Mihm, Mbenga get into it at practice

mihmmbengaIn what is likely a non-issue at this point, Chris Mihm and DJ Mbenga got into a little scuffle at todays practice in El Segundo. The two backup centers had to seperated by teammates after DJ seemed very unhappy with Mihm’s defense on a practice play.

Afterward, the two players seemed to have worked the issue out, as DJ tried to explain why he lost his temper in front of Chris Mihm and assistant coach, Kurt Rambis. Fair to say, all seems well.

The two centers have been battling for limited playing time off the bench — a battle in which Chris Mihm has seemed to have won (if you can call it that) as of late.

I also feel obligated to note that Mbenga is a 7 footer with a black belt in Judo. He is probably the last guy in the league that you would want to fight — Chris, you dodged a bullet here, my friend.

Video of the incedent can be seen on CBS.

lmao they should have let them go at it. THE WINNER GETS MORE PLAYING TIME AND TACOS!

I don’t think Mbenga would use his Judo to hurt Mihm really bad. He would use it to defend himself and that is all. First Mbenga is a good guy and not violent and second the FO would not look kindly on that if he used his Judo to seriously hurt anyone on the team.

Not something you really wanna see, especially since we would need one of the two to get about 5-10 minutes if Bynum is really out for the whole 12 weeks. Pretty funny though LMFAO.

Must be frustrating for Mbenga with having no minutes in the rotation.

The lack of minutes between these 2 players are ridiculous. I would expect Phil to give them both a few more minutes, but he has cut his rotation so short. Mihm only gets about 3-5 minutes a game while Mbenga doesn’t even get off the bench. I guess the lack of minutes have gotten them a bit upset and I think both were playing hard and physical during scrimmage to get attention from the staff to the point where both just got into a heated confrontation. I don’t think it’s going to be a big issue at all, just an in house type of thing where Phil will talk to both and cool them down. I really would like to see both Mihm and Mbenga get off the bench more and rest Gasol for extended minutes. Powell has been solid coming off the bench behind Gasol, which is why he’s getting the bulk of the reserve minutes in the front court.

As far as who would’ve won the “fight”, Mbenga would have beaten the crap out of Mihm.
