bynum’s resurgence and the Gasol trade Odom was the only player on the Lakers who had the potential to be a great 2nd option. Fans forget that he was averaging about 17 pts with Miami. Then, he comes to the Lakers and his production went way down. But now, when the pressure is off of him and he is an awesome 3rd or even 4th scoring option. Plus, he creates bad match up problems at the 3 rather than the 4 for other teams. Odom is a million times better at the 3 than luke is. So yeah! now we want him here. His production has gone up and he is at his natural position. Plus he is willing to play and not whine about playing time like AK47.

do you really need to use ALL CAPS to convey your point?

  • Keep Odom

Hell yeah! I agree 100% with what JAY said about Luke. Luke has got to go. He has got to be the most overrated player in the league. I myself would of traded Luke and Cook for Ariza and kept Mo Evans. Which by the way, he is now a starte with the Magic. Also, I would like to of seen the Lakers try and get Mike Miller and Gasol and the Lakers could of included Luke walton in the deal. Luke is just a contract player. Whenever his contract year comes up he plays hard or whenever he feels like it. He needs to be in the Shaquille Oneal hall of fame.

  • nyla

    I wouldn’t do it.

  • hubbit

They are alot alike: both dissappear in games for stretchs at a time, both are inconsistent.

At least Lamar is a better rebounder and like has been noted, his contract is shorter.

Also, I believe Lamar is stronger both physically and emotionally than AK47.

    KEEP LAMAR!

  • shortdiezel

    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DCLAKER

HELL TO – THE – NAH! Mitch didn’t trade LO for a reason and that reason is because of size.I respect AK47 but compared to LO,there’s NO comparison.AK47 can’t facilitate the way LO does, anybody see the alley-oop to PAU last night.Defensively they about the same but AK can’t bring the ball up the court plus he doesn’t pose any real threat to opposing teams.I think we all have gotten on LO’s case but I think we see the REAL value in him now.Like I said before the ONLY REASONABLE FOR LO IS SHAWN MARION,PERIOD,other than that NO TRADE!!!!

  • xtro

Nooooooo!!! No puede! Lamar es muy importante para el equipo.

  • gugy

Lamar is stepping up his game since Gasol got here. So, I will give him a vote of confidence. So keep it until the end of the season. Let’s see how he will perform on the playoffs.
We need to get rid off Luke and Mihn. These are the last two scrubs on our team. Even Sasha is higher now on my list.
Vlad also could be use on a trade bait.

I would vote to get Artest. He would be very helpful on the defense end.

  • Banks

Why would we want a bad version, and even less consistent version of LAMAR ODOM… he is soooo much better than AK in soooo many different aspects. Lamar is in the best position of his career, doing what he does best in his best position on the court. He no longer has to be depended upon to score, and without that pressure he does extremely well. Once Bynum is back in the line up Ill be looking forward to seeing a lot more double doubles if not TRIPLE DOUBLES like he got yesterday night against the Twolves.

  • http://letsgolakers.com Mr.81

    Not happening.

  • e-Lan7

i prefer ak47 than LO because of his defensive skill… what odom lacks is his defense, we all know that he is stepping up his games ryt now but still no defense.. ak47 can pass the ball, if we talk about points, kb24 is there and pau… when bynum gets back, odom doesn’t need to rebound a lot bcoz there’s pau and drew and odom plays @ 3.. offense can’t win a championshp but defense can so, get this trade…make it happen!

  • dcb2069

So we’ve decided to like Lamar now, eh? Oh, how fans change their minds so easily…

  • pr0mega

Just a ‘what if’ rumor. It will never happen. Phil needs Lamar in the triangle system. You can all hate on him as much as you want, but in the end of the day, other than Kobe and recently Bynum, Odom has had the most pressure on him to perform and hasn’t done that bad. Now more than ever, he’s dominating the small forwards and rebounding/assisting at will.

I dub Lamar Odom — TRIPDUB

  • gugy

I think most of us prior to the Gasol traded could not take LO.
After that trade happen, he seems to be more comfortable in the position he is now and contributing way more.
That’s why, I think we should hold off for now and see how this thing develops. If he then becomes the old LO inconsistent and afraid, then Ship his ass out!

    i prefer AK47 than odom..why?

a better passer, better ft shooter, better fg percentage, better 3pt percentage and most of all, his defensive awareness..

    AK47:
    PPG 11.8
    RPG 5.4
    APG 4.5
    SPG 1.3
    BPG 1.8

    Odom:
    PPG 13.2
    RPG 9.9
    APG 3.4
    SPG 0.8
    BPG 0.6

  • getgasol

Hell no. Keep Odom. He is flourishing in this new lineup.

