Has Mitch given up on any trades during the remaining of the off-season? We hope not. Sound-off in the comments on let us know what you think. This ain’t gonna be pretty…

Dime’s Magazine’s Blog: In L.A. they’re only worried about one guy being disgruntled: Kobe. Even though every major free agent slipped past L.A. and no big trades were made, GM Mitch Kupchak told the L.A. Daily News he likes the Lakers’ roster: “If this was the team that we started the season off with, I would be fine with it,” Kupchak said. “I feel that we’re an improved team over last year.” Kupchak was reffering to re-signing Luke Walton and Chris Mihm, picking up Derek Fisher in free agency, drafting Javaris Crittenton and the assumption that Jordan Farmar, Andrew Bynum and Ronny Turiaf will keep getting better. With Kobe and Lamar Odom doing their usual thing, could the Lakers win more games this year than last year? Possibly. Are they any closer to winning a championship? Not at all. Look at their division: the Suns are still gonna be title contenders; Golden State could ride the momentum of last year to a much better record, they added a Lottery pick in Brandan Wright, and a healthy Baron Davis and more-experienced Monta Ellis are super-dangerous; then the Kings upgraded their frontcourt (Hawes, Moore) and their coach (Theus). The Clippers are gonna be awful until Elton Brand comes back, so while they’ll probably finish in last-place, you could conceivably see the Lakers finishing fourth. And how is Kobe gonna react when he sees that happening, especially if no major trade-deadline move is made?

  • Michael_23

This is Mitch saying, “We’re done making our off season moves, I like our chances for a championship.”

    LoL

  • Ben The Lakers Fan

Bottom line is: Who The Hell Cares what Kupcake does anymore !!!!

It all comes down to the owner of the team, we noticed how involved the Wolve’s owner was when KG was moved, he was all over the media, why, because he cares about his team, the city & the fans ..
where is our teams owner?? Missing in action still .. Maybe getting F .. Up in Bakersfield or San Diego or where ever the heck it is that he goes to party, are those 19 year olds more important than our city’s beloved team ” The Lakers ” we’re talking about one of if not the best team in pro basketball & the owner does not care about it anymore !
Great, just what we needed, an owner who leaves the fate of this great team of ours in the hands of a dumb ass GM & “i dont know what to do” Jimmie , come’on show some leadership Jerry !

    Pissed off Laker Fan.

  • lakers4life

lmao were gonna get 4th place?? haha yeah right…only phx is better than us in the pacific

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

I honestly believe that Mitch is playing mind games with Bird. I know Mitch is a moron and he can’t think that far ahead, but I think that he might be able to pull this one out. Mitch does believe that this is the best possible team that he can put on the court, but he knows that if he doesn’t get JO this would be the end of his career.

I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF SOME CRAZY LAKER FAN ENDS UP ASSASSINATING THIS SOB MITCH!!!!!! AND I’M DEAD SERIOUS ABOUT IT TOO!!!!!!

  • http://www.mr47.com mr47

Reporter: Do you honestly think this roster is what you want to go into the offseason with?

Mitch: Yes, you see not everyone has a magic wand. When the wand says you stay, you stay, and you stick to it.

  • jason kidd is the answere

If the lakers dont get onea’l or kidd the lakers are done!!!!
sounds like kobe will be a bull next year!

  • keep24

You guys really need to get off Mitch’s case. He’s nothing but a mouth piece for Jerry Buss and family. He has no real power, none!!!

I don’t believe that he thinks this tem is “fine”. Given the chance he would have traded Bynum last year – but he was not given the power.

Jerry or Jim Buss have the final say and it has will always be their call. The only reason why he still has his job is because he’s doing what he was told to do: NOTHING !

DO NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE TEAM!
    DO NOTHING TO PLEASE KOBE!
DO NOTHING TO PLEASE THE FANS!
DO NOTHING TO SECURE THE FUTURE!

    JOB WELL DONE !!!

  • cyrus

    Sad but so true.

  • gugy

Kobe will be leaving soon. I don’t blame him. I would the same if I was in his shoes.
    Micth and Jim Buss Sucks!

  • cyrus

GM Mitch Kupchak: “If this was the team that we started the season off with, I would be fine with it,”

Mitch is “fine” with it!!!! This statement is outrageous and it just shows the shameful ignorance at the front office. Does any one care if fans are “fine” with it? Is Kobe “fine” with it? I bet they’re also “fine” with raising ticket prices!!!

