Kobe, Odom didn’t like “DUI” chants

I thought it was classless. Melo went to the line to chants of “DUI.” It really actually upset me. When opposition aruond the league talks about “classless fans” we shouldn’t be on that list. Like booing Kwame earlier this season, I thought the chants were CLASSLESS. Odom didn’t like it, what did you think?

Rocky Mountain News: Players on both teams, though, believe Game 2 will be clean. Lakers forward Lamar Odom is hoping fans won’t continue to yell “DUI” at Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony because of his recent arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.

“That’s tough,” Odom said. “You don’t like to see that.”

Bryant also admonished Lakers fans for chanting “D-U-I” when Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was at the free-throw line. “I thought it was uncalled for,” he said. “But it’s fans being fans.”

To answer the question of whether is classy or not to chant “DUI”, no it isn’t. Neither is Booing Fisher and throwing water bottles on the court, or yelling “rapist” by the Denver crowd. But, to say whether it is right or wrong is up for each of individually to judge for themselves. I for one think that it is karma for how badly they treated and continue to treat Kobe in Denver. So, it would be hypocritical for anyone from Denver to have a negative opinion about this.

But 2 wrongs never make anything right, just ask The President.

      I agree with LO!!

    • sK

Putting innocent lives at risk behind the wheel while intoxicated is NOT classy.

we focus on the wrong stuff all the time.

    • Sako

Come on, this is coming from the same guy that got suspended TWICE for marijuana, of course he’s gonna say it’s classless. It’s like chanting “pothead” when he’s shooting free-throws, then asking him if it were classless or not.

living in denver and going to lakers games at the pepsi center and hearing what those fans say to kobe melo got what he had coming the chants should continue. just look back this season when kobe hurt his shoulder in denver the crowd booed when he got up, denvers fans are classless and melo is a punk… payback is a bitch good job lakers fans

      amen to that

I believe that this act had nothing to do with basketball. Even though Nuggets fans chant similar, or worst, chants to our players that does not mean that we should sink down to their level. Come on, we cheer our team not cheer against others, right?

But I do disagree about one point and that is booing Kwame Brown. “This guy cannot play the game of basketball” according to Stephen A. Smith in the best interview in a long time. That NBA player was not worthy of the purple and gold jersey; Gasol is worthy of it for sure, is there even a thought of a comparison?

      ITS D BEANERS!!!

    • Drinky McFly

NBA fans don’t have class. Thats just the way it is.

I wonder how many of those idiots chanting had a beer in their hand and car keys in their pocket. Bunch of idiots, but hey, this is LA. We’re talking lowest common denominator humor.

What did you expect? We are the City of Angels.

i agree…whats the point of bringing in personal matters…but we’ll see what happens

    • playdefense

hahaha it makes me laugh when melo calls the crowd classless. we arent the ones drinking and driving at 4am possibly harming other people. also, he should be resting inside of out drinking andpartying. denver was in the middle of a hard playoff push. he gets paid the big bucks to be ready to perform and help his team. he was not doing that. he was classless for forgetting about his teamates and those other people on the road which he could have hurt. 4-0 sweep.

While everyone is busy “amen”ing each other, I’m going to go ahead and amen to Keep Odom’s comment. Good point.

honestly carmelo anthony deserves all the chants and more. think about it. he is a high profile athlete, who has been given millions and millions of dollars, and who has the responsibility of millions of kids looking up to him. for him to risk all that he has been blessed with in such a stupid manner is terrible. fans all over the nba have yelled things at players forever. it’s part of the game and just as kobe is heckeled throughout the league’s arenas other players should expect the same thing from laker fans. you can’t expect us to just sit and be quiet. there is a reason they call playing at home “homecourt advantage” come on now. chanting is part of that advantage. DUI DUI DUI DUI

it’s the f*ckin playoffs . . . tell him to STFU . . . he’s just prepping us to not Boo him when he comes back down to earth . . . I don’t care how good he’s playing right now . . i think we should trade him and his $11M/year salary . .

    • Kobe08-09

STFU dude YOU STUPID and wtfGary?

    • RoWyN

U guys lighten up! The crowd was just having fun. So what if Utah boo’d fish? So what if Kobe got booed when got up? Fans pay to have fun and trash talking is part of the game. Let them have fun. There is a reason we call home court an advantage. Trust me, those same guys that yelled DUI would be the same ones asking Melo for a picture or an autograph ‘they ever run across him.

Now if they start yelling profanity in front of kids or start throwing bottles or water, then have security kick them out.

As for the DUI chants, don’t be a wuss!

    • RoWyN

Mitch4Pres…..didn’t mean to repeat what u said. Well great minds think alike i guess.

    • Kobe08-09

    • DCLAKER

Sorry Laker fans but that was direspectful.

That the equivalent of your brother(or whatever family member) having a drug problem and your so-called friends tease you about it.

Just because it never happened to you doesn’t mean it won’t(same station, different situation).THIS LAKERNATION NOT UTAH!!!

    • kobe4ever

hahaha DUI DUI DUI. very clever Lakers fans. back in the day no one would whine about this crap. there weren’t all these flagrant fouls called, and fans were more brutal. stop trying to sugar coat the NBA. DUI DUI DUI!!!

    • 187 ON BOSTON

    • kobe4ever

187 ON BOSTON HAHAHAHAHAHA thanks bro I got a good laugh out of that.

    • http://www.modenadude.com/ThaDogg Imadogg

I was chanting it as loud as I could. I’m against drunk driving and us chanting should be another reason Melo should never do this again (as if he needed any more reasons other than drunk driving is stupid), cuz he looked embarrassed and he was missing FTs, it definitely was affecting him. I loved it.
