I love this. It shows Walton’s selflessness and helps aid our team. No doubt this made a difference!

Lakers Basketblog: Prior to L.A.’s win against Houston, Luke Walton approached head coach Phil Jackson with an idea: why not see if L.A.’s flow worked better with Trevor Ariza starting and Walton coming off the bench?

Jackson said the team would stick with that lineup for the foreseeable future.

    thats why i like walton

  • Lakersfan9

Respect level for Walton just increased tenfold. Even though he may not be the most skilled basketball player in the league, he’s a team guy through and through. As a fan, I’m glad to have him on my team.

I also think Josh Powell should start over Odom. Powell played great tonight, hustling and showing emotion..and that’s what we need. I’m not knockin’ Lamar…but maybe he can help the bench, who’ve been declining lately.

luke is a beast f uck the haters he does what needs to be done to win

  • Eidraq

glad he does these things…he’s selfless, ill give him that for sure

  • lilkobe24

luke isn’t a beast.. POWELL IS

    KOPAUPOWE

Very impressive game from Josh. Agressive around the basket, and has a soft shooting touch.

i think thats a good idea for now. but i would definitely distribute the talent around when drew comes back. but it does give us a lot more possibly line-ups with guys like powell abd mbenga stepping up. i think those guys can be our like kurt thomas/pj brown type guys in the playoffs.

  • Bynums Knee

wait does rhat mean our lineup when everyones healthy will be

    Fish
    Kobe
    Ariza
    Gasol
    Bynum??

    like permanently off the bench?

…As the old saying goes: “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”,
Case in Point: The Bench Mob keeps getting weaker & weaker, ever since Jackson decided to take their best 3 point threat out of the starting lineup and then stupidly exchanging this viable weapon for basically garbage that will NEVER blossom into anybody’s treasure!
…But not surprisingly, RadMan has blossomed out to be the new found treasure for Larry Brown and The Charlotte Bobcats! …Picking up right where he left off, performing as he always has, before ever coming to The Lakers to be mishandled by “Old_Fart_Jackson”!
…I just hope, as a Lakers fan first and foremost, Old Man Jackson’s taking out the trash-(Handling of RadMan), does not come back to bite his old and outdated a$$ and cost The Lakers, “The Ship” this year!

    Here’s an idea…

Let’s see how much better the Lakers play if we leave Luke on the bench until late in the 4th quarter when we are up by around 20 or so.

  • mr.laker19

I dont believe that. I said yesterday that walton should come off the bench and Ariza should start and somebody said i was crazy. Bottom line is our defense is way better with Ariza, he played artest very well. Now if we just cut down on sashas minutes I will be happy. I want to see more of Morrison and Brown personally.

it to bad luke didnt request a trade then the lakers would still have vlad rad

  • jason

i think this is a smart move because the bench has been struggling lately to score and having luke play with the second unit is like having another point guard with them…hes a very good passer and is able to get guys the ball when their in a good position to score..he can also work out of the post as well so i like it.

  • lakerpurpleandgold

Luke will contribute off the bench, he’s much more valuable and not as much as a liability when hes surrounded by the second unit as he is with the starters. He wants to step up and be a leader and if he comes off the bench, he will get that chance.

  • Ubershorty

The lineup I would love to see (not the as the starting lineup though…) would be: Fisher, Kobe, Ariza, Powell, Bynum.
That would be a tough lineup, not to mention the defense would be good.

I agree…that is a nice lineup to see.

  • Juilliard Dancer

I agree with this lineup too. I wanted Bynum coming off the bench because our second unit would be basicially like the Orlando magic starting unit. it’s better having a six man scorer then a sex man who’s best at getting peeps involved. Although with your lineup..Having LO and Gasol coming off the bench would be pretty sick if this unit you have up there does well together. I think they would do better this way bc the guys who lakers have are Star players and there’s tooooo much talent out there on this unit to have them all out there at once. Even though the stats showed that Gasol, bryant and bynum did Great together..the team would be unbeatable if they spread out the talent more on this team. Kobe and Bynum did amaing together last year and LO and Gasol have shown to have great chemistry. That’s a pretty scary thought..having to play the Lakers with two of the best Two man punches in the league.

luke asked to come of the bench…. come on when luke is in the court its like 4 against 6 because luke is more help to the other team.Luke never gets respect from opposing team and is left alone because he can’t shoot, not even from under the basket.keep him better yet buy him out, trade him lets get somebody betterand lets get shannon brown some more time because he is can be a threat.