  • DingleBerry

this would be a great trade. his defense and shot block ability would take us to the next step. the only thing bad against it is that would give us more white people than black people on the team andi dont think since 1955 a team with more white people than blacks have ever won the championship…

    8-6

    ak47
    mimh
    walton
    vlad
    sasha
    coby
    farmar
    gasol

    kobe
    fish
    bynum
    ariza
    turiaf

  • jack

I hope this is just rumors. Odom understands the triangle, and is a rebounding machine these days. He just had a 3ple double. AK-no way.

I seriously think the lakers now should start working hard, having a sense of security for their jobs in mind and worry about nothing, but winning something.

  • mikedeezy2k8

as a laamr fan since day one and never saying he sucks cuz of aa slump. i say keep him as ive always said

  • DCLAKER

I think LO has dedicated himself to winning with the Lakers and has already said he wants to RETIRE(I hope in about 6yrs)a LAKER. GUGY made an excellent observation,as well as Banks in stating that ever since Pau has been here LO has been a TOTALLY different player and I couldn’t agree more.LO has had times when he seemed kinda lost but now he’s just UNSTOPPABLE,plus why would you trade one Kobe’s best friends(yes it’s true,Kobe has friends),they are trying to keep him happy, that means no more summer tantrems(which he was right in doing,it’s just the way he went about it).Let’s just PRAY this is just a rumor ’cause LO IS our key to A CHAMPIONSHIP!

  • lakers4lyfe

LO aint going nowhere….so keep your pants on people. and i think the front page should have all the lakers on it. not just gasol and kobes name.

  • T-Dub

The Lakers don’t need to do anything else…they’re set! They can win at least 3 rings in the next 5 years with the team they have. PG is the weakest position we have and Fish and Farmar collectively are outplaying the opposing teams PG. If Lamar is willing to take a paycut after next season, Kobe will equal MJ’s 6 rings or better!

  • bryan

glad to see all the odom supporters. where has “odom the worst player” and “lame-ar odumb” been at? haven’t seen a post from them in a while.. i guess they have nothing to say when they can’t talk shyt about lamar. at least 187 on boston has balls to come out and say something and give credit where credit is due. keep lamar and there will be more tripple doubles to come.. from the guy that was called one dimensional by some stupid fan that i argued with before.. was is it odom the worst player? where you at man? im still here defending odom after his bad games… where u at when he has good games? hiding in a hole like osama

  • http://thelakersnation.com kb24 4life

    keep LO…

  • http://www.kornspace.com KHRIS

One triple double and now hes untouchable. He still doesnt play great defense and he still zones out.

  • http://getgarnett.com jonasjulienjoseph

L.O MAN HE IS NOT GOIN NO WHERE, AND WE DONT NEED AK47 AND I DONT EVEN LIKE TO CALL HIM THAT BEACOUSE THEASE PAST YEARS HE HASENT EARNED IT, SO LAMAR IS STAYING WITH US AND ESPECT MORE TRIPPLE DOUBLES FROM LAMAR “STAR ON MY HEAD” ODOM

  • jay

LO is the truth everyone will see. put him at the 3..he’ll score and pass, put him at the 4 he’ll rebound and pass o yea and put backs are his thing at the moment. he also has good defense. Just remeber the clipper days. He doesnt have to worry anymore he is the 3rd option. Get it he will play the 3, so he is the 3rd option. We dont need AK47 cuz ariza n bynum bring up our defense ten fold.

  • somelakerfan1

why do we need AK47. for defense? no we dont need more defense we have 2 7footers with lamar playing at the 3 position. at the bench ronny plus ariza sasha and farmar we dont need ak were fine.

  • Fantastic5LAL

i think fans would hate AK47. He is just too ugly to be a Laker.

and to whoever said Kirilenko is a better passer, you must be crazy.

Only thing Kirilenko is better at is blocking shots and a little bit better at moving his feet.

LO is a much better rebounder, ball handler and will flourish under his new role with the Gasol as he has already shown

  • DCLAKER

    So it’s official,AK-47 CAN GO SHOOT SOMEWHERE ELSE(DAMN THAT’S FUNNY…TO ME)!

  • west213

IF LAKERS MAKE THIS TRADE IMA BE FAKIN MAD!!!

  • willow

[Comment ID #25959 Will Be Quoted Here]

This is true and I was one of them but I think the best thing to happen to LO was the Gasol trade. I was always critical of his lack of heart and passion playin ball but I just accepted that he’s just not that type of player we all want him to be. He is more complimentary and does the little things that sometimes doesn’t show on the box score. There should be no more “potential” talk about this guy and accept him for who he is…a nice complimentary player to great players. I’m going on record here to say “keep LO” for chemistry’s sake and for his sake.

  • T-Dub

I think people…including myself… were down on Odom because he hasn’t stepped up in the past when it was needed by his team. Now with Pau getting it done, its no longer needed. He can now be the role player that he always been instead of a go to guy everyone else wanted him to be. But its not worth 14 mil per. His shooting percentage is up but his numbers are the same.

You can’t blame the Lakers FO for his contract. Blame that on Miami and Pat Riley. They are the ones that gave him a $60+M contract.
