It looks like Luke is very close to returning to the team!

L.A.Times: Walton has traveled with the team to get treatment on his back. His plan was to work out Wednesday and try to practice Thursday “I’m getting closer to being back,” Walton said. “I’m going to do some half-court stuff, which to me means I won’t be able to sleep [Tuesday] night. That’s how excited I am just to practice.”

  • poop

finally, we need him, hopefully he can fix the bench a little bit

    • comeflywithme

yeah, the bench needs to move the ball around, and luke could do that..

      • WifelovesLuke

Finally! The second unit could use more movement!
        .
        .
Nice to see that there are a few educated basketball people here in TLN and not just the haters listed below. The haters are just too busy looking at box scores to understand what Luke brings to the second unit.

  • lakers0828

Who give Sh** The guys Has Been injured Prone Much Like his Father the Whole Laker bench except for Lo and Brown are a Bunch of Scrubs

    • http://www.facebook.com/thejahjah Green Flannel

Scrubs don’t play in the NBA, especially on the Lakers. What fan are you? Oh i get it, you just like best, no the whole team. Do i hear the bandwagon coming? You better jump on.

      • WifelovesLuke

        Well said Flannel!

  • Luke makes me Puke

I hope he does the team a favor and RETIRES.

    • http://www.facebook.com/thejahjah Green Flannel

i hope you do the website a favor and LEAVE.

      • WifelovesLuke

Co sign Flannel. Enough with the hate. He’s a Laker for crying out loud. How about trusting the front office and Phil for knowing what they are doing. How about understanding the importance of “role” players.

    • Luke makes me Puke

How many more years will we be saddled with this rag? Talk about throwing money down the drain!

  • blahblah

This dude is the epitome of a nobody. He even tried playing assistant coach’s assistant just so he can have an excuse that he was making use of his time off.

    • doodles

Good idea. He should retire and become an assistant coach or scorekeeper. As long as we get his salary off the books.

      • Luke makes me Puke

        Absolutely.

Glad to see there are some clear thinkers on this site instead of the numbskulls listed above who are always kissing Luke’s butt and giving him BJ’s.

  • tradesasha

puke is coming back soon?!!? why am i not excited to hear that!

  • Robert

Luke knows the Triangle better than most on the Lakers. That will be essential in the playoffs. Also, the Lakers have a small roster (13 players). Without Luke, 12. Many teams (Cavs?) have 15 players. The Lakers are running off a small core of players, I guess by design (Buss doesn’t want to put out more $$$ – already well over luxury tax). So we need Luke, and he CAN help the 2nd unit (if they can MAKE THEIR FRIGGIN’ SHOTS).

    • well

This knowledge of the Triangle has been beaten off on several times already. All I see Luke do is inbound, make bad passes, and pass up open shots to Kobe.

HE IS NOT GOING TO MAKE AN IMPACT

      • WifelovesLuke

Try opening you eyes a little wider. His value to the triangle and the second unit has plenty of value. Let me guess, you’re also on the trade sasha, morrison, farmar, etc. bandwagon. Get a clue and support the “team” or GTFO of here!

        • well

You know what, fuck you and your wife: you support an all out lazy injury prone player. I hate the guy because like other certain people on this squad, they only extend the most effort during contract year. After that it’s down down down downhill. I don’t give a fuck about scores and what not but when you don’t contribute a lick at all and you’re basically put in for 3 min tops, the hell are they getting paid for? What I said about Luke is true. Nothing but inbound+pass+pass up shots+ineffective D that’s it.
So fuck Luke and fuck Joey’s BBQ. I’m on no bandwagon.
          Fuck

      • Luke makes me Puke

        Don’t bother listening to WifeBlowsLuke.
Luke looks great holding a clip board.
He probably goes a great job of carrying the other players luggage as well.

        • well

It’s cool. Could care less about a pussy whipped douche anyhow.

  • lker10

he came back earlier for the same thing and ended up having to sit again. I think luke will need surgery; he may a get a few games in but if it didnt help the first time….

  • WifelovesLuke

Just remember, guys. You have your superstars, then your core players and then your role players. Each has a different way of contributing to the “TEAM”. Not everyone is going to fill the box score or get commercials with a puppet. Stop hating and understand that throughout the history of the NBA, each championship team has utility players that have certain responsibilities. Once you can have an open mind and trust the decisions of the organization, you get a clearer picture of Luke’s value. Does he have a great jumpshot? Hell No! But that’s NOT his role!

    • Luke makes me Puke

If you want to talk about role players let’s talk about people like Robert Horry, Rick Fox, Brian Shaw, Michael Cooper, Bob McAdoo, Horace Grant, Ron Harper – but don’t mention Luke’s name, you are making a fool of yourself.

  • SteelKobe24

like walton is a good passer, THATS it

  • doodles

“Not a game, not a game, not a game. We talkin’ ’bout practice. Not a game…”

Luke gets excited over practice? Well I hope he practices all he wants. Just don’t put him in the game. His supposed high basketball IQ doesn’t shine on the court.

  • WifeHatesLuke

If Luke is so valuable to this team then why has Mitch tried to unsuccesfully trade him the past 2 seasons!? Luke is an overpaid NBA scrub that is only in this league thanks to bad guaranteed contract given to him by Kupchak, he’s slow, can’t defend, can’t shoot, makes stupid passes…”Luke backs down 6’1 guard, turns & gets stripped of the ball” AGAIN! Hopefully Phil keeps playing Sasha & not give Puke the minutes Sasha has earned!Go Lakers!

  • Luke makes me Puke

Oh yeah, how could we forget Luke’s fabulous post moves! Even better is how he fires three pointers off the top or the side of the backboard. Such brilliance is so hard to come by in the NBA.

  • Robert

Again, having a role player on the team has value. It is NOT valueless. There are intangibles that result from having a different rotations on the court. You can’t just throw out statistics.
    .
Anyway, fact is – Luke does not play well when injured – even injured ‘just a little bit’. And conversely, Luke plays well when fully healthy, which he did years ago before he negotiated his contract (he was putting up the highest percentage of 3s for about 2 months in 2006).
    .
Now that Bynum is inured, we have – what – 11 healthy players? (or, players that are ‘good to play’, but not necessarily fully healthy – Kobe still has injuries). This small number of players puts pressure on them to play more minutes. When are you all gonna understand that ‘every minute’ counts? If Kobe or some other member of the 1st team has to stay on the court 5 extra minutes, that adds to the ‘wear and tear’ for the playoffs. This is not good. Even if Luke isn’t contributing much, he at least can help keep the team together while the 1st team players are resting. This is why it was GOOD that Sasha came back (sorry, all you Sasha haters out there). If Morrison weren’t such a liability on court, Phil would play him more. Same with Powell. Luke isn’t a liability when he is on the court. As long as he can keep the team running without losing the point advantage, he’s ok.
    .
No, he’s not Horry, Fox, etc. … oh well. I have said that Buss/Kup should sign a 10 day, or two. They won’t do that – they’re sticking with the team they have paid for, and seeing if they can step up. So, we’re stuck with what we have. Phil has to make the best of it. That’s it! We can’t do anything else about it.
