Picture 1This will be an interesting one.

With the news that the Memphis Grizzlies bought out Allen Iverson’s contract, it got us thinking…

We do have a lot here who criticize the Lakers PG play. Perhaps Iverson needs a better place to fit in (aka a Championship contending team). Either way, would the Lakers even look his way? Would the fans accept it?

So we’ll keep it short and simple and let you guys duke it out. Allen Iverson. Would you like to see the Lakers try to pick him up?

Welcome to this edition of the Nation Discussion. Remember, we’re talking about “discussion,” not “practice”.

  • Matt from Dallas

    i like the idea

  • daboss1848

    No, thank you.

  • Vic

    Short answer: NO
Long answer: Not enough shots to go around. Has shown he won’t accept a “role”. And doesn’t solve our PG defense issues.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

If he was younger, in his prime, didnt have a problem coming of the bench, didnt have the bad boy attitude… maybe.

But now, seeing what he did to Grizzlies, Pistons and Nuggets, no thank you.

  • L.A.

Yes bring A.I. to the Lakers! A.I. can play Shooting Guard behind Kobe. I bet he don’t mind playing for a contender. The Lakers need to wave Adam Morrison and bring in Iverson. Maybe Sasha can move up to play small forward and Iverson to play SG. Fisher as PG with Shannon and Farmar… We got Artest for a risk, why make it Iverson as well!

    • Sako

So you expect to get rid of Morrison’s contract by waving him?

      • L.A.

Lol Well send him home then..

  • http://www.ld2k.com Chris Manning

    It’ll never happen — won’t be sad if it doesn’t either… but hmmmm….

  • Trem

No, I understand that this is up for discussion but simple no. He would hurt us more than help us.

  • gugy

AI doesn’t accept to be a bench player, so then NO thank you!

I like AI, but we have Fish and Brown is developing into a good PG. Farmar is probably leaving after this year, so we should be looking into another PG next season. Unfortunately Ai is too much of a prima dona and we do not need any distractions, we have enough already.

  • lakaluva

Let’s see. AI… Farmar/Sasha… AI… Farmar/Sasha. I think this is an easy one. For those of you that think there will not be enough shots, guess what? Kobe needs to take less shots. Artest is comfortable not hoisting up 17 shots a night, and let’s be honest, we need help in the worst way with our bench, they just flat out suck, with the exception of Shannon and Josh.

  • drive-for-16th

waive morrison, trade sasha and farmar. put fisher on the bench start a.i at the point and bring shannon as 2 guard of the bench.

  • inverse

    Simple. HELL MUTHAFU CKIN NO!

  • http://twitter.com/AceFreshh Freshh

The Cancer is not the Answer.

    • lakerbunny

      SHOULD THAT BE “KANSWER”?

  • daboss1848

y do so many want to waive morrison? If u waive him, u must still pay him. We have 13 on roster – 15 max (so there is space for two more players, or multiple players for 1 trade)

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

I say we trade for CP3. Honestly, Mitch please pull this off and forever will your name be remembered in LA. Seriously, we have about 3 $5 million contracts.

    Sasha, Adam Morrison and Walton.

That adds up to $15 million and CP3’s contract fits in with theirs. If New Orleans doesnt want, they can think that they are getting 2 shooters and a great passer but the reason we need CP3 over those 3 is that he can do what those 3 can but better. He can fix our “cant guard quick point guards” problem. He can be starter and Fisher can go bench since PJ wants to limit his minutes anyway.

CP3 is angry that Hornets’ front office didnt talk to him before getting rid of Byron Scott and he is angry with their lack of wins so he should come to LA where he can boost our wins and also win a ring here under the greatest coach of all time, Phil Jackson.

Well its good to dream at least.

    • Sako

Do you really think the Hornets front office is filled with R-Tards walking around with helmets on and bumping into walls? Their not dumb. Thats like the Clippers offering us Telfair, Novak, and Rasual Butler for Kobe. Don’t you realize that CP3 isn’t “your starting point guard”, he’s “your franchise player”, a guy that can carry a team, not a above-average player to have on the side. If you’re gonna make retarded ideas like this, stick with the ESPN Trade Machine and ESPN message boards.

      • lakerbunny

ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY THE CLIPPERS FRONT OFFICE WALKS AROUND STAPLES CENTER WEARING HELMETS AND BUMPING INTO WALLS? I WONDERED WHO THOSE PEOPLE WERE, I THOUGHT THEY WERE JUST A TOUR GROUP!

        • Sako

Sorry, Clippers were a bad example, they are well known for having major r-tards in the front office. haha.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

I understand where you are coming from but wasnt a ‘disgruntled’ Jackson traded from Warriors to Bobcats?

Wasnt Shaq a franchise player and he was traded too?

Wasnt Pau also a franchise player and he was traded too.

