Kobe and Fisher on Media DayLA Times: They filed out one by one from the trainers’ room at the Lakers’ El Segundo facility today, 17 of the 18 Lakers currently in uniform, for the start of media day. Then came Coach Phil Jackson and his assistants.

But all the gathered media didn’t flinch. They were waiting for the 18th member of the squad.

And finally, 34 minutes after the start of media day, Kobe Bryant, whose trade-me-don’t-trade-me tirades during the off-season kept him in the headlines, came out in uniform, apparently ready to begin another season with the Lakers.

Escorted by an armada of cameras and microphones, Bryant greeted Lakers broadcasters Joel Meyers and Stu Lantz and proceeded to stand before a camera and read team public-service announcements and television promos.

“I’m ready to go. I’m happy to see Fish and Chris back,” Bryant said of recent acquisition Derek Fisher and center Chris Mihm, who has returned from an injury. “I’m all smiles.”

“All he did was make me work harder.”

Good, that’s what I want to hear Mr. Socks. Now go get em this season!

Stein is out of his mind with these rankings. Celtic better than the Suns? Pistons, Rockets better than the Mavs? And this kills me…Cavs, who did nothing this season, are better than the Bulls???

The Bucks, Bobcats, Magic are NOT better than us! Jazz..questionable. Raptors..questionable.

I agree some of those rankings are a little odd. Obviously Spurs are 1, suns probably 2. Then I don’t know it becomes a little more difficult after that. Houston could be up there but there are a lot of chemistry issues that need to be worked out (but trust me on this Scola is the real deal, SA will wish they had figured out a way to bring him into the NBA). Detroit is still detroit and Chicago are the two best teams in the east. Boston is there on paper, but htey have to prove they can do it on the court too.

GS got too high of a ranking, I think the talent was maximized last season. If they are healthy maybe they are that good (maybe) but what are the chances of Davis being healthy for a full season.

I do not think Denver is that much better than the Lakers, slightly but not by much. Their success, like the Lakers, depends on how they play defense.

Im excited as I always am when the season begins. Im also very happy to see Bynum is grown up enough to understand Kobes frustration.
My prayers are that Lamar gets healthy and stays healthy the whole year and that Kwame breaks out and has a monster season without injury, that Luke finally is ready to help lead this team and that he too stays healthy all year. That Cook has finally learned to play some defense and that Sasha will finally break out and hit some big shots at game time. That Fishs Daughter is fully healed and that he has a great season without any worry or distraction for this team.
That Bynum proofs me and every other detractor wrong with some monster games this year. That Mimh has a great and healthy season and plays without any hesitation. That Rad Man has a break out year in the Triangle offense and shoots the ball like we all know he can. That Farmar has a great sophmore year. That Kobe plays like he always plays and stays injury free.
As far as all the Rooks go, I just pray they learn the Triangle quickly and that each one can help this team win in someway. I really hope we can surprise everybody and have a great season.
    I love my Lakers. Amen

What if the whole offseason media crap was an ellaborate mental plan that kobe and phil had to make Bynum work really hard and get just nasty?
