The SteinMario (Ohio): If Stan Van Gundy goes to Indy, does it pave the way for a Lamar Odom for Jermaine O’Neal trade? Odom played his best ball in SVG’s system in Miami.

Marc Stein: It’s a good shout. I wouldn’t say “pave the way” because I’ve believed that’s a trade L.A. even before the Lakers were eliminated. But Stan to the Pacers would certainly put a strong Odom advocate in the Indy organization. Odom’s success in the post playing for SVG (Stan Van Gundy) was indeed his best NBA run.

Marc Stein: I just have a feeling that Jermaine and Kobe end up together. Both players want it and history says that the Lakers always get saved by a mega trade like this.

    YAY!

  • Alex

its more realistic this way..with the grant hill rumors floating and the ron artest rumors floating….trade Odom for JO and a piece… sign Hill..and maybe trade Kwame for artest…and resign Walton..

    PG – Jordan Farmar
    SG- Kobe Bryant
    SF- Ron Artest
    PF- JO
    C- Andrew Bynum

    Bench- Walton..Hill..Turiaf..Evans..Cook

I really dont think that looks bad

  • Alex

or they could even trade Bynum for JO..and not have to give up Odom

    PG – Jordan Farmar
    SG- Kobe Bryant
    SF- Ron Artest
    PF- LO
    C- JO

damn now that looks sick….. :) loving this lineup

Man come on. Get real. The Lakers had Payton, Karl Malone, Shaq and Kobe and got destroyed no thanks to Kobe jacking up 30 footers. JO, Grant Hill, Garnett, and Kobe are not even in the same league as that squad. You really think all these other players are going to cow tow to Kobe’s foolishness and make it to a championship. Let’s be real. Kobe can go for 81 and shoot air balls with a bunch of nobodies on the team, but those guys won’t stay past one season after they are forced to put up with Kobe.

    Later Gator-
That take is absolutely ridiculous. JO would love to play with the best player on the planet and would love to play for an organization like the Lakers. I don’t think it will happen because Indy fired their coach and usually teams that do so stick with their players in that case. Plus Donnie and Larry like to play hardball and will not relinquish him unless they get a lot back. I don’t personally think he’s worth it. I’d take Pau Gasol at much lower salary and less history of injury. He’s disgruntled and wants out, that’s a nice in for the Lakers. We could start out with much lower offers than JO who is a bigger superstar. Gasol’s got a real post game.

Artest would also love to play with Kobe. He’s a huge risk as everyone says but the D. would improve enough that it’s not a bad gamble. Doesn’t really matter who you give up for him, either Kwame or Luke, makes us a stronger team.

I think Grant Hill would be a nice addition but I wouldn’t take him over a decent point guard at the mid-level exception. Did he play a full year last year? I just think he’s going to retire instead.