The bottom line is, the GMs dont want to anger players, or for future players too. They dont give what the players want now, future players wouldnt want to play there thinking “Oh, I dont get what I want, I dont get treated right.”

Pau was angry with Grizzlies and demanded a trade and they traded him. So did Stephen Jackson. Minnesota gave away KG, their franchise player.

The point is, anything can happen.

      • Sako

Yeah, Shaq was traded, for a package built around Lamar Odom and Caron Butler, not Sasha Vujacic, Adam Morrison, and Luke Walton. And Memphis got what they mainly wanted in that trade, a big EXPIRING contract along with several future picks, not several $5 million dollar contracts with several years left on them. I don’t think the Hornets are that desperate to accept every garbage trade thrown at them. Don’t you think they’d be asking for maybe Bynum+Artest/Odom+Farmar for Chris Paul+filler(s)?

      • http://LakersNation Marwan

Well you have a point. If there is any team that would be willing to take Morrison and Vujacic off us, maybe Mitch can organise a 3 team trade. As long as we end up with CP3 at the end.

        • Sako

Besides, i doubt the Lakers would go for CP3 while Phil’s coach. A dominating pg is something that doesn’t fit in to the triangle.

        • http://LakersNation Marwan

Thats pretty stupid but, passing on a dominating guard, or a player for that matter, that will solve your matchup problems just because he wont fit in with the triangle.

Thats like saying to Pau, we dont need you now, we have Kobe.

I say, every chance at acquiring such a player such as CP3, Lebron, DWade, seize the opportunity and get them. Celtics did that and now they have like 5 All Stars.

        • KB24

          You’re an idiot.

  • LAKESHOW420

we really need to do something about our bench but AI may not be the answer….. No pun intended

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

The question is, who can improve Lakers even more?

    He is not the answer.

  • Jim

If AI would accept a subordinate role, and was all about winning, I would consider it because of the potential instant offense he could provide off of the bench (Lord knows we need it), but unfortunately,in his last 2 stops, it seems like the only thing he’s concerned with is trying to uphold his reputation as one of the elite players of this league while his deteriorating skills are proving otherwise.

And Vic is right, he definitely doesn’t solve our PG defense issues.

  • http://lakersground.net lakers4life2417

hmmmm…interesting. it would be good to have someone off the bench who can actually score some points. our bench cant score to save their life.

  • ricky

We don’t need him but I really wouldn’t mind having him. Despite all the issues he’s been having the past few seasons with his former teams, he is still a guy who can play a few more seasons. I also don’t think that he will cause any problems if we were to pick him up because he is playing with the BEST player and BEST coach and he MUST know this is KOBE’s team and he and only he comes first and Pau is a close second. So if we decide to pick him up or he wish to join a contender, I would hope he change his attitude. Just look how well Ron has been, he’s been in check of his emotions and has really matured because he knows there is no fooling around when it comes to Kobe, Phil and the Lakers!

  • lilkobe24

well the reason hes acting like that because his team sucks! he comes to lakers then he will stfu and be good :D

  • drive-for-16th

is it possible to get brandon jennigs. that boy is crazy.

    • kobe-wan kenobi

yeah, i dont think there is any problem
actually mitch is discussing a trade farmar for jennings

      lol

      get a clue

  • ArtWhittier

I think this would clearly look like a desperate move for the lakers. Sure we need a point guard but this guy is NOT the answer. He was once a great player, how he just seems like a problem. I say theres a 3% chance of this happening and if it would I dont think it would turn out very well.

  • drive-for-16th

BRENDON JENNING IS THE ANSWER NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • lakerbunny

ARE THERE T-TARDS IN HELMETS IN MILWAUKEE TOO?

      • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

What about getting Lebron for Vujacic

  • mr.laker19

My first mind agreed with most of you saying “HELL NAW” Then i thought about it. In the triangle, you dont need a true point guard, you need a scoring point guard that can ocassionally make a play for others. A.I. still can do all that. Im not necessarily for it because of a number of reasons but i dont know if im as apposed to it as i first thought. We need to do something, maybe start shanon or farmar, or add to our bench. Maybe we all need to be patient and wait for Pau to come back, it seems like hes not that far away

  • Myself

AI doesn’t care about winning a championship, all he cares about is putting up numbers (his own numbers). Why do you think he isn’t with Memphis anymore. All he would do is come and destroy the Lakers locker room, and like if the Lakers need another person to try and keep in check with Artest already here.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

Man why are you guys still thinking that Artest is the same Artest from the brawl. Come on now, this guy has been out with fans, great with teammates and he is handling adversity and tough situations pretty well. Shows hes matured and that he really wants this ring.

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

IVERSON FOR FISHER……..LAKERS NEED MORE EGO.