What else would you expect from a mentally retarded person. a lifeless puppet is “fine” with anything.

  • double

This might be giving Mitch more credit than he deserves, but maybe he’s playing poker… Using the media to make the Lakers appear less desperate. He MUST know that the off-season will be a complete failure if Fisher is our biggest acquisition. We’re still in play for O’Neal, maybe he’s starting to play Bird’s game.

    If I’m wrong, he’s a total douche-bag.

  • dantheman

i dunno im starting to think it would be stupid to trade for someone like JO that can opt out of his contract next year…..we can just sign him next year and stil kepp bynum and odom…

it took us 10 years to get to the finals last time ( and, that was under The Great Jerry West). I wonder how many decades it will take for us to get back to the finals under the leadership of the Three Stooges?

The over and under here is a quarter of a century. Any takers?

[quote]Although highly unlikely due to the fact they share the same city, a deal that would send Maggette across the hall to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Kwame Brown would appear to make the most sense. Of course, under the NBA’s trade rules, small parts like Will Conroy would have to be included to make the salaries match. But Brown would be a short term fix for the Clippers since he is in the final year of his contract, and would pair with Kaman as a very young exciting frontcourt tandem. For the Lakers, they would insert the talented small forward into the starting lineup between Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom while freeing up minutes in the paint for the emerging Andrew Bynum. • D. Imhoff

Here is a scenario we as Laker fans have to consider. We trade for O’Neal and Koby forces a trade. Then O’Neal opps out. Now, where are the Lakers. At that point are we better off having made the trade or should we have kept Bynum and the others to mix with whatever the FO gets for Koby. The most recent word from Koby’s camp, thru Bucher, is that Koby will never play for the Lakers again. Shouldn’t the Lakers get some assurance that if a trade is made for O’Neal that neither O’Neal nor Koby will opt out or do the Lakers wait for Koby to show at training camp and the price for O’Neal to drop? I hate waiting, but it may be the smart move at this point

  • http://www.myspace.com/regg66 rpouncy14

It’s gonna be Kobe’s last game as a laker.

I feel better that Mitch would accept that as a good time frame for rebuilding…..a couple of decades.

    FIRE MITCH!!!!

  • cyrus

    D. Imhoff,

I hope it would never happen but let us just assume for a moment that we would lose Kobe and JO (JO opts out after he signed and played the season). That would give us a salary room of about $40-Mil. The free agency market will include many quality players next summer; here are a few top players that are going to be available next off-season, either because of expiring contracts or they reach their opt-out year:
    Gilbert Arenas
    Bruce Bowen
    Mile Finley
    Ron Artest
    Shawn Marion
    Elton Brand
    Correy Maggette.
    And many more.

Also, please do yourself a favor and don’t believe anything Ric Bucher says, he’s a shameless liar and master of deception. He would sell his own mother to gain a couple of points in ratings.

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

Guys, I just read on ESPN that Juwan Howard from the Timberwolves wants to be traded. Can’t we trade Cook for Howard or something like that?

Let me know what you guys think. Maybe we can trade for Howard and use him in a trade to the Pacers for JO.

  • Faith

The thing about it is…they’re really in a no win situation. They don’t go after and sign players, and they’re making Kobe’s argument. THey do go after and Kobe still opts out, and whoever they get also opts out, well then they used up the pieces of the future. But for my money, I’ll bet on Kobe staying if we’re proactive. There’s a very very strong pull in becoming, staying a Laker. Especially for someone as big a Laker fan as Kobe. All it needs is a commitment to winning now…which obviously we don’t show.

  • http://www.lakers.com Ed

Where the hell did you guys get the idea that Kobe or JO are going to opt out? JO wants to be a freakin’ Laker!!!! He will never opt out if he comes to LA, he will actually sign an extention the second he is traded!!!!!! Kobe will not leave the Lakers no matter what, especially if we get Jo without giving up Odom!!!!! So get the whole idea of JO opting out of his contract from the Lakers out of your heads. This whole situation can be cleared up when JO becomes a Laker!!!!!!

  • cyrus

    Ed,

J.Howard wants to be traded because KG left T-Wolves, why would he want to go to Pacers in a -JO to LA- trade scenario??? He would be going to a team in rebuilding mode.

