UPDATE: NBA.com Rookie Ladder: #1 Devin Ebanks, #2 Derrick Caracter

Ebanks is going well so far in the Summer League with back to back 20+ point games. UPDATE: Devin Ebanks remains #1 on the ladder but Derrick Caracter rose up to the #2 spot and now the 2 Laker rookies own the ladder at #1 and #2.

NBA: Ebanks grabs the top spot after his second straight game topping 20 points. In his debut, the No. 43 pick had 21, then followed it up with 24 on Saturday. “It’s just a tremendous opportunity for me,” Ebanks said. “Coming from a great program like West Virginia, I’m used to winning, so I just hope to continue that.”

NBA: Caracter had his second straight double-double in Vegas with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the Lakers’ 92-74 loss to the Nuggets on Saturday. “Nobody can stop him in the block,” said teammate Devin Ebanks.

These two are really, really good

  • Betto

This is getting interesting, first of all they should sign Fisher and get done with that.. Second they should sign this 2 rookies, I think they have potential to be future starters specially Devin Ebanks. Third, either T-Mac or Raja Bell should be great for the team, if the Lakers can sign both even better.. xD Is it just me or the new Heat trio are acting like clowns, having too much talent isn’t always better.. >,>

    • http://www.twitter.com/TLN24 Marwan Marzina

Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

    • http://www.jackyang.info Jack Y.

Exactly. There’s also something dark/evil/dishonest about all three of them.

As for the Lakers, those were the exact players I suggested. Except, I suggested that if we were to get only 1 of T-mac or Bell, we should resign DJ Benga just to fill the roster to 13 players (minimum).

    • nath

I think the big Three in Miami does not complement each other like the three in Celtics. Believe me. This Dwade + Bosh + LBJ will turn out to be nothing more than commercial. Lakers will 3-peat

    • http://www.jackyang.info Jack Y.

If my judgement is correct, Lebron and Wade both needs the ball heavily to be effective. They don’t like to play off-ball. Both of these guys get credited for being great defensive players, but rather, they gamble a lot. They go after the highlight plays, they don’t do the little things to help their teams.

      • 242LakerFan

Yeah, I can see LeBron strolling aimlessly around the court like he was against the C’s, sulking about not getting his candy.

  • Str8 Ballin

I think this 2 guys should have drafted in the 1st Round Pick not in the second Round Pick but hey I’m just happy we Drafted them… Hope they MAKE the Team :)

    • Betto

Hellz yeah, let Shannon Brown go and if the Lakers don’t draft them then all I can say to the Lakers is.. BAKA!

      • stewie

what r u talking about why would the lakers let go of shannon brown, hes one of the few young guys on the team and hes legit coming off the bench

        • lakerman34

No. We want nothing to do w/ Shannon Brown. Bell/Barnes/TMac is an upgrade as a backup SG.

All Shannon Brown did was look for the highlight dunk (which many times cost us a possession/turned into a fastbreak for the other team), or gamble on defense (which led to wide open shots).

          NO THANK YOU!

  • TheLAKERSwon09

I like the sound of this! Now please sign fisher

  • http://www.jackyang.info Jack Y.

Ebanks looks and plays like Trevor Ariza. I think he is actually be a much better shooter than Ariza when he first came into the NBA. Recall, Ariza didn’t get his shot down until he had that foot/leg injury. Caracter is just a pleasant surprise.

  • KB 24

U guys stop panicing everything is good we got the best player on the world LA gangsta KB24 and I trust Mitch he knows what he is doing he proved us. Just came down and wait if it is possible to sign bell or T-Mac he will do it.

  • LakErS 3 pEaT

    Sign them Dr Buss

  • alive86

Caracter has really bad hands when handling the basketball, and that’s something you can’t teach a player to get better at. He just doesn’t look natural when he has it in his hands. Have you seen his passing? He is always off balance when he passes, or when he puts the ball on the floor. Caracter is not going to make the team, but Ebanks will.

    • LakErS 3 pEaT

Really? He’s rank third right now. If I was Dr Buss I wouldn’t want to lose him

      • keepon_keepinon18

Thats exactly right. He is ranked third “right now”. Its going to take more than 2 good performances in 2 games to make a world championship team. Just as you, I am really surprised at Caracter’s post moves but don’t forget that he is still undersized at 6’9″. As for Ebanks, he will need to continue making that 3 point shot.