  • lakaluva

Most of you guys don’t want AI because you dislike his attitude. Winning changes that real quick. Luke has a pinched nerve in his back, on top of that he has bad ankles, on top of that, he’s slow, cant shoot, and is a horrible defender. Kobe now has to play more at the three spot, which means we will have to see more of Sasha and Farmar. Even if some miracle happened and our bench decided to improve, we are still not as good as the other top teams benches. These guys blow 20 point leads like nothing. AI may not be the answer, but he damn sure is an upgrade over Farmar, Fish, Sahannon, and Sasha.

  • LAKERS#1

COME ON YOU GUYS I DNT KNOW Y PPL R ALWAYS TRYING TO KEEP FISHER OK I UNDERSTAND HE IS THE HEART OF THIS TEAM BUT WE SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER AI HE WOULD PRODUCE IMMMEDIATE SCORING AND IF WE DNT GET HIM SOMEBODY ELSE WILL LIKE BOSTON IDK IF U GUYS HAVE NOTICED BUT WILL GET DESTROYED BY BOSTON N HEALTHY SPURS TEAM…..IF WE COULD TRADE MORRISON LUKE N FARMAR FOR AT LEAST 1 DECENT PLAYER MY PRAYERS WOULD BE ANSWERED

  • Mitch4Pres

when it comes to ai, my mind’s telling me no but my body’s telling me yes no homo

  • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

My Penis Hurts. Well………..That’s Life Nigga.

  • http://www.ronartest.com Alex Cum Shot

I really just want to cum on an authentic jersey and see if it will come off. I just want to cum, cum, cum, cum and cum all over Kobe Bryant’s wife.

  • Sean All Ivy

It won’t happen but it is VERY intriguing. While with Memphis he did say that he wouldn’t mind coming off the bench for a contender. Also our front office would obviously tell him his role before they offered a contract. I personally think he will end up with Captain Jack in Charlotte.

  • Alan

if we could bring artest, we could bring iverson

  • drive-for-16th

The only thing mitch should be thinking right now is how can we make the bench better, and how to get rid of sasha, morrison, and faramar. so we can atleast get SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO WIN and who will put effort and give us good minutes. not these stupid ass 3 white guys. like wtf man.

  • drive-for-16th

this bench will get raped up the ass by the other elite teams bench.

  • drive-for-16th

we cannot rely on them, they had one good year 2 years ago and that was it. After that some of them (vujacic) got new contracts (vujacic $5.000.000) and that was that.

  • Lakersfannotjustkobefan

Can we trade sasha for five dollar footlongs?

    • Kobe>Jordan

i doubt subway would ever make that trade

    • kobe-wan kenobi

yes but who is gonna eat it?
      too problematic

  • sammie

hmm iverson as a laker huh? well…. he has been one of the nba’s best scoring guards in his first 11 years in his career, he was the rookie of the year in 1997, MVP in 2001, a four-time scoring champion, he led the sixers to the finals against our team, you know what I don’t care, JUST SIGN HIM UP IF YOU CAN! Just think, the world may never see another allen iverson ever again. I just hope the guy doesn’t retire this year, he still got a lot of game left in him.

    • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

      You’s right nigga

  • CuppyXL

Come on guys really? To those who want to sign Iverson, what can he offer the team other than scoring. He has too many miles on him and he presents potential injury problems, his defense looks a little shifty, and most importantly, we don’t need another aged PG playing for the team. Adding Iverson and trading one of the other young guards like Farmar or Vujacic just would leave the team too vulnerable to faster guards. At least with them there is a chance to match their speed and play some D with some of the league’s best PGs. This team already has Kobe, Pau, Bynum, Odom, and Artest as it’s main scorers and adding another would be dumb. Sure the team is going through injuries, but it’s the beginning of the season! This team is a young championship team, that has to find it’s groove and heal. This would be a desperation move more than anything, and right now the Lakers are not in desperation mode.

    • Sean All Ivy

Not to disagree with your points but usually all you need from a bench is scoring. During crunch time when you need a defensive stop your starters will be in.

  • jamba

Get AI!! He wants to play for an Eastern Conference team – so he may go to cavs or celtics….if he goes to celtics their bench would already cream the lakers bench. We need Iverson to come off the bench and score points for these sorry azz mfers. They’ve had their opportunity and didn’t take it – now move your ass over and make room for someone who wants to win. AI’s agent said he is willing to play 2nd string if he is on a title contender. Come on Mitch – go make the trades to get rid of the 3 sorry bitches

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

If he wants to go to those teams let him, he will stuff it up.

He was good in Philly, alright in Denver, and then Detroit and Memphis he screwed them both up.