Regarding JO opt-out in my previous post, I was just responding to “D. Imhoff” comments. Yes, I agree with you, why would JO opt out after signing with the Lakers. It would crazy. And if we get JO, Kobe wouldn’t leave. Actually, I think Kobe prefers JO over KG for 2 reasons:

They have been friends half of their lives. Also, Kobe is the “alpha” of the team, I don’t think KG was comfortable with that, but JO is OK with Kobe being the “top dog”

  • http://www.getgarnett.com Fred A.

This is a big I do not know??????
I do not know if Kobe is satisfied with this roster for just this year. But I am not as a fan. Mitch needs to do one more thing and that is get JO without giving up LO.
I am really think that Mitch is beginning to look like and sound like a retard as it gets closer and closer to the season.:(

  • PHANTOM

farewell kobe it was great watching you. you gave us so many memories. i hope the lakers trade you now because its to painful watching you carry a heartless team. go some where and win one for us true kobe fans. wherever you go you will have us laker fans. i will root for the lakers all year long except when they play you. i will always be a kobe fan. good luck and remeber to win one for us. Lakers Fo you let us down!!!!

  • BEC

Somehow Mitch and the FO is just getting stupider by the minute.
Kupchak said. “I feel that we’re an improved team over last year.
WTF?!? What kind of statement is that? The only improvement theyve made is upgrade from an undrafted D league pg who doesnt even deserve to be in the NBA, with Fisher. Heck, putting me at PG wouldve been an improvement. And of course our players are getting better, theyre young and they cant possibly get any worse.
Somehow I think the FO isnt really intent on building a contender, unless something spectacular falls into their lap, i think thats the only way we become contenders just by luck, god forbid Mitch and the FO actually look to get some pieces to take this team over the top, maybe possibly Bird just cracks and trades JO for half his value, KB is satisfied and we win a title, but thats unlikely. Time is ticking because we only got till the trade deadline to build a contender before Kobe snaps after another first round exit.

Mitch likes to suck on Jerrys Dick

KOBE, YOU ARE THE BEST…AND YOU GAVE US WONDERFUL YEARS HERE IN LAKER LAND….IVE WATCHED YOU GROW FROM THE FIRST TIME YOU JOINED THE LAKERS…YOU NEVER LET YOUR FANS DOWN…YOUVE TRIED TO TAKE US TO THE PROMISED LAND THESE PAST 3 YEARS,KNOWING YOU DIDNT HAVE ANY HELP…YOU STILL GAVE MORE THAN 100%….AND FOR THAT I AM GRATEFUL….I WANT YOU TO STAY HERE WITH THE LAKERS,BUT I DO UNDERSTAND YOU PLAY TO WIN….WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS….NOT JUST GAMES HERE AND THERE….SO IF YOU DO LEAVE,I WILL STILL ROOT FOR YOU AND THE TEAM YOU ARE REPRESENTING….I WISH YOU WELL….ALWAYS!!! THE LAKER ORG ARE A JOKE…IM VERY DISENCHANTED WITH THEM!!!!

  • Ben The Lakers Fan

Jerry, if you dont want to waste any of your Precious Time doing something for “Your” team The Lakers cause you’re probably hooked on gambling/binge drinking and Viagra ..

“please” do us all Laker Fans a “Big” favor & SELL the team !!
Im sure “True” Lakers like Mr Magic Man, Coop, Worthy, Jabbar and all those other Laker Fans who can actually afford to buy a team would be thrilled & willing to pay top $$ for this Great Team.

We need an owner with a Heart, someone who actually knows & loves the game of Basketball, not someone who only cares about numbers, poker & has never even played the game. And NO your son is not the answer..

if you dont want to bring The Logo back then let The Magic Man handle it, im sure he would do a much better job than sorry ass Kupcake.

Somebody please make an offer & take this great team of ours away frm Jerrys hands… you will never regret making the move.

  • kb24 4life

    mitch:

    please do any trade
i know you will not trade for JO so trade at least for corey maggette pleaseeee

All of the laker fans are very dissappointed
we want kobe to stay so do something!!!!!!!!!!

  • rmeazy82

Mitch are you serious? This team is not good, Kobe is great but we NEED more pieces. Make something happen already, i’m tired of being a disgrunteld laker fan because our F.O. would rather build around f’n 20 year old that hasn’t shown anything, that build around the greatest player on the planet right now. Kobe isn’t a project he is the truth right now, add a J.O., or a player of that caliber and keep L.O. and we are right there. Its unbelievable that we refuse to make any significant moves on our team.