        • team_me

ok boozer millsap and davis are all undersize.! and they doin good wit there nba careers so far.!

          • keepon_keepinon18

Thats what I mean ~ undersized players like Boozer, Milsap, and DAvis have proven themselves. We just need to wait to see whether Caracter can do the same.

        • cjm

how “undersized” can he be for a PF? an extra 3″ makes him a center, and an extra inch 6’10″ makes him into lamar, who is praised for his length. seems like he has shown a lot of promise so far and genuinely cares about making the team.

    • cjm

all the *professional* reports on caracter praise his “soft hands” and “deft touch”.

    • 242LakerFan

Your getting taken in like a lot of people will. He does look awkward and clumsy handling the ball at times, but that was a knock on Bib Goofy Davis, too. I recall in the Finals thinking several times how off balance he was going at the basket…just before the shot fell in and the whistle blew for an “and-1″.

  • xxv112002

Caracter has a huge body and loves to bang inside. However, he doesn’t have the length to protect the paint. I hope he works up to be a Glen Davis. He needs to work on his post up, his footing and get in shape. Lakers would like him to be down to 260-265. I think he’ll be a much better option than Josh Powell. Hopefully.

    • cjm

      he’s alreay better than powell.

  • Danny T

    sign them both

  • leor_77

Guys, let’s not get out of hand with these guys…Last year, Adam Morrison was unstoppable in Summer League.

    • LakErS 3 pEaT

But Adam Morrison didn’t even get to play during last season to proved himself…

    • JohnJohn

Adam “The Doors” Morrison shot the ball like he was KB#8

  • nath

Don’t get too excited. Talent is ok but you can’t make the team if you can’t understand triangle. That’s the point. But I think they will sign both. If they trade, they will be too precious part.

  • Lakersince84

We don’t need Raja Bell, Tmac would be a good pickup to step in when Kobe steps out and to back up Steve Blake at point guard T-Mac does pretty good at that position. I’d rather have Matt Barnes on the team than Raja Bell I don’t think Raja is the same as he was when he guarded Kobe pre-Pau Gasol.

  • rondo

Ebanks and Caracter will make the roster they cost very little. The Lakers are not going to pay a million each to keep 2 vets at the end of the bench. Rookies with some skills more economical.

    • nath

No team win with E they win with D and O

    • http://www.jackyang.info Jack Y.

Yeah. I hope Lakers lock them up each with 2-3 year deals starting at 450k each. That’s around the rookie minimum.

  • Lakers2010Champss

Sign them And Later ebanks will develop more like trevor and be a starter when artest retires lol but im just saying lol

  • yash

I hope we can make a trade for melo. give up odom or bynum. lol jk melo is just as big as a winner as lbj

  • NBAmazingKB24

This kid looks and plays like trevor ariza…

  • KING

hopefully we can keep both for cheap and they can develop with a championship pedigree… it will take time tho since phil doesnt play rookies

  • Daryl Imhoff

The most important signing for the Lakers is Derek Fisher. Go bank and replay the finals games. It is Fisher who is on the floor for the loose balls. He had two jump balls with KG and won one of them. How can Ray Allen be worth 10mil a year and Fisher not worth 5 mil. Allen had one good game and Fisher was a contributor in all 7.
Sign the rookies and D. Fish and T Mac. The Lakers will be the first team to get T Mac out the first round of the play offs.

  • rondo

Devin Ebanks and Derrick Caracter will turn out alright working with Kobe, Fisher and company. They will develop into good Laker players. When teams like the Lakers get players this deep in the draft with talent they hold on to them.

  • LakErS 3 pEaT

Derrick Caracter three games with a double- double that’s good! And Devin EBanks is good too!

  • LakErS 3 pEaT

Sign these guys or Miami will pick them up…

  • LAKESHOW3PEAT

I like Caracter, I like his offense and more but I don’t like the turnovers and dumb fouls he is averaging 8 fouls a game but he is a rookie. Ebanks is ariza lost brother or cousin or something lol. I really hope Ebanks makes the team and same with carcacter. I also like the center for their summer league team as a back up better than Mbenga and I like Gerald Greene I think he can make a great comeback with the lakers and he would take the money that they would offer unlike bell, barnes, and t-mac

  • LAKESHOW3PEAT

and i havnt heard any talk about the lakers wanting t-mac or about t-mac having interest in signing with the lakers for how much money they can offer