No point going after him so another team doesnt.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

Mitch Kupchak has proved the haters wrong, and silenced those critics by bringing in Pau, Brown, and Artest. 3 key additions to the lineup and for that I thank him and I give him my gratitude in return. This man seriously is the best GM out there. Not only that but he got players for less than what they are worth, just because the team was tight on money and Artest was willing to take it.

So thank you Mitch and hopefully you can solve our bench problem in a positive way.

  • Robert

The Lakers haven’t been a complete team so far this year. Phil would want the existing team to have a chance to develop. Ron-Ron is still integrating into the team. Adding AI would add another level of complication (but yes, another potential weapon too, in a way).
But, more importantly, how does everyone think AI would get along with Ron-Ron? With Kobe? Already a gaggle of egos. It would be too much for the team, don’t you think?
Also – is AI known for his D? Or, not known for his D? That’s what we need with small PGs from other teams.
Bottom line, it would be challenge to integrate AI, but probably not likely to happen.

  • drive-for-16th

im sayin we need to bench fisher and trade sasha and vujacic for someone, and start a.i. at the point. it would work anything is better than fisher and odom will go to the bench too after pau comes back on thursday. I see it as a good move. if not than we still need a better bench we need to start makin trades.

    • LAKERS#1

THANK YOU IDNT KNOW Y EVERYBODY IS SO HIGH ON FISHER HE NEEDS TO BE ON THE BENCH ……TRADE MORRISON EXPIRING CONTRACT FARMAR YOUNG AND EXPIRING CONTRACT AND INCLUDE SASHA OR LUKE IN THE TRADE PLZ AND INCLUDE MBENGA IDK Y EVERYBODY LOVES HIM SO MUCH…N PHIL SHOULD PLAY POWELL MORE HE HAS SERIOUS SKILLS

  • drive-for-16th

“trade sasha and vujacic for someone” i mean trade sasha and farmar

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

      Kirk Hinrich anyone?

Rafer Alston wants out of NJ, bring him to LA, hes quick, can handle the ball and can shoot it.

  • drive-for-16th

if we can trade Adam morrison too than we should or else we shuldn’t worry bout him too much cause his contract expires and the end of the season. trade him and farmar for teams looking for expiring contracts, vujacic has one more year on his contract trade em all before their contracts expires and we are left with Nothing!! DO IT NOW MITCH

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

Any ideas in mind on who you want?

  • lakerman1

If Mitch decides to pick him up nothing we can do about it. We could only hope he would try to fit in like Ron Artest is trying to do because regardless of what is said on this blog once he becomes a Laker he will get the Fan Love as long as he does not disrupt the team and i know thats a awful big maybe because so far A.I. has not proven to be a team player which may mean coming off the bench. Let him go to the Clippers they need all the help they can get.

  • lakerman1

Marwan says: November 16, 2009 at 9:10 pm

    Agreed 100%

Ron has a heart as big as gold. He reaches out to people. Takes care of his wife & children, Funny how none of those things are not repeated over & over. Harping on a couple of bad decisions made by Ron makes some people feel good about their shallow lives. The man wants to win a Championship and as far as i can see that is what he is trying to accomplish. Leave the Man alone all i see in Ron is a man who stands up for himself not a Thug ( see Denver/Boston )

  • Short Dog

I wouldn’t mind having Iverson on our team. He was an All-Star and he could finally get his ring.

  • ShannonSparta

Let’s put it very simply. Iverson didn’t want to play sixth man on a Memphis Grizzlies team, in a system where he was allowed a little room to showcase his “free-stylin” abilities on the court. WHY would anyone think that he wouldn’t mind playing third string guard, 15 minutes/game, while playing in a structured triangle offense? Everyone who’s seen Iverson over the years knows that he needs to be “the man”, he ain’t gettin that in LA ever. Get out of here AI…

  • Moses

If he accepts a bench role and knows exactly what his role is on the team and still is willing to accept then yeah sure let’s be real he is undoubtedly better than Sasha or Farmar.

But do i think he’ll do that? Probably not, and even if he would will the front office be interested? Probably not…

  • LakerFanThinkinReal

Yesssssssssss! better than Sasha and Jordan!!!!!! Obviously, if he accepts a bench role for the bling.

  • The Mamba24

HELL NO. Keep that cancer away from the Lakers squad PLEASE!

  • http://www.myspace.com/peopleofthesun Evil Empire

    NO!

  • LakersfaninEDMONTONgoOilers&Lakers!

I like AI, followed him for a long time, but for him to come to the Lakers he would have to come off the bench behind Fish. If he wants to win a title before he retires then he should come to La as a backup if not then he should retire or play for the Sacremento Queens or another team like that.

  • http://www.richardsonshops.com RockitD

AI is too much of a ball hog. He and Carmelo couldn’t work…he didn’t work in Memphis…he’s best fit in New York with D’Antoni. He and Kobe are both scorers…couldn’t co-exist…
